  • 2. Presentation Goals • Share strategies for scaling training in computer science to K-12 in-service teachers. • Share resources for CS teacher professional development.
  • 3. Grand Challenge #2 Where are the CS Teachers? • In 2014-15, only 14 individuals completed a CS teacher certification program in Texas. • Only 2% of Texas graduates took a CS course in HS.
  • 4. WeTeachCS.org • WeTeach_CS helps connect educators with CS professional development opportunities to deepen skills, encourage innovation and build relationships with other educators.

  • 10. 10 Strategies for Effective and Inclusive CS Teaching • New online course launching in Fall 2017 sponsored by • Focused on Broadening Participation in CS • Practical strategies for growing an equitable CS program in your school – Recruitment and retention for diversity – Culturally relevant CS instruction – Unconscious bias

  • 13. 13Apply TODAY! Funded by Certification Incentive Program (CIP) Through the support of 100Kin10 and TEA, the CIP provides the opportunity for Texas educators to apply for a $1,000 STIPEND awarded by the TRC for successfully attaining their certification goal. 7. Reward Teachers
