What the Nose Knows
The aroma of coffee can trigger feelings of alertness.
Some research has suggested that aroma can trigger
emotions and evoke memories.
There is an entire industry dedicated to “aroma
therapy”.
Text: 2Cor 2:14-16

Now thanks be unto God,
which always causeth us to triumph in Christ,
and maketh manifest
the savour of his knowledge
by us in every place.
The Savour of the Almighty

For we are unto God

a sweet savour of Christ,
in them that are saved,
and in them that perish:
The Savour of Attribute
16
To the one
we are the savour of death unto death;
and to the other
the savour of life unto life.
The Savour of Repute
And who is sufficient for these things?
The Sufficiency of the Almighty
I. The Savour of the Almighty- 2Cor 2:14
…the savour of his knowledgeby us…

The mind of God is, beyond human understanding
Isa 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard,
that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the
ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there
is no searching of his understanding.
Isa 44:6-7 6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel,
and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first,
and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. 7
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it
in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people?
and the things that are coming, and shall come, let
them shew unto them.
Isa 55:8-9 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For
as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my
ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than
your thoughts.
Rom 11:33-34 33 O the depth of the riches both of
the wisdom and knowledge of God! how
unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past
finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of
the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

1Cor 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the
Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the
mind of Christ.
The mind of God is holy, righteous and good
Deut 4:8 And what nation is there so great, that hath
statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law,
which I set before you this day?
Num 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie;
neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath
he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and
shall he not make it good?
Ps 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of
the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust
in him.
Ps 119:68 Thou art good, and doest good; teach me
thy statutes.
Ps 119:137-138 137 TZADDI. Righteous art thou, O
LORD, and upright are thy judgments. 138 Thy
testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous
and very faithful.

Ps 119:142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting
righteousness, and thy law is the truth.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word
is truth.
Rom 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the
commandment holy, and just, and good.
The mind of God is expressed in his mercy
Eph 2:4-5 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his
great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we
were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with
Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Neh 9:31 Nevertheless for thy great mercies' sake
thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake
them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.
Mic 7:18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth
iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the
remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger
for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

Rom 11:32 For God hath concluded them all in
unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
1Pet 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but
are now the people of God: which had not obtained
mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
God changes his mind in response to repentance
This is no whimsical change of mind, but the
considered decision on God’s part not to proceed with
a threatened course of action in response to
repentance on the part of individuals or the people.
Jer 18:5-10 5 Then the word of the LORD came to
me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you
as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in
the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of
Israel. 7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a
nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and
to pull down, and to destroy it; 8 If that nation,
against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil,
I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto
them. 9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a
nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to
plant it; 10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my

voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I
would benefit them.
Jer 26:3 If so be they will hearken, and turn every
man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the
evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the
evil of their doings.
Joel 2:13-14 13 And rend your heart, and not your
garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is
gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great
kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. 14 Who
knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a
blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink
offering unto the LORD your God?
Amos 7:3 The LORD repented for this: It shall not be,
saith the LORD.
Amos 7:6 The LORD repented for this: This also shall
not be, saith the Lord GOD.
Grieving as a result to sinful actions
1Sam 15:11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to
be king: for he is turned back from following me, and

hath not performed my commandments. And it
grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.
Gen 6:6-7 6 And it repented the LORD that he had
made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his
heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I
have created from the face of the earth; both man,
and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of
the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
1Sam 15:35 And Samuel came no more to see Saul
until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel
mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he
had made Saul king over Israel.
II. The Savour of Attribute- 2Cor 2:15
…a sweet savour of Christ,in them that are saved…

Ezek 20:41
41I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I
bring you out from the people, and gather you out of
the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I
will be sanctified in you before the heathen.
Exod 30:25 And thou shalt make it an oil of holy
ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the
apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.
Exod 30:33 Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or
whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be
cut off from his people.

Exod 30:35-38 35 And thou shalt make it a perfume, a
confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered
together, pure and holy: 36 And thou shalt beat some of it
very small, and put of it before the testimony in the
tabernacle of the congregation, where I will meet with
thee: it shall be unto you most holy. 37 And as for the
perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to
yourselves according to the composition thereof: it
shall be unto thee holy for the LORD. 38 Whosoever shall
make like unto that, to smell thereto, shall even be cut off
from his people.
Exod 37:29 And he made the holy anointing oil, and the
pure incense of sweet spices, according to the work of
the apothecary.
Eccl 10:1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the
apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a
little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.
The Bible gives the believer some guidelines to follow
concerning his walk.
He is to stay away from certain situation
Rom 16:19 For your obedience is come abroad
unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but

yet I would have you wise unto that which is good,
and simple concerning evil.
1Thess 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
And he is to be transformed from worldly thinking
Rom 12:1-3 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by
the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to
this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing
of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 3 For I say,
through the grace given unto me, to every man that is
among you, not to think of himself more highly than
he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as
God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
He should Follow his Savior's example and resist the Devil
by rebuking him with scripture
Matt 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Matt 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou
shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Matt 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence,
Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord
thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the
devil, and he will flee from you.
Yield himself to God and reckon himself dead to sin
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified
with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed,
that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Gal 2:19 For I through the law am dead to the law,
that I might live unto God.
1Pet 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own
body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins,
should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye
were healed.
Earnestly contend for the faith

Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write
unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for
me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should
earnestly contend for the faith which was once
delivered unto the saints.
III. The Savour of Repute- 2Cor 2:16
…we are… the savour of death… the savour of life
Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved
us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a
sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Gen 8:20-21 20 And Noah builded an altar unto the
LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean
fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And the
LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his
heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's
sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his
youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing
living, as I have done.
Exod 29:1 And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto
them to hallow them, to minister unto me in the
priest's office: Take one young bullock, and two rams
without blemish,
Exod 29:18 And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the
altar: it is a burnt offering unto the LORD: it is a sweet
savour, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Lev 1:9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water:
and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt
sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto
the LORD.
Lev 1:13 But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with
water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it upon the

altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a
sweet savour unto the LORD.
Lev 1:17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but
shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it
upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a
burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet
savour unto the LORD.
Lev 2:2 And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests:
and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof,
and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof;
and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar,
to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the
LORD:
Lev 2:9 And the priest shall take from the meat offering a
memorial thereof, and shall burn it upon the altar: it is an
offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
Lev 3:5 And Aaron's sons shall burn it on the altar upon
the burnt sacrifice, which is upon the wood that is on the
fire: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto
the LORD.

Lev 3:16 And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: it
is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour:
all the fat is the LORD'S.
Lev 4:31 And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the
fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings;
and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet
savour unto the LORD; and the priest shall make an
atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.
Lev 6:15 And he shall take of it his handful, of the flour of
the meat offering, and of the oil thereof, and all the
frankincense which is upon the meat offering, and shall
burn it upon the altar for a sweet savour, even the
memorial of it, unto the LORD.
Exod 5:18-23 18 Go therefore now, and work; for there
shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of
bricks. 19 And the officers of the children of Israel did see
that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not
minish ought from your bricks of your daily task. 20 And
they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they
came forth from Pharaoh: 21 And they said unto them,
The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have
made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of
Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in

their hand to slay us. 22 And Moses returned unto the
LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil
entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? 23
For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath
done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy
people at all.
2Sam 22:27 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure;
and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.
Job 6:6 Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without
salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?
Ezek 6:13 Then shall ye know that I am the LORD, when
their slain men shall be among their idols round about
their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the
mountains, and under every green tree, and under every
thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour
to all their idols.
Ezek 16:19 My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and
oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou hast even set it
before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, saith
the Lord GOD.

Ezek 20:28 For when I had brought them into the land, for
the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then
they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they
offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the
provocation of their offering: there also they made their
sweet savour, and poured out there their drink
offerings.
Joel 2:20 But I will remove far off from you the northern
army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate,
with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part
toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and
his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done
great things.
Matt 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have
lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is
thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to
be trodden under foot of men.
Matt 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee
behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou
savourest not the things that be of God, but those that
be of men.

2Cor 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word
of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of
God speak we in Christ.
IV. The Sufficiency of the Almighty- 2Cor 2:16
…Andwhois sufficient for these things?
2Cor 3:5-6 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves
to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency
is of God; 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of
the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit:
for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
2Cor 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels,
that the excellency of the power may be of God, and
not of us.

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that
abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth
much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
