Indians Impact On The American Revolution
Indian Removal
Looking throughout the overwhelming events the American Revolution had on everyone involved,
allows us to examine how the governments policies toward the Indians changed over time. It shows
how the policy changes effected the Indians as well as the Americans , their attitudes toward each
other as the American s pushed westward and the Indians resisted. Then the actions on both sides
which lead up to the final removal of all Indians to west of the Mississippi in 1830 s.
The government as well as the Americans attitudes toward the Indians at the beginning of the
Revolution was pretty much the same as Thomas Jefferson s, which was that given time the Indians
could possibly change their ways and conform to white society s way of life. The Indian removal had
a profound impact on both the Indians as well as the white settlers. Each one felt they were justified in
their actions because each was doing what was best for their families and their way of life. The
Indians felt they were between a rock and a hard place. Whom to side with? On one hand, were the
British who seemed to want to protect the Indian territories, on the other were the Patriots who were
aggressively taking more and more land. Most stayed neutral waiting to see the outcome, some chose
the British. Chief Dragging Canoe of the Cherokee tribe attacked white settlement in Virginia and
western Carolinas around the summer of 1776. In the eyes of white society all Indians are the same,

Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy
The Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy
Officially Accepted Story
During the 1960 s and 70 s, America and the USSR were in the midst of the Cold War Era, a period of
time where instead of fighting each other they competed against each other in order to be the first
nation to win the space race and that meant landing a human on the moon and have them return safely
before the other country.
In 1961 Russia was ahead of America in the space race after managing to launch Yuri Gagarin into
space, have him orbit the earth and return him safely , 23 days before American astronaut Alan B
Shepard was able too. In response to trailing behind Russia, President John F. Kennedy gave a speech
at Rice University Stadium in which he challenged America to find a way to put a man on the moon
and return him safely before the end of the decade.
After launching from the Kennedy space centre on July 20th 1969 the crew of Apollo 11 orbited the
earth one and a half times before being given permission to go to the moon, three days later the crew
are in orbit around the moon. Six hours after the lunar module lands on the moons surface, Neil
Armstrong becomes the first man to walk on the moon.
The two astronauts spend two and a half hours on the moon s surface collecting rocks and conducting
experiments before behind a plaque which honoured the astronauts that had died in the pursuit of
getting to space, American and Russian, an America flag and a plaque with a message that read Here

President Richard Nixon s Political Scandal
The Richard Nixon Assignment
United States President Richard Nixon was involved in a major political scandal during the 1970s that
resulted from a break in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. The scandal was known
as the Watergate scandal. The scandal was called Watergate because it occurred at the Watergate office
complex in Washington, D.C. Nixon and his administration attempted to cover up the scandal, but the
scandal was discovered and investigated by Congress. The scandal comprised of illegal activities such
as bugging of offices, ordering investigations of activist groups and political figures with the use of
the FBI, CIA, and IRS. There were several abuses of power during the scandal and the results of the
scandal and investigation were indictment of sixty nine individuals and Richard Nixon resigning his
office as President of the United States.

different vocal pitch. After listening to nearly all of the tapes and reading the transcripts, if I were an
investigator, I would have to say yes there was a clear difference in Nixon s vocal patterns in nearly all
of the tapes that I listened to. During normal conversations that didn t deal with business, his tone
seemed very relaxed, but when questions of the scandal or blackmail came up his voice got louder and
his tone was in my opinion that of an angry, defensive, or frustrated individual. His tone jumped from
relaxed and calm to higher pitches and defensive throughout all of the

Air India Failure
Strategy
Air India failed to collaborate with other Global major airline players while on the other hand major
airlines were collaborating with foreign players to expand increase their reach. Air India being a state
owned airlines lacked time punctuality. Its flights were poorly scheduled and also the routes on which
the airline operated was not profitable.
Skill
Air India was unable to match the performance of other airlines and faced severe criticism for its
inefficiency and excessive expenditure human resources. The industry owned the planes which
increased its operating cost while on the other hand airlines such as Indigo followed lease and payback
model and were in profits.

the downfall of Air India has been characterized to following major reasons:
Unhappy merger of Indian Airlines and Air India
Government of India went through with this merger with the hopes of a successful airline. But till date
it has come out to be a failure. When any two organizations merge, they should have a harmony and

Human resources department remains a non standard department, leading to inequality in pay scales,
allowances and career progression. This has lead to unrest and dissatisfaction among employees.
There are two unions representing the pilots from both the erstwhile companies and these unions have
been at loggerheads for a long time. As the pilots from Air India flew international flights and pilots
from Indian Airlines flew domestic flights, the compensation given to these pilots varied a lot which
gave rise to this unrest.

Casino Industry in Macau
The Casino Industry in Macau
Research Question
I intend to evaluate the Casino Industry in Macau including the reasons for its high demand and
growing success and compare it to the Casino Industry in Las Vegas.
The gaming industry is the livelihood of Macau. It is responsible for 75% of the government s income
and provides the people of Macau with millions of jobs. Even though gambling was first legalized
under Portuguese rule to finance the government, it remains the same under Chinese rule today. The
rules and regulations set forth oversee the casino industry and grant companies with casino
concessions. It is dramatically more profitable than Las Vegas because of the devastating effects of the
American Recession.

This only attracted more tourists to the country and encouraged locals to gamble more. The
construction and operation of new casinos also dramatically increased employment rates.
Who Regulates the Casino Industry in Macau? After the casino monopoly ended in 2001, the
government formed rules and regulations that would administer the gaming industry. The dissolution
of the monopoly meant that companies besides STDM were now allowed to build and operate casinos
in Macau. Theses rules and regulations were to ensure that the new casinos were operating properly
and fairly (Loughlin and Pannell).
Soon after the monopoly ended, the Legislative Assembly passed a law (No. 16) that clearly outlined
the definition gambling and casino . The law stated what would be acceptable and what would not be
acceptable in terms of gambling in Macau. It also explained the guidelines for the concession system
and the procedure for bidding. In order to enforce these rules and regulations, the Legislative
Assembly established the Casino Commissions Committee. This committee consists of eight members
and is overseen by the Secretary of Economics and Finance. At the time of its establishment, this man
was Francis Tam Pak Yuen.
The bidding process began in November of 2001. The Casinos Commissions Committee started to
give prospective investors information about building a

History Of An Atom. In This Day And Age, Almost Every...
History of an Atom
In this day and age, almost every educated middle school student would be able to sketch and label a
given diagram of an atom. However, still to this day, not one human has seen what an atom looks like.
Our current atomic model, the same one in which you most likely learnt in 5th grade, is really just an
educated theory, comprised of years of experimental trials and errors. In fact, the original four
elements, introduced by ancient philosopher Aristotle: Fire Air, Water, and Earth, were once believed
the only elements forming natural matter. Although frowned upon by the ancient Greek society,
philosophers Leucippus and Democritus developed their own theoretical understanding of nature.
Their theory concluded that every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His diagram quickly gained the label plum pudding, as the electrons similarly resembled the plum
slices inside of a pudding.
1909: Ernest Rutherford
The atomic model evolved to a familiar diagram following the results of Rutherford s popular gold
foil experiment. Essentially, a student of Rutherford s class had been examining the possible pattern of
positively charged particles contacting the element of gold. While filming the student s examination,
Rutherford noticed that most of the particles flew straight through, and only a tiny portion either
bounced straight back or off of an angle. If Thomson s model was correct, all of the radium particles
should have bounced off of the foil however, they did not. This led Rutherford to believe that the
positive charge of an atom is not equal to the whole of an atom, but rather an even smaller core,
located in the middle of the atom, surrounded by the negatively charged electrons. He concluded that
the atom is mostly empty space, and that most of the atoms mass came from the small central core
which he declared the nucleus.
1913: Niels Bohr
Niels Bohr, a former student of Rutherford, proposed his own theory: the quantum theory. Furthering
Rutherford s model, Bohr insisted that electrons spin around the nucleus in fixed orbits , such as
planets around the sun. The outer inner orbit/s have only a certain amount of constant energy,

The Influence Of Trash On The Beaches In The United States
A significant amount of my childhood was spent on the beaches in my mom s hometown of
Ketchikan, Alaska. A small tourist town, few people can identify it on a map and even fewer recognize
the damage being inflicted on its environment. As I have become older, the issue of trash on these
beaches has become more apparent and I have become more involved with this issue. For me, being a
global citizen means protecting the planet and the people who reside in it, and this can be tackled by
altering the way we treat waste. In the United States we live in a disposable society. We throw out
plastic products after one use and dispose of gently used clothing and electronics. These products can
take hundreds of years to decompose in a landfill or can affect

Essay about Two Suits, Two Dresses, or One of Each
How can denying two people of the same sex the right to have a marriage be considered
constitutional? Why is our country taking away rights of people because they want to be with
someone of the same gender? Gay and lesbian couples have been denied their right to marry for some
time now. Same sex couples should be allowed to express and celebrate their commitment to a partner
the same way a heterosexual couple does, as well as obtain the same benefits. Our country is not a

This means the government cannot enact laws that prevent marriage between individuals of a certain
sexual orientation. If marriage is considered a civil liberty, then the 14th amendment should stop the
government from making laws that prohibit civil liberties based on a person s choice in a partner. . . .
Section 3 of DOMA violates the equal protection clause because it treats gay man and lesbians
differently on the basis of their sexual orientation (Hanna 30). If we continue to strike down laws like
DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), which denied same sex couples the right to marry, we can fight
this controversy and help innocent people obtain a right that they were born with.
Some people may argue that marriage has always been defined as between one man and one woman
or that allowing gay marriage will weaken the institution of marriage. Extending to gays and lesbians
the right to marry would undermine traditional marriage, and therefore, governments have a valid
reason to maintain the traditional definition of it (Hanna 29). It is inaccurate to define marriage as
between one man and one woman because our world history is full of polygamy, concubines,
mistresses, and prostitution. Kings in the past had many women and this was considered normal, one
could say that the traditional marriage is the one that is not normal. We redefine things as the general
attitudes about them

Prenatal Testing Research Paper
Prenatal Testing and the Disability Community The dream of every expectant mother is to give birth
to a healthy baby when the nine months elapse. However, the culture of uncertainty among eager
mothers has engulfed their thoughts of the possibility of giving birth to children with disabilities. As a
result, they have turned to clinics for prenatal screening with a hope of getting a clean bill of health
from medical practitioners about their current situation. All these efforts are not in vain in their minds
as long as they are assured their babies will not have Down s syndrome or any other birth defect.
These frantic efforts pertain image of a society that dread disability. With the bold writings on the

Synder and Gauthier (2008), ethics can be defined as a moral principle that dictates human behavior
and classifying it as either good or bad based on the end result and the motive behind the cause of
action. There is a more compelling need to find out what motivated the emergence of prenatal
screening. Also, to find out how it has achieved its objectives. To begin with, there is a need to

The Historical Role Reversal Between The Democratic And...
The historical role reversal between the Democratic and Republican parties is a much
debated topic. There are questions on whether it actually did occur, if so, around what time
period, and for what reasons. There, in fact, was a role reversal and it occurred sometime
between the years 1928 and 1932. Reasons that may have sparked the switch could be
disagreement among party members, major issue disputes such as economy, rights, or even
money, all of which are evident in today s society. Based on the research stated throughout, the
most realistic reason that this phenomenon occurred was because of the failing economy and
extremely poor leadership in the white house.
The economy in the 1930 s was in a depression, which was the worst depression that the
United States has ever experienced. The stock market crashed, inflation was at an all time high,
gas prices rose, unemployment was at nearly 25 percent, and the U.S. Dollar was worth nearly
nothing. All of this followed by president Herbert Hoover who prolonged the suffering of the
United States economy. The people in the extremely poor cities that could no longer afford to
live in house or apartments became homeless and consequently built hoovervilles. Hoovervilles
were large congregations of homeless people. After Hoover s term as president, President
Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected and brought the economy back from the dead so to say. FDR
proposed his new deal, which consisted of several

Black History Importance The time has come again to celebrate the achievements of all black men and
women who have chipped in to form the Black society. There are television programs about the
African Queens and Kings who never set sail for America, but are acknowledged as the pillars of our
identity. In addition, our black school children finally get to hear about the history of their ancestors
instead of hearing about Columbus and the founding of America. The great founding of America
briefly includes the slavery period and the Antebellum south, but readily excludes both black men and
women, such as George Washington Carver, Langston Hughes, and Mary Bethune. These men and

Black Americans should be acknowledged for not only their contributions to American society, but
also for being a part of American society and upholding the traditions and values of this country.
Black History Month should not be a celebration that comes and goes in our own minds and homes.
Black History Month should not be a remembrance that is acknowledged only when the official day
begins. Black History Month is an accomplishment that we should be proud of in the Black
community. Carter G. Woodson chose the month of February for some important reasons. For
instance, Black History Month marks the birthdays of two men who influenced the black population,
Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln according to Woodson. In addition, the Fifteenth
Amendment was passed on February 3, 1870, which granted blacks the right to vote. There were a lot
of significant reasons for allowing Black History Week to begin in February. However, I seriously
doubt if Woodson would have accepted the extension of this week in the shortest month of the year.
Woodson chose a week in February, because it had symbolic significance. Black History Week began
in 1926. However, it is now 1999 and in seventy three years Black Americans allowed our
contributions to American society to be extended from Negro History Week to Black History

Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di has recently died on the 10th of September 210BC, but how? There must

Cultural Anthropology Research Paper
Throughout the world many people find it very difficult to communicate with people that do not share
the same ideals as them. This lack of communication is a major barrier in advancement of our world.
Anthropology, in short, is the study of humans living and dead Anthropology is divided into five main
categories: applied, linguistic, medical, biological, archaeological, and cultural. Each of these five
divisions teaches a different aspect of human life.
Cultural anthropology teaches acceptance. There are social norms that can be found in every culture,
the difference from culture to culture is socialization how people react appropriately to one in another.
These differences can be in food, clothing, or religion. Each difference has meaning to why it is done
that certain way, either because of climate, history, resources or any other aspect that causes people to
live the way they do. If cultural differences are studied further, comparisons can be made to one s own
way of life and both cultures begin to look very similar. Once a person has been made aware of the
differences and the reasons why they occur, it becomes easier to become more understand to a group
of people s needs or wants.
This universal of understanding tends to come in handy during a job or even in everyday social
interaction. People tend to want to work harder when they are treated as equals and not when they are
being told what to do. Anthropology research teaches how to be respectful when interacting with

Richard Cory Analysis Essay
In Edwin Robinson s Richard Cory, one major theme is envy. I struggle as a person with envying
others and also with greed, so this poem related to me on that level, however, I have also experienced
the opposite, where people envy me without knowing my burdens. The poet tells a story, or tells more,
a parable, that uses irony and a bluntness that makes it so the reader can interpret it and relate it to
their own lives easily. What I think is the foremost of the ways Robinson relates to the reader, is
through playing on common emotions. In this specific poem, it is envy and those who possess the
envy are the villagers. It can be somewhat inferred from the first two stanzas, but in the third stanza it
nearly directly states their feelings by saying in lines 11 and 12, In fine, we thought that he was
everything / To make us wish that we were in his place. These villagers envy Richard Cory, who they
laud like a king even though he is no greater than them, only in wealth. Everyone has envied another

The entire poem displays an ironic theme, but it first becomes apparent in the second stanza. The first
stanza Cory is described as a gentleman from sole to crown, / Clean favored and imperially slim, (line
3 and 4). Robinson uses words with a royal connotation to display just how much he is separate from
these villagers. But then in the fifth and sixth lines, he says, And he was always quietly arrayed, / And
he was always human when he talked, which slightly contradicts what was said about him in the prior
verse. Not only is that an example, but then also how Robinson ends the poem adds on to the irony of
it. The last stanza, filled with irony on its own, completes the poem by sharing that Cory kills himself.
The villagers wanted to be in this rich man s position, but did not realize that he also had struggles
even though he had money, that did not make his life

Suc Communal Narcissism Theory
In comparison, narcissists to other narcissists to some degree they all share similarities regardless of
which category they apply. When deciding the abilities individually that we have compared to others,
concepts of social comparison theories are made (Aronson, et al., 2016). For instance, communal
narcissist experiences the qualities of those that are known as narcissists. Regardless, of having a
distinct name for narcissist the theory remains that their thoughts and actions are based on the same
level of understandings. However, differences can be noted through a larger view of oneself given
examples such as their levels of assertiveness, competence, and authority, yet their thoughts remain as
selfishness. Communal narcissism thoughts remain on the level that continues to see themselves with
realizations of that life is all about self or the concept of I, also known as an addiction to oneself.

The Trojan War
In the beginning of the semester, I believed that I knew most of the history of the Trojan War. I knew
that members of the Greek army hid inside of a wooden horse an attacked the Trojans inside of their
walls. Before taking this class, I thought the movie Troy was an accurate account of the war. I also had
no idea that the Gods had a large role in the Iliad. I was shocked to learn that the majority of the
history of the Trojan War involves the Gods. In my opinion, it seems very unbelievable. According to
homer, people believed in Zeus, Hades, Apollo, Poseidon, and the other Gods. Something I don t
understand is how people actually believe homers account of the Trojan War. The Iliad had so many
parts where the Gods were directly involved the war between the Trojans and the Greeks. Almost none
of Homers accounts of the Gods were mentioned in the movie because the history the Trojan War
wound sound less believable. The Iliad and the movie Troy have similar content. When I read the Iliad
and watched the movie, the movie sounds more believable then the Iliad. Toward the beginning of the
Iliad a conversation between Achilles, Tetis and Zeus was not mentioned the movie. Probably because

Teotihuacan Artistic Influence
Teotihuacan: Sphere of Artistic Influence
In the Basin of Mexico about 7,000 ft above sea level lies the ruins of the ancient city of Teotihuacan,
the place of the gods, which flourished from 100 650 A.D. Little is known about this city s mysterious
demise of power, besides evidence of what appears to be ritualized burnings at major temples and
centers. The impact of Teotihuacan throughout Mesoamerica is evident, and the most obvious
indicator of this influence is through artistic style. Just how far was the expansion of Teotihuacan s
artistic influence across Mesoamerica? I will use a variety of sources not only to define the
Teotihuacano art style as a whole, but also to map the path of its successful impact, (and also
resistance,) across subsequent Mesoamerican civilizations, focusing principally on the Maya. The
architectural style known as talud tablero marks the presence of Teotihuacan abroad more distinctly
than any other aspects of its art. The sloping talud (talus) supports the vertical tablero (entablature),

By 450 AD, versatile mold made ceramics were beginning to be mass produced, stamped and
distributed out of Teotihuacan workshops, believed to be located north of the Citadel. These host
figures have been found as far as Guatemala (900 miles away).
Brightly polychromed urns and incense burners sporting human and animal faces are among the larger
ceramics that survive from this era. The Teotihuacanos may have been able to take these
anthromorphic assemblages apart and reconfigure them into different deities from the constituent
parts. (Miller, Mary Ellen 2012) One large urn from Teotihuacan displays the image of an owl deity
that served the city s war cult. Owl depictions have been tied to war iconography all across

Health Information Exchange And The Health Care Field
Health information exchange has become a very important part of today s health care field. It is used
every day, in almost every part of the medical field. Electronic medical records, digital imaging, e
mails, and fax are all used daily. Health information exchange has moved forward the health care field
and helped medical professionals give their patients faster, more efficient and safer care day to day. In
this paper, you will read about the history of the health information exchange, the benefits, the privacy
and security concerns, and the current challenges faced by the workers in the health information field.

While many people believe that health information exchange is a relatively new thing, it has been
around for over four decades. However, in the beginning phases it was nowhere near as complex as it
is now. Sometime in the middle of the 60 s, an early form of a data processing system was formed and
it focuses on clinical data management. This system began to catch on even though they were nowhere
near as sophisticated and or functional as the health records in today s time. In 1972, at the Regenstrief
Institute the first medical record system was created as a modular system to provide service functions
for clinics, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy ( Structure, Functions, and Activities of a Research
Support Informatics Section, 2003). This was a pilot project in a diabetes clinic and not something
they thought would change the face of health information forever. However, when it was first made it
was not attractive to many doctors due to the high cost but was used mostly by government hospitals
since they had the funds to use them. To this day, the most comprehensive medical records system
could be found in the Regenstrief Medical Records System based in Indianapolis. This records system
is mostly in thanks to Clement McDonald, who is the director of the Regenstrief Institute. In 1991, the
Institute of Medicine stated that by the year 2000, it would be smart for

Tmj Dentist Surgery Essay
About five to 12 percent of Americans have a painful condition called TMJ. Known medically as
temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders, TMJ refers to a set of uncomfortable disorders
affecting the jaw joint, as well as those muscles controlling jaw movements.
Although some TMJ issues are the result of injuries, most people suffer from this condition without
knowledge of a clear reason. In most cases, TMJ isn t a sign of severe medical problem. Fortunately,
the pain doesn t last long and subsides with minimal or even no treatment. In fact, most patients don t
need surgery, even if their discomfort persists. If you think you may have this problem, here are some
common symptoms and how a TMJ dentist can help you find relief.

These self care methods include applying ice packs, eating soft foods and other treatments.
Pain management is another important part of treating TMJ problems. Both over the counter
painkillers and prescription drugs, used only for a short time period, can help with discomfort.
Dentists can demonstrate relaxation techniques for controlling stress, which can cause TMJ pain.
What s more, they can show you how to practice biofeedback techniques to help you relax.
Sometimes TMJ pain is due to teeth that aren t aligned properly. When this is the case, dentists can
correct the problem by fixing poorly aligned teeth.
In other situations, TMJ is due to teeth grinding. This can be addressed by a using a mouth guard.
Considerations and Warnings
A TMJ dentist will stay away from any dental treatments that could permanently alter your jaw or bite,
such as bridgework or crown treatments.

Milk and Viable Salmonella Essay example
Salmonella
Salmonella is a prokaryotic, rod shaped, bacterial organism. It is nonsporeforming and Gram negative.
(1) Salmonella is responsible for almost 60 percent of reported cases of bacterial food borne illness
and 40 percent of all food borne illness of any kind. Salmonella survives digestion and reproduces in
the small intestine, making people sick. Salmonella has hundreds of different types, all of which cause
much the same illness in humans. Eating food containing live salmonella bacteria causes
salmonellosis. (2)
Anyone can get Salmonella, but it is most common in children under 5 (and in the elderly). Millions
of cases occur each year in the United States, and at least half of them are in children. Salmonella is

Salmonella can cause enteric fever (typhoid fever). Some children have a salmon colored rash (rose
spots). When Salmonella bacteria get into the bloodstream, they can travel and cause infection
throughout the body. Children with sickle cell disease, HIV, and certain other causes of anemia are
among those at risk for complications from Salmonella. Salmonella can be spread from person to
person by the fecal oral route. Salmonella symptoms usually begin about 24 hours after exposure
(from 6 to 72 hours). Enteric fever can occur up to 60 days after exposure. The symptoms usually go
away within a week in otherwise healthy children. (2) It is estimated that from 2 to 4 million cases of
salmonellosis occur in the U.S. annually. (4)
Many different kinds of illnesses can cause diarrhea, fever or abdominal cramps.
Determining that Salmonella is the cause of the illness depends on laboratory tests which identify
Salmonella in the stool of an infected person. (1) Other tests, such as blood tests or spinal fluid tests
may be performed if there is reason to suspect that Salmonella is there. Salmonella may be suspected
based on the history and physical exam. (2) Salmonella bacteria is discovered in stool cultures.
Although blood cultures are rarely positive, bacteremia does occur in 5% of adults with Salmonella
gastroenteritis and can result in hematogenous spread to the heart (endocarditis), spleen, bone
(osteomyelitis), and joints (reactive arthritis). (3) Salmonella

The Illusion that Money Brings Happiness
Some would say we are slaves to our primal urges, shackled in our endless pursuit of gratification and
shaping our very existence around them. We gravitate towards the things in life that bring us pleasure,
and recoil from those that cause us pain. People always show a feeling of wanting everything their
way, as to wanting something. Just like everything else there are always limits. In order to obtain these
things that people believe will bring them happiness, many go over the line. Many believe that with
money they can have anything they desire. Though it may be true to an extent, sometimes the desires
eventually turn into greed and people lose some of the most valuable things life has to offer.
Focusing on the illusion that money brings happiness may have an unexpected turn later down the
road. For instance, when someone reflects on how money would change their sense of well being, they
would probably think about spending more time in leisurely pursuits such as traveling abroad. But in
reality, they would have to spend a large amount of time working and less time engaged in
experienced happiness. Robert H. Frank says in his book Luxury Fever: Money and Happiness in an
Era of Excess:
Even among those who can easily afford today s luxury offerings, there has been a price to pay. All of
us rich and poor alike, but especially the rich are spending more time at the office and taking shorter
vacations; we are spending less time with our families and friends; and we have

Hockey is a fast paced sport with little time to react or prepare for a hit correctly. The knowledge of
knowing how to take a hit is just as important on how to distribute a hit. Both can cause significant
harm to both players if not done right. The biggest rule to follow when you are about to get hit is to
have a low base. This means to have your knees bent at about ninety or so degrees and to put most of
your weight on the ball of your foot. This way your center of gravity is lower and you have more
balance. This also protects more of your limbs from getting hit. As opposed to standing up with makes
you unbalanced and prone to worse injuries. Another crucial part of the game is how you give a hit.
Many clinics have been set up to show how to properly hit, but boys tend to ignore the rules and just

be practiced on at least once every week or two weeks. But even the knowledge of how to hit and how

to allow flexibility and decrease injuries (Mick). More players should take advantage of doing a full,

once the good is provided, additional resource cost of another person consuming the good is zero and
to prevent anyone from consuming it is either very expensive or impossible. Consequently, recorded
music exhibits the economic properties of information. One of the fundamental economic properties
of digital information deals with its cost structure characterized by low reproduction costs. Another
noteworthy attribute that can be associated with music is its nature as an experience good. According
to the definition by Shapiro and Varian, (1988), music can be classified as an experience good since it
needs to be experienced to know what it is. According to other definitions by Hampe and Schwabe
(2001), music is a repetitive good, since unlike many other types of information, if one likes a song,
one is inclined to listen to it over and over again. It is essential to keep these economic properties in
mind when considering mobile music distribution.
2.2 History of innovation in the music industry
The history of music distribution sees its birth in the early days when music printing was the only
means of distribution. Subsequently, the ability of audio recording and duplication emerged,
eventually giving rise to mass production capabilities using various technologies as storage media
(Figure 2).
Despite the continuous stream of innovation, the record labels have remained largely

pulse is detected. The Vcc pin is connected to 5V and the GND is connected to the ground pin.
The module was connected as shown in Figure 1b and ran the python program project D c.py to test
the distance measurement. This program outputs the distance detected by the HC SRO4. The voltage
signal from the Trig and Echo pins were connected to an oscilloscope through different channels and
the amplitude and timing were compared. It could be seen that signal for the Trig has amplitude of 5V

Project Planning Tools Are Useful For Tasks Essay
Project planning tools are useful for tasks with the possibility of different outcomes, where risks of
problems and failures exist and, therefore, require planning and all possible assessing options as well
as organizing activities and resources to deliver a successful result.
Some project planning tools are enumerated below. It is pertinent to mention that the effectiveness and
appropriateness of each one is a function of the project stage and the users experience:
PERT CHARTS
PERT is a planning and control tool used for defining and controlling the tasks necessary to complete
a project.
PERT Planning Steps: Identify the specific activities and milestones Determine the proper sequence of
activities Construct a network diagram. Estimate the time required for each activity Determine Critical
Path A distinguishing feature of PERT is its ability to deal with uncertainty in activity completion
times (Netmba, 2006). This is achieved by using 3 time estimates elements for each activity
(optimistic, most likely and pessimistic estimates namely). The weighted average of the 3 is then used
as the due time.
This helps to bias time estimates away from the unrealistically short timescales typically assumed
Advantage as indicated on Project Management Tools and Techniques(Maserang, 2002):
Allows for better forecasting of resource requirements.

The Negative Use Of Technology And Young Children
Technology and Young Children
Technology is defined as a knowledgeable and skillful tool that provides a service to individuals.
Technology and digital media are tools that are used for teaching and learning. I will show how
technology can positively impact young children and how it can be used to benefit young children.
According to Positive Parenting technology and digital media provides the following benefits:
1. Cause and effect: allows access, curiosity, and exploration at a safe distance when monitored. At a
very young age children can start to perform a variety of actions and at a young age they are aware of
the outcome between those actions.
2. Enhances eye hand coordination is the movement of eye movement along with hand movements
simultaneously. Students tend to learn more when they interact with hands on learning devices or tools
that educational technology provides.
3. Fine tunes motor skills (pushing buttons, using mouse)
4. Encourages concentration and persistence that can build confidence and self esteem.
5. Increases technological competence. (BM, 2014)
Tablets are replacing the use of textbooks and social media is a commonplace for even the youngest of
users. When used intentionally and appropriately, technology and interactive media are effective tools
that can support young children s cognitive skills, social and emotional developments. There are a

Application For Xpertrule And Ethical Issues
Work Related Application for XpertRule and Ethical Issues
The range of applications for XpertRule system to manufacturing, marketing, and sales is so wide.
The system is wide ranging as helping a banker in making financial decisions to helping university
advisors and university students to plan and schedule appointments. For example, in a financial
service industry, XpertRule system can be used by bankers as an advisory system to help make
decisions on whether to make a loan available to individuals or businesses. Globalization and modern
technology have created competition in the financial industry and these competitions come with risks.
Therefore, risk management in the financial industry is important. So persuading superiors in a
financial industry such as in a bank, would not be so difficult because risk management is needed in
credit, operations, and market. Risk management in banks does not only involve planning and backup
but also technical assistance that helps bank managers take quick action and manage all risks (Mali
Kulkarni, n.d). This would help increase quality, reduce error, decrease manpower, security system in
banks, increase speed for complex tasking, increase customer service, and improve decisions (Mali

Although this system has some persuasive advantages, it could also be opposed because it might be
deskilling decision markers. The use of this system could result in the unwarranted reliance on the

1948 within the context of this era by their leader, Jack Kerouac, stating that they were a generation
having been beaten into consciousness (Watson 3). Four years later, in 1942 the term was introduced
to the public at large by writer Clellon Holmes in an article for the New York Times he titled, This Is

Personality Theories In Good Will Hunting
Personality theory is very important within Psychology due to the fact that personality explains who a
person is. As for theory, it is a set of ideas that are established about certain facts to help better
understand them (Engler, 2013). There has been many famous personality theorists such as Sigmund
Freud and Erik Erikson. Both of these men have developed very important personality theories that
have helped in understanding the development from childhood to adulthood. Within the movie Good

Introduction
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality has reached epidemic proportions.
Consequently, the importance of prevention of the disease, in addition to the treatment of the clinical
outcome of the existing disease, has emerged as a priority in the field. These efforts have turned to
what is in fact the underlying cause of myocardial infarctions and the resulting heart disease,
specifically, atherosclerotic vascular disease.
This vascular condition affects the entire vascular tree and is also the cause of cerebrovascular and
peripheral vascular disease (PAD), as well as the reason for major clinical complications such as
restenosis and vein graft arterialisation. The development of atherosclerotic vascular disease involves
a complex interplay of genetic, metabolic, cellular, and immunological factors, and understanding
these factors is the first step in targeting heart disease.

Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad )
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a disorder that is characterized by degeneration of the hippocampal and
cortical neurons of the brain causing memory impairment and a decline in cognitive abilities. The
current study by Ghoneim et al.1 focuses on the role of three proteins in the pathogenesis of
Alzheimer s. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling is important for development and
maintenance of normal neuronal circuits in the brain. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is
expressed by astrocytes in the central nervous system in response to neuron damage. Ki 67 is a protein
that is responsible for detecting cell proliferation. Ghoneim et al. designed their study to explore the
effects of caffeine intake on the expression of these proteins in rats induced with AD.
Caffeine is hypothesized to have a protective effect against AD for a multitude of reasons. It is
believed that caffeine has the potential to reduce amyloid beta accumulation because it is associated
with reduced oxidative stress. It could also reduce the effects of the inflammatory response which is a
well known trademark of AD. Lastly, caffeine has been identified to have a role in maintaining the
blood brain barrier.
Previously, it has been suggested that drinking 3 5 cups of coffee per day during midlife is associated
with a 65% decreased risk of dementia/Alzheimer s in the elderly. Other studies have reported that
caffeine inhibits the production of amyloid beta in the brain and reverses cognitive

vast amount of clients.
This company is setup in a very large vertical structure that starts with the CEO and works its way
down to its front line agents and employees. All decisions are filtered from the top to the bottom and
all requested approvals must originate from below and make their way up the company hierarchy. This
type of structure relies heavily on middle management to execute directives and monitor their
frontline resources to ensure they are being productive. This reliance on a large pool of middle
managers to run day to day operations makes this type of structure very large in size as well as
expensive from a payroll perspective.

Environmental Policy
I. Introduction and Problem Identification
Everyone is expected to do the right thing in a society that has a social awareness. The social
awareness includes moral behaviour, ethical behaviour and obey the rules. Forest and land fire is a
complex environmental problem in Indonesia. In the last 18 years since 1997/1998, forest and land
fires happen in every year in Indonesia. The problem is not only because of natural cause but also

Disaster Management
PREFACE
The Indian subcontinent has a tropical climate and unstable landforms. India, Pakistan, and
Bangladesh are prone to natural disasters of various kinds on a continual basis. Coupled with high
population density, poverty, illiteracy and lack of infrastructure, the natural disasters kill thousands of
people and leave a devastating impact on economy and environment.
The importance of telecommunication in disaster management has been widely accepted since the
early days of the development of radio communication. Disasters can strike without warning at any
time of the day or night. On the Indian subcontinent, the pressure from population increase and over
exploitation of resources for haphazard development has disturbed the ecological ... Show more

When conducted as a military operation, it is termed Disaster Relief Operation (DRO) and can be a
follow up to a Non combatant evacuation operation (NEO). They may be supported by a number of
secondary emergency services, such as specialist rescue teams.
Recovery
The aim of the recovery phase is to restore the affected area to its previous state. It differs from the
response phase in its focus; recovery efforts are concerned with issues and decisions that must be
made after immediate needs are addressed. Recovery efforts are primarily concerned with actions that
involve rebuilding destroyed property, re employment, and the repair of other essential infrastructure.
An important aspect of effective recovery efforts is taking advantage of a window of opportunity for
the implementation of mitigative measures that might otherwise be unpopular. Citizens of the affected
area are more likely to accept more mitigative changes when a recent disaster is in fresh memory.
In India, the role of emergency management falls to National Disaster Management of India, a
government agency subordinate to the Ministry of Home affairs. In recent years there has been a shift
in emphasis, from response and recovery to strategic risk management and reduction, and from a
government centered approach to decentralized community participation. The countries of the Indian
subcontinent suffer continually from natural disasters such as drought, floods, cyclones, earthquakes,
landslides,

Lobster Industry
In Where Have All the Exploiters Gone? Co Management of the Maine Lobster Industry , author
James M. Acheson validates Garret Hardin s logic in Tragedy of the Commons that property rights do
in fact help conserve resources. Acheson also refutes basic principles set forth by Hardin that users of
open access resources have no vested interest in preserving resources over the long term and are
unable to generate regulating mechanisms.
The Maine Lobster fisherman have developed a widely used and accepted territorial system for
regulating access to lobster fishing grounds on the coast of Maine. The system is an informal system
that it is not legislatively created or mandated, but is communally imposed and enforced by the local
fishing communities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fisherman strongly believed that the notching process during culling, which made the sexually
proven females off limits and illegal to harvest in the future, helped in the conservation efforts and
ensured those proven breeding females would be returned to the waters. There they would be legally
protected to continue breeding without danger of being harvested in the future. Studies validated the
local fishermen s theory that females in the population showing spawned eggs were statistically more
likely to breed again and consequently would increase the egg stock in the waters and health of the
lobster populations. The Department of Marine Resources felt that the notching of the females created
conditions for infection of the females at the notch location. However, the Department yielded at the
insistence of the fishermen. There was evidence provided that the practice was in fact helping the
conservation effort. In addition, there was much discussion between the groups of the effectiveness of
conservation efforts such as minimum harvest size, trap limits, licenses and escape vents on traps. The
lobster fishermen actively participated in the decision making process and worked through their own
lobbying efforts to guide and shape legislation for the Maine lobster industry that both reflected their
own conservation

Dealing With Absence By Emily Bronte And Thomas Hardy
A lot of times in life you feel some presence of absence. Now what the absence is can vary greatly.
You can feel this missing element in a lot of things in life. It can be from a loved one all the way to a
hobby. Obviously when you feel the absence, you have to find some way to deal with it. That is
exactly what Emily Bronte and Thomas Hardy do in their poems. In Emily Bronte s poem the speaker
is dealing with the loss of a loved one. The speaker is trying to make some decisions on what to do
and her way is one way to look at things. In Thomas Hardy s first poem he has another unique way of
dealing with this absence. His isn t in the same way though because it isn t about the same thing. Then
in his second poem there is yet another take on absence, it has a very harsh tone to it and is an
extremely dark poem. Dealing with absence can be approached in many different ways. In the poems

In his poem he has not lost anyone, his complication is more of losing some thing. The thing is the
eighteenth century, and he is having trouble with the fact that it is going away. It s winter at the time
too so everyone is inside and no one wants to be out giving it an even more depressing mood. Out of
nowhere a bird pokes up in this gloomy time and starts to sing its beautiful melodious song. In the
midst of all of the bad times he is going through, he realizes there may be some hope for the
nineteenth century. It s best described when he says, ...His happy good night air some blessed Hope,
whereof he knew and I was unaware. (Lines 31 32) Right here it shows you that this bird sings a song
in the gloom and it s beautiful. He realizes that no matter the bad times, there is always some hope for
the future. He really decides to take an optimistic view on these rough

Government Reactions during the Great Recession
Monetary Policy and Fiscal Policy: Government Reactions during The Great Recession
Monetary policy and fiscal policy can greatly influence the US economy.
Keynesian economics says, A depressed economy is the result of inadequate spending. Keynesian
argued that government intervention can help a depressed economy through monetary policy and
fiscal policy. The idea established by Keynes was that managing the economy is a government
responsibility.
Monetary policy uses changes in the quantity of money to alter interest rates and in turn affect the
level of overall spending. The object of monetary policy is to influence the nation s economic
performance, as measured by inflation, the employment rate and the gross domestic product, an
aggregate measure of economic output. Monetary policy is controlled by the Central Bank and
influences money supply.
Fiscal policy uses changes in taxes and government spending to affect overall spending and stabilize
the economy. The objective of fiscal policy is the governments typical use fiscal policy to promote
strong and sustainable growth and reduce poverty. During periods of recession congress has the option
to decrease taxes to give households more disposable income so they can buy more products.
Therefore, lowering tax rates increases GDP.
The steady growth of core inflation in late 2007 and the first half of 2008 appear to suggest that the
Fed s applied discretionary powers to avoid a tightening. In 2009 the feds needed to be

My Hate And Love Of Poetry
From My Hate To Love of Poetry I hated poetry, loathed it even. Until eighth grade I hated writing,
reading, or even listening to poetry. Something about it was remarkably confusing and annoying.
Anyone that knows me would most likely think I would enjoy poetry. I am a extremely slow reader, so
the fact that poetry is almost always short and easy to read would make people think it is something I
would appreciate. The problem with poetry was constantly not having any idea what the author was
trying to tell the reader.. Yes, there was an occasional poem that I could really understand. For the
most part, though; I would not be able to understand any of them. I always avoided anything that
made me feel unintelligent, from that stemmed my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meaning that we need to try and understand what the author of this poem is trying to tell us. The only
thing that I have a huge issue with, is the one thing he is demands that we do. As he is telling all this I
am sinking into my seat farther and farther. I try not to completely lose my cool as I freak out that on
the inside that my grade in this class is going to tank. And poetry is all to blame.
When he hands out the first poem a few days later, the anxiety comes back. First he reads through it.
My hands shake with the paper in them. It gets so bad that I have to lay it down on the desk. I wipe
my palms on my jeans from the sweat that is starting to form, heartbeat speeding up again. When he is
finished reading it to us all I can think is, I am sooo screwed! Mr.Stell then says, These are meant to
help you think deeper. Most of you are most likely freaked out because you have no idea what that
said. I glance around the room and see most people look the way that I feel. I can feel the relief flow
through my body as I realize I am not the only one that does not know what they are doing.
As I actively read through the poem I look for the things he told us to look for. I circle, highlight, and
underline trying so hard to try and grasp what the author is trying to convey through his words. And
soon enough it is time for the first socratic circle. When I walk into class that day the relief has worn
off and the anxiety has come back full force. Palms are

Premillennialist Belief In Rapture
The fact that there exist various narratives concerning the topic of apocalypse invites the notion that
there is a great number of people desiring the end of the world. Why would somebody be desirous of
terminating the world s existence? Despite the fact that the end of the world has a dark, uncanny,
irredeemably, and desperate tone to it, one has to consider its consequences. Therefore, the evangelical
protestantism belief in the rapture offers a solution to the otherwise unsatisfactory or even nonexistent
future. Dispensational premillennialists think of themselves as being designated to spread the idea of
rapture; which conveys that Christ will come to earth in order to take the true believers to heaven.
True believers are worthy of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rapture in this case is a synonym for escape; an escape from a world true believers are
undeservingly trapped in. The question that emerges while analyzing rapture is whether true believers
are utterly freed from desires in heaven. Humans are determined to desire something and therefore it
appears unlikely that after being taken to heaven, these desires completely vanish. Another reason for
apocalyptic desire in terms of the rapture is hope for a better life. People that feel incomplete, that
cannot bear competition, that are harrassed or even people that are alone may desire to be taken away
from a miserable place. God s existence and his presence in heaven would save them. Faith and hope
motivate discontented people to cope with everyday life. Furthermore Crawford Gribben explains that:
[...] dispensational premillennialism appealed to those evangelicals dissatisfied with the theological
prevarications of mainstream Protestantism, as well as those, [...], whose disappointment with the
possibilities of mission work was both a cause and a consequence of their increasingly pessimistic
millennial point of view. (Gribben 5) The irony of his statement nevertheless is that in terms of a
pessimistic millennial point of

  • 2. Indians Impact On The American Revolution Indian Removal Looking throughout the overwhelming events the American Revolution had on everyone involved, allows us to examine how the governments policies toward the Indians changed over time. It shows how the policy changes effected the Indians as well as the Americans , their attitudes toward each other as the American s pushed westward and the Indians resisted. Then the actions on both sides which lead up to the final removal of all Indians to west of the Mississippi in 1830 s. The government as well as the Americans attitudes toward the Indians at the beginning of the Revolution was pretty much the same as Thomas Jefferson s, which was that given time the Indians could possibly change their ways and conform to white society s way of life. The Indian removal had a profound impact on both the Indians as well as the white settlers. Each one felt they were justified in their actions because each was doing what was best for their families and their way of life. The Indians felt they were between a rock and a hard place. Whom to side with? On one hand, were the British who seemed to want to protect the Indian territories, on the other were the Patriots who were aggressively taking more and more land. Most stayed neutral waiting to see the outcome, some chose the British. Chief Dragging Canoe of the Cherokee tribe attacked white settlement in Virginia and western Carolinas around the summer of 1776. In the eyes of white society all Indians are the same, this had a ... • 3. Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy The Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy Officially Accepted Story During the 1960 s and 70 s, America and the USSR were in the midst of the Cold War Era, a period of time where instead of fighting each other they competed against each other in order to be the first nation to win the space race and that meant landing a human on the moon and have them return safely before the other country. In 1961 Russia was ahead of America in the space race after managing to launch Yuri Gagarin into space, have him orbit the earth and return him safely , 23 days before American astronaut Alan B Shepard was able too. In response to trailing behind Russia, President John F. Kennedy gave a speech at Rice University Stadium in which he challenged America to find a way to put a man on the moon and return him safely before the end of the decade. After launching from the Kennedy space centre on July 20th 1969 the crew of Apollo 11 orbited the earth one and a half times before being given permission to go to the moon, three days later the crew are in orbit around the moon. Six hours after the lunar module lands on the moons surface, Neil Armstrong becomes the first man to walk on the moon. The two astronauts spend two and a half hours on the moon s surface collecting rocks and conducting experiments before behind a plaque which honoured the astronauts that had died in the pursuit of getting to space, American and Russian, an America flag and a plaque with a message that read Here men from ... The scandal was known as the Watergate scandal. The scandal was called Watergate because it occurred at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. Nixon and his administration attempted to cover up the scandal, but the scandal was discovered and investigated by Congress. The scandal comprised of illegal activities such as bugging of offices, ordering investigations of activist groups and political figures with the use of the FBI, CIA, and IRS. There were several abuses of power during the scandal and the results of the scandal and investigation were indictment of sixty nine individuals and Richard Nixon resigning his office as President of the United States. During normal conversations that didn t deal with business, his tone seemed very relaxed, but when questions of the scandal or blackmail came up his voice got louder and his tone was in my opinion that of an angry, defensive, or frustrated individual. Casino Industry in Macau The Casino Industry in Macau Research Question I intend to evaluate the Casino Industry in Macau including the reasons for its high demand and growing success and compare it to the Casino Industry in Las Vegas. The gaming industry is the livelihood of Macau. It is responsible for 75% of the government s income and provides the people of Macau with millions of jobs. Even though gambling was first legalized under Portuguese rule to finance the government, it remains the same under Chinese rule today. The rules and regulations set forth oversee the casino industry and grant companies with casino concessions. It is dramatically more profitable than Las Vegas because of the devastating effects of the American Recession. Introduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This only attracted more tourists to the country and encouraged locals to gamble more. The construction and operation of new casinos also dramatically increased employment rates. Who Regulates the Casino Industry in Macau? After the casino monopoly ended in 2001, the government formed rules and regulations that would administer the gaming industry. The dissolution of the monopoly meant that companies besides STDM were now allowed to build and operate casinos in Macau. Theses rules and regulations were to ensure that the new casinos were operating properly and fairly (Loughlin and Pannell). Soon after the monopoly ended, the Legislative Assembly passed a law (No. 16) that clearly outlined the definition gambling and casino . The law stated what would be acceptable and what would not be acceptable in terms of gambling in Macau. It also explained the guidelines for the concession system and the procedure for bidding. In order to enforce these rules and regulations, the Legislative Assembly established the Casino Commissions Committee. This committee consists of eight members and is overseen by the Secretary of Economics and Finance. At the time of its establishment, this man was Francis Tam Pak Yuen. History of an Atom In this day and age, almost every educated middle school student would be able to sketch and label a given diagram of an atom. However, still to this day, not one human has seen what an atom looks like. Our current atomic model, the same one in which you most likely learnt in 5th grade, is really just an educated theory, comprised of years of experimental trials and errors. In fact, the original four elements, introduced by ancient philosopher Aristotle: Fire Air, Water, and Earth, were once believed the only elements forming natural matter. Although frowned upon by the ancient Greek society, philosophers Leucippus and Democritus developed their own theoretical understanding of nature. Their theory concluded that every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His diagram quickly gained the label plum pudding, as the electrons similarly resembled the plum slices inside of a pudding. 1909: Ernest Rutherford The atomic model evolved to a familiar diagram following the results of Rutherford s popular gold foil experiment. Essentially, a student of Rutherford s class had been examining the possible pattern of positively charged particles contacting the element of gold. While filming the student s examination, Rutherford noticed that most of the particles flew straight through, and only a tiny portion either bounced straight back or off of an angle. If Thomson s model was correct, all of the radium particles should have bounced off of the foil however, they did not. This led Rutherford to believe that the positive charge of an atom is not equal to the whole of an atom, but rather an even smaller core, located in the middle of the atom, surrounded by the negatively charged electrons. He concluded that the atom is mostly empty space, and that most of the atoms mass came from the small central core which he declared the nucleus. 1913: Niels Bohr Niels Bohr, a former student of Rutherford, proposed his own theory: the quantum theory. Furthering Rutherford s model, Bohr insisted that electrons spin around the nucleus in fixed orbits , such as planets around the sun. A small tourist town, few people can identify it on a map and even fewer recognize the damage being inflicted on its environment. As I have become older, the issue of trash on these beaches has become more apparent and I have become more involved with this issue. For me, being a global citizen means protecting the planet and the people who reside in it, and this can be tackled by altering the way we treat waste. In the United States we live in a disposable society. We throw out plastic products after one use and dispose of gently used clothing and electronics. • 9. Essay about Two Suits, Two Dresses, or One of Each How can denying two people of the same sex the right to have a marriage be considered constitutional? Why is our country taking away rights of people because they want to be with someone of the same gender? Gay and lesbian couples have been denied their right to marry for some time now. Same sex couples should be allowed to express and celebrate their commitment to a partner the same way a heterosexual couple does, as well as obtain the same benefits. Our country is not a Theocracy, we have separation of church and state, therefore the government cannot press biblical or church will on citizens. The church has defined marriage as between a man and a woman and this is fine as long as the government keeps a non religious standpoint. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means the government cannot enact laws that prevent marriage between individuals of a certain sexual orientation. If marriage is considered a civil liberty, then the 14th amendment should stop the government from making laws that prohibit civil liberties based on a person s choice in a partner. . . . Section 3 of DOMA violates the equal protection clause because it treats gay man and lesbians differently on the basis of their sexual orientation (Hanna 30). If we continue to strike down laws like DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), which denied same sex couples the right to marry, we can fight this controversy and help innocent people obtain a right that they were born with. Some people may argue that marriage has always been defined as between one man and one woman or that allowing gay marriage will weaken the institution of marriage. Extending to gays and lesbians the right to marry would undermine traditional marriage, and therefore, governments have a valid reason to maintain the traditional definition of it (Hanna 29). It is inaccurate to define marriage as between one man and one woman because our world history is full of polygamy, concubines, mistresses, and prostitution. Kings in the past had many women and this was considered normal, one could say that the traditional marriage is the one that is not normal. We redefine things as the general attitudes about them ... However, the culture of uncertainty among eager mothers has engulfed their thoughts of the possibility of giving birth to children with disabilities. As a result, they have turned to clinics for prenatal screening with a hope of getting a clean bill of health from medical practitioners about their current situation. All these efforts are not in vain in their minds as long as they are assured their babies will not have Down s syndrome or any other birth defect. These frantic efforts pertain image of a society that dread disability. With the bold writings on the societal wall, people with disabilities have legitimate worries about the way in which prenatal screening is handled in our culture. ... Based on the benefits, success, statistical data, I will defend the perspective of physically challenged individuals by highlighting numerous success records of families with children affected from Down s syndrome as it is widely common. According to Synder and Gauthier (2008), ethics can be defined as a moral principle that dictates human behavior and classifying it as either good or bad based on the end result and the motive behind the cause of action. • 13. The Historical Role Reversal Between The Democratic And... The historical role reversal between the Democratic and Republican parties is a much debated topic. There are questions on whether it actually did occur, if so, around what time period, and for what reasons. There, in fact, was a role reversal and it occurred sometime between the years 1928 and 1932. Reasons that may have sparked the switch could be disagreement among party members, major issue disputes such as economy, rights, or even money, all of which are evident in today s society. Based on the research stated throughout, the most realistic reason that this phenomenon occurred was because of the failing economy and extremely poor leadership in the white house. The economy in the 1930 s was in a depression, which was the worst depression that the United States has ever experienced. The stock market crashed, inflation was at an all time high, gas prices rose, unemployment was at nearly 25 percent, and the U.S. Dollar was worth nearly nothing. All of this followed by president Herbert Hoover who prolonged the suffering of the United States economy. The people in the extremely poor cities that could no longer afford to live in house or apartments became homeless and consequently built hoovervilles. Hoovervilles were large congregations of homeless people. After Hoover s term as president, President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected and brought the economy back from the dead so to say. There are television programs about the African Queens and Kings who never set sail for America, but are acknowledged as the pillars of our identity. In addition, our black school children finally get to hear about the history of their ancestors instead of hearing about Columbus and the founding of America. The great founding of America briefly includes the slavery period and the Antebellum south, but readily excludes both black men and women, such as George Washington Carver, Langston Hughes, and Mary Bethune. Black Americans should be acknowledged for not only their contributions to American society, but also for being a part of American society and upholding the traditions and values of this country. Black History Month should not be a celebration that comes and goes in our own minds and homes. Black History Month should not be a remembrance that is acknowledged only when the official day begins. Black History Month is an accomplishment that we should be proud of in the Black community. Carter G. Woodson chose the month of February for some important reasons. For instance, Black History Month marks the birthdays of two men who influenced the black population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln according to Woodson. In addition, the Fifteenth Amendment was passed on February 3, 1870, which granted blacks the right to vote. There were a lot of significant reasons for allowing Black History Week to begin in February. However, I seriously doubt if Woodson would have accepted the extension of this week in the shortest month of the year. Woodson chose a week in February, because it had symbolic significance. Black History Week began in 1926. • 16. Cultural Anthropology Research Paper Throughout the world many people find it very difficult to communicate with people that do not share the same ideals as them. This lack of communication is a major barrier in advancement of our world. Anthropology, in short, is the study of humans living and dead Anthropology is divided into five main categories: applied, linguistic, medical, biological, archaeological, and cultural. Each of these five divisions teaches a different aspect of human life. Cultural anthropology teaches acceptance. There are social norms that can be found in every culture, the difference from culture to culture is socialization how people react appropriately to one in another. These differences can be in food, clothing, or religion. Each difference has meaning to why it is done that certain way, either because of climate, history, resources or any other aspect that causes people to live the way they do. If cultural differences are studied further, comparisons can be made to one s own way of life and both cultures begin to look very similar. Once a person has been made aware of the differences and the reasons why they occur, it becomes easier to become more understand to a group of people s needs or wants. This universal of understanding tends to come in handy during a job or even in everyday social interaction. • 19. Richard Cory Analysis Essay In Edwin Robinson s Richard Cory, one major theme is envy. I struggle as a person with envying others and also with greed, so this poem related to me on that level, however, I have also experienced the opposite, where people envy me without knowing my burdens. The poet tells a story, or tells more, a parable, that uses irony and a bluntness that makes it so the reader can interpret it and relate it to their own lives easily. What I think is the foremost of the ways Robinson relates to the reader, is through playing on common emotions. In this specific poem, it is envy and those who possess the envy are the villagers. It can be somewhat inferred from the first two stanzas, but in the third stanza it nearly directly states their feelings by saying in lines 11 and 12, In fine, we thought that he was everything / To make us wish that we were in his place. These villagers envy Richard Cory, who they laud like a king even though he is no greater than them, only in wealth. But then in the fifth and sixth lines, he says, And he was always quietly arrayed, / And he was always human when he talked, which slightly contradicts what was said about him in the prior verse. Not only is that an example, but then also how Robinson ends the poem adds on to the irony of it. The last stanza, filled with irony on its own, completes the poem by sharing that Cory kills himself. Before taking this class, I thought the movie Troy was an accurate account of the war. I also had no idea that the Gods had a large role in the Iliad. I was shocked to learn that the majority of the history of the Trojan War involves the Gods. In my opinion, it seems very unbelievable. According to homer, people believed in Zeus, Hades, Apollo, Poseidon, and the other Gods. Something I don t understand is how people actually believe homers account of the Trojan War. The Iliad had so many parts where the Gods were directly involved the war between the Trojans and the Greeks. Almost none of Homers accounts of the Gods were mentioned in the movie because the history the Trojan War wound sound less believable. The Iliad and the movie Troy have similar content. When I read the Iliad and watched the movie, the movie sounds more believable then the Iliad. Toward the beginning of the Iliad a conversation between Achilles, Tetis and Zeus was not mentioned the movie. We gravitate towards the things in life that bring us pleasure, and recoil from those that cause us pain. People always show a feeling of wanting everything their way, as to wanting something. Just like everything else there are always limits. In order to obtain these things that people believe will bring them happiness, many go over the line. Many believe that with money they can have anything they desire. Though it may be true to an extent, sometimes the desires eventually turn into greed and people lose some of the most valuable things life has to offer. Focusing on the illusion that money brings happiness may have an unexpected turn later down the road. For instance, when someone reflects on how money would change their sense of well being, they would probably think about spending more time in leisurely pursuits such as traveling abroad. But in reality, they would have to spend a large amount of time working and less time engaged in experienced happiness. Robert H. Gender And The Beat Generation Gender and the Beat Generation The entire Beat Generation began with a small group of boys who had all attended Columbia University at one point or another (Watson 29 38). The term Beat Generation was initially coined in 1948 within the context of this era by their leader, Jack Kerouac, stating that they were a generation having been beaten into consciousness (Watson 3). Four years later, in 1942 the term was introduced to the public at large by writer Clellon Holmes in an article for the New York Times he titled, This Is the Beat Generation (Watson 3). In his article he describes beatness as being, more than mere weariness, it implies the feeling of having been used, of being raw. It involves a certain nakedness of mind, and ultimately ... However, their union was still quite shocking to many and was a huge disappointment to Hettie s Italian American family (Watson 267). As Hettie Jones recounts in her memoir, she hardly felt safe to walk down the street hand in hand with her lover, for constant verbal assault was thrown at them (Jones 36). Integrated Pathology Case Study On Cardiovascular Disease Integrated Pathology Case Study Multifactorial disease Vascular Dysfunction in Heart Disease BSc Biomedical Sciences School of Healthcare Science Faculty of Science and Engineering Manchester Metropolitan University Ayesha Iqbal 12109879 Introduction Cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality has reached epidemic proportions. Consequently, the importance of prevention of the disease, in addition to the treatment of the clinical outcome of the existing disease, has emerged as a priority in the field. These efforts have turned to what is in fact the underlying cause of myocardial infarctions and the resulting heart disease, specifically, atherosclerotic vascular disease. This vascular condition affects the entire vascular tree and is also the cause of cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular disease (PAD), as well as the reason for major clinical complications such as restenosis and vein graft arterialisation. The development of atherosclerotic vascular disease involves a complex interplay of genetic, metabolic, cellular, and immunological factors, and understanding these factors is the first step in targeting heart disease. Aetiology of the disease aetiology: describe the specific disorder and the biological basis of its cause of origin CVD are diseases of the cardiac muscle or vasculature. • 41. Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad ) Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a disorder that is characterized by degeneration of the hippocampal and cortical neurons of the brain causing memory impairment and a decline in cognitive abilities. The current study by Ghoneim et al.1 focuses on the role of three proteins in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer s. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling is important for development and maintenance of normal neuronal circuits in the brain. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is expressed by astrocytes in the central nervous system in response to neuron damage. Ki 67 is a protein that is responsible for detecting cell proliferation. Ghoneim et al. designed their study to explore the effects of caffeine intake on the expression of these proteins in rats induced with AD. Caffeine is hypothesized to have a protective effect against AD for a multitude of reasons. It is believed that caffeine has the potential to reduce amyloid beta accumulation because it is associated with reduced oxidative stress. It could also reduce the effects of the inflammatory response which is a well known trademark of AD. Lastly, caffeine has been identified to have a role in maintaining the blood brain barrier. Previously, it has been suggested that drinking 3 5 cups of coffee per day during midlife is associated with a 65% decreased risk of dementia/Alzheimer s in the elderly. Other studies have reported that caffeine inhibits the production of amyloid beta in the brain and reverses cognitive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Acheson validates Garret Hardin s logic in Tragedy of the Commons that property rights do in fact help conserve resources. Acheson also refutes basic principles set forth by Hardin that users of open access resources have no vested interest in preserving resources over the long term and are unable to generate regulating mechanisms. The fisherman strongly believed that the notching process during culling, which made the sexually proven females off limits and illegal to harvest in the future, helped in the conservation efforts and ensured those proven breeding females would be returned to the waters. There they would be legally protected to continue breeding without danger of being harvested in the future. Studies validated the local fishermen s theory that females in the population showing spawned eggs were statistically more likely to breed again and consequently would increase the egg stock in the waters and health of the lobster populations. The Department of Marine Resources felt that the notching of the females created conditions for infection of the females at the notch location. However, the Department yielded at the insistence of the fishermen. There was evidence provided that the practice was in fact helping the conservation effort. In addition, there was much discussion between the groups of the effectiveness of conservation efforts such as minimum harvest size, trap limits, licenses and escape vents on traps. • 51. Premillennialist Belief In Rapture The fact that there exist various narratives concerning the topic of apocalypse invites the notion that there is a great number of people desiring the end of the world. Why would somebody be desirous of terminating the world s existence? Despite the fact that the end of the world has a dark, uncanny, irredeemably, and desperate tone to it, one has to consider its consequences. Therefore, the evangelical protestantism belief in the rapture offers a solution to the otherwise unsatisfactory or even nonexistent future. Dispensational premillennialists think of themselves as being designated to spread the idea of rapture; which conveys that Christ will come to earth in order to take the true believers to heaven. True believers are worthy of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rapture in this case is a synonym for escape; an escape from a world true believers are undeservingly trapped in. The question that emerges while analyzing rapture is whether true believers are utterly freed from desires in heaven. Humans are determined to desire something and therefore it appears unlikely that after being taken to heaven, these desires completely vanish. Another reason for apocalyptic desire in terms of the rapture is hope for a better life. People that feel incomplete, that cannot bear competition, that are harrassed or even people that are alone may desire to be taken away from a miserable place. God s existence and his presence in heaven would save them. Faith and hope motivate discontented people to cope with everyday life.
