Water Scarcity Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of water scarcity is undeniably challenging due to the complexity
and multifaceted nature of the issue. It requires a comprehensive understanding of various
factors contributing to water scarcity, including but not limited to environmental, social,
economic, and political aspects. Researching credible sources, analyzing data, and synthesizing
information to present a well-rounded argument demand time and effort. Moreover, conveying
the urgency of addressing water scarcity while proposing viable solutions adds another layer of
difficulty. Crafting a compelling narrative that engages the reader while maintaining factual
accuracy and addressing potential counterarguments further complicates the writing process.
However, it's important to acknowledge that despite its difficulty, discussing water scarcity
through writing is crucial in raising awareness and promoting informed action towards
sustainable water management. By tackling this challenging topic head-on, one can contribute to
the dialogue surrounding water conservation and inspire positive change.

According to Rutledge (2010), in a 1949 opinion, the court said this about
probable cause, The rule of probable cause is a practical, nontechnical conception.
In dealing with probable cause, we deal with probabilities. These are not technical;
they are the factual and practical considerations of everyday life on which
reasonable and prudent men, not legal technicians, act. Probable cause exists
where the facts and circumstances within the officers knowledge and of which
they have reasonably trustworthy information are sufficient in themselves to
warrant a man of reasonable caution in the belief that an offense has been or is
being committed. (Brinegar v. U.S.). (Police Magazine, (2010) В¶ 5). Probable
cause must be supported by factual evidence, not just speculation. Some sources of
probable cause are strong enough to stand alone, where others need supplemented
by other sources. Types of warrantless searches There are many types or reasons for
a warrantless, which is when there is no need for a search warrant or even no
probable cause. These types of searches have become the most common in law
enforcement. The decision based on warrantless searches is based on the court s
decision and the logic that there was criminal suspicion to warrant the search. Many
everyday searches that are warrantless, which we need to be familiar with, are at

Costco Strategy
Company: Costco Costco was founded in 1983 by Jim Sinegal and Jeff Brotman
who were previous colleagues in California within other membership warehouse
stores. The company s business model was to generate high sales volumes and
rapid inventory turnover by offering members low prices on a limited selection of
nationally branded and select private label products in a wide range of merchandise
categories (Thompson, p. C 35). This analysis will review the cornerstones of
Costco s strategy; low prices, a limited product line, limited selection and a treasure
hunt shopping environment (p. C 35). Furthermore, it will identify if Sinegal s
strategic approach identifies with Thompson s five competitive strategies and Porter s

existing buyers, particularly for shoppers who are satisfying needs versus wants.
Costco s overall generic strategy of being a best cost provider has been effective and

The Killer Angels Analysis
During the American Civil War, the worst battle was the battle of Gettysburg. During
the battle the Union and the Confederacy collectively lost over 51,000 men to either
death, injury, or they were missing. Michael Shaara wrote The Killer Angels. The
author goes into the story by telling why each of the major characters were fighting
the war and their viewpoints. The author also tells the story though the letters and
other documents and not using the historical opinions of the battle. The Commander
of the Army of Northern Virginiais General Robert E. Lee. General Robert E. Lee at
the time of the battle is 57 years of age. General Robert E. Lee does not own slaves
nor does he believe in slavery, though he does not believe the Negro could be equal
to the white man. At the time the war started he was a soldier in the Union Army but
chose to fight in the war with Confederacy, due to his home state of Virginia
succeeding from the Union. General Lee knew that he could not lead an army to

He also often thought that the Confederacy and the Union were never really that
different and had more in common than not. He also does not seem to have an
opinion about slavery, but feels that it is a duty to fight for his country and not
fight against it. He also plays a very critical role in securing victory for the Union
during the battle. He holds hill tops during battles with the Confederacy, as the
Union assembles in other key locations. The author makes John Buford seem like a
real person by pointing out that even in the middle of a battle, he is thinking of his
future and where he is going to retire. He is described as thinking about fishing in the
south and beating the colder weather of the Midwest for the warmer weather in the
south but, fears he will not be able to return to the south due to the
Evolution Of Jerome By Jerome. Jerome
Evolution of Jerome Jerome was a very admirable character in both the film and
screenplay Gattaca ; there were times that he was the worst character and times he
was the best. In this futuristic, dystopian society it is possible for someone to give
his DNA to be used by another person. Jerome gives his DNA to Vincent, a person
without perfect DNA like Jerome, and surrenders his former identify to become
known as Eugene. Initially, with the complexities of the story focused on Vincent it
is hard to really get connected to Jerome. Despite obviously being the main character
as well, he was in the background so much that it was easy to get caught up in
Vincent s character. As the story line progresses Jerome s role becomes much more...

Before they got into the apartment, the gene broker was telling Vincent about how
Jerome was the healthiest and had the best genes that Vincent could find. He
actually said: You could go everywhere, with this guy s helix tucked under your arm
(26). So, when we are introduced to Jerome there were assumptions that he would be
a macho man, but he shows up in a wheelchair and smoking. Our first meeting with
Jerome was not anything overly exciting and he was very straight forward and
wanted nothing to do with a personal relationship with Vincent. To him, this was all
just a job and nothing else. The first big change in Jerome was when he and Vincent
went out to eat to celebrate Vincent going into space. Jerome drank too much and
Vincent helped him get into bed. When he was in bed, he had a moment of
vulnerability when he admitted that he was completely sober when he tried to kill
himself, I wasn t drunk when I walked in front of that car, and this wasn t really the
plan. If at first you don t succeed, try, try again! Eugene pulls Jerome down to him
and says I m proud of you Vincent (30). Vincent was startled from that encounter
because Jerome never ever called Vincent by his birth name, he always told him he
would go by the name of Jerome and that Jerome would be Eugene. If Vincent was
going to be Jerome he had to get used to responding to it. This was when Vincent
knew that Jerome was not as stable and together as he came off so it
The Interlopers And Mending Wall Literary Analysis
A holiday, or tradition is usually looked upon as times of happiness and a way to
gather with loved ones, but it isn t always that way. Traditions are a part of most
people s lives, and is really never seen as a negative connotation. Yet, there is
always another side to the story. In the two pieces, The Interlopers and Mending
Wall, tradition can be seen embedded in between the lines. The Interlopers features
two men whose families have hated one another for generations, all over a piece of
land that really has no value. The men find themselves bleeding out pinned under a
large tree branch, where they die to wolves. In Mending Wall, another set of two
men walk along a wall rebuilding it, as it has fallen apart during the winter season, but
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This tradition was all they knew, and kept the two men apart for their whole lives.
Before the wolves come, Ulrich(one of the men), asks Georg if he wants to finally
be friends, and Georg replies Ulrich von Gradwitz, I will be your friend. This
acquaintanceship had begun all in the hour or two they were together out of their
many years. In the short amount of time where the weight of tradition wasn t on their
shoulders, and no family was pressuring them, they were able to resolve their
conflicts. Another point is the conflict that had started their tradition over a plot of
forest that was not remarkable for the game it harbored or the shooting it afforded.
The author of the poem Mending Wall, Robert Frost, uses an extended metaphor to
reveal the idea that tradition can cause social division. Mending Wall is a poem
about two men who rebuild the stone wall that marks their property line, which is
done once every year after winter has died down. The narrator has seen the wall as
useless and there is truly no use for it, as his apple trees will never get across / and
eat the cones under his pines. It is like the narrator has a pack of wolves and the
other man sheep. Yet, the neighbor feels quite the opposite, he feels the wall is
necessary. He says not once, but twice Good fences make good neighbors.
Toy Story Life Lessons
What does a flamenco dancing astronaut, an awe inspiring claw machine, and a wise
cracking potato have in common? Toy Story , of course! All three examples
combined quite unique and disparate traits into what became colorful, humorous, and
impactful scenes in the movie series. You might liken any of these to our Jr. Beta
Club: we are unique and colorful, humorous (perhaps even in times when we shouldn
t be), but committed to making an impact in our school and community. We take our
dissimilar traits and combine them into strengths. Even though Toy Storyis, at its
surface, just a children s cartoon, each of the three films hold very powerful moral
lessons that can be applied to leadership in our Jr. Beta Club. Above and beyond the
colorful anecdotes and funny moments, the movies have powerful lessons that can

Essay about D. H. Lawrence s The Rocking-Horse Winner
D. H. Lawrence s The Rocking Horse Winner
The Rocking Horse Winner is a short story by D. H. Lawrence in which he creates a
criticism of the modernized world s admiration and desire for material objects. It
was published in Harper s Bazaar magazine in 1926 for the first time (E Notes). The
story s main character, Hester, is a beautiful woman who is completely consumed
by the idea of possession, and so she loses out on the love of family and the
happiness of life. Her son, Paul, also learns to love wealth because of his negligent
mother, constantly hearing the whispers of empty pockets in their home. D. H.

Obsessed with her unluckiness, she neglects her children who are constantly
exposed to the cold, emptiness of their mother s heart. She is unable to love
anything but the money she cannot attain. Her oldest child, Paul, forced to deal
with this bitter treatment the longest, becomes obsessed with money as well, but
as an attempt to win the interest of his mother. Absorbed, taking no heed of other
people, he went about with a sort of stealth, seeking inwardly for luck (Lawrence
483). He rides into a trance on his rocking horse until he is killed by this urgency to
find a winner. He wants to be lucky so badly. He wants to be the best, something his
mother and father believed they could never be. He needs the money so that his
house will stop screaming and his mother will love him.
The role of money is merely to buy attention. Hester wants to use it to buy
acceptance in the higher classes, and Paul wants to use it to buy his mother s
affection. The attention the characters seek is only superficial, however. The
attention is based on outward signs of prosperity. Hester s family is considered the
best on the block because everything they own looks rich and expensive, but they
are in great debt. Hester s compassion for Paul is also based on this money presents
are the only things that show her love. This never stops Hester from pushing for
more luxuries in an attempt to win this false admiration. Of course, in the end, Hester
s vanity will cost them
Primary Educational Disparities And Education
There are several primary educational disparities that arise when race and income are
considered. These gaps are due to the notion that the majority of minorities live in
low income areas that have underfunded public schools. Schools in impoverished
areas tend to have fewer educational resources such as supplies, funding, amenities,
and college preparatory classes. However, students living in povertyrequire more
intensive resources..., and many schools in poor neighborhoods lack the...resources to
break the nexus between student background characteristics and student achievement
(Nielsen, 2013). Since race has already been found to be a significant factor in college
readiness, poor racial minorities face a more complex disadvantage than their higher
income or white counterparts. Concentrated poverty further prevents minorities from
rising in economic status. With such a large population of minority children attending
underfunded schools, they are learning in environment that hinders their ability to
complete higher education. Additionally, students who live in low income areas
typically attend schools with higher poverty rates; thus, those students are not as
equally prepared for college. Lack of funding and resources in poorer schools
prevents students from learning the advanced math, reading, science, and social skills
needed to be prepared for higher education. This gap in resources provides a means
for the students of provincial schools to have a further breach
Australian Stereotype
Representations of the Australian Persona
В‘Mateship
A key element of what is presented to be the Australian character is that of
camaraderie, base friendliness towards everybody, and egalitarianism, the belief that
everybody is equal and should have the same opportunities, treatment, etc. as
everybody else. As such, Australians are very supportive of democracy, compulsory
voting, and are generally, in most cases, unprejudiced towards each other based on
such trivialities as, for example, social class В– everybody will kick back together at

Australian casual English, like African American speech, is one of the most
complex forms of English slang, and not always so easy to understand. Phrases such
as G day Mate and Chuck a shrimp on the barbie are well known internationally as
being В‘Australian , having been made popular by Paul Hogan s representation in the
1986 internationally highest grossing film Crocodile Dundee. Numerous examples of
the frequent use of common Australian slang can be found in the six book series

in Australia s heritage as a convict colony В– a majority of the people that
Confederation Independence
Declaring Independence from Great Britain left the United States dismantled and in
need of structure. During the Revolutionary war the continental congress wrote the
Articles of Confederation to regulate the colonies as a national government. Lasting
no more than 4 years the Articles of Confederation lacked any sufficient power to
keep the country united as one and protected with a national army or navy. As each
state was formed they began to act out against each other in self interest. With no
power to regulate commerce between states, the states were free to establish their
own commerce rules that would most often impact other states negatively. Without a
way to properly enforce laws and taxation through a national court system, laws were

Soon there was sufficient interest from the states to arrange an official meeting in
Philadelphia to change the Articles of Confederation. During the 5 months that the
delegates met in secrecy they worked together to create a checks and balance
system to prevent any abuse of power. Resulting in the government s power split
between three very different branches of government from part of the Virginia plan
called the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Under this adopted plan
congress was given the power to veto laws passed by the state legislature and protect
the harmony of the United States. The delegates of the Constitutional Convention
came to what is known as The Great Comprise by adopting a two house legislature.
This compromise gave proportional representation to the House of Representatives
and equal representation to the senate and established that three out of five slaves
would be included in state s critical headcount. Another measure to balance power in
the legislator, the delegates created the Electoral College as a way to elect the
president and vice president. On September 17, 1787 George Washington declared the
Constitutional Convention had come to an end and they had completed writing the
constitution. Needing the approval of only nine states the ratification of the
constitution created many debates between the Federalist and Anti Federalist about
how and why the country would benefit from this new government structure. By June
25, 1788 the constitution had sufficient votes to become the new form of
government. The newly adopted constitution allowed for the national government to
regulate commerce and establish common laws between the states ensuring growth in
unity as a nation. With the proper governmental organization put in place, westward
expansion was the main

Media vs. Parenting Essay
Media vs. Parenting
What impact does sex, violence, drugs, etc. in the media have on children? What can
we do about it? How do we balance the tension between freedom of expression and
the need to protect children? When you talk about the media and whether or not it is
harmful on children, you must examine the whole industry and all aspects of its
effects on children. It is that the media as a whole is not as harmful to children as
some intense other can, but over exposure to certain aspects of certain types of
media can be harmful. To say that all media can be harmful to children is a fallacy
that must be avoided when examining this topic. Most people when analyzing this

books while growing up. Graff discovered something that provided reading to be
more appealing. He engaged himself into the text where reading became fun.
Growing up Graff was raised in an ethnically mixed Chicago neighborhood where
he feared that if he had anything to do with books, he would get beaten up. Graff,
however, would sit down and try to read novels, but he could not relate to any of
the text, he would just stare blankly at the pages. Later Graff s fear developed into
flunking college. Graff then discovered a new way of reading finding a way to
make reading fun. Graff put himself into the text, a sense of personal engagement.
The main point in Graff s article is to read at an angle and keep an open mind
while being patient. Graff s goal throughout the article was to keep an open mind
while reading. In addition to reading with an angle, you can discover your way to
connect with the text while in doing so stay patient. While we read his article, we
should see his perseverance, and this should encourage us to want to strive and find
different ways of learning, to discover how to make texts more exciting to us.
Through all of this Graff now has an advantage over other... Show more content on

This will give you the desire to want to learn and engage in the texts. Gerald Graff
emphasized in his article the importance of patience. Even though Graff struggled
with reading and with no desire to read he did not give up. He discovered a way
that he found interest in, and He would debate among the authors. Graff looked at
reading as by questioning the text and arguing over it, this helped Graff become more
confident in his intellectual voice this caused him to be less

Incorporating Tibetan Buddhism into Modern Psychotherapy
As the world moves into the twenty first century, Western civilizations are witnessing
a surge of new technology, ideas and economic success. Urbanization is spreading
rapidly and Western society s push for progression is becoming more apparent.
However, this obsession with advancement has begun to take its toll on the happiness
of the citizens. Studies have shown that in 2002, up to 13 percent of U.S. citizens
suffered from mental disorders and that this number has only increased since then
(Rinpche 60). As a result of our push for new technology, more techniques and
medication are evolving and being used in psychotherapy. We must, however, wonder

To prove the benefits of incorporating Buddhist philosophies into Western
psychotherapy, I will examine three specific Buddhist ideas: the connection of
experience and meaning, the idea of emptiness and the loss of the ego, and the true
nature of the mind.
In order to examine the benefits of incorporating Buddhist ideas for psychotherapy
patients, we must first move past the common Western idea that Buddhism is too
culture bound and religious oriented to be incorporated into Western societies.
While many Eastern cultures do consider Buddhism as their primary religion, the
philosophies behind the religious practices are psychologically based (Michalon
203). The Dalai Lama, one of the Buddhists primary religious leaders, agreed to
this when he sad, It is possible for people to adopt various Buddhist meditative
techniques or mental training without being a Buddhist (Gay 172). It is of no
threat to the religion of any psychotherapy patient to be able to understand and
incorporate Buddhist ideas into his or her way of life. In order to progress to a
happier lifestyle, we must be able to open our minds to examine other philosophies
and how we may benefit from them. Tibetan Buddhism offers a very philosophical
approach to a happier and more compassionate way of thinking.

The French Religious Wars Of France
In this paper, I will be discussing the French Religious Wars that took place on
March 1582 and lasted till April 1598. This war was fought between the Roman
Catholics or Catholic League and the Huguenots. These wars started with a French
protestant by the name of John Calvin started to become suspicious of the Roman
Catholic churches and their corruption within their government. Calvin believed that
the two should be separated and created a doctrine with a different form of
Protestantism. Higher up religious figures that were fed up with the dominance of
the Catholic churches decided to stand behind this doctrine. Eventually, Calvinism
was being accepted and taught throughout the local civilians and spread like
wildfire throughout Europe. As Catholic churches started to fall victim to this
movement, King Henrii II of France decided to attempt to end this movement as it
was a threat to his reign and control. Thus, divided the country and started what is
known as the French Religious Wars. As tensions became to rise, so did the
Conspiracy of Ambroise. This is which the Huguenots and the House of Bourbon
plotted to usurp the power of the Guise family . (lllll) The Guise family was the
family in charge of most of the French government at the time. After the family
started to realize what was happening, they became to kill hundreds of conspirators.
Trying to ease all of this hostility, Catherine de Medici issued a doctrine known as
the Edict of Tolerance in 1562. This

As the camera travels throughout the house other characters are introduced such as
Susy s parents. The mom and dad sits in a separate room and are not seen bonding
as a married couple would. The portrayal of both characters convey a disunion and
separation between both individuals and the other members of the house. The young
boys eat together, the dad reads a newspaper, and motherfiles her nails all while Susy
observes through her binoculars. The actions of these individuals tells viewers that
the familylacks a connection. Although they are a family each member is secluded
from one another. When Susy makes her appearance in a scene she stands in center

Lionel and the two other boys display minimal facial expressions since they are
attentive to the games of ping pong and airplanes. A long shot of a young boy in
the hallway exposes his position, the hands in hips and shrugged eyebrows covey
an angered expression. Since he is looking directly into the camera it intensifies the
scene by making it appear more dramatic. The intensity minimizes when the other
young boy peaks through the door which establishes some humor and exposes his
silly personality. A close up on Susy near the window captures her reaction when
reading her book. The close up casts an attached shadow which emphasized her
concentrated facial expression, this articulates her enthusiasm for books or reading
in general. As the camera zooms out in that scene Suzy s appearance minimizes,
again this foreshadows her isolation within the household but perhaps within a
larger context as well. Susy is however seen carrying a cat in multiple scene which
suggests that the only close relationship she maintains is with her cat, this becomes
evident later in the film once she has run away from home. In the short opening
scene of the film it becomes very clear that the family is very grave, never do they
appear to smile or laugh. The lack of enthusiasm within the household sets a gloomy
ambiance which is symmetric to the mood of the

What is pho? Well Pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup, but there are two type of

Bo is beef broth and that is made by the stewing of a cow bones in a large pot for

This led to various sectarian strifes among the countries in the Middle East. Since
Russia started bombing, they have mostly targeted anti Assad rebels, rather than ISIL
which they stated they were bombing. I propose to include Russia in the current
coalition, led by the United States, which also include Australia, Bahrain, Canada,
France, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United
Kingdom. There will have to be negotiations in order to get Russia to cooperate so
they do not go rogue and bomb targets that are supported by the West and other
countries in the coalition. By having Russia in the coalition and working with the
United States, there will be a greater oversight of their operations and more
transparency among the nations. This will help with making strategic attacks so
ISIL can be degraded and destroyed and also so the Assad regime will finally
relinquish power to a democratic government. There also must be targeted strikes
upon ISIL s main sources of income: oil reserves. Although this may harm potential
future capabilities of Syria or Iraq to drill for oil, it will severely disrupt the income
of ISIL so that they will not be able to buy the resources necessary to fight against the

Biblical And Gilgamesh Flood Comparison
Flood Gates
There are many different reason things occur. Comparing the Biblical flood to the
Ancient Mesopotamian flood is one of those strange things that occurred. The
Biblical flood was to destroy humankind because of their sinful ways. Mesopotamian
flood was used to punish mankind for their actions. The two floods came from two
different historic timing. The two floods have several similarities and differences.
The Biblical and Gilgamesh flood have several things they have in common. The
hero s characters in each story were righteous men. Noah represents a church. Noah
and his family had spiritual beliefs and practices. Noah and his family listen to God.
In both floods, God is punishing rebellious mankind. In the book of Genesis, God
flood the earth because of humankind sinful ways. God instructed Noah, 12 God
saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted
their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, I am going to put an end to all people, for the
earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both
them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it
and coat it with pitch inside and out. (Genesis 6:9 12 14) Noah built an ark and him
and his family would be saved from the flood. Utnapishtim name
meant finder of life. With the Gilgamesh flood, god Enlil told Utnapishtim in a
dream to build a big boat. Him and his family would be saved from the flood also.

The Negative Effects Of Multitasking
Multitasking has become a large phenomenon in everyday life. Many people claim to
be great multitaskers, but is that really the case? According to some experts,
multitasking, especially when evolving technology, can actually have negative effects
on performance and awareness. Thus, we set out to test how well students, the
population that seems most effected by multitasking, could multitask when being
timed. Using basic instruments like quarters, cards, a timer, and a survey, we created
an experiment that simulated some of the difficulties of multitasking, and measured
the amount of time it took people to do multiple things at a time. The results
demonstrated that overall, doing more than one thing at a time, is both time
consuming, and requires more active thinking.
Multitasking and Its Effects on Everyday Life People have always wanted to be
able to get things done quicker. Whether it be a student wanting to finish a paper,
while making plans so that they can go hang out with their friends, or a worker
wanting to finish a task, but finish setting up lunch plans with other coworkers so
that they can relax and take a break, people are constantly looking for ways of saving
time and doing more than one thing at once. However, with all of this search for an
answer of ways to multitask comes another question, is multitasking beneficial? How
can multitasking be bad? With the invention of cellphones, and particularly
smartphones, more and more people are finding themselves
Theme Of Flowers In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
One of the most universal symbols of beauty is the flower. Their delicate buds hold
such great beauty, while being so fragile and temporary. Despite their magnificence,
flowers must remain stationary. It is a prison, yet no one thinks beyond the
simplicity of a pretty flower. Like women, flowers are seen at face value without
any concern for the lack of freedom, opportunity, and expression they have. Women
are meant to be seen just how society expects and not any other way. In Chronicle of
a Death Foretold, female characters face the serious consequences of societal
expectations and views on sexuality. Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses the motif of
flowers to symbolize women and their virginity to demonstrate the confinement of
women in society.
The author Marquez uses character names to illustrate the societal preference of
virginity. For example, the character Flora Miguel, who enjoyed a certain floral
quality, is named after flowers (66). By using curious diction with the word certain,
Marquez points to an almost undefinable yet intriguing feature. Since the narrator is a
man, it demonstrates male interest in women s sexuality. Because the author says it
is due to floral quality, the interest comes from virginity specifically. Further proving
the value of virginity, Divina Flor exemplifies this ideal. Divina Flor is not simply
named after flowers, but rather her name has a more specific meaning. When
translated to English, her name means divine flower. Marquez names her

that the Louisiana law implied any inferiority of blacks, in violation of the Fourteenth

party to enforce a rule requiring all voters in its primary to be white. At this point in
history, the Republican Party was so weak in the South that most Southern elections
were decided by the outcome of the Democratic primary. Southern States claimed that
the Democratic Party was a private organization, while Smith said that the law in

What Is The Meaning Of Savagery In Lord Of The Flies
As said by Lance Conrad, There is an undercurrent of savagery in the human
psyche. Anyone who forgets about this and doesn t guard against it, risks being
swept away by it. This quote, amongst many others, represents the overall idea that
savagery is within all of us. In pieces of literature, subjects such as savagery are
often shown through symbols. Symbols are consistently used throughout our daily
lives as well as pieces of literature. For example, colors generally represent different
moods/things. Black represents evil, white stands for purity, red symbolizes danger,
and blue represents calmness. Other general objects include roses that stand for
romance, doves for peace, hearts for romance, and eagles for freedom. In Lord of the
Flies by William Golding, the author utilizes a conchshell to symbolically show the
loss of civilization throughout a period of time. At first, the conch shell united the
group of boys, maintaining civility, but once it was destroyed, so was civility. Jack
s Mask symbolically represented savagery throughout all parts of the story. In the
beginning, it allowed Jack to murder the pig without feeling guilty, towards the
middle, it gave him further confidence to maintain and rule, and in the end, it
liberated the boys into savagery. First of all, Jack ghosts his morals by painting on a
mask. The maskallowed Jack to ignore his connections to civilized society, allowing
him to easily kill a pig. The author explains, The mask was a thing of its

Title IX, enacted in 1972, requires all entities receiving federal funds to provide
equal opportunities to both genders. A Title IX complaint was filed against Chico
Unified, and the OCR made several allegations of non compliance.
Title IX is broken into three areas (participation, financial assistance, and treatment of
athletes). The OCR did not allege non compliance pertaining financial assistance, as
Chico does not offer athletic scholarships. Conversely, The OCR made several
allegations under the areas of participation and treatment of athletes. Below the
allegations are separated into the two categories, followed by the OCR s reasoning,

To prove compliance by prong three, a school must conduct viable surveys of all
female students. In 2005, the Bush administration determined that unanswered
emails can be considered as a lack of interest. However, the OCR values a survey with
high participation rates, compared to low (NIAAA, p.112 114, 2011).
Response Strategies/Best Practices
An adequate survey must be conducted. An adequate survey requires impartially
worded questions, and a high participation percentage.
Suggest finding a time to conduct the survey in person, as opposed to emailing a
survey.
Suggest raising the number of roster spots on girls teams. For example, all girls
basketball rosters should have 15 athletes.
Efforts should be made to add one girl team sport. The sport should be determined
based upon both survey results and the practicality of adding the sport. Practicality
should be determined by ability to compete, ability to obtain resources and hire
coaches, and the ability to maintain a program long term.
Treatment of athletes
Allegations:
Disparity in the quality of facilities for boys and girls teams. The OCR found that
the softball field is below the quality of the baseball field.

Reggae is most easily recognized by the rhythmic accents on the off beat, usually
played by guitar or piano (or both), known as the skank. This pattern accents the

So if you re counting in 4/4 time and counting 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +, you would play a
down stroke on the and part of the beat. A musical figure known as skank or the
bang .has a very dampened, short and scratchy chop sound, almost like a percussion
instrument. Sometimes a double chop is used when the guitar still plays the off
beats, but also plays the following 8th beats on the up stroke.
Horn sections are frequently used in reggae, often playing introductions and counter
melodies. Instruments included in a typical reggae horn section include saxophone,
trumpet or trombone. In more recent times, real horns are sometimes replaced in
reggae by synthesizers or recorded samples. The horn section is often arranged
around the first horn, playing a simple melody or counter melody. The first horn is
usually accompanied by the second horn playing the same melodic phrase in unison,
one octave higher. The third horn usually plays the melody an octave and a fifth
higher than the first horn. The horns are generally played fairly softly, usually
resulting in a soothing sound. However, sometimes punchier, louder phrases are
played for a more up tempo and aggressive sound.
Harmonically, the music is essentially the same as any modern popular genre with
a tendency to make use of simple modal chord progressions. For example: I bVII7
and I ii iii ii are both common progressions in reggae and both examples of the kind
of chord structures used in modal jazz.

Aquinas Relation Between The Body And Soul
Aquinas on the relation between the body and soul
In Summa theologiae Ia, q. 75, Aquinas combines both Platonic and Aristotelian
notions of the soul in responding to a question on the unity of the human soul and the
body. He supports Aristotelianism in describing a human being as composed of both
matter and form. Here he suggests that a human being has both the soul, which is the
essence of human existence and matter, which is the actualization of the human
existence.
However, when it comes to the status of the soul after death, he supports the
Augustinian notion of the separation of body and soul upon death and the continued
existence of the soul after death. Combining both Plato and Aristotle helps him to
describe how a human mind functions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soul is different from the body in that it is able to communicate with the divine
and see things that are beyond human senses. The soul therefore has a specific
function in connecting the body with the divine as well as running bodily functions.
Athanasius instead argues that the fall of man is a real thing that happens to a living
body, which voluntarily decides to allow its thoughts to wander away from doing
good and falls for the material world hence its punishment is to be sent away from
paradise.
Athanasius therefore argues that recreation is simply the restoration of man in the
image of God. Man sinned and lost the image of God and therefore he needs to be
restored to take this image again. Incarnation therefore finds a great meaning in man
s life since it serves this purpose. That is, to restore the relationship between God and
man.Through the incarnate Christ, man is able to come closer to God and is saved.

Technological Advancements In Criminal Investigations
If this study was conducted today I believe that the conclusions would be somewhat
the same as the findings back then. With the technological advancements of cell
phones, Global Positioning Systems, the 911 system and computers today, police
response times have been greatly reduced. This allows for the greater possibility of
capturing an offender at or nearby the scene. This also allows for not only police
response times to be decreased but also response times for other first responders that
provide lifesaving first aid. With the advancements in forensics the greater chance of
catching a criminal after the fact has been greatly improved which allows for the
police to be more reactive when a crimehas finally been discovered. With police
departments designing precincts in a more efficient manner and utilizing Intelligence
Led Policing, Predictive Policing or Compstat to properly allocate resources
provides for preventative patrols to be accomplished while also being able to be
reactive in nature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time when the study was completed, criminals were in fear of the police
capturing them during the commission of a crime. However today, criminals are
much more brazen in committing crimes even with police presence. With the ease
for criminals to obtain a firearm, many more criminals possess a firearm during the
commission of crimes and are not afraid to use that firearm against police. Even
though preventative patrols are still being accomplished in policing today, the
findings of the study that preventative patrols do not reduce the amount of criminal
activity would be much the same as back
Analysis Of The Movie The Ghost Of The Shell Trailer
Since the beginning of media, producers have created products that applied to the
biggest audience. Unreliable political and current event information and bias leads to
underrepresentation of various ethnicities and identities. Mass media coverage
portrays figures that appeals to the larger audience, hence, isolating others.
The Ghost In The Shell trailer was released on Nov. 13 2016 and featured Scarlet
Johansson a white actress. The film is based on the Japanese manga series of the
same name. The protagonist, Major Kusanagi is simply referred to as The Major and
erases the identity of the main character. To justify the casting choice, screenwriter
Max Landis stated: There are no A list female Asian celebrities right now on an...

And although I wasn t sure if it was going to resonate with him, I took him anyway.
When Diego Luna s character came on screen and started speaking, my dad nudged
me and said, he has a heavy accent. I was like, Yup. When the film was over and we
were walking to the car, he turns to me and says, did you notice that he had an
accent? And I said, Yeah dad, just like yours. Then my dad asked me if the film
had made a lot of money. I told him it was the second highest grossing film of 2016
despite it only being out for 18 days in 2016 (since new year just came around). He
then asked me if people liked the film, I told him that it had a huge following
online and great reviews. He then asked me why Diego Luna hadn t changed his
accent and I told him that Diego has openly talked about keeping his accent and
how proud he is of it. And my dad was silent for a while and then he said, And he
was a main character. And I said, He was. And my dad was so happy. As we drove
home he started telling me about other Mexican actors that he thinks should be in
movies in America. Representation matters.[9]
Normalizing a diverse cast in film can often begin to gently lift the minority labels.
From 2007 2012, only 12.4 percent of speaking characters in the top 500 grossing
films were played by black actors. Although one might think that is fair, given that
African Americans make up 12.6 percent of the population, the
Alien Invasions In The Iron Giant
Imagine waking up on a seemingly normal morning to the sound of screams coming
from the streets, and the unsettling feeling of dread lingering in the air. Harsh, bright
lights shine through your window and local news stations report a startling
disturbances taking place throughout the entire town. It is then that you realize there
has been an alien invasion of Earth. This strange situation leads humans to pose the
following question: what is the appropriate response to an alien invasion? People
often question the legitimacy of extraterrestrial life, but, if the earth does encounter
life forces from another world, how should people react? In the science fictiongenre,
alien invasions are a recurrent theme, but, although they may be entertaining,... Show

One significant factor to consider is the alien s technological advancements, which
are likely much greater than ours. Further, it is important to remember that these
organisms probably won t share many similarities with us physically or mentally.
They may not share our senses of sight, hearing, or touch, and they could use some
form of communication that is currently inconceivable to us. No matter what the
traits of these aliens may be, history has shown that just because something may not
look or act the same as us, does not mean they need to be a threat to us. It may be
challenging to control the media or to calm the public, but, no matter the danger
potential of the aliens, this may be one of the highest priorities. History has also
shown us that propaganda and fear can be extremely powerful in influencing the
behavior of the public. This has the opportunity to result in tragedy, but it would be
easily controlled by calming the media. Of course, the alien invasion should be
handled with heavy precaution, and officials should be mindful as they consider the
full magnitude of possibilities when it comes to interactions with unknown life
Analysis Of We Wear The Mask
The title of Dunbar s We Wear the Mask (1896) emphasizes the essential idea of the
poem, which is deception and illusion. The title is repeated in all three stanzas. This
tells the reader to keep the title in mind while reading the poem. The persona of
Dunbar is conveyed to the reader in first person, which has a strong contributed to the
message of the poem along with the rhythm and word choice. It shows the repulsive
worldDunbar lives in and the masking of his own true emotions throughout the poem.
Dunbar s emotional appeal enhances every mood in the poem from the need to hide
the true self, to the deep sorrow behind the mask, and to connecting the mask to how
humans must lie.
In the first stanza, Dunbar uses irony to express what the mask symbolizes. The
mask can represent several things from someone hiding behind a false expression
to the things people say and do that aren t honest. The main point of the poem
which describes the mask as a grin, but can lie . It hides our cheeks and shades our
eyes (Line 2) gives the reader a mental picture with the use of imagery. As well, the
extra spacing at the beginning of line two emphasizes the word hiding . This mask
hides its own existence, of agonizing misery and hardship. Many people put it on to
fit into society. When Dunbar says, With torn and bleeding hearts we smile , (Line
4) it explains the worldly power of the mask. The debt we pay to human guile, (Line
3) means the unhappiness they feel is related to them deceiving others. Both lines are
hyperboles that emphasize the struggle behind the mask. The figurative language not
only shows the theme of discernment, but shows its impact. In addition, applying the
words, we and our gives the poem an all inclusive feel which creates an auxiliary
meaning.
In the second stanza, Dunbar asks a rhetorical question to prove a point. One should
not let others make them suffer by hiding all feelings and emotions from society.
When he says, Why should the world be overwise, / In counting all our tears and
sighs? (Line 6 7), it contradicts the idea that this poem is universal with the phrase the
world . Throughout the poem, the time frame of the publication does not shift the
poem at all. But one would
Outline The Cyclic Nature Of The Sun
The sun produces three types of emissions that reach Earth electromagnetic radiation,
solar wind, and neutrinos.
The sun produces electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths, with the visible
spectrum being the most intense wavelength range produced as the radiation peaks at
this area of the EM spectrum. The Earth s atmosphere absorbs most of this radiation
but light and radio waves are able to penetrate the atmosphere, as well as short
wavelength infrared rays and long wavelength microwaves. X rays and gamma rays
are absorbed by the Earth s upper atmosphere.

some atomic nuclei. It is produced by the hydrogen fusion reactions at the Sun s core

Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed the idea that the Earth was fixed at the centre
of the Universe and that the other planets were embedded in a series of concentric
crystalline spheres surrounding the Earth. He proposed that 56 different crystalline
spheres rotated about the Earth at different rates. Each planet, the Sun, and the moon
were in their own sphere surrounding the Earth, and the stars were placed on the
largest sphere surrounding everything else.
About two centuries after Aristotle, Hipparchus showed that the model better
predicted the motion of the heavens if the Earth was placed slightly off the centre of
rotation of the celestial spheres. Apollonius also proposed that the planets changed
their speed through the heavens and sometimes stopped and travelled backwards.
This particular model of the universe mainly evolved around Aristotle s observational
evidence of the time in which he lived, which supported the idea demonstrated in the
model. In this theory, the motion of things naturally moves to the centre of the Earth
and the only way to separate from it was to have a force applied to the
Sarcasm Study
Abstract: Sarcasm is the use of irony to mean the opposite of what is being said.
Adults are able to identify sarcasm using two distinct cue; context and intonation
(change in tone of an individual s voice). However, are children able to identify these
cues and used them to determine sarcasm? And at what age do children have the
ability to distinguish sarcasm from everyday speech? Children 8 12 years of age were
put through two experiments to determine whether they are able to use context and
intonation to identify sarcasm. At the end of the experiment it was determined that
the children relied on intonation to identify sarcasm and when intonation was not
present they were unable to determine whether or not the character was being
sarcastic.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pexman in the article How Do Typically Developing Children Grasp The Meaning
Of Verbal Irony? designed an experiment that allowed individuals to understand the
age range in which children are able to distinguish and understand the concept of
sarcasm. The experiment consisted of 70 participants (36 male, 34 female)
ranging from the ages of 6 10 years. In this experiment twenty four puppets, who
were dressed to resemble children, were used as characters in a puppet show.
Twelve puppet shows were presented each ending with either an ironic, literal,
ironic compliment, or literal compliment. The puppet show went as follows: This
is Sam, and this is John. They play on the same soccer team. It is the last few
minutes of a game. Outcome 1: John kicks the ball, scoring a goal. Sam says: That
was a great play! (Literal compliment) or Sam says: That was a terrible play!
(Ironic compliment) Outcome 2: John kicks the ball, missing a goal. Sam says:
That was a great play! (Ironic criticism) or Sam says: That was a terrible play!
(Literal criticism). (Pexman, 2006) These shows were set up in a way where the
main character did not participate in any of the actions (ex: playing soccer) but
always complimented/criticized the characters who did. The narratives of the puppet
show were also prerecorded in order to ensure that the criticism made were done in a
mocking/insincere tone. After watching the plays the children were asked to rate the
main character/speakers
Examples Of Morality In The Lady With The Dog
Morality in Shades
Colour is in the art and the art is literature. Often, one depicts morality the concept of
shades: a color scheme that involves the gradation from lightest to darkest, which in
most case, is white to black. In such scale, the shades white and black represent two
contrasting extremes as they parallel the idea of morality, where white is right and
black is wrong. However, the complication arises at the area between the white and
black: the grey. The grey area possesses no absolute verdict, for one can be both
morally right and wrong. Russian realist Anton Chekhov implements such perception
as he colours the story with white, black, and grey. An exploration of The Lady with
The Dog serves to examine his employment of colour ... Show more content on

Although the concept of morality in shades should not particularly be alien to the
reader, Chekhov does provide an interesting take on morality for instance, that he
believes love, or feelings, to be an important factor of human morale which he
expresses using the colours white, black, and grey. However, the reader should not
expect to learn about morals through this story, as everyone possesses his or her own
opinion, but rather should reconsider what they value is right and wrong. The
exploration of colour in The Lady with The Dog proves insightful in understanding
the author s perspective towards morale of actions, even though Chekhov does not
entertain the reader with an absolute verdict. Colour is in the art and the art is
literature; what this exploration reveals is only just one shade of the
Indus Valley Religion

humans in the past civilizations to now. The Indus valley has many connections
between religion and culture, and due to many events, it led a decline in the
civilization. The civilization worshiped many gods, goddesses, and animals. Religion
and culture are connected to the Indus Valley Civilization, by having a polytheistic
belief system and it being made up of Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. The Hindu
religious practices, were mainly based off the Indus valley. The Indus valley has and

a father god, animals, and a main mother goddess. Also, there are some seals that

Using Technology to Cheat
Abstract Technology is growing at an exponential rate; this presents many challenges
and advantages to online and campus students alike. The potential and ability to
cheat is greatly increased. In the days before this technology boom answers were

Fast forward past the Y2K hysteria and you ll find that the modern student is now
using small electronic devices to cheat while taking tests in the classroom. (Leake,
1995)These devices range from handheld Personal Digital Assistants (PDA),
portable music players such as the Apple iPod, cell phones equipped with blue
tooth hands free transmitters and camera as well as miniature storage devices
capable of transmitting large amounts of data quickly without notice. The student
of today is not technically illiterate as their parents once were. They are techno
geeks capable of doing pretty much anything they have their hearts set on. It has
been documented for students to record notes for playback using their iPods while
in class. Cell phones have been used to communicate with students and
accomplices located in the library whereby answers can be researched. Digital
cameras on cell phones can take exact copies of test material to be posted on the
internet for all to see. In 2005, a 17 year old student in Sugarland, Texas placed a
keystroke logger onto a teacher s computer and recorded everything that was typed.
(Boone, 2007) This included the teacher s password and allowed the student to steal
and sell the teacher s test until he was caught and charged with a misdemeanor. (APA

Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost is a poem about Adam and Eve, how they were created and how they
came to lose their place in the Garden of Eden, which was also called Paradise. It is
very similar to the book of Genesis in the Bible, except it is expanded by John
Milton into a very long, detailed, narrative poem with a different view of Satan. Even
though he leads a war against God, is sent to hell, and seeks revenge throughout the
poem h still ends up being a very likable character.
In Paradise Lost I think that Milton s character Satan may be considered one of the
most complex characters and is always changing. Of course at first he comes off as
a very evil guy, who had a strong thirst for vengeance and liked to wreak havoc. Even
though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or at least that is what Satan wants the readers to believe!
Satan is proven to be a tricky and clever character in most stories that he is talked
about in. Even in the movie Devil s Advocate. The movie was good with a great
amount of suspense, and kind of gives a real outlook of the Satan and how he
works. The movie is about Satan and sin. The point of the movie and the poem was
not to glorify sin but exposes it and all the devious things the devil would do or has
done. But it also shows the consequences of sin. Just like Paradise Lost The Devil s
Advocate shows Satan is filled with vanity, greed, and lust who is a great deceiver
and knows how to twists words and meanings. The movie is a modern re
interpretation of the poem, I also think it is pretty cool that the Devil in the film is
name John Milton.
Overall I think in the poem Paradise Lost Satan s character was meant to be more
attractive to the readers so they would also be seduced by his ways. His character
was meant to be more liked then he usually is in things such as the Bible. He was
not necessarily meant to be looked at as the hero, but he was described in such a
way that it tempted the readers to like him. Just like Satan lured people in and
made them do the wrong things Milton lured in his readers to like Satan. He did
such a great job that I felt sorry for Satan. But he also made us see everything from
Satan view. Which basically
Gang Analysis
While there is no one definition, criminologists have agreed to define gangs via six
characteristics that are expected to make up a gang. A self formed association of
peers is the first characteristic of a gang, it includes a group of peers who choose to
form up to acquire what they otherwise couldn t without the gangs formation.
Secondly, gangs are bound by mutual interests that they strive for together. Third, well
developed lines of authority and other organizational features with clear distinctions
between leaders and members and their different roles. Next, is working together as a
group to achieve a specific purpose and be successful without being caught.
Penultimately, gangs involve criminal activity, committing crimes and engaging in
delinquency. Lastly, gangs control a particular territory as their own as a way to
show dominance and increase in power.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A traditional gang has regenerated for decades; therefore, it is old and big with a wide
age range. Examples of traditional gangs are the Crips and Bloods, two of the most
well known and territorial gangs in the nation. Due to their age and massive
territories, traditional gangs tend to have cliques/subgroups inside the gang.
Traditional gangs are highly structured and are kept in line by leaders as well as
clearly identified rules and punishments. Meanwhile, compressed gangs have a
narrow age range with most gang members being adolescents. Compressed gangs
are also smaller than traditional gangs with only 50 to 100 gang members.
Compressed gangs also lack the age and experience of traditional gangs but can
eventually achieve traditional status if they don t break apart or

Search Warrants and Probable Cause Essay Search Warrants and Probable Cause Training Search Warrants and Probable Cause Training Welcome to the Federal Agent/Law enforcement combined in service training. Over the next two weeks we will be spending time with our fellow agents as well as local officers in this refresher course. The federal agency takes pride in making sure that their agents are top notch in training and being properly informed on laws and expectations. Search warrants and the Fourth Amendment Let s start with what a search warrant is and how we can obtain one. A search warrant is a legal order that is signed by a judge or magistrate to give police officers the authorization to search a person or place for evidence. Search warrants allow you to search at a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Rutledge (2010), in a 1949 opinion, the court said this about probable cause, The rule of probable cause is a practical, nontechnical conception. In dealing with probable cause, we deal with probabilities. These are not technical; they are the factual and practical considerations of everyday life on which reasonable and prudent men, not legal technicians, act. Probable cause exists where the facts and circumstances within the officers knowledge and of which they have reasonably trustworthy information are sufficient in themselves to warrant a man of reasonable caution in the belief that an offense has been or is being committed. (Brinegar v. U.S.). (Police Magazine, (2010) В¶ 5). Probable cause must be supported by factual evidence, not just speculation. Some sources of probable cause are strong enough to stand alone, where others need supplemented by other sources. Types of warrantless searches There are many types or reasons for a warrantless, which is when there is no need for a search warrant or even no probable cause. These types of searches have become the most common in law enforcement. The decision based on warrantless searches is based on the court s decision and the logic that there was criminal suspicion to warrant the search. Many everyday searches that are warrantless, which we need to be familiar with, are at airports, government buildings,

The company s business model was to generate high sales volumes and rapid inventory turnover by offering members low prices on a limited selection of nationally branded and select private label products in a wide range of merchandise categories (Thompson, p. C 35). This analysis will review the cornerstones of Costco s strategy; low prices, a limited product line, limited selection and a treasure hunt shopping environment (p. C 35). • 6. The Killer Angels Analysis During the American Civil War, the worst battle was the battle of Gettysburg. During the battle the Union and the Confederacy collectively lost over 51,000 men to either death, injury, or they were missing. Michael Shaara wrote The Killer Angels. The author goes into the story by telling why each of the major characters were fighting the war and their viewpoints. The author also tells the story though the letters and other documents and not using the historical opinions of the battle. The Commander of the Army of Northern Virginiais General Robert E. Lee. General Robert E. Lee at the time of the battle is 57 years of age. General Robert E. Lee does not own slaves nor does he believe in slavery, though he does not believe the Negro could be equal to the white man. He also often thought that the Confederacy and the Union were never really that different and had more in common than not. He also does not seem to have an opinion about slavery, but feels that it is a duty to fight for his country and not fight against it. He also plays a very critical role in securing victory for the Union during the battle. He holds hill tops during battles with the Confederacy, as the Union assembles in other key locations. The author makes John Buford seem like a real person by pointing out that even in the middle of a battle, he is thinking of his future and where he is going to retire. He is described as thinking about fishing in the south and beating the colder weather of the Midwest for the warmer weather in the south but, fears he will not be able to return to the south due to the
  • 7. Evolution Of Jerome By Jerome. Jerome Evolution of Jerome Jerome was a very admirable character in both the film and screenplay Gattaca ; there were times that he was the worst character and times he was the best. In this futuristic, dystopian society it is possible for someone to give his DNA to be used by another person. Jerome gives his DNA to Vincent, a person without perfect DNA like Jerome, and surrenders his former identify to become known as Eugene. Initially, with the complexities of the story focused on Vincent it is hard to really get connected to Jerome. Despite obviously being the main character as well, he was in the background so much that it was easy to get caught up in Vincent s character. As the story line progresses Jerome s role becomes much more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before they got into the apartment, the gene broker was telling Vincent about how Jerome was the healthiest and had the best genes that Vincent could find. He actually said: You could go everywhere, with this guy s helix tucked under your arm (26). So, when we are introduced to Jerome there were assumptions that he would be a macho man, but he shows up in a wheelchair and smoking. Our first meeting with Jerome was not anything overly exciting and he was very straight forward and wanted nothing to do with a personal relationship with Vincent. To him, this was all just a job and nothing else. The first big change in Jerome was when he and Vincent went out to eat to celebrate Vincent going into space. Jerome drank too much and Vincent helped him get into bed. When he was in bed, he had a moment of vulnerability when he admitted that he was completely sober when he tried to kill himself, I wasn t drunk when I walked in front of that car, and this wasn t really the plan. If at first you don t succeed, try, try again! Eugene pulls Jerome down to him and says I m proud of you Vincent (30). Vincent was startled from that encounter because Jerome never ever called Vincent by his birth name, he always told him he would go by the name of Jerome and that Jerome would be Eugene. If Vincent was going to be Jerome he had to get used to responding to it. This was when Vincent knew that Jerome was not as stable and together as he came off so it
  • 8. The Interlopers And Mending Wall Literary Analysis A holiday, or tradition is usually looked upon as times of happiness and a way to gather with loved ones, but it isn t always that way. Traditions are a part of most people s lives, and is really never seen as a negative connotation. Yet, there is always another side to the story. In the two pieces, The Interlopers and Mending Wall, tradition can be seen embedded in between the lines. The Interlopers features two men whose families have hated one another for generations, all over a piece of land that really has no value. The men find themselves bleeding out pinned under a large tree branch, where they die to wolves. In Mending Wall, another set of two men walk along a wall rebuilding it, as it has fallen apart during the winter season, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This tradition was all they knew, and kept the two men apart for their whole lives. Before the wolves come, Ulrich(one of the men), asks Georg if he wants to finally be friends, and Georg replies Ulrich von Gradwitz, I will be your friend. This acquaintanceship had begun all in the hour or two they were together out of their many years. In the short amount of time where the weight of tradition wasn t on their shoulders, and no family was pressuring them, they were able to resolve their conflicts. Another point is the conflict that had started their tradition over a plot of forest that was not remarkable for the game it harbored or the shooting it afforded. The author of the poem Mending Wall, Robert Frost, uses an extended metaphor to reveal the idea that tradition can cause social division. Mending Wall is a poem about two men who rebuild the stone wall that marks their property line, which is done once every year after winter has died down. The narrator has seen the wall as useless and there is truly no use for it, as his apple trees will never get across / and eat the cones under his pines. It is like the narrator has a pack of wolves and the other man sheep. Yet, the neighbor feels quite the opposite, he feels the wall is necessary. He says not once, but twice Good fences make good neighbors.

All three examples combined quite unique and disparate traits into what became colorful, humorous, and impactful scenes in the movie series. You might liken any of these to our Jr. Beta Club: we are unique and colorful, humorous (perhaps even in times when we shouldn t be), but committed to making an impact in our school and community. We take our dissimilar traits and combine them into strengths. Even though Toy Storyis, at its surface, just a children s cartoon, each of the three films hold very powerful moral lessons that can be applied to leadership in our Jr. Beta Club. When we were inducted into the Jr. Beta Club, the world we knew was transformed immensely, and as time went on we evolved into better leaders and more accepting people overall. You might say that we were Buzz Lightyears , thrust into a new situation where not everyone was welcoming, but given time and the right attitude, we were able to navigate and make our place in Andy s room. Even though that was only my first year of Beta, I feel like I learned the extremely important lesson of embracing change, and as my years continue I learn more and more each

Lawrence in which he creates a criticism of the modernized world s admiration and desire for material objects. It was published in Harper s Bazaar magazine in 1926 for the first time (E Notes). The story s main character, Hester, is a beautiful woman who is completely consumed by the idea of possession, and so she loses out on the love of family and the happiness of life. Her son, Paul, also learns to love wealth because of his negligent mother, constantly hearing the whispers of empty pockets in their home. D. H. Obsessed with her unluckiness, she neglects her children who are constantly exposed to the cold, emptiness of their mother s heart. She is unable to love anything but the money she cannot attain. Her oldest child, Paul, forced to deal with this bitter treatment the longest, becomes obsessed with money as well, but as an attempt to win the interest of his mother. Absorbed, taking no heed of other people, he went about with a sort of stealth, seeking inwardly for luck (Lawrence 483). He rides into a trance on his rocking horse until he is killed by this urgency to find a winner. He wants to be lucky so badly. He wants to be the best, something his mother and father believed they could never be. He needs the money so that his house will stop screaming and his mother will love him. The role of money is merely to buy attention. Hester wants to use it to buy acceptance in the higher classes, and Paul wants to use it to buy his mother s affection. The attention the characters seek is only superficial, however. The attention is based on outward signs of prosperity. Hester s family is considered the best on the block because everything they own looks rich and expensive, but they are in great debt. Hester s compassion for Paul is also based on this money presents are the only things that show her love. This never stops Hester from pushing for more luxuries in an attempt to win this false admiration. Of course, in the end, Hester s vanity will cost them
  • 11. Primary Educational Disparities And Education There are several primary educational disparities that arise when race and income are considered. These gaps are due to the notion that the majority of minorities live in low income areas that have underfunded public schools. Schools in impoverished areas tend to have fewer educational resources such as supplies, funding, amenities, and college preparatory classes. However, students living in povertyrequire more intensive resources..., and many schools in poor neighborhoods lack the...resources to break the nexus between student background characteristics and student achievement (Nielsen, 2013). Since race has already been found to be a significant factor in college readiness, poor racial minorities face a more complex disadvantage than their higher income or white counterparts. Concentrated poverty further prevents minorities from rising in economic status. With such a large population of minority children attending underfunded schools, they are learning in environment that hinders their ability to complete higher education. Additionally, students who live in low income areas typically attend schools with higher poverty rates; thus, those students are not as equally prepared for college. Lack of funding and resources in poorer schools prevents students from learning the advanced math, reading, science, and social skills needed to be prepared for higher education. This gap in resources provides a means for the students of provincial schools to have a further breach

Australian Stereotype Representations of the Australian Persona В‘Mateship A key element of what is presented to be the Australian character is that of camaraderie, base friendliness towards everybody, and egalitarianism, the belief that everybody is equal and should have the same opportunities, treatment, etc. as everybody else. Phrases such as G day Mate and Chuck a shrimp on the barbie are well known internationally as being В‘Australian , having been made popular by Paul Hogan s representation in the 1986 internationally highest grossing film Crocodile Dundee. Numerous examples of the frequent use of common Australian slang can be found in the six book series Western Wildcats by Australian author John Larkin, e.g. where phrases such as But not any more, but. is characteristic one of the main characters, known as В‘Splinters В– even when talking to the Queen of England. • 13. Confederation Independence Declaring Independence from Great Britain left the United States dismantled and in need of structure. During the Revolutionary war the continental congress wrote the Articles of Confederation to regulate the colonies as a national government. Lasting no more than 4 years the Articles of Confederation lacked any sufficient power to keep the country united as one and protected with a national army or navy. As each state was formed they began to act out against each other in self interest. With no power to regulate commerce between states, the states were free to establish their own commerce rules that would most often impact other states negatively. Soon there was sufficient interest from the states to arrange an official meeting in Philadelphia to change the Articles of Confederation. During the 5 months that the delegates met in secrecy they worked together to create a checks and balance system to prevent any abuse of power. Resulting in the government s power split between three very different branches of government from part of the Virginia plan called the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Under this adopted plan congress was given the power to veto laws passed by the state legislature and protect the harmony of the United States. The delegates of the Constitutional Convention came to what is known as The Great Comprise by adopting a two house legislature. This compromise gave proportional representation to the House of Representatives and equal representation to the senate and established that three out of five slaves would be included in state s critical headcount. Another measure to balance power in the legislator, the delegates created the Electoral College as a way to elect the president and vice president. On September 17, 1787 George Washington declared the Constitutional Convention had come to an end and they had completed writing the constitution. Needing the approval of only nine states the ratification of the constitution created many debates between the Federalist and Anti Federalist about how and why the country would benefit from this new government structure. By June 25, 1788 the constitution had sufficient votes to become the new form of government. The newly adopted constitution allowed for the national government to regulate commerce and establish common laws between the states ensuring growth in unity as a nation. With the proper governmental organization put in place, westward expansion was the main

How do we balance the tension between freedom of expression and the need to protect children? It is that the media as a whole is not as harmful to children as some intense other can, but over exposure to certain aspects of certain types of media can be harmful. This war was fought between the Roman Catholics or Catholic League and the Huguenots. These wars started with a French protestant by the name of John Calvin started to become suspicious of the Roman Catholic churches and their corruption within their government. Calvin believed that the two should be separated and created a doctrine with a different form of Protestantism. Higher up religious figures that were fed up with the dominance of the Catholic churches decided to stand behind this doctrine. Eventually, Calvinism was being accepted and taught throughout the local civilians and spread like wildfire throughout Europe. As Catholic churches started to fall victim to this movement, King Henrii II of France decided to attempt to end this movement as it was a threat to his reign and control. According to some experts, multitasking, especially when evolving technology, can actually have negative effects on performance and awareness. Thus, we set out to test how well students, the population that seems most effected by multitasking, could multitask when being timed. Using basic instruments like quarters, cards, a timer, and a survey, we created an experiment that simulated some of the difficulties of multitasking, and measured the amount of time it took people to do multiple things at a time. The results demonstrated that overall, doing more than one thing at a time, is both time consuming, and requires more active thinking. Despite their magnificence, flowers must remain stationary. It is a prison, yet no one thinks beyond the simplicity of a pretty flower. Like women, flowers are seen at face value without any concern for the lack of freedom, opportunity, and expression they have. Women are meant to be seen just how society expects and not any other way. In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, female characters face the serious consequences of societal expectations and views on sexuality. Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses the motif of flowers to symbolize women and their virginity to demonstrate the confinement of women in society. The author Marquez uses character names to illustrate the societal preference of virginity. For example, the character Flora Miguel, who enjoyed a certain floral quality, is named after flowers (66). By using curious diction with the word certain, Marquez points to an almost undefinable yet intriguing feature. Since the narrator is a man, it demonstrates male interest in women s sexuality. Because the author says it is due to floral quality, the interest comes from virginity specifically. Further proving the value of virginity, Divina Flor exemplifies this ideal. Divina Flor is not simply named after flowers, but rather her name has a more specific meaning. When translated to English, her name means divine flower. Marquez names her

Sometimes a double chop is used when the guitar still plays the off beats, but also plays the following 8th beats on the up stroke. Horn sections are frequently used in reggae, often playing introductions and counter melodies. Instruments included in a typical reggae horn section include saxophone, trumpet or trombone. In more recent times, real horns are sometimes replaced in reggae by synthesizers or recorded samples. The horn section is often arranged around the first horn, playing a simple melody or counter melody. The first horn is usually accompanied by the second horn playing the same melodic phrase in unison, one octave higher. The third horn usually plays the melody an octave and a fifth higher than the first horn. The horns are generally played fairly softly, usually resulting in a soothing sound. However, sometimes punchier, louder phrases are played for a more up tempo and aggressive sound. Harmonically, the music is essentially the same as any modern popular genre with a tendency to make use of simple modal chord progressions. The soul therefore has a specific function in connecting the body with the divine as well as running bodily functions. Athanasius instead argues that the fall of man is a real thing that happens to a living body, which voluntarily decides to allow its thoughts to wander away from doing good and falls for the material world hence its punishment is to be sent away from paradise. Athanasius therefore argues that recreation is simply the restoration of man in the image of God. Man sinned and lost the image of God and therefore he needs to be restored to take this image again. Incarnation therefore finds a great meaning in man s life since it serves this purpose. That is, to restore the relationship between God and man.Through the incarnate Christ, man is able to come closer to God and is saved. Athanasius view on the

Thank you for being late, gave me a better understanding of digital technology and its effect on society. Artificial Intelligence has come a long way since it started, and will keep prospering as the digital age keeps innovating. Which relates to Moore s Law regarding how the speed of rate for computer processing will double every two years, and how I can apply it to my personal life. Programs, and the digital age will continue to develop, and modernize which is why I have to adapt to my surroundings as best as I can. As well as use the tools and resources the digital age have given me in order to be successful in my future career. I have to keep up to date with the new software, and opportunities that technology brings, because even if you do not make use of them, they will not stop evolving. As Friedman concludes in the book, times change faster than we realize, and that is why we as individuals and nations have to adapt by being innovative, open to change, and taking a moment to shut out the rest of the world, and acknowledging our surroundings and giving value to it. I would recommend this book to any of my friends, and to anyone in my generation since it is a book that addresses the present and all of the digital changes that we as a society have been going through, Specifically, the next generation, as Friedman states is the generation that is: going to be asked to dance in a hurricane (Friedman). In conclusion, it is an eye opening and insightful guide towards technology and the effect it is bringing to us, with a silver lining in the end of how we can actually overcome it, and how we can strive in the society and era we live

  • 40. Technological Advancements In Criminal Investigations If this study was conducted today I believe that the conclusions would be somewhat the same as the findings back then. With the technological advancements of cell phones, Global Positioning Systems, the 911 system and computers today, police response times have been greatly reduced. This allows for the greater possibility of capturing an offender at or nearby the scene. This also allows for not only police response times to be decreased but also response times for other first responders that provide lifesaving first aid. With the advancements in forensics the greater chance of catching a criminal after the fact has been greatly improved which allows for the police to be more reactive when a crimehas finally been discovered. With police departments designing precincts in a more efficient manner and utilizing Intelligence Led Policing, Predictive Policing or Compstat to properly allocate resources provides for preventative patrols to be accomplished while also being able to be reactive in nature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time when the study was completed, criminals were in fear of the police capturing them during the commission of a crime. However today, criminals are much more brazen in committing crimes even with police presence. With the ease for criminals to obtain a firearm, many more criminals possess a firearm during the commission of crimes and are not afraid to use that firearm against police. Even though preventative patrols are still being accomplished in policing today, the findings of the study that preventative patrols do not reduce the amount of criminal activity would be much the same as back

They may not share our senses of sight, hearing, or touch, and they could use some form of communication that is currently inconceivable to us. No matter what the traits of these aliens may be, history has shown that just because something may not look or act the same as us, does not mean they need to be a threat to us. It may be challenging to control the media or to calm the public, but, no matter the danger potential of the aliens, this may be one of the highest priorities. Of course, the alien invasion should be handled with heavy precaution, and officials should be mindful as they consider the full magnitude of possibilities when it comes to interactions with unknown life
  • 43. Analysis Of We Wear The Mask The title of Dunbar s We Wear the Mask (1896) emphasizes the essential idea of the poem, which is deception and illusion. The title is repeated in all three stanzas. This tells the reader to keep the title in mind while reading the poem. The persona of Dunbar is conveyed to the reader in first person, which has a strong contributed to the message of the poem along with the rhythm and word choice. It shows the repulsive worldDunbar lives in and the masking of his own true emotions throughout the poem. Dunbar s emotional appeal enhances every mood in the poem from the need to hide the true self, to the deep sorrow behind the mask, and to connecting the mask to how humans must lie. In the first stanza, Dunbar uses irony to express what the mask symbolizes. The mask can represent several things from someone hiding behind a false expression to the things people say and do that aren t honest. The main point of the poem which describes the mask as a grin, but can lie . It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes (Line 2) gives the reader a mental picture with the use of imagery. As well, the extra spacing at the beginning of line two emphasizes the word hiding . This mask hides its own existence, of agonizing misery and hardship. Many people put it on to fit into society. When Dunbar says, With torn and bleeding hearts we smile , (Line 4) it explains the worldly power of the mask. The debt we pay to human guile, (Line 3) means the unhappiness they feel is related to them deceiving others. Both lines are hyperboles that emphasize the struggle behind the mask. The figurative language not only shows the theme of discernment, but shows its impact. In addition, applying the words, we and our gives the poem an all inclusive feel which creates an auxiliary meaning. In the second stanza, Dunbar asks a rhetorical question to prove a point. One should not let others make them suffer by hiding all feelings and emotions from society. When he says, Why should the world be overwise, / In counting all our tears and sighs? (Line 6 7), it contradicts the idea that this poem is universal with the phrase the world . Throughout the poem, the time frame of the publication does not shift the poem at all. But one would

Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed the idea that the Earth was fixed at the centre of the Universe and that the other planets were embedded in a series of concentric crystalline spheres surrounding the Earth. He proposed that 56 different crystalline spheres rotated about the Earth at different rates. Each planet, the Sun, and the moon were in their own sphere surrounding the Earth, and the stars were placed on the largest sphere surrounding everything else. About two centuries after Aristotle, Hipparchus showed that the model better predicted the motion of the heavens if the Earth was placed slightly off the centre of rotation of the celestial spheres. Apollonius also proposed that the planets changed their speed through the heavens and sometimes stopped and travelled backwards. This particular model of the universe mainly evolved around Aristotle s observational evidence of the time in which he lived, which supported the idea demonstrated in the model. In this theory, the motion of things naturally moves to the centre of the Earth and the only way to separate from it was to have a force applied to the

Adults are able to identify sarcasm using two distinct cue; context and intonation (change in tone of an individual s voice). However, are children able to identify these cues and used them to determine sarcasm? And at what age do children have the ability to distinguish sarcasm from everyday speech? Children 8 12 years of age were put through two experiments to determine whether they are able to use context and intonation to identify sarcasm. At the end of the experiment it was determined that the children relied on intonation to identify sarcasm and when intonation was not present they were unable to determine whether or not the character was being sarcastic.... In this experiment twenty four puppets, who were dressed to resemble children, were used as characters in a puppet show. Twelve puppet shows were presented each ending with either an ironic, literal, ironic compliment, or literal compliment. The puppet show went as follows: This is Sam, and this is John. They play on the same soccer team. It is the last few minutes of a game. Outcome 1: John kicks the ball, scoring a goal. Sam says: That was a great play! The narratives of the puppet show were also prerecorded in order to ensure that the criticism made were done in a mocking/insincere tone. After watching the plays the children were asked to rate the main character/speakers

Often, one depicts morality the concept of shades: a color scheme that involves the gradation from lightest to darkest, which in most case, is white to black. In such scale, the shades white and black represent two contrasting extremes as they parallel the idea of morality, where white is right and black is wrong. However, the complication arises at the area between the white and black: the grey. The grey area possesses no absolute verdict, for one can be both morally right and wrong. Russian realist Anton Chekhov implements such perception as he colours the story with white, black, and grey. An exploration of The Lady with The Dog serves to examine his employment of colour ... It is very similar to the book of Genesis in the Bible, except it is expanded by John Milton into a very long, detailed, narrative poem with a different view of Satan. Even though he leads a war against God, is sent to hell, and seeks revenge throughout the poem h still ends up being a very likable character. The movie was good with a great amount of suspense, and kind of gives a real outlook of the Satan and how he works. The movie is about Satan and sin. The point of the movie and the poem was not to glorify sin but exposes it and all the devious things the devil would do or has done. But it also shows the consequences of sin. Just like Paradise Lost The Devil s Advocate shows Satan is filled with vanity, greed, and lust who is a great deceiver and knows how to twists words and meanings. The movie is a modern re interpretation of the poem, I also think it is pretty cool that the Devil in the film is name John Milton. Overall I think in the poem Paradise Lost Satan s character was meant to be more attractive to the readers so they would also be seduced by his ways. His character was meant to be more liked then he usually is in things such as the Bible. He was not necessarily meant to be looked at as the hero, but he was described in such a way that it tempted the readers to like him. Just like Satan lured people in and made them do the wrong things Milton lured in his readers to like Satan. He did such a great job that I felt sorry for Satan. But he also made us see everything from Satan view. Which basically
