Victor Valley College Distance Education Academy - November 2014Justin Gatewood
Presentation given at Victor Valley College in November 2015 by Jory Hadsell from the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office - regarding Distance Education Initiatives from the state level.
A quick look at who our students are, our student mentor progam, online tutoring, online developmental courses, and satisfaction rates of online students.
ERS presented its findings from our School System 20/20 diagnostic of DPS on March 15, 2017 to the district's leadership team, board of education, and members of the Denver education community.
We hope to use these results to improve what we do and to ultimately provide a better experience for our international students. We recognize that increased diversity on campus is important and we value the contribution of our international students. They bring different perspectives and ideas, which improves the learning experience of everyone.
Reporting on public education too often subscribes to the “if it bleeds, it leads” school of journalism. Yet good things are happening in our schools every day. Here, CPE shares our Top 10 list of good things happening in public education, though it’s far from an exhaustive list.
The Value of Fit: Helping First-Generation Students Find Their Path After Hig...Naviance
A live presentation from two district leaders who have achieved dramatic results in helping first-generation college-going students transition to college. With college readiness a strategic priority, Chicago Public Schools increased 2- and 4-year college enrollment from 50% to 63% of graduates district-wide and more than tripled scholarship dollars received. You will learn about their strategies that helped first-generation students, best practices for defining future-ready milestones, and implementing measurable postsecondary goals.
Increasing College Access with FAFSA CompletionNaviance
The strong relationship between FAFSA completion and college attendance has many schools putting a great emphasis on ensuring that students, especially those from underrepresented populations or first-generation households, are armed with all of the tools necessary to complete the FAFSA with their families. Join us as we highlight best practices from schools and districts who are showing measurable increases in FAFSA submissions and who are taking innovative approaches to working with students and families to decrease barriers to get students to college.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

23. What is PESC XML?
A standard for electronic transcripts that
allows student data to be transmitted from one
institution to another
24. Why PESC XML?
● Student data portability from institution to institution
● Faster processing and transfer than PDF, for both
high schools and colleges
● Smaller file sizes, less storage needed
● Better accuracy for automatically matching transcripts
with student records
● Safer, cheaper, and quicker to send than mailing
paper transcripts
● Student data availability for reports
● Promotes standardized student data set across
institutions
25. Who needs this?
● Schools in states that mandate transcripts in data
format
■ Indiana Common Transcript (2015)
● Any school that has a Student Information
System (SIS) that can produce PESC XML
transcripts
26. Where does the PESC XML file come from?
● From the Student Information System (SIS)
○ Check with your IT or District
● Naviance eDocs will NOT convert PDF files into PESC
XML files
● The transcript files must adhere to the PESC XML
standard Version 1.3
● State-mandated public schools must meet the state’s
data element requirements
27. PDF vs PESC XML: Single Upload
PDF Transcript PESC XML Transcript
Any PDF file is
accepted
● Must be a valid PESC XML file
● Must contain exactly ONE
student transcript per file
● Indiana public schools must
meet data requirements
28. PDF vs PESC XML: Multiple Upload (MTM)
PDF Transcript PESC XML Transcript
● Any PDF file is
accepted
● Matching will be
attempted
● Can reorder,
mix & match
pages
● Must be a valid PESC XML file
● May contain 1 or many student
transcripts per file
● Must use the BATCH PESC XML
FORMAT even if the file contains only
one transcript
● Must meet state data requirements if
your state has a mandate
● Each transcript is exact; cannot
reorder, mix & match pages
● Better accuracy in matching
29. PDF vs PESC XML: Sending Transcripts
PDF Transcript PESC XML Transcript
Send file as-is Before September 2015:
● PDF version will be sent
After September 2015:
● To Common App: send PDF
version
● To Parchment: send XML
30. How will colleges receive the PESC XML transcripts?
If sending to... What will be sent...
Common App Send the PDF version generated from
the XML
Parchment colleges Send XML to Parchment
• Colleges can choose in their
Parchment account setting which
format they want to receive: XML
or PDF.
• Parchment will create a PDF from
