Digipaks offer more than just a CD - they include additional panels for lyrics, posters, or other promotional materials. Digipaks are more eye-catching than jewel cases and allow artists to better promote themselves. While they are more durable than jewel cases, digipaks are more expensive to produce as CDs become less popular due to online music streaming and individual song downloads.

A digipak is a type of packaging for either CDs or DVDs, it offers the buyer
of the product more than just a CD. The digipak includes a front, back,
spine and four other panels within which could include lyrics from the song
or a poster.

4. Advantages of Digipaks
• Eye-catching; this makes it noticeable on the shelves, when it’s next to other CD covers. By having an eye catching digipak the CD sales are
more likely to go up. The audience/ fan figures will go up too.
• The artist has plenty of space to promote themselves to their audience, and gain more followers. It also gives the audience an idea what
the album is going to be like.
• A digipak is not as weak as other casings and thus does not break as easily or quickly, like a jewel case would. This means the owner of the
CD will have it longer, and the CD won’t become scratched so can be used for longer.
Disadvantages of Digipaks
• Due to modern technology (phones and iPods), CDs are becoming less popular because music is know available directly from online.
• A CD is also a lot more expensive to produce. They are also a lot more compact on small devices, rather than taking up space in your home
with lots on CDs.
• Moreover, you can buy a particular song online rather than a whole CD. This is appealing because some only want the one song , yet have
to buy the whole album in order to listen to that song.
• Digipak’s show more wear than having it produced on a jewel case or on a device.

5. The front of the digipak is very
simple but eye catching. The buyer
knows who the band is as the title
is in the middle. The image shows
light coming through some double
doors which could be leading into
a gig, perhaps this could imply a
more indie/ alternative band. It
also suggests a rawness about the
band as the door is not being
watched by body guards and
there’s no fans outside. Again
giving the vibe of a more indie
band. Therefore, this CD cover
might attract more alternative
teens.
The CD itself uses a matte and
a shiny black- this adds to the
simplistic idea which works
very effectively. It coordinates
well with the cover and the
rest of the digipak.
The back cover tells us
the names of the songs,
whilst using the same
picture as the front. This
almost looks like the
others ide of the door
and looks really effective
due to the
correspondence
throughout all of the
images.
The start of the booklet has
the band name at the top, and
underneath the names of the
two CDs inside. I think that the
booklet again, corresponds to
the rest of the album which
adds to the success of the
digipak.
