“So” Nehemiah
Words are windows to let
the light of thought in.
“So” frequently occurs in
the book of Nehemiah.
“So” can express size,
resolve, or indifference.
1. The “So” of Prayer-
Nehemiah 2:4
“So I prayed”
2
Neh 1:4 And it came to
pass, when I heard these
words, that I sat down
and wept, and mourned
certain days, and fasted,
and prayed before the
God of heaven,
Neh 2:4
4) Then the king said
unto me, For what dost
thou make request? So I
prayed to the God of
heaven.
Nehemiah prayed when
the king offered a blank
check.
3
2. The “So” of Purpose-
Nehemiah 2:11
“So I came”
Neh 2:11
11) So I came to
Jerusalem, and was there
three days.
He did not sit idly at home
when the Lord’s work
called away.
4
3. The “So” of Plod-
Nehemiah 4:6,10,18,21
“So we built”
Neh 4:6
So built we the wall; and
all the wall was joined
together unto the half
thereof: for the people
had a mind to work.
Neh 4:10
And Judah said, The
strength of the bearers of
burdens is decayed, and
there is much rubbish; so
that we are not able to
build the wall.
5
Neh 4:18
For the builders, every
one had his sword girded
by his side, and so
builded. And he that
sounded the trumpet was
by me.
Neh 4:21
So we laboured in the
work: and half of them
held the spears from the
rising of the morning till
the stars appeared.
Difficulties, enemies,
rubbish, and
discouragements did not
hinder.

4. The “So” of Persistence-
Nehemiah 6:3
“So that I cannot”
Neh 6:3
And I sent messengers
unto them, saying, I am
doing a great work, so
that I cannot come down:
why should the work
cease, whilst I leave it,
and come down to you?
The cure for mischief-
makers is to keep on with
the Lord’s work.

5. The “So” of Perfection-
Nehemiah 6:15
“So the wall was
finished”
Neh 6:15
So the wall was finished
in the twenty and fifth
day of the month Elul, in
fifty and two days.
Prayer Fed Purpose, And
Purpose Helped Plod, And
Persistence Was Crowned
With Perfection.

6. The “So” of Personality-
Nehemiah 5:15
“So did I”
Neh 5:15
But the former governors
that had been before me
were chargeable unto the
people, and had taken of
them bread and wine,
beside forty shekels of
silver; yea, even their
servants bare rule over
the people: but so did not
I, because of the fear of
God.
The man of God does not
walk in sin’s ways, nor
9
according to his own will
and wishes.
7. The “So” of Power-
Nehemiah 8:11
“So the Levites stilled
all the people”
Neh 8:11
So the Levites stilled all
the people, saying, Hold
your peace, for the day is
holy; neither be ye
grieved.
10
According to the law they
acted, and so influenced
others to be still.
Conclusion:
Small words have their
position as do seemingly
insignificant people;
So, take Nehemiah’s
example and apply yourself
to your position as God
accomplishes His mission.
