SF6 Emissions 12’000 t CO2 eq. Vacuum breakers and technical air (hypothetical) 660 t CO2 eq. More material consumption due to 550 kV/800 kV size SF6, improved Sealings and service concept 2 100 t CO2 eq. 0.1%/year leakage rate, 2% further losses EconiQ 440 t CO2 eq. C4-FN Emissions < 80 t CO2 eq. Gas leakage as in historic installed base (0.5%/year) C4FN CO2 O2

TODAY – (Hitachi Energy) Pilot project: Richborough, National Grid UK • Retrofill for ELK-3, 420 GIL • 755kg of SF6 removed = 17’700 tons of CO2 • Replaced with C4-FN – mixture • <10% increase in pressure • Fully type tested for 420 kV rating • Successful HV Test on first trial • Energization: 2nd December 2021
