Editor's Notes

  • #4  550 thousand ebooks Over 10 million collection budget
  • #6 Last November, I attended the logo© workshop, led by a visiting librarian, Megan Lotts of Rutgers University's Art Library. The workshop was using LEGOs blocks to facilitate teamwork, active learning, creative thinking, and problem solving within academic libraries. The workshop is based on the The LEGO Serious Play methodology, which is a process designed to enahnce innovation. It’s a different process from what you do with a logo box you bought from Target, which has step-by-step instructions. At the workshop, we were given a list of tasks to design and build things either independently or as a team.
  • #15 We store and map out licenses in local ERM. But we can’t link the license with ebook packages because they are not loaded into the ERM. So we need to somehow link the licenses with ebook packages.
  • #16 This is how organization and contacts are related in e-matrix, as well as with resources and licensing. Again, we mainly use our ERM for e-journals and databases, but not ebook packages. That’s another relationship we need to manage.
  • #18 There are more people involved with the workflow. When you are part of multi-member a workflow, the issue is to keep the process transparent to all involved. We need a tool or way to do that.
  • #22 How does coral help us with monograph order workflow. This is coral resource module. When Specialist receives order request, they created a record for each title that need to be ordered and assign it to a staff member. We have almost 3000 records since we first started to use it two and a half years ago.
  • #24 To keep track of all the ebook packages that we purchased, we created monographic e-resource hub on our internal Wiki as part of the department-wide e-resource hub. eBook packages are organized by publishers.
  • #26 The ebook package profile provides the one-stop shop with pointers to all systems related to this package. We use it to track what we have purchased, look up information we needed for ebook access troubleshooting, and history. CM rely on it when they review potential purchases.
  • #27 The database compares vendor title lists against ILS list to identify missing titles and generate reports with mismatches. The database helps to ensure that all of our purchased ebook package content is available in the ILS and throughout the Libraries discovery layers and to create definitive title lists that associate ebook titles with package purchases.
  • #28 This is a list of reconciled mismatch titles for a ebook package. Staff work through the list, identify issues for each mismatch title and resolve the issue. It makes the workload much more manageable because the reconciliation generate only a small percentage of mismatches ranging from 2 to 10%.
  • #30 at BrickCon 2012, Seattle-area builder Alice Finch unveiled what just might be the largest LEGO structure built by a single person, a near-complete minifig-scale rendition of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series of books and the corresponding movies.
