This document provides information for students taking an online Spanish course, including contact information for the instructor, course structure and pacing, communication policies, and available resources. Students can access all lessons, assignments and tests online and are encouraged to contact the instructor via phone or email with any questions. The course is divided into segments with modules to be completed on a weekly schedule. Students have flexibility to work ahead but must maintain steady progress and communication with the instructor.

3. Benefits of an Online Course: Online Learning. No textbook or workbook. All lessons, assignments and tests are online. Always available. Students have access to the course all day, every day.

5. Course Information Once you have read and become familiar with the different topics found under course information, click on: LESSONS, and you can begin the class. Clicking on LESSONS is like opening your textbook. Course Information (Pace, Teacher Contact Info, Student Resources. Assessment (list of assignments/exams due). 7. Getting Started in Course Go to Course Information to get familiar with how to work in an on-line environment. Click on the different links to learn how to submit assessments/assignments as well as how to submit your voice activities (use your microphone). Like your textbook Lists all of the assessments that need to be completed Check for grades and feedback

8. Contact Me for HELP! Tips for calling an instructor: Call me when you need help. If you get the voice mail, make sure to leave a message. Phone calls returned within 24 hours. You can also go to the tutoring sessions. Tips for e-mailing your instructor: Use course email. (Course business only…it is recorded!) E-mails are answered within 24 hours.

9. Communication Communication is the KEY to online learning! When you log into FLVS.net, scroll down to the bottom of the “Dashboard” page. If our “last contact” date is red , we need to talk. Please note: Students will be set as “contact instructor” from the class if 6 weeks go by without a phone call. When the instructor talk a parent, the student will have access to the course again.

11. Discussion Based Assessments & Exams DBA: Call me so that we can complete the DBA at the end of each module. What to expect? We will review the Module and then practice the work you learned. Exam: Once you complete the DBA, I will give you the password to complete the exam. - Review of Module. -Tutoring of Module. -Assessment.

12. Grace Period Grace Period (28 Days). Make sure you can work weekly. Withdrawing during the 28 day grace period = no grade . Withdrawing after the 28 day grace period = WF or F on transcript and it may affect your GPA at school. Here is the difference between the F and the WF, F is when you have completed 50% or more of the segment and then need to be withdrawn. It's an actual grade of an F.

13. Pace Pace Chart: Weekly work schedule of what assignments are due. You can work ahead and finish ahead of schedule. The Pace Chart is found under the course information link on the left hand side. Print it and make sure you follow it in order to stay on task. Typical week’s work load: 4-5 assignments per week (traditional) or 8-9 (accelerated). About 5 hrs per week for (traditional) or 10 hrs per week (accelerated). 18 weeks per semester for traditional or 9 weeks for accelerated. Includes 2 floating vacation weeks.

14. Holidays and Vacation Time Students have 2 weeks of optional vacation time. If you are going to use a week of vacation: Make sure you are on pace (not behind). E-mail me the week before and I will adjust your weeks active .
