It’s okay to feel this way, but by the end of
today I promise you’ll have an answer
How do you set goals the right way?
1) First you must answer the question WHY?
• Combine your ambitions to your passion and to your purpose
2) What do you love doing?
• Do your dreams incorporate that?
Let’s back track..my life 5 years ago
• I was a junior in high school
• Knew I wanted to attend college and eventually go to med school= too
much money
• My main focus was to get good grades
What have I done since?
• Shadowed many doctors through job shadow day (MVYLI)
• Got into college
• Currently an upcoming senior at Gordon College
• Participated in associations such as: Alzheimer’s buddies, Beyond Benign
• Research
• Been waitressing every summer
• Recently got an internship at the hospital (MVYLI)
What is my dream for my life?
Professionally
• Work in the medical field- Nurse practitioner
• Be able to give back in countries that aren’t as fortunate as us through medicine
Personally
• Stay healthy and be happy
• Love my job
• One day get married and have my family
• Be able to give back to my parents
Dream for my community and world
Community
• To be completely green
• Lower drug use/ overdose rate
• Eliminate racism
World
• To be completely green
• End violence/war
• Water and food for everyone
• End poverty
• Equal rights for everyone – no racism
• Equal access to healthcare
How do my dreams complement each other?
• Through medicine I can help others and better our world
• I can incorporate greener practices
• I want to one day travel and do volunteer work in places in the world that
don’t have the healthcare system we do
My action steps to realize these dreams:
6 months
• Take GRE (graduate record examinations)
• Apply to graduate schools
• Continue getting good grades
• Internships
1 year
• Be accepted into graduate school
5 years
• Hopefully have graduated and have a job in the hospital
This summer
• Internship at the hospital
• Waitressing

Advice
• It’s important to shadow fields you are interested in
• Set realistic goals- one step at a time
• Start NOW- don’t keep pushing it back
To end keep this in mind…
“It’s not how much you have its what you do with what you have and we all
have different gifts- use it and share it. Dreams without goals are just dreams.
Goals on the road to achievement cannot be achieved without discipline and
consistency."

What's Next?

  • 2. It’s okay to feel this way, but by the end of today I promise you’ll have an answer
  • 3. How do you set goals the right way? 1) First you must answer the question WHY? • Combine your ambitions to your passion and to your purpose 2) What do you love doing? • Do your dreams incorporate that?
  • 4. Let’s back track..my life 5 years ago • I was a junior in high school • Knew I wanted to attend college and eventually go to med school= too much money • My main focus was to get good grades
  • 5. What have I done since? • Shadowed many doctors through job shadow day (MVYLI) • Got into college • Currently an upcoming senior at Gordon College • Participated in associations such as: Alzheimer’s buddies, Beyond Benign • Research • Been waitressing every summer • Recently got an internship at the hospital (MVYLI)
  • 6. What is my dream for my life? Professionally • Work in the medical field- Nurse practitioner • Be able to give back in countries that aren’t as fortunate as us through medicine Personally • Stay healthy and be happy • Love my job • One day get married and have my family • Be able to give back to my parents
  • 7. Dream for my community and world Community • To be completely green • Lower drug use/ overdose rate • Eliminate racism World • To be completely green • End violence/war • Water and food for everyone • End poverty • Equal rights for everyone – no racism • Equal access to healthcare
  • 8. How do my dreams complement each other? • Through medicine I can help others and better our world • I can incorporate greener practices • I want to one day travel and do volunteer work in places in the world that don’t have the healthcare system we do
  • 9. My action steps to realize these dreams: 6 months • Take GRE (graduate record examinations) • Apply to graduate schools • Continue getting good grades • Internships 1 year • Be accepted into graduate school 5 years • Hopefully have graduated and have a job in the hospital This summer • Internship at the hospital • Waitressing

  • 11. Advice • It’s important to shadow fields you are interested in • Set realistic goals- one step at a time • Start NOW- don’t keep pushing it back
  • 12. To end keep this in mind… “It’s not how much you have its what you do with what you have and we all have different gifts- use it and share it. Dreams without goals are just dreams. Goals on the road to achievement cannot be achieved without discipline and consistency."
