Islam began in 610 CE when the prophet Muhammad began receiving revelations from God in Mecca. It is one of the fastest growing religions and teaches that there is only one God, Allah. The primary religious text is the Quran, which was revealed to Muhammad and is memorized by many Muslims. Islam originated on the Arabian Peninsula where Mecca was an important trade and religious site containing the Kaaba shrine.
