can Live in harmony with a Perfect God).

Far and away the most common term
for the character of sin is the Hebrew
word, Chata’ and Greek Harmartano. It
means essentially “to miss the mark”.
Harmartano is a sin againstGod as it is
his standards we fail to meet. Our
failure to attain the target of reflecting
the divine image could be seen as key
part of our sin.

5. Ignorance
A common NewTestament
term as a cause of sin is
Agnoia, related to our
English term, agnostic.
Sometimes ignorance can be
innocent
(Rom 1:13; 2 Cor 6:9), at
other times it represented as
culpable (Eph 4:18). Here
people could of know the
right path to follow, but have
chosen not to.

6. Abomination
The term abomination (Heb = shiqquts
and to ‘ebah) is usually used for those acts
which are described as being particular
reprehensible to God (e.g. Idolatry, Deut
7:25 – 26; Sacrificing sons and daughter,
Deut 12:31; Homosexual practice, Lev
18:22;Witchcraft, Deut 18:9 – 12).

7. Agitation Or Restlessness
• Sin is often seen to lead to a lack of peace. e.g. “There is
no Peace, says my God, for the wicked’ (Isa 57:21). Not
only do the wicked have no Peace, but they cause
agitation for others as well.
