4. Condensation
• Condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air is changed into liquid water. Condensation is
responsible for the formation of clouds.
• Ex. Wet grass, Dew
• Condensation nuclei are tiny particles in the air that provide a surface of water to condense onto. The nuclei
allows the condensed droplet to become large enough to become rain droplets.

5. Precipitation
• Precipitation is water released from clouds in the form of rain, freezing rain,sleet,snow,and hail.
• Precipitation is the primary connection in the water cycle that provides for the delivery of atmospheric water to the earth.
• Deforestation plays a part in this process in the process of transpiration in which water vapor is released producing a
localized humidity. The water then evaporates and precipitates in one of the 4 forms

6. Infiltration and Runoff
Infiltration is the process where rain water soaks into the ground and into the soil and underlying rock layers.
Some water that infiltrates will remain in the shallow soil layer, where it will gradually move vertically and
horizontally through the soil and subsurface material. Some of the water may infiltrate deeper, recharging
groundwater aquifers. If the aquifers are porous enough to allow water to move freely through it, people can
drill wells into the aquifer and use the water for their purposes. Water may travel long distances or remain in
groundwater storage for long periods before returning to the surface or seeping into other water bodies, such
as streams and the oceans.
The water that doesn't get infiltrated makes its way from the ground surface into places that water collect.
Runoff can lead to pollution, floods, and Eutrophication.

7. Alteration of the cycle
Humans alter the cycle in many ways. One being the change of streamflow patterns. These changes cause
the alteration of the seal level and ocean salinity, as well as altering the lands physical properties. Humans
also reduce the amount of runoff that enters the ocean, this way allowing us to prevent our oceans of being
polluted.
We alter the cycle to benefit us. An example being in most of New Zealand electricity is generated using
hydro pumps. This allowing us for the most efficient way to produce and control our electricity. Another way
is irrigation, which is the process of the artificial watering for the faster production of food.
