Matt 6:22-32
Matt 6
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy
whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If
therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Lament. 3:51 - The eye is “the window to the soul.” If your eye is on one, single
subject (like Heaven, Jesus Christ, souls, etc.), then you will be okay. You ARE
what you see, hear, etc. In other words, the things that enter the holes on your head
will ruin you or make you better. What music goes in your ears? What pictures
and images go in your eyes? What drinks or food go in your mouth (smoking)?
What goes up the nose (sometimes drugs, cigarette smoke, etc.)?
The “Eye” is the focus of the heart.
Matt 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your
hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Prov 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine
own understanding.
Prov 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my
ways.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the
world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heartbe troubled, neither let it
be afraid.
Col 3:22-23 22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according
to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness
of heart, fearingGod: 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to
the Lord, and not unto men;
Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food,
and that it was pleasantto the eyes, and a tree to be desiredto make
one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also
unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Job 31:1 I made a covenantwith mine eyes; why then shouldI think
upon a maid?
Ps 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work
of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
2Pet 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannotcease from
sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercisedwith
covetous practices;cursed children:
Num 33:52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land
from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their
molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:
1Thess 5:1-8 1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have
no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectlythat
the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they
shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon
them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day shouldovertake
you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of
the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us
not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they
that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in
the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the
breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of
salvation.
Rom 16:19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am
glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I wouldhave you wise unto
that which is good, and simple concerningevil.
Matt 6
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love
the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot
serve God and mammon.
Jesus passes here from one snare to another; from the danger of thinking
too much of the praises of men to that of thinking too much of the
riches of earth.
Ps 49:18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will
praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
A Christian must decide that he will serve God even if it means he remains poor.
Decide to serve God, then if riches come, you can thank God. If they do not come,
then you are still laying up riches in heaven (Luke 12:20,21).
1Kgs 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long
halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if
Baal, then follow him. And the people answeredhim not a word.
Josh 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose
you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers
served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we
will serve the LORD.
1Sam 7:3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye
do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the
strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your
hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out
of the handof the Philistines.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor
hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
1Tim 6:6-11 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For
we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry
nothing out. 8 And having food and raimentlet us be therewith
content. 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare,
and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in
destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all
evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,
and piercedthemselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O
man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Prov 28:20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that
maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
Luke 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall
be requiredof thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou
hast provided?
Luke 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not
rich toward God.
Matt 6
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall
eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is
not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor
gather into barns; yet your heavenlyFather feedeth them. Are ye not much
better than they?
Matt 10:29-31 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one
of them shall not fall on the groundwithout your Father. 30 But the
very hairs of your headare all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye
are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one
of them is forgotten before God?
Ps 145:15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their
meat in due season.
Matt 6
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
Matt 5:36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst
not make one hair white or black.
Luke 12:25-26 25 And which of you with taking thought can add to
his stature one cubit? 26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which
is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
Luke 19:3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for
the press, because he was little of stature.
Matt 6
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not
arrayedlike one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and
to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of
little faith?
1Cor 9:9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle
the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care
for oxen?
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlastinglife: and he
that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God
abideth on him.
Phil 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need accordingto his
riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Jonah 4:11 And shouldnot I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein
are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern
between their right handand their left hand; and also much cattle?
Ps 147:9 He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens
which cry.
Matt 6
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we
drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenlyFather
knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Obviously, Christ is talking to the Jews because He says that the Gentiles seek
these things, and you (the Jew) are God’s chosenpeople. But the application of the
heathen (Gentile), lost man that God is taking care of, while the saved NT saint
worries about provisions can be made.
Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
