Executive Summary
This report provides analysis and evaluation of a newly designed wastewater treatment facility for
Sand Valley, Nevada. Analysis will include Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) along with total,
volatile, and fixed suspended solids. Methods for analysis will include the Winkler Test for BOD and a
Hatch test for the suspend solids.
The report finds BOD levels meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
permit renewal standards. Results for suspended solids shows an opposite trend. Suspended solids
increase throughout the course of the water treatment. This does not meet NPDES standards. Further
suspended solids test will be needed to insure a minimal amount of error. If the same trend continues,
the facility may need to be redesigned to meet NPDES standards.

The instructor played a song by Eminem, and a trailer from his movie. Afterwards, she explained the
lyrics of the song, and held a discussion about how the artist did not let his geography define his
destiny. I thought this was such a great idea. The students were then given an Ipad and asked to look
up a song that meant the most to them, and they would be able to play the song and share it with the
class. This directly exemplified motivation/incentive to me. It was motivation, in the sense that they
wanted to use the Ipad and look up music to show the class their favorite song. Intrinsic motivation to
be exact. The Journal of Education For Business defines intrinsic motivation as an activity whose
initial impulse originates from self motivation , (Rassuli, 2012, 86.) This was obviously portrayed,
because the students liked the activity they were participating in, so they voluntarily did it without any
prize or reward at the end. I also saw examples of extrinsic motivation during my time there. A short
quiz was done at the beginning of class based on the lesson from the previous day. Each student was
given a card that said true or false, and was asked to hold up his or her answer when the question was
asked. The game started off slow, it was the end of the day and the students were just not cooperating.
The teacher then said, You will get a prize if you win, it s behind this box. Just like that, the students
started throwing their signs up and trying to beat each other for the right answers. I learned that

My Visit to Centennial Village Historical Site in Greeley
I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed visiting the Centennial Village historical site in
Greeley. I happened to visit this museum on the perfect day because there were children from different
schools dressed up and living how the people in Northern Colorado lived more than 100 years ago.
With the children all dressed up like people used to dress, and doing the chores that they used to take
on really made it the feel like I was back in time. I got to experience dozens of historical sites, live
animals, schools, and businesses that really helped me understand part of Northern Colorado s history.
One of my favorite parts about this museum was how we got to see all the different immigrants homes
that made this region so culturally diverse. If I were living in Colorado around these times I most
likely would be living in a Stone House because teachers typically lived in these types of houses.
These houses where located on Eagle s Nest Ranch right out of Greeley and were made up of stones.
These houses where primarily made up for ranchers and teachers. Another type of house is called the
Swedish American House, (STUGA) these homes tend to be a little nicer than the Stone houses and

Sex For an extensive period of time, it was considered sinful and immoral, but in the beginning of this
century, it found its way into the social norm. Many people today believe it is acceptable, but there are
still numerous people, including myself, who find the practice of premarital sex to be wrong at first
glance regardless of what the situation may be. The thought of whether or not the practice is
acceptable varies from person to person based on their upbringing and knowledge on the topic. Due to
the countless morbid and life changing consequences, including a multitude of diseases and unwanted
pregnancies, people, such as myself, rationalize on the opinion that premarital sex is immoral and
should not be practiced. In his argument titled The Moral Instinct, Pinker identifies two different
methods that people use to conclude on whether an action, idea, or practice is moral or immoral; he
refers to them as moral reasoning and moral rationalization (462). Moral reasoning can be defined as
analyzing a situation first to make a judgment/conclusion on that situation (Pinker 462). On the other
hand, moral rationalization is the opposite and is defined as beginning with the conclusion, coughed

One may agree with the government regulating our food. Personally speaking, it is a good idea. It is a
surprise how unhealthy people are when they eat out, they do not count calories and eat whatever they
want. Some challenging the government would say calorie labeling has no effect on what we eat. Too
many Americans are obese today and it is time to make a change and clean up our eating habits.
Although many Americans are active and keep track of eating healthy, too many are obese and junk
food oriented. Counting calories is hard, but it can lead to people eating much better. At least two
thirds of Americans are now considered obese (Park). In New York City forty percent of the city s
obese population is elementary and middle school students (Park). Now obesity does have many
causes, but it comes from unhealthy junk that you put inside your body when you eat fast food. If an
obese adult could see the amount of calories they eat in one day, God hopes they would eat better. In

into private decision making. Now that does make sense, if the government did stay out of our private

made an argument that whether he wanted to go buy and apple or a Big Mac, he has a right to buy

Most everyone who has toured coastal California is familiar with the Santa Inez Mountains that form
the striking backdrop for the city of Santa Barbara. But not everyone has been in (or on) those
mountains, and that s where the true magnificence lies. Have you? One such journey begins on
Gibraltar Road near the upper edge of the city, just above the Santa Barbara Mission. The trip is
breathtaking as it winds its way through several different climate and flora zones on its way to La
Cumbre Peak, a pine shrouded crest 4000 feet above the palm laced ocean.
I leave my car at the 700 foot level, and begin the slow, lung expanding crank to the peak. Soon my

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Meredith, she lived with her parents whom she liked to
call mama and papa. They all lived not so happily in Holland, right next to the picture perfect red tulip
fields. Meredith would always try to explore the fields of red tulips. There is a forest that is about forty
feet away from the last tulip in that field. Her parents always told her don t go near the forest because
there were scary, mean dwarfs. So she was always very annoyed when her parents told her about all of

The poet Siegfried Sassoon saw that war was destructive and it should not happen because it was a
waste of human life, Sassoon described the horror of war unsparingly, also, his poems were often
based on actual incidents. Wilfred Owen focused his poetry on the particulars of war and the men
involved: dirt, muddle, boredom etc, Owen often wrote about the horror of war and the dignity of
