Overview: Metal Stamping
What is metal stamping?
The process consists of placing a cold
sheet of metal into a press to form a
shape. A stationary and moving
mechanism are required to form a
finished part. Both blank and coil
material can be processed using a
stamping press and die.

What Is the Progressive
Process?
Progressive Metal Stamping
Process
The progressive approach is an automated
stamping technique in which a sheet is fed
through the press with a top die across
several stations. After the piece has been
cut, it is transferred between stations until
the part is complete. The top die follows the
piece throughout the process and closes
when the press moves downward to
complete an operation.

Why even use it?
Stamping method is cost-effective and
well-suited for high production runs.
Possible Applications
Frames, sub-frames,
structural components.
Operation Modes Supported
Operation Modes Supported
Trim-Removing excess material from a part.
Pierce-Creates hole in a part.
Form-This operation shapes the part.
Draw-Stretches and bends part in a particular direction to create
grooves or deep impressions.
Mark ID and date-Embeds key part identification information into
the part for tracking.
Restrike-Additional strike performed to same location of initial
hole or dimension to ensure accurate positioning.

How Are Parts Created with This
Process?
How Are Parts Formed?
The progressive process relies on operations,
cams, dies and stations to manufacture parts
efficiently. Changes performed on parts are staged
to better distribute workload.
Cams enable proper positioning of parts at various
angles to complete operations like trimming.
Stations for each operation are set up to complete
serial changes to parts.
Operations are matched to stations based on
specifications.
A top die plays critical role in completing each
operation as the sheet is fed through press.
