What Sin?

The word “sin” translate the Hebrew word “Chatah” which is translated to sin by
missing the goal or by missing the mark. In modern Hebrew script “Chatah” is
spelt “Chet Tet Aleph” as describe in the pictography below.

and stands for the strong leader
or the head of the family and
also represents God.
Tet is the picture of the snake and
means to surround, to ensnare, or

In the bible the word sin is often used in exchange with other words such as
iniquity and transgression. Although all three words communicate the same
idea each word carries a slightly different meaning according to Psalm 32:5.
 Sin means missing the mark. It can refer to doing something against God
or against a person (Exodus 10:16), doing the opposite of what is right
(Galatians 5:17), doing something that will have negative results
(Proverbs 24:33–34), and failing to do something you know is right
(James 4:17).

Transgression refers to presumptuous sin. To transgress is to choose to
intentionally disobey; transgression is willful trespassing. For example in Judges
14:8-9, Samson intentionally broke his Nazirite vow by touching the carcass of a
dead lion.
So When we knowingly run a stop sign, tell a lie, or blatantly disregard an
authority, we are transgressing.

Iniquity refers to a premeditated sin. To commit iniquity is to continue
without repentance. For example Micah 2:1 “Woe to them that devise
iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they
practice it, because it is in the power of their hand”

Leaven is a substance, like yeast,
that when put into bread dough,
spreads throughout the dough and
makes it rise.This enables bread to
be puffy and soft. In some scriptures,
sin is compared with leaven.

In both Mathew and Luke's gospels Jesus told of a parable about a shepherd
who had one hundred sheep. When one of the sheep got lost, the shepherd
searched and searched until he found it.

Sin Compares to a Burden
Psa 38:4 For mine iniquities are gone over
mine head: as an heavy burden they are too
heavy for me.
 Also Jesus says “Come unto me, all ye that
labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you
rest. ” (Matt 11:28).
So sin is a burden to be borne.

In Jer 2:22, sin is emphasized as
“the stain of your guilt,” but also in
Isaiah 1:18 “though your sins be
