Social Medi A Great Way For Someone With Share Information...
Social Media is a great way for someone to share information with people from different cultures
and backgrounds. It is also a great way to stay connected to family and friends from all over the
world. Also, a great way to get to know more about someone that you may have recently met.
Social media has become a very important part of everyone s life but this new activity has its
advantages and disadvantages, especially in the workplace. At the UCF Community Care Center,
we do have a social media page on Facebook. Our Facebook page was established for a number of
reasons. UCF Community Care Center Facebook page facilitates open communication, leading to
enhanced information discovery and delivery; allows employees to discuss ideas, post... Show more

Now, after seeing this post, I regretted accepting this friend request and immediately unfriend
this employee. Some people tend to use social media, especially Facebook as an outlet and
would often rant and rave about certain things, and this is exactly what my employee did. She
ranted on Facebook instead of coming to me directly. As the new Practice Manager, I had made
some changes and implemented some rules that have to be followed by everyone but I was not
aware that this was creating a discomfort to some employees. I felt that I should have the type of
relationship with my employees where if something is bothering them then they should be able
to talk to me directly. As a Practice Manager, I am not in a co worker relationship with my
employees but rather in a supervisor subordinate relationship. My primary responsibility is to
build and maintain a good working bond with each of my employees. It is also my responsibility
to establish guidelines and avoid mixing business with pleasure. Interaction between my
employees and myself should be an acceptable one. As their manager, I will clearly outline what
is expected from employees. My job is to ensure that everyone remains productive throughout the
day. My job is not to be everyone s friend but instead I will maintain a take charge attitude to
avoid being taken advantage of by my subordinates. I will always be professional and continue to
practice good customer service, avoid foul

Henry David Thoreau s Resistance To Civil Government
Have you ever thought that the government had too much power, and didn t have the right
people making the laws that everyone is expected to abide by? There are many people, including
myself, that feel like the leadership we have influencing us in government isn t quite up to par.
Henry David Thoreau was one of those people as well. Though Thoreau had different reasons for
his belief than most do today, such as the war with Mexico and slavery, his principles still stand
strong in my opinion. In Resistance to Civil Government Thoreau starts off by telling us That
government is best which governs least; (945). During his writing he talks about how he doesn t
feel that the government proves itself to be useful to the citizens. He feels that the leaders of his
states government have been elected because of majority and power, instead of their... Show more

Bankston s piece, Thoreau s Case for Political Disengagement , both supports and disproves
Thoreau s insight. He sees Thoreau s point of view, and agrees with is way of peaceful protest.
He even compares the works of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. to Thoreau, by establishing a
common ground in peacefulness and morality between them. On the other hand, however, he
feels that the political quietism that Thoreau uses is not strong enough or clearly justified. He
expressibly makes his point with one statement during his essay; As a member of a family and a
participant in a political order, my own conscience necessarily responds to the demands of my
social position (Bankston). For me, it is easy to see where Bankston stands. He agrees that people
should just not sit by and watch the government run the country into the ground, but he is also not
willing to make stand because it would be against the powerful majority. This concept is exactly
what Thoreau was warning his readers about back then, and it still appears to be heavily debated

Why Is Power Important In The Great Gatsby
Money, success and power are determining factors in every major decision. The Great Gatsby
shows how that is relevant throughout the story. The majority of the book is focused around
trying to achieve the ultimate goal of success. Success shaped how characters developed and how
each of them take money, power and success relevant in every decision made. Throughout my
paper I will write about how money, power and success are key in this story.
Topic 1: They want to become successful.
Everyone wants to be successful. They strive to achieve unrealistic expectations. If everyone
makes 6 figures, then the dollar bill would become deluded. Inflation would be at a high. Not
everyone can be like Jay Gatsby.
Topic 2: Daisy chooses Money over Love
Many prefer love or money. Some prefer money over love. ... Show more content on

They could afford expensive houses and able to throw parties regularly. The people who didn t live
a lavish lifestyle were still attending the parties. The parties were amazing.
Topic 5: Maintaining your image
Characters like Jay Gatsby and Daisy had an image to maintain. People looked at them as if they
were special. They were noticed. Not everyone can be noticed though. Nick Carraway was often in
the background of these prolific characters.
Topic 6: Energy
I can t imagine how much energy it takes to be as renowned and famous as Jay Gatsby. He is
probably pestered most days. Measly matters and issues have consumed his life. This is quite sad.
Especially when he is unable to change how people look at him
Topic 7: Pressure
While being rich and famous sounds fun, it would come with much responsibility. People would
expect you to present yourself a certain way. You would also be expected to participate in certain
customs and social gatherings. The expectations placed upon someone of high wealth is quite
fascinating. I believe those expectations will never change

Executive Leadership In Relation To Company Success Essays
Executives in today s world could be compared to the coaches of a sports team. The executive
team members of a football program include the head coach, offensive line coach, defensive line
coach, running backs coach, wide receivers coach, secondary coach, and special teams coach. The
chief executive officer, or head coach, calls the plays. The chief operations officer and chief
financial officer are akin to the offensive line coach and defensive line coach respectively. The
chief operations officer oversees the daily operations of the company while the chief financial
officer oversees the financial stability of the company. The company operations generate revenue or

A leader s style can be classified as transactional, transformational, or what is considered level 5. A
transactional leader creates a very structured environment. Those leaders employing transactional
leadership create clearly defined responsibilities for employees and subordinates. Transactional
leadership details the rewards for success; unfortunately, transactional leadership also encompasses
an element of punishment for failure. The punishment can be something as simple as a reprimand
for small infractions up to termination for more serious infractions; the consequences are usually
well documented as a formal policy. The transformational leadership style goes far beyond
transactional leadership. A transformational leadership style is characterized by high energy,
sensibility, clarity in direction, and empathy. Transformational leaders inspire subordinates to go
beyond the norm and achieve goals on a greater scale than they thought possible. The
transformational leader promotes a mentoring relationship rather than a monitoring relationship.
Which leadership style is better? The answer would be neither, both have their place. The culture
and potential problems facing a company are factors that determine which leadership style works
best. While the leadership style is important, the leader is just as important. Anyone can be a
manager, but what does it take to become a great leader? What sets level 5 leaders apart from

An Extreme Near-Death Experience
A woman gets hit by a bus, goes into a coma, and experiences either seeing her body, or drifting
along the beach. This is an extreme near death experience, and this is the type of interaction that
this paper will go over. Not everybody believes in near death experiences, however thanks to
movies and T.V. they are becoming more popular. To understand exactly what an extreme near death
experience is, a person must first know the topic s background. A near death experience is any
close brush with death. This could range from getting shot to falling down the stairs. An extreme
near death experience, in this case, is when a person has an odd occurrence with something they
don t have any knowledge of. For example, a man goes hiking... Show more content on

That there is no such thing as an out of body experience. Many will ask, What about the people
who have had a near death experience, but have not had an out of body encounter? There is a
simple answer. Although this may be true, those people probably did not have an extreme near
death experience. For example, in a piece called My Near Death Experience, by John White
(2014), he has a near death experience in his town s pond. Mr. White dove head first into the
water, hit his head, and blacked out. He wrote that he, had no external perception, no sensory
awareness. I was simply floating idly, feeling more peaceful than I d ever been, (White, 2014).
One could say that Mr. White had a near death experience, but not an extreme one. People would
also say that no one could possibly leave their body without dying first. That is more than likely
false, if one were to ask the world if they believe in the supernatural, the majority would say yes.
There have been many accounts of spiritual encounters, of people leaving their bodies without
even having a near death experience. Another reason is, how could a person be one hundred
percent sure it is not an out of body experience if it did not personally happen to

Aldo Leopold’S Essay “The Land Ethic” Was Published In
Aldo Leopold s essay The Land Ethic was published in A Sand County Almanac. The short paper
confronts the imperfections in the most common approaches in preserving the environment.
Leopold s answer is to develop a new branch of environmental ethics to model humanity s ever
changing relationship with the environment. Leopold observantly describes the history of ethics, the
meaning of community with the land and why it s appropriate to do so. Toward the end of the
essay as the reader is ready for Leopold to thoroughly explain his moral code he ambiguously
finishes, A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic
community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise (Leopold, 224 225). The reader... Show more

Again, the reader turns to Leopold to provide a concrete ethical viewpoint. But this is nearly
impossible because Leopold doesn t have the answers to fix the biotic clock. Any viewpoint he
relays might result in complete failure.
Leopold is calling for a philosophical shift rather than a change in our actions. In the beginning of
the essay, Leopold references The Ten Commandments and The Golden Rule. The pair of ethical
viewpoints guides our everyday relationships in society. The Ten Commandments is a
documentation of ten moral rules that are set in stone (pun intended.) The Golden Rule is a single
principle of mutuality: treat others how you want to be treated. While one approach is only to be
obeyed, the other depends on deep self reflection. To truly know how to treat someone, we must
think about consequences and respect one another. The land ethic is not a list of rules, which
should be taken for what it is, but an attitude that can change on a daily basis. Leopold seeks to
reconstruct humanity s ethical knowledge to its core. He observes the way humans interact
compassionately, and is determined to explain why it is important to extend this compassion to the
environment. It is inconceivable to me that an ethical relation to the land can exist without love,
respect, and admiration for land and a high regard for its value (Leopold

The grey fog comes in, there is mist in the air, the cold wind increases my alertness and the
uneasiness of everyone causes silence for a brief moment until the high pitched blow of a whistle
starts it all. This sounds like a setting to a suspenseful corny movie but really it s just a typical
gameday here at San Francisco State University.
Unlike all other game days, this one is very special. We take on UC San Diego in hopes of securing
a playoff spot. My emotions have been running all over the place, and no it s not because I am a
young adult trying to get through college. I have been playing soccer for 15 years already so it is
safe to say that soccer is my life. All I do is constantly train to get better and improve as much as I
can and today is my chance to showcase my talent at the highest level I ve played at so far. It s my
second year at SFSU and my second year playing soccer here and with 20 games already recorded
for me at the school, I should be coming into the game with a cool head but I am far from it.
Chills run down my spine as I put on my cleats to complete my uniform. During our warm ups I
try and clear my mind and enjoy the music but I can t even accomplish doing that. 30 minutes go

before the game is about to begin.

Genteel People and Honest Hearts in Jane Austen s Emma...
Emma: Genteel People and Honest Hearts
In Emma, Jane Austen gives us only the surface of the lives of genteel people ? Though not
necessarily a commonly used term today, the meaning of genteel people is easily assumed. Good
birth and breeding are not necessarily the only qualities of genteel people: simple generosity,
courtesy and elegance can also apply, as well as marriage into the class. The majority of the
characters in Emma to some extent expand this definition to provide exceptions to the rule or abuses
of the title. In this way the characters provide an interesting answer to the question of whether or
not Austen actually deals with genteel people.
Mrs and Miss Bates are genteel people and of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If she had been able to procure the necessary husband, there is no doubt that her gentility would
have become permanent. As it was, she married for love and the intimacy between her and Emma
must sink, that is, she has lost her albeit precarious hold on gentility.
Jane Fairfax is, at her introduction to the reader, in ready danger of slipping from the class that she
deserves through both breeding and character. Jane s orphaned status and increasing years mean
that if she does not find a suitable husband in the near future, a governor s position will soon be
beckoning. Fortunately for her, the engagement to Frank Churchill has secured Jane s position, as
he has genteel breeding and was brought up in the Churchill household a very prestigious claim.
Jane s position is almost the reverse of Mrs Weston nГ©e Taylor. The life of a governess was
seemingly inescapable, save for the connection to Mr. Weston. Mr. Woodhouse s cries for poor
Miss Taylor illustrate his social blindness when he cannot recognise the constant desire to further
oneself.
The notion of manners maketh man can also be used to judge the gentility of the persons involved.
That of Mr Knightley is proven at the ball when, despite his reservations about Harriet and dancing,
he chooses to rescue her from the humiliation of Mr Elton s snub illustrating his good manners and

An Interview With Andrea Williams, Principal Of Elena...
Using Strategic Planning
This information was gathered in an interview with Andrea Williams, Principal of Theresa Bunker
Elementary. In the past three years that Mrs. Williams has been principal of this school she has
brought a strong focus onto using data to make appropriate instructional decisions as well as
execute strategic planning to help the school progress. The implementation of the PLC process
has helped the teachers to gain an understanding of how valuable data collection and analysis can
be for their teaching practice. Looking at data also helps the school attain the yearly goals laid
out by the district s strategic plan. One of the first steps taken in developing a strategic plan for
the school is to gather and analyze data in order to find the school s strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities for growth as well as any threats to the progress of the school. Early in the year the
strategic planning team will review quantitative data collected from student achievement scores,
attendance rates, discipline trends, financial records, transportation reports, and so forth. Depending
upon the specific issue addressed in the planning process, these types of quantitative data serve to
inform decision making processes. The collection of qualitative data is also an integral part of best
practices in development of a strategic plan. Qualitative data collection includes use of surveys,
focus groups, and interviews with key stakeholder groups. It is important and useful to

The Civil Rights Achievements Of The Famous African...
This autobiographical analysis will define the civil rights achievements of the famous African
American actor, Canada Lee. Lee s background as a jockey, boxer, and a musician would set the
stage for a major acting career in theater and in Hollywood. More importantly, Lee would use his
fame as an actor to promote racial equality through the support of Hollywood magnates, such as
Orson Wells, and through the theatrical/literary guidance of Langston Hughes. Lee would be
become known for his role in Lifeboat (1944) by Alfred Hitchcock, but he would also get other
roles in throughout this historical period. These successes as an actor propelled Lee to the

The cast wore ballroom finery and the witches magic was turned into voodoo (Mordden 236).
This major breakthrough for lee was a crucial moment in his acting career, since he was
catapulted into fame through the support of Welles. More so Langston Hughes began to take
notice of Lee s burgeoning success, which eventually inspired Hughes to write to versions of his
novels into theatrical dramas. During this time, Lee and Hughes were denied financial support
for the two plays, yet Lee eventually went onto great stage success by performing in Richard
Wright s theatrical drama of native Son (1941). More so, Welles was, once again, the primary
support for producing Native Son, which provided a an even greater public platform for Lee s
civil rights activism in the 1940s. Lee s theatrical success would not only garner him critical
acclaim as an actor, but he would also use this fame to promote racial equality and justice for
African Americans. During WWII, Lee would speak out against racial division in the U.S.
military, which segregated black soldiers from white soldiers (Biondi 10). In this manner, Lee
spoke throughout the country about the problem of segregation, which allowed him to exploit his
fame for the cause of African American civil rights: He felt honor bound to use his success as a
platform to fight for equal rights, for his people and for all people suffering social, political, and
economic injustices (Smith

Home Ownership And The Foreclosure Crisis
Many families lost their homes to foreclosure during the recent economic downturn in the US
economy. These former homeowners became renters as the national home ownership rate dropped.
Many families felt that home ownership would remain out of their reach due to previous
foreclosure history. In addition, losing your home and transitioning to rentingis tough on your
psyche. However, as rental rates continue to increase and the economy recovers these same
families now see possibilities of home ownership again. The housing market has characterized the
buyers as Boomerang Buyers .Approximately 5 million people lost their homes to foreclosure or
short sale and become potential boomerang buyers. Quietly, by buying homes again, these buyers...

For example, the landlord and tenant may agree that $1,500 in monthly rent is appropriate, and
$200.00 per month in additional rent credits will go towards an eventual down payment for the
home. In this example, the tenant will pay a total of $1,700 per month. The option fee and rent
credits are almost always non refundable, and will go towards the down payment at the end of the
term.
There are many benefits to the Rent to Own option, including living in and taking care of the home
prior to purchase. While paying each month toward the lease purchase, the buyer can continue to
improve credit history and begin to build equity in the home. The Rent to Own option is a great way
to get into a specific neighborhood with the opportunity to purchase the home without the penalty
of a large down payment or previous bad credit history. If the buyer has recently regained
employment this option allows further building of employment history. While there
aredisadvantages to every option, specific, and clear communication can resolve many issues up
front. The major consideration in the Rent to Own option is the loss of rent credits and the option
fee toward the purchase if the tenant determines that the home is not what they wanted. In addition,
if the market changes and the fixed price of the home is higher than the market demand the tenant
is contractually obligated to the agreed upon price. So as a

Cervical Cancer Case Study
For the given assignment, I chose Cervical Cancer as the health outcome and the screening tests
recommended by the USPSTF for the age group of 30 to 65. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer
arising from the cervix. In more than 90% of the cases HPV infection is involved in the
development of the disease. The current annual incidence rate for the disease is 6.6 cases per
100,000 women, and the age adjusted mortality rate is 2.4 deaths per 100,000 (for 2003 to 2007).
Five year survival rates in the United States are 68%. Worldwide, it is the fourth most common
cause of death from cancerin women. The risk factors associated with cervical cancerinclude
smoking, HIV infection, using birth control pills for long time etc.
Benefits and Harms of screening test:
According to a study, screening of population for cervical cancer has reduced cervical cancer rates
by 60% to 90% within 3 years of its implementation, thus reducing mortality and morbidity
associated with the disease.
For women belonging to the age group of 30 to 65 years, USPSTF recommends screening tests
to be done by combination of cytology and pap smear once every 5 years. It is beneficial for
women to undergo co testing of cytology with Pap smear test because it would increase the
screening interval. Also, pap smear has high sensitivity but low specificity, thereby increasing the

Nt1310 Unit 3 Activity 1 Summary
Activity 1 presents the challenge of detecting vehicles in front of a stereo camera and determining
the distance to them using stereo data. The team accomplished this by creating a disparity map
from the two rectified images and then plotting a point cloud based on this data. A cascaded
object detector is then used to get regions of interest (ROIs) where vehicles are in frame. These
ROIs are then used to extract the depth of the vehicle in the point cloud. The result is a distance to
the identified vehicle.
A.1 Computer Vision Function Descriptions
One frame from each camera is pulled into the program and then rectified based on calibration of
each camera. The calibration process takes in the camera calibration parameters of the cameras, the
rotation, and translation of the second camera in relation to the first camera. After being rectified
based on the calibration, a disparity map is created. A disparity map is an intensity map that shows

For activity 2, the frame is run through a thresholding function that creates a binary image based on
the histogram levels that are similar to that of a stop sign. Any pixel that falls within the levels are
then converted to a value of one and the rest are set to zero. The binary image is then put
through two morphological operators, open and close. The open morphological operator gets
rid of smaller clutters of pixels as defined by the parameters that are passed in to the function.
The close morphological operator fills in clusters of pixels that are the shape of the parameter
passed to the function. In this case, the shape is an octagon just like a stop sign. The last step is
to run the binary image through blob analysis to get the ROIs that are of a specified minimum
size. Once the ROIs have been found, they are passed into the cascade object detector for

2500 Years Of War Summary
Introduction
...Marketing warfare will provide a strategic model for company survival in the 21st century...
The authors main aim in publishing this text was to bring to the forefront the aggressive
behaviours displayed in the marketing process of a firm in order to keep their brand and company
number one in a competitive industry. In addition, they wanted to show how the principles used in
warfare are the same as that used in marketing. As a result, firms could look at different tactics used
in war and apply it to their organization.

Deadlines are often missed and a company often loses credibility in the eyes of the public.
Ries and Trout believe that it is strategy that determines success not hard work. In marketing, a firm
will achieve success through a smarter strategy and not by doing more paperwork and spending
longer time in meetings.
The nature of the battleground
This section addresses the importance of where marketing battles are fought in the minds of the
consumer.
Like any battle, the terrain must be carefully studied and analyzed for its defensive and offensive
possibilities. The enemy s position must also be carefully examined, taking note of strengths and
weaknesses.
In marketing warfare what you are trying to find out is who holds the higher ground. This would
give you an advantage over your competitors.
In a military war, hills and mountains represent strong positions and are used to present a strong
defence. In comparison to a marketing warfare, management refers to strong positions as high
ground. When a customer uses a brand name in place of generic, this shows who holds mountain in
their mind. An example of this in the book is when consumers label all tissues as Kleenex.
Mountains are segmented and competitors may launch different brands each targeting a specific
segment. Today, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Buick each own different segments of the
automobile market.

Analysis Of The Book The Lottery Essay
When I think of the lottery, I think of a game basically where they choose one number and
something or something gets chosen.
* Setting can best be defined as: B. Thy physical location, time, and social environment in which
a story takes place. In the first paragraph, the setting is described as a beautiful sunny day that is
during the summer. Everything is in bloom and the grass is green. Basically, during this first
paragraph, the author describes it as a perfect day which shows how nice it is and making the
reader not realize what the townspeople are actually going to do, which is the opposite of how this
day really is. This sets a peaceful and happy tone and atmosphere throughout the beginning of the
story.
Mood can best be defined as: A. The emotional effect or feeling that a text creates in a reader. The
mood that the villagers seem to be in is a happy and normal mood because they feel that the lottery
is just another normal day. They are neither sad nor angry, just content and used to the tradition of
doing the lottery. They act like nothing is wrong and do not care who dies. I can tell that they are
in a content mood because they don t care about doing the lottery and feel that it is an important
part of their lives. The type of event that the lottery seems to be is a gathering where they chose to
kill one person by stoning them to death.

Procrastination Is Natural Essay
Is procrastination natural? Procrastination cannot be considered natural, because natural can be
define as something that people have become use to doing in their everyday live. In his recent Ted
Talk, Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator, Tim Urban, states that everybody is a
procrastinator, and honestly, I disagree with his idea. Not everybody is a procrastinator.
In the article, What we finally got around to learning at procrastination research conference , by
Heather Murphy, she states that at least one out five people are procrastinators. (Murphy, 2017) In
making this comment, Murphy (2017) argues his audience to believe that not everyone can be
considered to be a procrastinator. Now considering that one out five people are procrastinators in
their live, can there be any side effects to procrastination? Been a procrastinator can have side
effects, for example anxiety, stress, and tension. Personally, I believe that students go more
through this side effects because they are always being bombarded with due dates before the
semester has even started. As reported by, Erin Ben Moche from the Chicago Tribune
newspaper, Teens report that their stress level during the school year far exceeds what they
believe to be healthy (5.8 versus 3.9 on a 10 point scale) and tops adults average reported stress
levels (5.8 for teens versus 5.1 for adults) (Erin Ben Moche, 2017, par.3) In other words, Erin
believes that teen students stress more than adults because of school. As a student, I personally
haven t dealt with this kind of high stress, but in the other hand, I met teenagers who have dealt
with this kind of stress during mid terms
In the Ted Talk by Tim Urban, he touches the topic of anxiety and stress. He goes on by saying
that guilt, dread, anxiety, and self hatred can be a dark playground when people are doing last
minute paperwork or assignments. (Urban, 2016) Like I stated in the beginning of my essay,
procrastination is not something that everyone does, procrastination is more like a decision
someone decides to take when they are been lazy. According to Adam Grant s article, Why I
thought myself to procrastinate, For years, I believed that anything worth doing was worth doing
early. In

Coco Chanel Bibliography
Coco Chanel
At the start of the twentieth century, the idea of women in business seemed crazy. In those days,
men held all the positions of power and made all the decisions about money. They believed that a
woman s place was in the home, looking after her children, cooking for her family and managing
the house. If a woman needed to work she could perhaps find a job in a shop or in a factory, but she
had no chance of working as a businesswoman or a banker or a lawyer.
Women s fashions in the US and Europe at that time supported this idea of their position in society.
Fashionable women wore long dresses that almost touched the ground. This made it difficult for
them to drive a car, ride a horse or even walk quickly. As a result, they... Show more content on

The war will be finished by Christmas. But after a few weeks, it was clear that they were wrong.
More and more men left Deauville to go and fight in the French army. Soon the expensive hotels
were changed into hospitals, full of soldiers who had been hurt in the fighting. The rich
Frenchwomen of Deauville saw that it was their duty to help the French army and many of them
took jobs as nurses in the hospitals or did other kinds of war work. But after a few days they
realized that it was impossible to work in their long dresses. They looked around for different
things to wear. They found the answer in Coco Chanel s new shop. Her simple hats, loose jackets
and straight skirts were just what these women needed. They were stylish, but they allowed women
to move around quickly. Coco was soon selling clothes as fast as she could make them.
For the next three years, Coco travelled between her businesses, while the First World War
continued in the north and east of France. By 1916, over three hundred people were working for
her. She soon made so much money that she could pay back Boy Capek all that she had
borrowed. Coco had been lucky because the war had given her a chance to make her new designs
popular. When the war is finished, in November 1918, Coco was ready to start the next and most

Colonial Identity
The English colonies each had their own identity/name. Despite having their different names,
religious beliefs, laws, and economic activity, the colonies all had one common link which was the
country of Great Britain. All the colonies had to officially claim their identities by getting a
character from the King of Great Britain, and all 13 were generally under British rule. During the
17th and 18th centuries the colonists began to make agreements and compacts regarding unification
to benefit the general colonial population. The colonies were striving to become unified with each
other, but some clones had different approaches toward unity that did not coincide with other
colonists beliefs. However, some colonies had the same specific reasons... Show more content on

Living In A Small Town Essay
Living in a Small Town in a Big City
Everyone has a different opinion when they have to choose between live in a small town or a big
city. Some people think that living in a small town is peaceful because they feel much closer to the
nature, while the others choose to live in a big city because of its entertainment such as cinemas,
shopping centers, club, and concerts. Also, there are several similarities between small town and a
big city which is history, mission, vision, values, and goals to make their place become much
better. However, most people still do not know how to decide whether they want to live in a small
town or a big city and one of the ways to solve this is to compare them at several points.
Living in a big city can be very different from a small town. Since there are a lot of opportunities
to find a job in a big city, most people have their own variety of occupations. In the morning,
people are wake up and get ready to work. There are several occupations that most people in a big
city have, such as businessman, architect, entrepreneur and etc. Most of them are typically a hard

A small town is known by their peacefulness and by their nature sounds of animals in the
morning or during the night. Different from a small town, a big city is noisier because they have
a lot of variety of machine sounds such as sirens, honks, vehicles, and people. Those kind of
sounds will block out the natural noises that people would hear in a small town. It is not only the
noise that is very different from both of them but also the air pollution. A small town has more fresh
air and it means people in a small town are breathing healthier air than people in a big city. Unlike

The social issue of immigrant homelessness is the topic our group has chosen for this report. Being
children of immigrant parents, we felt more connected to this topic. This issue concerns us because
it is an issue of inequality and a crime against basic human rights which simply cannot be swept
under a rug. Every human being has worth and deserves a right to having their basic needs met.
Toronto, research and data collected on homeless immigrants identifies the unstable realities they

What this does is constitute a lack of means for individuals to provide for themselves in an
economy that signifies a lack of financial means. Practices such as this can lead to unemployment
for a vast majority of individuals, which is inextricably linked to the perpetuation of homelessness.
Pro businesses, rather than public institutions, benefit more from government subsidies when said
governments place emphasis on corporate welfare over social welfare. According to the course
textbook, North American governments have increased the subsidies for corporate welfare four
times more than for social welfare (Centennial College, 2015). In the past three and a half decades,
the subsidy percentage for social welfare has decreased so much so that individuals living below
the poverty line survive only through the help of food banks (Centennial College, 2015). With
governments focusing their efforts on corporate welfare, individuals on social welfare are put at a
greater disadvantage. Due to the lack of support for social welfare, it is safe to logically assume
that individuals who require assistance will not be getting the financial support necessary to thrive
in an economic system that creates inequalities. As such, because poverty and homelessness are

While completing this job, I took on the leadership position within the group. Setting deadlines,

The Pros And Cons Of The Teen Curfew Laws
In the past few years, the juvenile crime and the safety of teenagers had lead a lot of countries to
make the teenager curfew laws. According to an article wrote by Crystal Lombardo that The
curfew law means that who is under the age of 18 will be able to get as much adult supervision as
possible, lessening the chances to them getting involved in juvenile crimeand violence as many
cities in US enforced the curfewlaws for minors to keep them safe from any danger and prevent
them from getting in any trouble, as a lot of people think that a curfew law keeps teenagers out of

as one of the cons of curfew laws that it brings out the false sense of security that parents thinks
that it will keep them away from trouble but it may not as they can be involved in violence that

their parent s decision without argument so they have less of a personality comparing to Teens who

opinions that curfews are unconstitutional because it gives the government the right to interfere
with a person s life and privacy and personal opinions which would affect them badly.
So the contradiction between the pros and cons of the curfew laws still the same, some people
believe that the curfew laws is better to be applied in our life because it has a lot of advantage in
which it ensures teenagers safety and make them responsible about things in their life, while other
thinks that it hinder maturity of their children and impose autocratic parents by losing sight over

The flow of blood through the heart is controlled by four valves. If any are not working correctly,
blood cannot flow or be pumped effectively to the heart. The four valves are: the tricuspid,
pulmonary semilunar, mitral, and aortic semilunar. There are many abnormalities or defects that
can affect their operation and in this paper, I will discuss the most common one which is a mitral

The use of beta blockers to slow the heart rate may benefit patients who have episodes of
tachycardia, or rapid heartbeats, with the mitral valve prolapse. Unless it has progressed to
something severe, the patientwill probably not need treatment. If it has become severe, then the
patient can benefit from surgery to repair or replace the leaky valve. Although it sounds scary, it is
a condition that can be managed quite easily and the patient can live a normal lifestyle without any

Effect Of Postimpressionists On The Next Generation Essay
Postimpressionism
Postimpressionism was a movement in late 19th century French painting that emphasized the artist
s personal response to a subject. Postimpressionism takes its name from an art movement that
immediately preceded it: Impressionism. But whereas impressionist painters concentrated on the
depiction of a subject s immediate appearance, postimpressionists focused on emotional or spiritual
meanings that the subject might convey. Although impressionist artists interpreted what they saw,
their approach nevertheless remained rooted in observation of the natural world. Postimpressionists
conveyed their personal responses to the world around them through the use of strong, unnatural

The unnaturally blocky forms of the bathers bodies conform to the angularity of the trees that frame
them. To unify different parts of the composition, he used shades of green, brown, and blue
interchangeably in the depiction of sky, earth, flesh, and foliage. The unfinished quality of
CГ©zanne s paintings and his choppy, unblended brushstrokes convey the immediacy of his
personal experience. His technique appealed strongly to other postimpressionists seeking ways to
evoke emotional responses in viewers.
Seurat and van Gogh also drew their subjects from the world around them; Seurat concentrated
primarily on the urban life of Paris, while van Gogh focused on rural scenes. The symbolist
movement, a literary movement that stressed the expression of the artist s inner vision as the
purpose of art, influenced both artists, along with Van Gogh s friend Paul Gauguin.
While in Paris in 1886, Vincent van Gogh experimented briefly with neoimpressionism, but found
its techniques too restrictive. Instead, he used broader brush strokes and incorporated large zones
of single colors into his compositions. A former preacher, van Gogh gave his paintings a spiritual
charge through technique, subject matter, and color. The thick, energetic brushstrokes in Crows in
the Wheatfields (1890), which he painted just two and a half weeks before his suicide, suggest
turbulence. Dark birds hover in a brilliant blue sky

Relationship Between Female And Economic Growth Essay
A Research about the Relationship between Female Rights and Economic Growth
Yingru Ouyang
April, 2015
Economics
Abstract
Previous research has provided robust evidence for proving the positive correlation between
education and economic development. However, those studies do not specifically analyze how the
female s availability to education rights has changed over time and the implications of those
changes in relation to the economic development. Furthermore, I will also discuss how women s
other rights change contribute to economic development. Initially, to assess women s availability to
these rights, I use administrative records from CIRI Human Rights Project. I find substantial
changes in the female s rights affect the economic growth between 2005 and 2014. Those changes
are used to conclude that the progress of women s rights has a negative impact on economic growth.

IntroductionNowadays, women enjoyed their equal legal rights with men. But this phenomenon
was not the same as the old time. In a long period of time ago, most of the women in the world
are considered as people who do not deserve to have rights, no matter women in the richest
countries or the poorest countries. For example, in 1772 B.C., one of the most civilised countries,

Victorian Era In The Victorian Era
As I began my journey through this research project I knew I wanted to focus on England, as it
is one of the oldest counties and has such an intriguing story. With a history filled with rises and
falls in laced with power and corruption and flourishing fueled by the industrial revolution,
England is a legend in itself. Riddled with rolling hills and intricate underlying structures that
make England s geographical map look more like the work of a craftful painter. (England) As I
peeled back the many layers of English history I found myself entranced by the Victorian Era. Its
namesake Queen Victoria, known for bring respect and honor back to the royal family. This was
founded upon one of the earliest constitutional monarchs in the world, that is still in place today.
The Victorian era had a very harsh and unforgiving economy that led to poverty flooding
throughout the country, and a hate for immigrants rising. The lives of the people were influenced
heavily by the church and controlled almost all of their daily lives. (Victorian era England Life of
Victorians) Looking throughout the many years of the Victorian era, one year stuck out to me as
a very important time for England. This year was 1888, in the wake of the industrial revolution
big business thrived while poverty was at an all time high and the country was in fear due to the
Jack the Rippermurders. (White) Through these two events arised a whole new kind of journalism,

Research by Whiteley and Seyd (2002) backs up this claim as they note that the decline in party
membership and party activism has been documented by grass roots party members in the UK
for over ten years. Whiteley (2006) further supports this claim as he notes that there has been a
weakening of partisan attachments within the electorate, and that over time there has been a
long term decline towards party identification. He goes on to note that in 1964, when surveys
first started to be used, almost 50% of the electorate had strong party identification towards a
particular political party, but by 2001 this had reduced to only 13% of the electorate. He
concluded by saying that although party identification had clearly declined over the years, the
majority of voters still have some form of partisan attachments, although clearly a lot weaker than
it once was. Meaning voters can now be more easily persuaded to switch parties. Research by
Budge, Newton, McKay and Bartle (1998) also show that there has been a decline in party
identification. They state that between the years 1945 to 1970, 44.8% of the electorate described
themselves as being Conservative, 46.8% as Labour, 7.1% as Liberal Democrats and only 1.3%
identified themselves as having attachments with other smaller parties. However, in 2005

Discoveries In The Double Helix By James Watson
Discoveries
The Double Helix, written by James Watson, begins with him being 17 years old already
heading of to study at college. He was currently studying at University of Chicago in his 3rd
year. He was studying Zoology and was hoping for a PHD. As a scientist, Watson questioned the
essence of life and mostly how the information of life was copied. Therefore he wanted to be a
geneticist. He observed Linus pauling and his work and applied to caltech but was unfortunately
declined. Therefore in Indiana he went after DNA and its meaning and form. Over this process he
worked with many people and came to many discoveries that help them in their journeys.
A helix
The discovery of the Alpha helix came up when, James Watson was one day alerted that Linus
Pauling had partially solved the structure of proteins. Following up on this James found out that,
in on of Pauling s talks he revealed the alpha helix model. This was a large event in the race for
DNA because Linus was the first person to propose something solidly correct about DNA
structure. This new event however, did not provide a lot of progress for James s work because of
at the time how he could not tell if this suggestion was correct or not. Later on this information did
help them because they took on the helical shape with the addition of x ray evidence.

bodies had long forgotten the bitter taste of tears ( Wiesel pg. 63) Elie Wieseluses this quotation to
demonstrate that they completely forgot how to cry. The use of the phrase bitter taste of tears
implies that Elie has not cried since his arrival at Auschwitz. He has showed no love to anyone
including his father. All the emotions have been taking away including positive and negative. There
is no emotion left. Connotative language demonstrates that

Switzerland and the Concept of Comparative Advantage
While most in today s hyper competitive global economy look towards countries including; China,
India, Taiwan, Vietnam, and others in search of lower production costs seeking the ever illusive
comparative advantage, others have different ideas. Switzerland, a tiny land locked nation in central
Europe surrounded by Alps with a relatively small population of 7,630,605 is one such country. It
operates with its own comparative advantage in the industries of ... Show more content on

As Switzerland is unable to compete globally in the area of inexpensive goods and services
including; toys, manufactured goods, and other products used in mass by today s consumer it is
advised that the nation continue to produce products it currently specializes in along with
expanding its current services to attract foreign investment into the Swiss economy.
Industries of Specialization and Opportunity
As most already know, the Swiss are renowned for their production of high quality chocolates
including those of the Toblerone and Lindt brands. Switzerland has a comparative advantage in
the production of chocolate. By spending one hour producing two pounds of chocolate, it gives
up producing one pound of cheese, whereas, if it spends that hour producing cheese, it gives up
two pounds of chocolate. Thus, the good in which comparative advantage is held is the good
that the country produces most efficiently (chocolate). Therefore, if given a choice between
producing two goods (or services), a country will make the most efficient use of its resources by
producing the good with the lowest opportunity cost, the good in which it holds the comparative
advantage, and by trading for the other good. (Globalization101.org, 2010) While chocolates are
one of this country s specialties it s not the only one. Other areas of specialty already realized and
being readily utilized by the Swiss are the

Opal Card Essay
The Opal card is a contactless smartcard that is the new centrepiece of the new electronic
ticketing system implemented by Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS). It allows the user to top
up a balance either through manual loading (via Opal top up machines), or linked to a credit
card. This balance is used against Opal card readers to scan where the trip begins and ends,
automatically calculating the fare and deducting it from the balance on the card. In the event that
the trip has been started, but not finished (scanned only once within a day), a default fare will be
charged to the card. The Opal card needs to abide by the Identification cards Contactless integrated

The Cretaceous Er The Last And Longest Segment Of The...
According to a live science, an article written by Mary Bagley, The Cretaceous Period was the last
and longest segment of the Mesozoic Era. It lasted approximately 79 million years, from the minor
extinction event that closed the Jurassic Period about 145.5 million years ago to the Cretaceous
Paleogene extinction event dated at 65.5 million years ago (Mary Bagley, LS). In the cretaceous
period, the continent of Pangea was still breaking away from itself, forming what we now know
as the seven world continents. In the many eras of dinosaurs, the cretaceous era was responsible
for evolving some, but not all the dinosaurs from full land dinosaurs to some who were able to live
both on land and in water, semi aquatic carnivorous dinosaurs. This era had produced some of the
dinosaurs that maybe us non paleontologist are more familiar with like the all mighty tyrannosaurus
rex or the long neck. Well let me tell you, there were a lot more dinosaurs than just those two.
Although the tyrannosaurs rex was an enormous dinosaur, a bigger dinosaur was discovered in
1912, the Spinosaurus. This discovery would change peoples, kids, and paleontologists view on
which dinosaur was bigger than the other. This semi aquatic dinosaur, Spinosaurus, was much
larger than the T rex due to its sail like backbones that stuck out of its back. Furthermore,
spinosaurus had a huge advantage that the tyrannosaurus rex did not.

The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian Essay
NicolГЎs JuГЎrez
Each funeral was a funeral for all of us : Notions of Race, Identity and Mortality in Sherman
Alexie s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian The American Indian occupies a unique
place in the White American imaginary. Indians, one is told, are cordial, wise, poor in the humble
poverty sort of way, brown, there assist whites with either mystic knowledge or humorous
ignorance. Figures such as Squanto, Tonto and Disney s Pocahontas along with a large smattering
of Westerns and cartoonish depictions have created this image of the Native American an image
which rarely translates into the present day. In contrast to this, Sherman Alexie s novel The
Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian is a Native American coming of age story centered
around the first person point of view of the Native protagonist Arnold Junior Spirit, Jr. and his dual
life on the Spokane Indian Reservation and his time off the reservation at an all white public school
in the town of Reardan, Washington. The novel revolves around themes like race, identity formation
and mortality and details life on Indian reservations as it attempts to give a realistic account of
contemporary Native American life, each which shape the novel in unique ways. As the novel
explores how race operates between whites and Indians, it displays the way that race shapes Arnold
s life as a mixed Indian (half white, half Indian). Early in the novel, Arnold, describes his
experience with the dentist

stamina usage.
I enjoy the thrill of making a shots from any part of the court. Being able to shoot a mid range
shot with a defender on me gives me a boost of adrenaline. When I m coming down the court and

Stamina is one of the key elements in the sport. If you don t know how to conserve your stamina
you ll be tired before the end of the game. My stamina is good but I m a smoker so I have to watch
my breathing or else I ll start wheezing. Sometimes my breathing drains my stamina due to
straining during my breaths and when I get sick and play it s hard for me to breathe. For the most
part I can control my stamina and play multiple games before I get fatigued.
Showing off my skills and using my advantages to win a game. One of my skills is hesitation
being able to hesitate makes the opponent wondering about my next move. When hesitating you
can act as if you re going right but go left and sometimes it turns into a hesitation cross over. An
advantage I have is being taller and heavier than other players. Being taller helps me shot over my
opponent without them blocking me. Me being heavier than my opponent I can back them down
and make an easy layup.
Basketball is a very exciting sport that I enjoy very much. Stamina is a big percentage of the
sport. Knowing how to make shots can be thrilling. Showing off skill and using advantages may
be beneficial. Basketball is my favorite sport because it exercises my body, mind, and makes me feel

Rubin Hurricane Carter Depicted In The Movie The...
Everyday extraordinary events happen. Events of survival, overcoming great odds, sometimes
luck and occasionally stories of great injustice. The story of Rubin Hurricane Carter could
defiantly be perceived as one of great injustice. It could also be perceived as a immensely
manipulated story made popular due to the views of famous and important people. The most
popular belief is the story showcased in the 1999 movie The Hurricane. The film tells the story of
an innocent carter, framed for the murder of three innocent white people and sentenced to jail for
life only to be freed.
Upon viewing the film you are left believing that carter is a wonderful human being incapable of
the murders. However the story of the real Rubin Carter has much to be desired. Many facts of the
events remain the same, rarely are events changed completely , but much is left out or altered. This
is achieved in the film by silencing significant people. The primary example of this is John Artis.
John Artis was Rubin s alleged accomplice at the night of the shootings. John was mentioned maybe
twice throughout the whole film even though he also allegedly committed the crimes. There are
other examples of silencing. Other notable people silenced are; the victims families, the prosecuting
lawyers and others officers involved in Rubin s arrest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Post Conquest Mexico Essay
In 1521, the fall of Tenochtitlan proved to be an integral piece in the Spanish conquest of Mexico.
After months of devastating warfare between the Aztecs and the Spanish as well as the infection
of smallpox into the Aztec population, the Spanish conquered New Spain (Mexico) as their own,
resulting in the Spanish occupation and rebuilding of Tenochtitlan. The reshaping of the city was
an arduous and complex feat to say the least, as Hernan CortГ©s faced many challenges following
the satisfying victory of the conquest. In order to determine these various challenges involved in
post conquest Mexico, one must assess the various feats CortГ©s struggled through as well as
Carlos I s attempts to deal with the chaos in Mexico. The most decisive endeavours that the
Spaniards faced included: fixing a city of ruins, incorporating the indigenous peoples into society,
and creating a Christian basis throughout the land. Thus, post conquest Mexico faced a magnitude
of challenges based on the socio political, religious, and economic values necessary to conceive
their perfect image... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The significance in solving the problems of rebuilding Tenochtitlan, bringing the natives into the
Spanish homelands, and creating a Christian society in New Spain were integral to the initial
success of the Spanish colonies. CortГ©s and Carlos I were key players in the promotion of the
goals of the Spanish empire in creating a New Spain that is admired among the Spanish people.
Overall, the chaos and lack of order among the initial framework of New Spain was easily
overcome as the communal effort of the Spaniards led to the creation of their empire through
rebuilding a city from ruins after the conquests. In closing, CortГ©s was a great leader in the
conquest of Mexico and hurdled over the many obstacles facing New Spain for the good of the

Essay An Analysis of Ethical Dilemma of International...
Adoption boundaries have steadily extended since the World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War,
where many children became orphans. As a response to them winners, especially Americans, started
to adopt children from the war torn countries (Wilkinson 1995, 174). Thus, it was a start point for
international adoption. Intercountry (international or transnational) adoption is defined as adoption,
where child is removed to the adoptees country. In recent times motives to adopt internationally are
explained as charity of wealthier and more developed nations, a wish to help countries, which are
fighting with economic problems, and also insufficient numbers of babies within the country. The
rate of international adoptionincreased dramatically,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In past years a rate of international adoption increased by approximately 16% from 1998 to 2007
(Selman 2009, 576). Figure 1 shows the rate of international adoption increased dramatically from
approximately 32000 to 45000 children in 1998 2004 years; then it has started to decrease. Such
big numbers in the rate of international adoption and popularity of it raises more and more positive
and negative concerns. The whole society started to pay more attention to it, asking questions and
raising ethical dilemma of international adoption. The importance of this topic is significant, since
children should be considered as the most precious parts of every nation. Country s well being
includes not only economic stability and military force, but children s happiness as well. Especially
the future and happiness of abandoned children depends on international adoption. Accordingly,
taking into account rate of intercountry adoption and its current problems the topic is relevant
nowadays. Figure 1: Trends in intercountry adoptions to 23 receiving countries; top five receiving
countries; USA and Europe, 1998 2007
(Selman 2009, 578)
The first argument against international adoption is that it is a way to traffic children. The
procedure of international adoption includes adoption fees, which are often in average ten thousand
dollars; however

  • 2. Social Medi A Great Way For Someone With Share Information... Social Media is a great way for someone to share information with people from different cultures and backgrounds. It is also a great way to stay connected to family and friends from all over the world. Also, a great way to get to know more about someone that you may have recently met. Social media has become a very important part of everyone s life but this new activity has its advantages and disadvantages, especially in the workplace. At the UCF Community Care Center, we do have a social media page on Facebook. Our Facebook page was established for a number of reasons. UCF Community Care Center Facebook page facilitates open communication, leading to enhanced information discovery and delivery; allows employees to discuss ideas, post... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, after seeing this post, I regretted accepting this friend request and immediately unfriend this employee. Some people tend to use social media, especially Facebook as an outlet and would often rant and rave about certain things, and this is exactly what my employee did. She ranted on Facebook instead of coming to me directly. As the new Practice Manager, I had made some changes and implemented some rules that have to be followed by everyone but I was not aware that this was creating a discomfort to some employees. I felt that I should have the type of relationship with my employees where if something is bothering them then they should be able to talk to me directly. As a Practice Manager, I am not in a co worker relationship with my employees but rather in a supervisor subordinate relationship. My primary responsibility is to build and maintain a good working bond with each of my employees. It is also my responsibility to establish guidelines and avoid mixing business with pleasure. Interaction between my employees and myself should be an acceptable one. As their manager, I will clearly outline what is expected from employees. My job is to ensure that everyone remains productive throughout the day. My job is not to be everyone s friend but instead I will maintain a take charge attitude to avoid being taken advantage of by my subordinates. I will always be professional and continue to practice good customer service, avoid foul ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Henry David Thoreau s Resistance To Civil Government Have you ever thought that the government had too much power, and didn t have the right people making the laws that everyone is expected to abide by? There are many people, including myself, that feel like the leadership we have influencing us in government isn t quite up to par. Henry David Thoreau was one of those people as well. Though Thoreau had different reasons for his belief than most do today, such as the war with Mexico and slavery, his principles still stand strong in my opinion. In Resistance to Civil Government Thoreau starts off by telling us That government is best which governs least; (945). During his writing he talks about how he doesn t feel that the government proves itself to be useful to the citizens. He feels that the leaders of his states government have been elected because of majority and power, instead of their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bankston s piece, Thoreau s Case for Political Disengagement , both supports and disproves Thoreau s insight. He sees Thoreau s point of view, and agrees with is way of peaceful protest. He even compares the works of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. to Thoreau, by establishing a common ground in peacefulness and morality between them. On the other hand, however, he feels that the political quietism that Thoreau uses is not strong enough or clearly justified. He expressibly makes his point with one statement during his essay; As a member of a family and a participant in a political order, my own conscience necessarily responds to the demands of my social position (Bankston). For me, it is easy to see where Bankston stands. He agrees that people should just not sit by and watch the government run the country into the ground, but he is also not willing to make stand because it would be against the powerful majority. This concept is exactly what Thoreau was warning his readers about back then, and it still appears to be heavily debated topic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why Is Power Important In The Great Gatsby Money, success and power are determining factors in every major decision. The Great Gatsby shows how that is relevant throughout the story. The majority of the book is focused around trying to achieve the ultimate goal of success. Success shaped how characters developed and how each of them take money, power and success relevant in every decision made. Throughout my paper I will write about how money, power and success are key in this story. Topic 1: They want to become successful. Everyone wants to be successful. They strive to achieve unrealistic expectations. If everyone makes 6 figures, then the dollar bill would become deluded. Inflation would be at a high. Not everyone can be like Jay Gatsby. Topic 2: Daisy chooses Money over Love Many prefer love or money. Some prefer money over love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They could afford expensive houses and able to throw parties regularly. The people who didn t live a lavish lifestyle were still attending the parties. The parties were amazing. Topic 5: Maintaining your image Characters like Jay Gatsby and Daisy had an image to maintain. People looked at them as if they were special. They were noticed. Not everyone can be noticed though. Nick Carraway was often in the background of these prolific characters. Topic 6: Energy I can t imagine how much energy it takes to be as renowned and famous as Jay Gatsby. He is probably pestered most days. Measly matters and issues have consumed his life. This is quite sad. Especially when he is unable to change how people look at him Topic 7: Pressure While being rich and famous sounds fun, it would come with much responsibility. People would expect you to present yourself a certain way. You would also be expected to participate in certain customs and social gatherings. The expectations placed upon someone of high wealth is quite fascinating. I believe those expectations will never change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The executive team members of a football program include the head coach, offensive line coach, defensive line coach, running backs coach, wide receivers coach, secondary coach, and special teams coach. The chief executive officer, or head coach, calls the plays. The chief operations officer and chief financial officer are akin to the offensive line coach and defensive line coach respectively. A leader s style can be classified as transactional, transformational, or what is considered level 5. A transactional leader creates a very structured environment. Those leaders employing transactional leadership create clearly defined responsibilities for employees and subordinates. Transactional leadership details the rewards for success; unfortunately, transactional leadership also encompasses an element of punishment for failure. The punishment can be something as simple as a reprimand for small infractions up to termination for more serious infractions; the consequences are usually well documented as a formal policy. The transformational leadership style goes far beyond transactional leadership. A transformational leadership style is characterized by high energy, sensibility, clarity in direction, and empathy. Transformational leaders inspire subordinates to go beyond the norm and achieve goals on a greater scale than they thought possible. The transformational leader promotes a mentoring relationship rather than a monitoring relationship. Which leadership style is better? The answer would be neither, both have their place. The culture and potential problems facing a company are factors that determine which leadership style works best. While the leadership style is important, the leader is just as important. • 6. An Extreme Near-Death Experience A woman gets hit by a bus, goes into a coma, and experiences either seeing her body, or drifting along the beach. This is an extreme near death experience, and this is the type of interaction that this paper will go over. Not everybody believes in near death experiences, however thanks to movies and T.V. they are becoming more popular. To understand exactly what an extreme near death experience is, a person must first know the topic s background. A near death experience is any close brush with death. This could range from getting shot to falling down the stairs. An extreme near death experience, in this case, is when a person has an odd occurrence with something they don t have any knowledge of. For example, a man goes hiking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That there is no such thing as an out of body experience. Many will ask, What about the people who have had a near death experience, but have not had an out of body encounter? There is a simple answer. Although this may be true, those people probably did not have an extreme near death experience. For example, in a piece called My Near Death Experience, by John White (2014), he has a near death experience in his town s pond. Mr. White dove head first into the water, hit his head, and blacked out. He wrote that he, had no external perception, no sensory awareness. I was simply floating idly, feeling more peaceful than I d ever been, (White, 2014). One could say that Mr. White had a near death experience, but not an extreme one. People would also say that no one could possibly leave their body without dying first. That is more than likely false, if one were to ask the world if they believe in the supernatural, the majority would say yes. There have been many accounts of spiritual encounters, of people leaving their bodies without even having a near death experience. Another reason is, how could a person be one hundred percent sure it is not an out of body experience if it did not personally happen to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Aldo Leopold’S Essay “The Land Ethic” Was Published In Aldo Leopold s essay The Land Ethic was published in A Sand County Almanac. The short paper confronts the imperfections in the most common approaches in preserving the environment. Leopold s answer is to develop a new branch of environmental ethics to model humanity s ever changing relationship with the environment. Leopold observantly describes the history of ethics, the meaning of community with the land and why it s appropriate to do so. Toward the end of the essay as the reader is ready for Leopold to thoroughly explain his moral code he ambiguously finishes, A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise (Leopold, 224 225). The reader... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, the reader turns to Leopold to provide a concrete ethical viewpoint. But this is nearly impossible because Leopold doesn t have the answers to fix the biotic clock. Any viewpoint he relays might result in complete failure. Leopold is calling for a philosophical shift rather than a change in our actions. In the beginning of the essay, Leopold references The Ten Commandments and The Golden Rule. The pair of ethical viewpoints guides our everyday relationships in society. The Ten Commandments is a documentation of ten moral rules that are set in stone (pun intended.) The Golden Rule is a single principle of mutuality: treat others how you want to be treated. While one approach is only to be obeyed, the other depends on deep self reflection. To truly know how to treat someone, we must think about consequences and respect one another. The land ethic is not a list of rules, which should be taken for what it is, but an attitude that can change on a daily basis. Leopold seeks to reconstruct humanity s ethical knowledge to its core. He observes the way humans interact compassionately, and is determined to explain why it is important to extend this compassion to the environment. It is inconceivable to me that an ethical relation to the land can exist without love, respect, and admiration for land and a high regard for its value (Leopold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Short Story About Soccer Dzenet Heljo 917058121 Short Story Goals The grey fog comes in, there is mist in the air, the cold wind increases my alertness and the uneasiness of everyone causes silence for a brief moment until the high pitched blow of a whistle starts it all. This sounds like a setting to a suspenseful corny movie but really it s just a typical gameday here at San Francisco State University. Unlike all other game days, this one is very special. We take on UC San Diego in hopes of securing a playoff spot. My emotions have been running all over the place, and no it s not because I am a young adult trying to get through college. I have been playing soccer for 15 years already so it is safe to say that soccer is my life. All I do is constantly train to get better and improve as much as I can and today is my chance to showcase my talent at the highest level I ve played at so far. It s my second year at SFSU and my second year playing soccer here and with 20 games already recorded for me at the school, I should be coming into the game with a cool head but I am far from it. Chills run down my spine as I put on my cleats to complete my uniform. During our warm ups I try and clear my mind and enjoy the music but I can t even accomplish doing that. 30 minutes go by like it is nothing and I already hear the referee calling for the captains to do the coin toss right before the game is about to begin. • 9. Genteel People and Honest Hearts in Jane Austen s Emma... Emma: Genteel People and Honest Hearts In Emma, Jane Austen gives us only the surface of the lives of genteel people ? Though not necessarily a commonly used term today, the meaning of genteel people is easily assumed. Good birth and breeding are not necessarily the only qualities of genteel people: simple generosity, courtesy and elegance can also apply, as well as marriage into the class. The majority of the characters in Emma to some extent expand this definition to provide exceptions to the rule or abuses of the title. In this way the characters provide an interesting answer to the question of whether or not Austen actually deals with genteel people. Mrs and Miss Bates are genteel people and of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If she had been able to procure the necessary husband, there is no doubt that her gentility would have become permanent. As it was, she married for love and the intimacy between her and Emma must sink, that is, she has lost her albeit precarious hold on gentility. Jane Fairfax is, at her introduction to the reader, in ready danger of slipping from the class that she deserves through both breeding and character. Jane s orphaned status and increasing years mean that if she does not find a suitable husband in the near future, a governor s position will soon be beckoning. Fortunately for her, the engagement to Frank Churchill has secured Jane s position, as he has genteel breeding and was brought up in the Churchill household a very prestigious claim. Jane s position is almost the reverse of Mrs Weston nГ©e Taylor. The life of a governess was seemingly inescapable, save for the connection to Mr. Weston. Mr. Woodhouse s cries for poor Miss Taylor illustrate his social blindness when he cannot recognise the constant desire to further oneself. The notion of manners maketh man can also be used to judge the gentility of the persons involved. That of Mr Knightley is proven at the ball when, despite his reservations about Harriet and dancing, he chooses to rescue her from the humiliation of Mr Elton s snub illustrating his good manners and gentleman s heart. • 10. An Interview With Andrea Williams, Principal Of Elena... Using Strategic Planning This information was gathered in an interview with Andrea Williams, Principal of Theresa Bunker Elementary. In the past three years that Mrs. Williams has been principal of this school she has brought a strong focus onto using data to make appropriate instructional decisions as well as execute strategic planning to help the school progress. The implementation of the PLC process has helped the teachers to gain an understanding of how valuable data collection and analysis can be for their teaching practice. Looking at data also helps the school attain the yearly goals laid out by the district s strategic plan. One of the first steps taken in developing a strategic plan for the school is to gather and analyze data in order to find the school s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for growth as well as any threats to the progress of the school. Early in the year the strategic planning team will review quantitative data collected from student achievement scores, attendance rates, discipline trends, financial records, transportation reports, and so forth. Depending upon the specific issue addressed in the planning process, these types of quantitative data serve to inform decision making processes. The collection of qualitative data is also an integral part of best practices in development of a strategic plan. Qualitative data collection includes use of surveys, focus groups, and interviews with key stakeholder groups. It is important and useful to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Civil Rights Achievements Of The Famous African... This autobiographical analysis will define the civil rights achievements of the famous African American actor, Canada Lee. Lee s background as a jockey, boxer, and a musician would set the stage for a major acting career in theater and in Hollywood. More importantly, Lee would use his fame as an actor to promote racial equality through the support of Hollywood magnates, such as Orson Wells, and through the theatrical/literary guidance of Langston Hughes. Lee would be become known for his role in Lifeboat (1944) by Alfred Hitchcock, but he would also get other roles in throughout this historical period. These successes as an actor propelled Lee to the forefront of civil rights issues that were becoming more of a problem during the 1930s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cast wore ballroom finery and the witches magic was turned into voodoo (Mordden 236). This major breakthrough for lee was a crucial moment in his acting career, since he was catapulted into fame through the support of Welles. More so Langston Hughes began to take notice of Lee s burgeoning success, which eventually inspired Hughes to write to versions of his novels into theatrical dramas. During this time, Lee and Hughes were denied financial support for the two plays, yet Lee eventually went onto great stage success by performing in Richard Wright s theatrical drama of native Son (1941). More so, Welles was, once again, the primary support for producing Native Son, which provided a an even greater public platform for Lee s civil rights activism in the 1940s. Lee s theatrical success would not only garner him critical acclaim as an actor, but he would also use this fame to promote racial equality and justice for African Americans. During WWII, Lee would speak out against racial division in the U.S. military, which segregated black soldiers from white soldiers (Biondi 10). In this manner, Lee spoke throughout the country about the problem of segregation, which allowed him to exploit his fame for the cause of African American civil rights: He felt honor bound to use his success as a platform to fight for equal rights, for his people and for all people suffering social, political, and economic injustices (Smith ... These former homeowners became renters as the national home ownership rate dropped. Many families felt that home ownership would remain out of their reach due to previous foreclosure history. In addition, losing your home and transitioning to rentingis tough on your psyche. However, as rental rates continue to increase and the economy recovers these same families now see possibilities of home ownership again. For example, the landlord and tenant may agree that $1,500 in monthly rent is appropriate, and $200.00 per month in additional rent credits will go towards an eventual down payment for the home. In this example, the tenant will pay a total of $1,700 per month. The option fee and rent credits are almost always non refundable, and will go towards the down payment at the end of the term. There are many benefits to the Rent to Own option, including living in and taking care of the home prior to purchase. While paying each month toward the lease purchase, the buyer can continue to improve credit history and begin to build equity in the home. The Rent to Own option is a great way to get into a specific neighborhood with the opportunity to purchase the home without the penalty of a large down payment or previous bad credit history. If the buyer has recently regained employment this option allows further building of employment history. While there aredisadvantages to every option, specific, and clear communication can resolve many issues up front. The major consideration in the Rent to Own option is the loss of rent credits and the option fee toward the purchase if the tenant determines that the home is not what they wanted. In addition, if the market changes and the fixed price of the home is higher than the market demand the tenant is contractually obligated to the agreed upon price. So as a ... Cervical cancer is a type of cancer arising from the cervix. In more than 90% of the cases HPV infection is involved in the development of the disease. The current annual incidence rate for the disease is 6.6 cases per 100,000 women, and the age adjusted mortality rate is 2.4 deaths per 100,000 (for 2003 to 2007). Five year survival rates in the United States are 68%. Worldwide, it is the fourth most common cause of death from cancerin women. The risk factors associated with cervical cancerinclude smoking, HIV infection, using birth control pills for long time etc. Benefits and Harms of screening test: According to a study, screening of population for cervical cancer has reduced cervical cancer rates by 60% to 90% within 3 years of its implementation, thus reducing mortality and morbidity associated with the disease. For women belonging to the age group of 30 to 65 years, USPSTF recommends screening tests to be done by combination of cytology and pap smear once every 5 years. • 15. Nt1310 Unit 3 Activity 1 Summary Activity 1 presents the challenge of detecting vehicles in front of a stereo camera and determining the distance to them using stereo data. The team accomplished this by creating a disparity map from the two rectified images and then plotting a point cloud based on this data. A cascaded object detector is then used to get regions of interest (ROIs) where vehicles are in frame. These ROIs are then used to extract the depth of the vehicle in the point cloud. The result is a distance to the identified vehicle. A.1 Computer Vision Function Descriptions One frame from each camera is pulled into the program and then rectified based on calibration of each camera. The open morphological operator gets rid of smaller clutters of pixels as defined by the parameters that are passed in to the function. The close morphological operator fills in clusters of pixels that are the shape of the parameter passed to the function. In this case, the shape is an octagon just like a stop sign. The last step is to run the binary image through blob analysis to get the ROIs that are of a specified minimum size. • 16. 2500 Years Of War Summary Introduction ...Marketing warfare will provide a strategic model for company survival in the 21st century... The authors main aim in publishing this text was to bring to the forefront the aggressive behaviours displayed in the marketing process of a firm in order to keep their brand and company number one in a competitive industry. In addition, they wanted to show how the principles used in warfare are the same as that used in marketing. As a result, firms could look at different tactics used in war and apply it to their organization. Book Summary 2500 Years of War As a prelude to what laid ahead Al Reis and Jack Trout gave a synopsis of the many battles that took place over a 2500 year period. Such an account laid a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deadlines are often missed and a company often loses credibility in the eyes of the public. Ries and Trout believe that it is strategy that determines success not hard work. In marketing, a firm will achieve success through a smarter strategy and not by doing more paperwork and spending longer time in meetings. The nature of the battleground This section addresses the importance of where marketing battles are fought in the minds of the consumer. Like any battle, the terrain must be carefully studied and analyzed for its defensive and offensive possibilities. The enemy s position must also be carefully examined, taking note of strengths and weaknesses. In marketing warfare what you are trying to find out is who holds the higher ground. This would give you an advantage over your competitors. In a military war, hills and mountains represent strong positions and are used to present a strong defence. In comparison to a marketing warfare, management refers to strong positions as high ground. When a customer uses a brand name in place of generic, this shows who holds mountain in their mind. An example of this in the book is when consumers label all tissues as Kleenex. Mountains are segmented and competitors may launch different brands each targeting a specific segment. Today, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Buick each own different segments of the automobile market.

Analysis Of The Book The Lottery Essay When I think of the lottery, I think of a game basically where they choose one number and something or something gets chosen. * Setting can best be defined as: B. Thy physical location, time, and social environment in which a story takes place. In the first paragraph, the setting is described as a beautiful sunny day that is during the summer. Everything is in bloom and the grass is green. Basically, during this first paragraph, the author describes it as a perfect day which shows how nice it is and making the reader not realize what the townspeople are actually going to do, which is the opposite of how this day really is. This sets a peaceful and happy tone and atmosphere throughout the beginning of the story. Mood can best be defined as: A. The emotional effect or feeling that a text creates in a reader. The mood that the villagers seem to be in is a happy and normal mood because they feel that the lottery is just another normal day. They are neither sad nor angry, just content and used to the tradition of doing the lottery. They act like nothing is wrong and do not care who dies. I can tell that they are in a content mood because they don t care about doing the lottery and feel that it is an important part of their lives. • 20. Procrastination Is Natural Essay Is procrastination natural? Procrastination cannot be considered natural, because natural can be define as something that people have become use to doing in their everyday live. In his recent Ted Talk, Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator, Tim Urban, states that everybody is a procrastinator, and honestly, I disagree with his idea. Not everybody is a procrastinator. In the article, What we finally got around to learning at procrastination research conference , by Heather Murphy, she states that at least one out five people are procrastinators. (Murphy, 2017) In making this comment, Murphy (2017) argues his audience to believe that not everyone can be considered to be a procrastinator. Now considering that one out five people are procrastinators in their live, can there be any side effects to procrastination? Been a procrastinator can have side effects, for example anxiety, stress, and tension. Personally, I believe that students go more through this side effects because they are always being bombarded with due dates before the semester has even started. As reported by, Erin Ben Moche from the Chicago Tribune newspaper, Teens report that their stress level during the school year far exceeds what they believe to be healthy (5.8 versus 3.9 on a 10 point scale) and tops adults average reported stress levels (5.8 for teens versus 5.1 for adults) (Erin Ben Moche, 2017, par.3) In other words, Erin believes that teen students stress more than adults because of school. As a student, I personally haven t dealt with this kind of high stress, but in the other hand, I met teenagers who have dealt with this kind of stress during mid terms In the Ted Talk by Tim Urban, he touches the topic of anxiety and stress. He goes on by saying that guilt, dread, anxiety, and self hatred can be a dark playground when people are doing last minute paperwork or assignments. (Urban, 2016) Like I stated in the beginning of my essay, procrastination is not something that everyone does, procrastination is more like a decision someone decides to take when they are been lazy. In those days, men held all the positions of power and made all the decisions about money. They believed that a woman s place was in the home, looking after her children, cooking for her family and managing the house. If a woman needed to work she could perhaps find a job in a shop or in a factory, but she had no chance of working as a businesswoman or a banker or a lawyer. Women s fashions in the US and Europe at that time supported this idea of their position in society. Fashionable women wore long dresses that almost touched the ground. He goes on to note that in 1964, when surveys first started to be used, almost 50% of the electorate had strong party identification towards a particular political party, but by 2001 this had reduced to only 13% of the electorate. He concluded by saying that although party identification had clearly declined over the years, the majority of voters still have some form of partisan attachments, although clearly a lot weaker than it once was. They were quoted having said that they did were of the belief that they could actually pollute the Ecuadorean environment at a hundred times higher than those allowable in the United States (Justicia Para Ecuador). Wal Mart s Mission Statement Wal Mart s mission Statement: We save people money so they can live better Proposed New mission Statement: We save people money by delivering value and quality, continuous innovation and exceptional guest experiences both in store and on line so they can live better. Wal Mart s position from the competitive forces model competition among rivals is fairly weak. The market is crowded but Wal Mart has the lowest costs, prices, profits, and market share. Wal Mart exerts a great deal of effort in making sure they are innovative and meeting customer requests. The bargaining power of suppliers is weak as well. For most producers, Wal Mart would be their largest account. The bargaining power of buyers is also weak. There is a very broad base of customers and a meaningful demand for low prices. The threat of new entrants is weak. Wal Mart has a scale of operation that is very important, it would take years, maybe even decades, for a new company to be on the same level. Even prominent companies today would have really difficult time matching the costs and prices Wal Mart provides. Walmart s competitive advantages from a value chain perspective. First of all it is a distribution capability: well organized distribution, leadership of Walmart s own distribution centers and inside out location strategy. Second, is partnership relationship with merchants: integrates suppliers via IT treats them well in terms of pricing, they are more business partners than value takers . Third, is ... He was currently studying at University of Chicago in his 3rd year. He was studying Zoology and was hoping for a PHD. As a scientist, Watson questioned the essence of life and mostly how the information of life was copied. Therefore he wanted to be a geneticist. He observed Linus pauling and his work and applied to caltech but was unfortunately declined. Therefore in Indiana he went after DNA and its meaning and form. Over this process he worked with many people and came to many discoveries that help them in their journeys. A helix The discovery of the Alpha helix came up when, James Watson was one day alerted that Linus Pauling had partially solved the structure of proteins. Following up on this James found out that, in on of Pauling s talks he revealed the alpha helix model. This was a large event in the race for DNA because Linus was the first person to propose something solidly correct about DNA structure. This new event however, did not provide a lot of progress for James s work because of at the time how he could not tell if this suggestion was correct or not. Later on this information did help them because they took on the helical shape with the addition of x ray evidence. • 39. My First Lesson On The Battle Of Lexington And Concord This week I only attended three days for block teaching. Monday was Columbus Day so the school was closed and everyone had the day off. Friday I did not attend because it was fall break for WIU so I decided to go home for the weekend. On Tuesday the students worked on Cornell notes for several headings in their textbook. Then on Wednesday I taught my first lessonon the battles of Lexington and Concord. The students analyzed two primary source documents then as a class we discussed their similarities and differences. The lesson went well despite the fact that two thirds of the class was missing due to state testing. The fact that majority of the class made me worried for the lesson I prepared for the following day because the two lessons were designed to match up. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Thursday s lesson went as smoothly as it did. The students stayed on task and were focused so I did not have really any issues with classroom management. Since this week was short and I taught two out of the three days I was present my teacher didn t have much involvement with his class. On Thursday when one student was getting a big rowdy before class due to an argument my mentor pulled him into the hallway to address the situation. I believe my best classroom management skills were displayed during my Wednesday lesson. Due to majority of the class being missing I got the vibe that the students who were present thought of it as a free day. I had one student who decided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Industries of Specialization and Opportunity As most already know, the Swiss are renowned for their production of high quality chocolates including those of the Toblerone and Lindt brands. Switzerland has a comparative advantage in the production of chocolate. By spending one hour producing two pounds of chocolate, it gives up producing one pound of cheese, whereas, if it spends that hour producing cheese, it gives up two pounds of chocolate. Thus, the good in which comparative advantage is held is the good that the country produces most efficiently (chocolate). Therefore, if given a choice between producing two goods (or services), a country will make the most efficient use of its resources by producing the good with the lowest opportunity cost, the good in which it holds the comparative advantage, and by trading for the other good. In the cretaceous period, the continent of Pangea was still breaking away from itself, forming what we now know as the seven world continents. In the many eras of dinosaurs, the cretaceous era was responsible for evolving some, but not all the dinosaurs from full land dinosaurs to some who were able to live both on land and in water, semi aquatic carnivorous dinosaurs. This era had produced some of the dinosaurs that maybe us non paleontologist are more familiar with like the all mighty tyrannosaurus rex or the long neck. Upon viewing the film you are left believing that carter is a wonderful human being incapable of the murders. However the story of the real Rubin Carter has much to be desired. Many facts of the events remain the same, rarely are events changed completely , but much is left out or altered. This is achieved in the film by silencing significant people. The primary example of this is John Artis. John Artis was Rubin s alleged accomplice at the night of the shootings.
