A Digipack is a type of CD packaging made of cardboard that replaces the plastic jewel case. Digipacks open like a book and have the CD placed inside on one of the panels. They were created to give CDs a more visual and creative presentation in order to appeal more to audiences compared to standard jewel cases. Digipacks allow for more images and text to be included and can persuade people to purchase physical CDs rather than downloading online. However, Digipacks are more expensive to produce than jewel cases and the CD is less protected from falling out.

1. A Digipack is a type of CD packaging that is used to replace
the plastic CD case. A Digipack is made out of card stock or
another type of cardboard. Below are examples of some
cardboard Digipack’s. They flip open just like a book
(gatefold) and the CD is placed in on the side as a CD
insert.

2.  Digipack's where created to give the CD a more visual and
creative way, this has appealed to the audience as it has
become more interesting for them rather than having a
conventional jewel CD.
 Digipack's are a lot more interesting as they can many fold
outs with many images and texts.
 Many people have stopped buying CD’s and have been
buying or downloading them online. By having the Digipack’s
with these images and texts persuades the target audience to
buy them rather than having a plain CD.

3.  Many people find that Digipack’s more interesting to
have, this is because they are much more detailed
and look nicer. However they are much more
expensive than a jewel case.
 Jewel cases have an advantage up against a
Digipack which might make the audience become
more appealed to a jewel case. This is because the
CD in a jewel case is protected and wont get fall out
compared to the Digipack which might slide out.

4. Katy Perry:
This is an example of a creative Digipack. As you can see the Digipack
consists of many images and text. The images are very creative due to
the theme involving cupcakes and candy. All the photos include direct
eye contact with the camera which makes the audience feel more
involved. The use of different camera angles also adds to the effect and
creativity of the Digipack making it stand out more than to a jewel CD.
Not only the camera angles but also the mise-en-scene as it is unique
compared to many of her competitors. The colours used on this
Digipack are bright which emphasises her vibrant image and the type of
music genre she sings.

5. Rihanna:
This is an example of a triple spread Digipack which follows a red colour
scheme with roses, red hair and red lips. The use of the close ups
highlights her innocence which contrasts the name of this album ‘Loud’.
The audience feel they should know more about it because of this
contrast therefore they will buy the Digipack to listen to the album. The
front cover of the album doesn’t consist of her name, just the name of
the album ‘Loud’, this targets her target audience as she is well known
artist.

6. Justin Timberlake:
This is an example of another Digipack which the CD is holded in the
middle like a Jewel CD. This make this Digipack similar to a Jewel CD
as some people believe that the CDs are more secure and protected in
this way. This Digipack has been divided with images and text. On the
right there is a whole side of text which may be of Timberlake thanking
his fans etc due to his music genre, this is accompanied with a picture.
On the left there are photos of him which help to sell his Digipack as it
targets his audience.
