War Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of war is a challenging endeavor, to say the least. It's not merely
about compiling historical facts or analyzing military strategies; it delves into the complex and
often contentious realms of human nature, politics, ethics, and the profound impacts of conflict
on societies.
Firstly, there's the immense breadth of the subject matter. The history of warfare spans millennia
and encompasses countless conflicts, each with its own unique context, causes, and
consequences. Narrowing down this vast expanse to a manageable scope for an essay requires
careful consideration and research.
Then comes the sensitive nature of the topic. War evokes strong emotions and differing
perspectives. Delving into discussions about the morality of war, the justifications for conflict,
and the human suffering it entails demands a delicate balance of empathy, critical analysis, and
respect for differing viewpoints.
Furthermore, addressing the multifaceted aspects of war necessitates interdisciplinary research
and a nuanced understanding of fields such as history, political science, sociology, psychology,
and ethics. It's not just about recounting battles or listing casualties; it's about examining the
underlying causes, the societal impacts, and the lessons learned from the tragedies of war.
Moreover, crafting an essay on war requires navigating through a minefield of biases and
interpretations. Historiographical debates, political agendas, and cultural perspectives can heavily
influence the narrative surrounding any conflict. Separating fact from interpretation,
acknowledging diverse viewpoints, and maintaining academic rigor are essential challenges in
such endeavors.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of war demands intellectual rigor, emotional
sensitivity, and a deep understanding of its multifaceted dimensions. It's a task that requires not
only research and analytical skills but also empathy and humility in grappling with the
complexities of human conflict.

Increasing the Minimum Wage Will Reduce Income
Inequality...
No person can maximize the American Dream on the minimum wage.
Benjamin Todd Jealous
No family gets rich from earning the minimum wage. In fact, the current minimum
wage does not even lift a family out of poverty.
Jon Corzine
Income inequality has been a major problem facing American society for decades,
but has recently become a major concern. I personally believe the major gap between
the income of the rich and poor is a not just, but is not a major concern for the
government and society. If the Federal Government addresses other major concerns
facing American citizens the inequality will be adjusted due to other changes. The
government needs to step in and adjust minimum wage and public education. If the

Not only is minimum wage a major social issue that needs to be addressed in order
to help appease income inequality, but also education is a huge social concern. The
reason this is such a concern is because families living in low income housing
neighborhoods attend low income schools and are unable to rise above, because
their schools do not have the same quality funding as high income neighborhood
schools or private ones. The low income schools do not have proper funding and put
the students at an immediate disadvantage compared to high income neighborhood
schools and private schools. I personally believe if the Federal Government supplies
public schools with more than just 15% of their budget, students would not be at
such a disadvantage and have a greater chance to be motivated to attend college and
hopefully obtain a degree to earn a high wage job. In my education classes the
teachers place a huge emphasis on making sure students are getting full educations.
Meaning students start in kindergarten or a pre kindergarten program and finish high
school in order to benefit society and not bring society down. The fact is the
earnings of high school graduates have grown more rapidly, so that the gap between
dropout and graduate earnings expanded over time, even if they do not attend college
it is so important for students to graduate from high school so the inequality does not
increase even more (Becker 1). Additionally, if

Legion of Honor Essay
Throughout different time periods and civilizations come many different types of
art that would never be comparable to those of another time or place. There are
also the pieces that come from a completely different time and place, but yet they
can still be compared to one another. The Torso of a God (Egyptian, New Kingdom,
Dynasty 18, last decade of the reign of Amenhotep III, Granodiorite, 1359 1349
B.C.) and the Statue of Asklepios (Greek, Hellenistic period, Pentelic Marble, 2nd
century B.C.) are two sculptures made hundreds of years apart, yet they both display
many similarities and show how art is constantly changing whilst keeping the same
core ideas. The Torso of a God is a sculpturelocated at the Legion of Honor museum

The statue shows the God in a good light and as a muscular and fit being, but at the
same time is portrayed in an extremely unrealistic way. The Statue of Asklepios is a
classic Greek sculpture that portrays a person of the most perfect and athletic
form. The piece is of a man standing beautifully while draped in a toga. The toga is
draped over his left shoulder and cuts across to the right side of his body near his
lower abdomen and then continues to cover his legs until his ankle. The toga also
is draped over the pieces entire back. The piece is missing his head, his left arm
and both his right foot and almost its entire right arm. The piece has a smooth, but
not glossy, exterior in all of the areas except for the parts that have been broken off.
Asklepios is portrayed as an incredible fit and beautiful being. The abdomen is
extremely muscular and shows off the miraculous fitness of the model. The toga
has many wrinkles, creating a lot of shadow and darks and lights. It also is
wrapped in a way that is both loose and tight in different areas of the sculpture. It is
tied right next to the left pectoral and the left armpit. This piece emphasizes the
muscular body of this man while at the same time portraying him standing in such a
nonchalant way through the curvature and relaxed look of the figure. And unlike the
Torso of a God, this piece clearly shows movement through the shape of the body and
the folds of the toga because

Cold War On Iran Essay
Emerging from World War II as victorious and relatively unscathed, America
embraced its new title as the new Global Power. However, global leadership was not
entirely in the hands of America. Through the Cold War, America struggled with the
Soviet Union for global influence and operated many regime changes in order to halt
the spread of communism, the ruling political party of the Soviet Union. The
American overt and covert actions of overthrowing and replacing foreign
governments in Iran, Guatemala, and Afghanistan have come with immediate and
long term effects, which have weakened American security, created more foreign
enemies, and established Anti Americanism.
One instance of American controlled regime was the overthrow of democratically ...

oil. America would get a 20% share in Iran s oil. The share in oil would prove to
be beneficial to the U.S. economy. However, during the 1970s, the Shah broke off
his relationship with the U.S. through high taxation on foreign companies, and
increased oil concession royalties. The Iranians also took control of the price of oil,
which was a major contributing factor to the 1973 energy crisis (Ghosh). The long
term effect of this regime change was the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The Shah s
rule, backed by the United States, was an cruel, oppressive, and tyrannical one, and
was one that sparked the rebellion of the nation. The direct impact on America s
security came when a group of Iranian students seized the U.S. Embassy in Iran and

some point, think about what area they want to major in. There are many things that
students consider when choosing a major. Some make their decision based on what
they think can make them the most money once they begin their lives in the work

Essay on Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
INTERTWINED BEGINNINGS: Middlesex is an outline of the life of Calliope
Stephanides who grew to the age of fourteen believing that she was a girl with
unnatural thoughts for the same sex. As puberty takes hold of her friends and
classmates, both Calliope and her family begin to worry about the growing gap
between her and the average teenage girl; this marks the beginning of a new life for
Calliope who finds she is really a he. Under the new name, Cal, this individual
struggles with identity management as he traces his transformation from female to
male and the genetic condition, beginning with his paternal grandparents that caused
it. I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smog less Detroit day in

by something called the Point System. (Milton wasn t the only one who worried

standards and selling to the right sort of people. (Middlesex, p. 256).
The Greek culture is very focused around the church and the history of the people;
tradition is a feature of life that is highly respected. In Middlesex the family doctor,
though aging, is from Greece and knows the family well; because of this he is well
trusted and respected. However, because of Dr. Philobosian s age, for many years
he fails to recognize Calliope s circumstance. Another explanation for Calliope s
untended condition could be because in the Greek culture a woman s sexuality and
related matters are kept quiet. Calliope s mother never really had a conversation with
her about her development; it was just assumed that things would go as normal and
sex would come after marriage, in tradition of course. Ultimately, for Greeks, it is not
sexuality in general but women s sexuality in particular that is feared and must be
controlled . (Schott, p. 23). The Greek culture s historical belief that women are the

28 is regarded as the starting of the coup de grГўce of his tragic ending of being King
Israel. The first anointed to be king, being first inst always what is suppose to be.
Here in Saul s case he was the first and now it s going to end in mess. In his life the
Israelite king has gone from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the valley of
moral. He has fought, wrestled long and hard to get to this place as his last few
days of his life are now coming to an end. Tired of wrestling with in his self as
sleepless nights take their toll on him, on the run he has to end of this madness.
General s today, one can look at various battles and from a battle plan. They know
what it takes to end them, who to send where men, targets to bomb, etc. So it was
with Saul he finally came to the point that he has to talk to God. He knows the

square one and Saul square on like so many today is to go here from God.
Social Networks And Its Effects On The Internet
Social networks permit one to discover and connect with people they know and
people they do not know. It has altered the way individuals communicate with one
another. Looking through social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, can cause
a person to feel connected to a greater number of people within society. Social
networks have become a part of people s daily lifestyles. People do not think anything
of it due to numerous individuals having social networks, such as Facebook and
Twitter, that are checked and updated every day. Those who live their lives on these
and other networks do not recognize the fact that their communications with the
world is fading. Today, a position on the internet is more significant, and

Social network is stopping us from having face to face conversations. Because of
the autonomy afforded by the virtual world, individuals are free to create a fantasy
persona and can pretend to be someone else (Cosmato). It is difficult to reject, be
disrespectful, or avoid somebody in person. It is very simple and fast to delete
somebody as a friend or unfollow somebody to stop them from trying to build a
connection. Just one click and your issues are over. Sadly, this trait of the social
networks trick people out of the chance to learn how to solve issues in the world
exterior of the internet and it could weaken a person s social skills.
Teenagers are at greater risk of harm because they are supposed to be taught how to
communicate with others and learn how to create and sustain relationships. A report
from the National School Boards Association shows that of the children in these age
groups that use a social network, 41 percent spend their time posting messages. They
are not spending this time in face to face interactions with their peers or others
(Cosmato). Social networks have made people feel disconnected to the person on the
other end of the line than if they were communicating in person. The relationships
formed online are less strong than relationships that are formed in person through
conversation.
Facebook is harmful to society s social lives because we can just go to somebody s
page, say hello, and
Public School Funding For Public Schools
Most people believe that students do better in well funded schools and that public
education should provide a level playing field for children. Nearly half of the
funding for public schools in the United States, however, is provided through local
taxes, generating large differences in funding between wealthy and impoverished
communities (National Center for Education Statistics, 2000a). Efforts to reduce
these disparities have provoked controversy and resistance. Public school funding
the United States comes from federal, state, and local sources, but because nearly
half of those funds come from local property taxes, the system generates large
funding differences between wealthy and impoverished communities. Such
differences exist among states, among school districts within each state, and even
among schools within specific districts. In 1998, for example, the state with the
highest average level of public school funding was New Jersey, with an annual
funding rate of $8,801 per student, whereas the state with the lowest average level
was Utah, with a yearly rate of $3,804 per student. This means that the typical
student attending a public school in New Jersey was provided more than twice the
fiscal resources allocated to his or her counterpart in Utah. Disparities in per student
funding levels are actually greater within some states than among states as a group.
To illustrate, in 1998, public school districts in Alaska that were ranked at the 95th
percentile for per student

Class and Social Difference in Blood Brothers by Willy...
In the play Blood Brothers Willy Russell explores the differences between a
working class family and a middle class family during the downturn of industry in
Liverpool in the 1960 and 70 s, resulting in The Recession in the early 1980 s. There
is a twist on the fact that they are just two opposite class families Mickey and
Edward. They are two genetically identical twins; however Mickey was brought up in
a working class family and Eddie in a middle classfamily. By using these two
complete extremes, Russell has explored the history of the British class system in a
very extreme way. Seeing the different class upbringings teaches us about Nature vs.
Nurture in society.
Russell chooses to open Blood Brothers with a Narrator speaking a ... Show more

This obviously immediately gives us the impression that Edward is from a middle or
upper class family because he uses so much formal language, even when saying bad
things. By using this strong language in their first meeting it gives the audience a
clear view of the extremes in the classes. The audience can find the first meeting
quite funny because the actors play the two extremes in quite humorous ways.
Initially this can make the difference in class seem quite a light subject when
really, as we find out later in the play, it is an enormously important subject. I think
Russell is positively biased towards Mickey in this first meeting of the boys,
possibly because Mickey is from a lower class family and so was Russell. I think
Russell is biased because Mickey is bragging for the small things he loves to play
with. However, even though Edward probably has more than Mickey he doesn t
make a show of it. Russell has made this first meeting a very bold statement, as the
boy s don t seem to show a difference between each other in this first scene, they
seem like two, normal, seven year old friends even though the difference between
the two classes is very obvious. I think this helps to introduce the differences lightly
to draw the audience in, so that they are ready for the drama that comes, later on in
the play.
As the boys grow older, their different classes become more significant to the play.

My Experience At A Children s Camp
The past few days of observation are based upon my final week as a coordinator for
a children s camp. Including my interactions with people as our programs are
winding down and the unexpected realities of what was going on outside of the
camp. In this week I experienced; upward social comparison, availability heuristic,
mortality salience and social cognition.
Upward social comparison I participated in a panel discussing the benefits of
advanced placement classes. In my discussion of my personal experiences, I
talked about comparing myself to my more intelligent classmates. In high school I
felt like I was not as mart as my classmates. I discussed how it made me work
harder, I wanted to be at what I perceived was a higher level. The example in the
book mentioned studies of people using upward social comparison to motivate
themselves to success (pg. 86). As mentioned by the text upwards social
comparison can be a positive tool for motivation. The textbook also spoke about
the dangers of comparing yourself with others if a person does not believe they
can reach what they are aspiring to be. I recognize what the danger in upward
social comparison could be, it would be hard to process failure if you lived your
entire life comparing yourself to others. I do not know if I thought I could reach what
I was comparing myself to, but I believe I benefited from the push. Eventually, I no
longer relied the comparison.
Availability Heuristic In my closing duties, I evaluated

The Power Of Women In The Book Of Esther
The book of Esther has two excellent example of empowered women, maybe not in
the modern sense of the word but both Esther and Vashti did the best they could with
the circumstances they were given. This book deals with problems of sexism, racial
discrimination, the mistreatment of women s bodies, and the power given to women.
It also shows the changes that strong women can make in their roles in society. Vashti
is an example of personal integrity to the women of her society, and Estheris
discerning enough to save a whole people group from extinction.
The first example of integrity and power in the book is seen through Vashti, King
Xerxes first wife. Vashti shows her integrity and power when she refuses to go
before the king and his friends for their pleasure. On the seventh day, when King
Xerxes was in high spirits from wine, he commanded the seven eunuchs who
served him ... to bring before him Queen Vashti, wearing her royal crown, in order
to display her beauty to the people and nobles, for she was lovely to look at. Some
people believe that when the king requests for Vashti to be displayed in her crown
that what he means in only in her crown and nothing else. Even if this is not true
the request for her to show off her beauty to him and his drunk friends is revolting.
Vashti shows her bravery in her refusal to follow the king s wishes. It appears to be
common knowledge that the king can execute anyone who denies him. The
description of what happens after this even is
Boyz N The Hood Stereotypes
Boyz N the Hood shows the challenges black men face due to their home life and
the conditions of the area their community. In the film, we see the difference in
how Tre, Darren, and Ricky live. Ricky and Darren are brothers who have different
fathers and who are both different as day and night. The film shows how important
it is to have a male role model in the home. This is evident in Tre life because he has
male leadership. Individuals who live in poor communities develop friendships with
those close to them, such as gang members. These friendship lead to drugs and
violence, separates them from the community, and can cause discrimination. Due to
their poverty, the residents of the community lives are difficult and they are faced with

When Dough drinks, he has violent moods, which causes him to murder others in
the neighborhood. This adds to the stereotype that all people who live in poor
areas are alcoholic, drug addicts, thugs or gang members. There is also a struggle
going on with Ricky who is having academic problems in school. Ricky
understands his limitations and does not use drugs or alcohol to solve his issues.
He uses his ability on the football field as a way of succeeding and becomes an All
American. Because of his football skills, a college recruits him. While the three
have different struggles, Tre and Ricky lives are in jeopardy when they hang with
their friend Dough. This is exemplified in a scene where Tre and Ricky are
attending a block party with Dough. A rival gang member deliberately bumps into
Ricky and stares are exchanged. The rival gang member makes an off key remark
and Ricky responds to the remark. Dough backs up his brother and shows the gang
member that his has a gun in his waistband to solve any problem they might have.
This issue continues and the gang members have not forgotten what has happen, as
they drive by Ricky s and Dough house. Ricky does not engage them but Dough tries
to provoke a confrontation with the gang members. This behavior typically causes

Blue Buffalo Pet Food Products
On May 6, 2014 a lawsuit was filed against Blue Buffalo pet food by their
competitors Purina for false advertising. The suit claims that Blue Buffalo
deliberately mislead consumers to believe that they did not use by product meal in
the ingredients of their pet foods (The Inquisitr News, 2008 2016). In July of 2014
Purina hired Dr. James V. Makowski from Windsor Laboratories to conduct tests on
Blue Buffalo foodproducts (The Inquisitr News, 2008 2016). The tests concluded that
many of the Blue Buffalo pet food bags contained poultry by product meal, and that
Blue Buffalo s grain free pet food did indeed contain grains, both contrary to its
labeling (The Inquisitr News, 2008 2016). Immediately after the allegations Blue

They have disregarded their responsibility to tell the truth, to do good, and to be fair

the rights approach, the common good approach, and the virtue approach. The rights
approach encourages a company to value the fact that people have fundamental
moral rights, and are not objects to be manipulated. The rights approach outlines that
people have the moral right to know the truth. Blue Buffalo has gone against this
ethical framework as they did manipulate their consumers by mislabeling their
products and using false advertisement to promote their pet food products. As the
rights approach states, consumers have the right to know the truth about the
products they are purchasing and Blue Buffalo failed to provide the honest truth.
Secondly, the common good approach urges a company to view themselves as
members of the same community who share the same values and goals. Blue
Buffalo failed to use this approach with their products. They did not view
themselves as part of the community because they lied and mislead the community.
Much like the common good approach, Blue Buffalo overlooked the virtue
approach when developing the morals and values of the company. They did not
create a line of products based on a good moral compass as they were dishonest and
unfair. If the company followed at least one of these
Hot Rod Vs Napoleon Dynamite
Hot Rod vs. Napoleon Dynamite On one hand, Hot Rod is cool beans ,on the
other, Napoleon Dynamite is flippin sweet! Both these weird humored comedies
have various on the surface aspects that generate similarity, yet different
components of each film set the two apart. The plot of these movies are more
different than they are alike. Napoleon Dynamite is set in a small town and has a
fairly insignificant plot: Pedro for class president. Napoleon, himself, is an
awkward teenager trying to help his friend. Comparing this to Hot Rod, there is a
step up. The plot of the Hot Rod showcases a fairly more significant than that of
Napoleon Dynamite. Rod Kimble is an awkward adult who is trying to raise money

Napoleon and his friends retain PG humor with comments that are so simply odd a
viewer has to laugh, What the flip was Grandma doing at the sand dunes? Rod and
his crew, though, amp up their humor level to PG 13 with drug use, crude humor,
and profanities. A considerable amount of the humor in Hot Rod relies on
violence to draw laughter from the audience, You re wrong, Frank. I m not a kid, I
m a man. I am gonna get you better, and then I m gonna beat you to death! Violence
is nearly absent in Napoleon Dynamite with the exception of Uncle Rico launching
a steak at Napoleon s face. There is a minute romance in Hot Rod with Rod and
Denise, yet there is an even more nonexistent one in Napoleon Dynamite with
Napoleon and Deb: almost nonexistent. Napoleon Dynamite is a movie that almost
anyone could watch and enjoy. Hot Rod, however, is a hit or miss movie. The
controversial topics of Hot Rod could also be concerning for parents, whereas
parents would easily let their children watch Napoleon Dynamite. Napoleon
Dynamite and Hot Rod are the same type of movie on the surface, but their
differences in plot and humor display how they cater to different audiences.
Napoleon Dynamite remains an enjoyable movie with a steady pace while Hot Rod
goes on as not resolute. These two classic movies have certain aspects that both set
them apart from one another as well as adding to their

The Crested Gecko
The New Caledonian Crested Gecko is one of the most sought out reptiles in the
herptoculture hobby today. This medium sized gecko has all the qualities of what to
expect of a pet lizard. They combine their sheer beauty and low maintenance and
docile tempers, making it an all around great pet to own (Rhacodactylus, p. 16). In the
herpetological society, the crested gecko s popularity has grown above hobbyist, into

In my experience, holding these animals are not a challenge, making them easy to
hand train by holding them three times a week for a few minutes at a time. They
do, however have the tendency to leap like frogs so I would recommend letting
them leap from hand to hand. The benefit of owning an animal of this size is also
the enclosure they are kept in. According to De vosjoli, Fast, and Repashy (2003)
Baby crested geckos can be kept in small plastic keepers until they reach juvenile
size, which is about five inches (p. 19). I recently purchased a juvenile crested
gecko, and its habitat is a medium sized terrarium, where it will live throughout its
life span. In observing my daughters interaction with her crested gecko, it is clear
that he is a manageable size and is not skirmish giving her an enjoyable experience

care for crested geckos becomes easier and less expensive with little or no special

Heating and lighting are not necessary for crested geckos, keeping the cost of the

Remembrance Of Australia s Participation
According to the Oxford Dictionary, the Universal definition of devastating is,
causing severe shock, distress or grief. World War One is the war that historians often
describe as devastating . In a letter to Andrew Fisher, Keith Murdoch stated, It is
undoubtedly one of the most terrible chapters in our history . The Great War, as it is
commonly known, had a devastating effect on the Australian society, through the
psychological torment that haunted the soldiers, nurses and civilians. A question
prominent in the events leading up to the centenary of the landing at Gallipoli was,

The Australian community emerged into the modern era, with women taking up the
role of men in the workforce and Australia gaining cultural independence.
During this time Australia also gained independence and recognition through our
achievements. Australia s initial reaction to World War One was overwhelmingly
positive. The nation was filled with enthusiasm as all pledged to fight alongside
Britain. Many thought that Australia s participation in the war would prove their
worth to the mother country . Andrew Fisher, the Australian opposition leader at the
time, stated during an election speech in July 1914 that, Australians will stand beside
the mother country to help and defend her to our last man and our last shilling.
Australia gave Britain their word and carried out their duty as a recognisable army.
Australians should also commemorate Australia s participation in the First World
War because it reshaped our economic system. The Commonwealth of Australia
was formed in 1901 and was still a young nation by the outbreak of war. Little more
than a decade after Federation, new taxation laws were needed for the war. Federal
income tax was then introduced in 1915 to fund Australia s efforts and participation.
Life proved difficult for the nation regarding resources and supplies. Resources were

Katy Perry Poetic Devices
In 2013, Perry, Bonnie McKee, Dr Luke, Max Martin, and Cirkut composed a song
entitled Roar. It is a power pop song with lyrics centring on standing up for oneself
and self empowerment. It is a statement by Perry of moving forward into the next
stage of her life after the tumultuous end of her marriage to Russell Brand. Many
people use songwriting in order to overcome a situation in life. One of the opening
verses states I see it all, I see it now . The author uses a hyperbole to capture the
emotion of the lyrics. Katy Perry understands now what she needs to do yet she
does not exactly see it all. I got the eye of the tiger is the response to how she
overcame great obstacles to achieve greatness. Throughout the song the author uses
many illusions like now I m floating like a butterfly, stinging like a bee or you re

statement made by Muhammed Ali about his fighting style. Katy Perry implies
that she s effortless, however, packs a mean punch. In the second illusion, he

Robertson explains that the state of federalism in today s world is driven by the
complexity of issues and the pluralistic way of delivering services (p. 170). In the

hypertension to coronary artery disease. He arrived to the emergency room after
experiencing symptoms associated with an infection. He is later diagnosed with

Therefore, a practical solution would be for the physician to order additional care on
the grounds that the patient needs further education on how to further care for
himself. Before any patient is discharged, physicians must ensure patient is able to

assure an elderly patient is receiving some sort of support (Panagioti et al. (2014).
All are basis for a physician to effectively advocate why an elderly patient may need
additional care even if it is provided by an outpatient facility. Managed care should
not interfere with the care a patient is receiving. According to Samuels (2012),
utilization management may reduce inpatient services, for example, through reducing
length of [hospital] stay and channeling some inpatient procedure to outpatient
facilities . In this case, allowing for the 78 year old patient to continue care outside
of the hospital could have been the best solution rather than allowing the patient to
be discharged too soon. Allowing the patient to be discharged at this point can
ultimately end up costing more as a possible re admittance is highly likely since the

Review Of Using Constructionism Learning Theory
By using constructionism learning theory, the classes of the data system for JCTS
can be divided into four categories:
Non human resource (Learning resources): many n part relationships are identified in
the EF (Entity Framework) database. o Learning Objects metadata: Job Techniques.
One Technique is one job competency, which is the objective of learning. o Learning
Activities: These Activities can be learning activities identified for achieving a
particular job Technique during a job form creation, and also the instructional

Windows authentications are assigned to the users account which makes the system
more secure. Role Based Access Control (RBAC) is used to control the access of data
by different roles of users. For example: an engineer cannot edit a particular job
Technique after logging into the system, although an administrator has the ability to
CRUD (create, read, update and delete) any job Technique in the system.
Technically, JCTS is based on B/S structure and programmed by ASP.NET
technology. All kinds of database access are done by using EF to call SQL Server
stored procedures with ADO.NET technology. The user web interface is developed
by razor html page style and colour scheme is controlled by Bootstrap. Web
interaction is programmed by jQuery. The system operation is stable and reliable,
basically achieved all design features.
3.3 Implementation
The web based job competency tracking application JCTS is built on 3 Tier arch by
using ASP.NET MVC, jQuery, Bootstrap, C#.NET, Entity Framework and
Microsoft SQL Server. Because of the limitation of length, we presents only one
activity diagram for the class Activity as an example to show how MVC is
implemented in the code source of JCTS. Figure 13 Activity Diagram for the class
Activity in JCTS

In conclusion, the proposed system JCTS is a web app where an engineer can

Heroism In The Outsiders
Heroism is a general term which means having or performing the qualities of a
hero. This past month, in English and Civics, students have researched and have
explored the meaning of heroism using the 8th grade themes of Order and Chaos.
Specifically in English, students have examined both literary and real life heroes
which have either worked in areas of chaos or in order. In English, students read
novels written about heroes in areas of chaos and order. Personally I have learned the
nature of heroism through chaos and order by reading the book, The Outsiders.
Ponyboy, the main character, has acted as a heroin a time of chaos when he saved the
children from a church on fire. Ponyboy risked his own life to save those kids,
which was an act
The Price Family In Poisonwood Bible By Barbara
Kingsolver
In Barbra Kingsolver s Poisonwood Bible, there are numerous distinct perspectives
within each member of the Price family. However, the most compelling evidence of
perception is the Price family towards the father, Nathan Price. There is a common
consensus between the Price family that Nathan s arrogance and ignorance has
resulted in their excessively timed stain in the Congo. Throughout the course of
Poisonwood Bible, each character in the Price familyperspectives cohesively alters
towards disgust for Nathan. The Price family emphasizes their resentment towards
Nathan s decision for them to remain in the Congo. Once the family was given a
warning to leave, Nathan refused the offer due to his overwhelming arrogance. As a
result, the Price family revealed their bitter input by exclaiming: Father would sooner

Consequently, the family started to realize that Nathan s drive is not to help the
Congo receive salvation, but for his own self centered motives. He screams to
Rachel and Leah saying God despises a coward who runs while others stand and
suffer (238). Nathan tries to impose guilt amongst his family with hope that they
will gain sympathy towards the people whom dwell in the Congo. However, the
peril in the Congo becomes a prevalent threat to the Price family, and evacuation
would be pivotal for their own safety. Moreover, the family started losing faith as
Nathan forces their stay in the Congo. Leah exclaimed in the text, [Our stay in the
Congo] has opened up in my heart a sickening world of doubts and possibilities,
where before I had only faith in my father and love for the Lord (244). From the
Prices perspective excluding Nathan, their faith has diminished because of the
method in which Nathan demanded their stay in the Congo. Thus, Nathan is the
driving force for the Price family s loss of faith and

The invention of the jeep was a very interesting time because there are many groups

heart for surviving 2 beach landings after it was dropped out of a plane. So the jeep
earned one of the army s most prestigious awards. The jeep was also called the only
American sports car by Enzo Ferrari as a way of insulting the chevy corvette
because he thought that the jeep was so much better. The jeeps are also one of the
best cars you can buy because it is so customizable, rugged, and very easy to fix.
Since jeeps were so good everyone tried to copy the jeeps great design. Jeep has

things. When the jeep was created they were only 1,300 pounds and they thought
that was too light so they then raised it to 2,160 pounds. They also had to change
the wheelbase size on the jeep from 80 inches to a little more than 90 because they
were flipping to easy but even with the bigger wheelbase they are still flipping. They
also changed the ground clearance that jeeps have about 6.25 inches to 8.8 inches so

It can be seen that delivery service is mature in the UK market. Due to the mature
road network in the UK, there is no border to delivery hot and fresh cuisine to the
customers.
McDonald s is a well known catering company in the world. In the UK market, there
is no delivery service. Therefore, a number of customers who looks for fast food
cannot enjoy McDonald s food. Due to the market demand, home and office delivery

Overview of the sector
According to the western agricultural economics association research(Agricultural
and Resource Economics, 2001), the demand of a fast food service is increasing in
a fast level because of its convenience. Delivery service of every thing is very
common, such as Argos and ASDA. They deliver their goods to its customer with a
strong driving team. It can been seen that UK residents enjoy the benefit of delivery
service which brings them convenience.
In the UK, it is not difficult to find a delivery food shop because of its common
level. Some companies promo an application of smart phone to let different
customers to order their food. The significant example is hungry house. There are
over 10,000 restaurants on their perform to let a huge number of hungry customer to

Chaos In The Sound And The Fury
William Faulkner s novel, The Sound and the Fury, exemplifies the very meaning of
an internal conflict between order and chaos through the forlorn and tragic character,
Quentin Compson. Although Quentin is displayed with an outward appearance that
can be described as orderly, it is apparent through his chaotic thoughts that he is
overwhelmed by his ardent views on the Compson family s honor, which was
destroyed when Caddy lost her virginity. Throughout Quentin s section, the
descriptions of his present day to day actions show how he lives a life that has
order, with an average person s problems. He narrates with a calm and controlled
tone at times, I bathed and shaved... I put on my new suit... (Faulkner 51). These

He so fervently wished to cleanse the family name of its impurities as well as
Caddy of her impurity by suggesting that the both of them commit a double suicide.
For his obsession to restore order to go this far could mean that Quentin is
controlled by his twisted and far over the top sense of honor, which is also the root
cause of his suffering and anguish, of his confusion and mental upheaval. He desires
for order, and at times maintains it, but his mental instability overwhelms whatever
order exists in his life by a large margin which results in his eventual demise. His
interactions with and thoughts of Caddy often lead him to extreme actions, which
can be seen in the moment when he jumped on Gerald after thinking back to his
altercation with Dalton Ames, Did I hurt him any? (Faulkner 104). The flurry of
thoughts in his mind are so potent that they end up affecting how he acts outside of
his mind, leading him to do crazy things such as fighting a guy who was way out of
his level of fighting experience. His instability is dangerous, and something to
consider is that perhaps he walks in isolation because he wishes to avoid running into
any possible triggers that make him

David Fletcher Case Study Essay
Why did Fletcher s first attempt to build a team fail?
When the environment for portfolio management changed and as Fletcher began
being overwhelmed with research, he sought to create a team of analysts that could
assist him with his work. Fletcher failed to build this team on his first attempt as a
result of several causes. There were multiple mistakes that Fletcher made that can be
seen in his interactions with people. The first was his assistant Whitley which he had
a close relationship with. Before Fletcher hired Doyle, he did it hastily without
consulting Whitley. The lack of consent and thought for how he would fit into the
company s culture showed when tension grew between Doyle and Whitley. This led
to unproductive work as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though this might have taken Fletcher more time to build his team, it could
have been more effective in the long run if he hired analysts with less experience but
more open thinking. An example of how this worked was with Whitley, who Fletcher
molded into a portfolio manager. From a broader approach, issues can be seen in
Fletcher s management style. Not only was it disorganized, but he spent most of his
time focusing on his work, not his team. This however was of course his nature.
From The Five Minds of a Manager Fletcher did not display all of the managerial
mindsets required to be successful. The most important was that he lacked the
collaborative mindset. Fletcher not only lacked an engaging personality towards his
team s problems, but he didn t consider the relationships among people. He thought
that as long as a person could perform their job, then that was all that mattered.
Getting along to him was not crucial. Of course, this is the exact opposite thinking of
the collaborative mindset which fosters teamwork and strong relationships. There
were some things that Fletcher did do well. For one, he began to have the reflective
mindset at the end by pondering as to how to create an effective team. This shows
that not only is he thinking about what has happened, but he may be starting to step
Erdrich Hetchy Case Study
Hetch Hetchy is about a reservoir that San Francisco wanted to build for Hydro
electric and water supply. However, it was going to destroy the natural features of
that area and also conflicted with conservation act. This act is to help preserve wild
animals and forests for future generations to enjoy. People wanted to take utilitarian
position in which they would use the land for the benefit of the town. That this
issue is broken up into two parts because on one side has people that want to
preserve and maintain this beautiful area as it is for future generations the other side
is for the resource of water and electricity could produce. This article mentions the
cost of the dam is 300,000 but the benefits would be in the millions. Once the
Muscular System Lab Report
Introduction:
The muscular system has important functions within the human body. This system is
responsible for the movement of limbs, food and liquid, as well as the maintenance of
body heat. Muscles are distinctly known for their extensibility, elasticity, irritability
and contractility [1].
The three main types of muscle within the human body are smooth muscle, cardiac
muscle and skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is the only type which is under voluntary
control, and attach to bones in order to move the skeleton [1].
The body contains many muscles, each responsible for moving a different aspect
of the skeleton. The Biceps brachii and the triceps brachii are two main muscles
located in the upper limb. Biceps brachii is responsible for flexing the upper arm;
the triceps brachii work oppositely to the biceps brachii and is responsible for
extending the elbow [2]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is known as electromyography (EMG) [2]. The activity of targeted muscles
can be identified by the electrodes used in EMG because during muscle fibre
contraction, electrical signals are generated in a random manner. EMG is a vital tool
in biomechanical, biomedical and sports related investigations as it is simple, easy
and painless to the subject being tested [3].
Aim: The aim of this experiment is to understand the relationship between the biceps
brachii and triceps brachii muscles and their roles in contraction and
Als Ice Bucket Challenge Research Paper
People who were on social media or watched the news will remember the ALS Ice
Bucket Challenge. This challenge involved two things; dumping a bucket of ice
water on your head and nominating other people to do the challenge. Most people
had no idea what ALS stands for, or what they even doing; they just wanted to be a
part of the trend. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was started when professional
golfer Chris Kennedy challenged his sister, Jeanette Senerchia in Pelham, New
York. Senerchia s husband has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Senerchia
uploaded a video of her dumping ice water on her head to Facebook, and the trend
was born. When you dump the ice water over your head, for a split second, you are
feeling what people with ALS feel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, ALS can start at any time; there is no age that the symptoms start. Testing for
other diseases and ruling them out is usually how ALS is diagnosed. Normally, these
tests are given; electromyography, nerve conduction velocity, blood and urine studies,
spinal tap, magnetic resonance imaging, muscle biopsy, nerve biopsy, and a thorough
neurological examination. If all other diseases are ruled out by completing these tests
and a neurologist feels as though you do have ALS, you are officially diagnosed with
Meniere s Disease
I chose Meniere s disease because my mom was diagnosed with it a few years ago.
When she first started having problems she was dizzy all the time. For a few years
she went to the doctor often, but nothing seemed to help. I know from my mom
that dreary damp days triggers her symptoms. Meniere s disease patients suffer
from conditions that can t be seen. According to the Mayo Clinic, Meniere s
disease is a disorder of the inner ear that causes spontaneous episodes of vertigo a
sensation of a spinning motion along with fluctuating hearing loss, ringing in the ear
(tinnitus), and sometimes a feeling of fullness or pressure in your ear. These
symptoms can last 20 minutes to up to four hours. They can also come every day or
go days before... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are some techniques that can help with the symptoms. Doctors can
prescribe medications to help with the vertigo and nausea. Doctors can also
prescribe diuretics, which help to reduce the amount of fluid in the inner ear.
Meniere s patients can also get noninvasive therapy like rehabilitation, hearing aids,
or a Meniett device. They can also get injections like Gentamicin, however the risk
of hearing loss is greater. Doctors can also do surgeries to help with the disease.
There is one surgery that can help decrease the vertigo symptoms by decreasing the
fluid. There is also one surgery that can correct the vertigo, while not affecting the
persons hearing. The last surgery will remove the balance and hearing portion of
the inner ear. Doctors will only perform this surgery if the patient has lost total
hearing or near total hearing. The following are some precautions for Meniere s
patients when you are feeling dizzy sit down, rest during and after attacks, be aware
of losing your balance, and when your experiencing frequent episodes avoid driving.
With no immediate cure for Meniere s disease there are helpful behaviors that a
person can practice to help relieve the symptoms. Eating regularly, limiting salt, and
avoiding monosodium glutamate (MSG) can help reduce the fluids, which will help
your symptoms. Some other lifestyle changes are avoiding caffeine, stop smoking,
managing stress and anxiety, and prevention of migraines will relieve the

Acupuncture
Abstract
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a component of the health care system of China that can be traced
back at least 2,500 years. The general theory of acupuncture is based on the premise
that there are patterns of energy flow (Qi) through the body that are essential for
health. Disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for disease.
Acupuncture may, it has been theorized, correct imbalances of flow at identifiable
points close to the skin.
Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances
your Chi (energy). Acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence chi and help it flow
back into balance.
Acupuncture is a family of procedures involving ... Show more content on

Some acupuncture patients report feeling relief from pain after just one treatment.
Others notice results after a series of treatments.
Another positive aspect of acupuncture is that it generally causes few or no side
effects either during or after treatment. Despite the fact that treatment sessions
involve piercing the skin with needles, the needles used are extremely thin, and thus
their insertion does not cause pain in most patients. It is also rare for patients to
experience effects such as bruising or soreness following a treatment.
Many find that the price of treatments is a major disadvantage to using acupuncture
for pain management. Often, multiple treatments are needed before one s pain begins
to diminish. As it is generally considered a form of alternative or complementary
medicine, acupuncture may not be covered by one s health insurance, and thus can be
costly.
Further, acupuncture is not guaranteed to reduce pain, and a significant number of
patients find that it has no noticeable effect. In fact, medical researchers are still
uncertain as to why acupuncture lessens pain in some individuals. Based on
comparative studies of groups receiving acupuncture and those receiving a mock
treatment, it seems that the technique s success or failure may be partly due to
psychological factors.
Finally, using acupuncture for pain management can lead
Analysis Of March By John Lewis
John Lewis has never let his 40+ arrest affect what he stands for. In Lewis book
March, he tells his story of segregation in the 60 s and the events that shaped his
life. From when he was a little kid, to an older adult, March displays Lewis deal
with the segregation in the south, and the hardships others endure. Although he
experienced many events in his life, John Lewis used those events to build himself
religiously and help others. Receiving his first bible, Jim Lawson s workshops, his
decision not to go to college and Martin Luther King s speech all helped him become
who he is. One of Lewis earliest turning points in his life was when his uncle gave
him his first bible. Lewis recalls, Growing up, what I really wanted to be was a...

So although Lewis didn t get to attend Troy, he ended up meeting people in Nashville
that influenced his life positively. Even though his bible was important to him, Jim
Lawson workshops shaped his beliefs of nonviolence and love, being the ultimate
turning point. The workshops taught others how to react when someone was
harassing them, physically or verbally. Lewis especially learned a lot through
these workshops and what Lawson was preaching. He claimed, His words
liberated me. I thought this is it. This is the way out (Lewis 78). See Figure1.
Taking up a whole page in March, this picture shows Lewis gazing into the distance
with the quote above him, almost as if he s had a revelation. Through that
moment, Lewis learned that nonviolent protest was the answer. Lewis was so
moved by these workshops, he wanted to tell everyone, I told my classmates. I told
two of my closest friends Bernard Lafayette and James Bevel. I told everyone they
should come to this workshop (Lewis 79). Lewis really believed these workshops
were the answer, he wanted everyone to attend and learn the ways of civil
disobedience. To Lewis, this was the only answer. Lastly, one of Lewis most
important life events was when he heard Martin Luther King s speech on the radio.
Case Study Of A Child To Love The Art Of Drawing
Case Study
According to (Ya Huei,2014), It is natural for a child to love the art of drawing. It is
stated that children s work on a whole reflects their feelings, thoughts, and actions
circling in their minds. The purpose of the study is to critically assess a student who
displays a high level of interest in Visual Arts. The data was collected through
interviews with parents, teacher and the student. After a few months of studying and
collection, the results found that: 1) the drawings reflected the child s imagination, 2)
the drawings were of the things in relation to his life, 3) the drawings reflected his
feelings about what he sees.
Introduction
(Ya Huei,2014) also stated that children naturally enjoy drawing. There drawings are
typically simple and straightforward which reflects their psychological condition. At
the early stages of childhood, children s drawings are equivalent to their language, and

Therefore, in the process of understanding children s drawings, words that
demonstrate personal or social functions are key factors in determining children s
nature and their early symbolic development. Thus, drawings are children s
behavioural and dialectical expressions, and their mental and ideological
presentations. Children s drawings typically exhibit personal meaning, and present
various image manifestations and styles. Although children are designated as little
artists, few studies have examined the images portrayed in children s drawings.
Objective
This case study is about a young boy named John Miller. I observed him in his
classroom at the St. Mary Academy for children. He is 8 years old, has a young
brother and lives with his mother and his father. The study focuses primarily on the
child s drawings that were collected to determine his artistic development.
Background Information of the
Social Determinants of Health and Phenomenology to
Practice
The purpose of this paper is to thoroughly analyze a patient from a pathophysiological,
social, and philosophical perspective. The World Heath Organization (WHO) social
determinants of health will be applied to the patient data, emphasizing a
phenomenological approach to analyze the determinant of physical environment. By
understanding these various influences on a patient s health status, we can provide a
more holistic approach to health care for future patients.
Discussion of Assessment Findings and Application to Social Determinants A 59
year old male, whose initials have been changed to J.S. due to confidentiality
purposes, will be the patient for this paper. J.S. was admitted on January 12, 2014 to
the Emergency Room (ER) complaining of vomiting every 15 minutes and
abdominal pain rated at eight out of ten, on a scale where ten is the highest pain
level. J.S. described his abdominal pain as expanding from the inside of my stomach
(personal communication, January 15, 2014). J.S. was assessed and had an X ray
and Computed Tomography (CT) scan preformed while he was in the ER. The X
ray showed that his small bowel was distended as much as five to six centimeters,
and filled with air and gaseous. A CT scan of his abdomen and pelvic region showed
a narrowing of the GI tract lumen (J.S., Medical Chart, January 15, 2014). J.S. s
admitting diagnosis was a Small Bowel Obstruction (SBO), which is a form of
intestinal obstruction where the lumen of the small intestine

Write An Essay On Coqui Frog
Invasive and Dangerous: The Coqui Frog Recently, an invasive and lilliputian frog
has had a detrimental effect on the Hawaiian environment. Originally from Puerto
Rico, the amphibian arrived in Hawaii and spread like a plague. Such a small frog
cannot have that big of an impact, right? Wrong. The Coqui frogis a damaging
invasive speciesof the Hawaiian islands due to its lack of natural predators and
adaptability, dangerous eating habits, and its easy distribution among the state. One
reason the Coqui Frog is especially harmful to Hawaiis many ecosystems is because
they are adaptable and have no natural predators. For example, the Hawaii Invasive
Species Council states the frog has No natural predators to keep populations in check

According to the Hawaii Invasive Species Council, Coqui frogs do not travel very
far on their own, but when given the chance to hop on a nursery plant, flowers, or
vehicle, they can quickly spread. Most coqui arrive on new islands through
infested nursery plants and flowers. Intra island, coqui travel by the movement of
plants by humans and may hitch a ride on vehicles (Coqui). In other words, the frog
will latch on to a variety of human transportations and expand their boundaries.
Furthermore, Coquis are nocturnal, so the dissemination of the frogs is partially
affiliated with the motion and relocation of various house plants (Plant). Residents
of Hawaii are evidently a large reason the frog has the ability to grow in numbers
and located across the state. Some people when coming across the frog relocate and
release it, spreading the frog an even farther distance (which it is illegal to provide
transportation to the amphibians) (Plant). Consequently, the frog populations are
growing and will continue, unless residents of Hawaii are cooperative in reducing the
spread of the

War Essays.pdf

  • 1. War Essays Writing an essay on the topic of war is a challenging endeavor, to say the least. It's not merely about compiling historical facts or analyzing military strategies; it delves into the complex and often contentious realms of human nature, politics, ethics, and the profound impacts of conflict on societies. Firstly, there's the immense breadth of the subject matter. The history of warfare spans millennia and encompasses countless conflicts, each with its own unique context, causes, and consequences. Narrowing down this vast expanse to a manageable scope for an essay requires careful consideration and research. Then comes the sensitive nature of the topic. War evokes strong emotions and differing perspectives. Delving into discussions about the morality of war, the justifications for conflict, and the human suffering it entails demands a delicate balance of empathy, critical analysis, and respect for differing viewpoints. Furthermore, addressing the multifaceted aspects of war necessitates interdisciplinary research and a nuanced understanding of fields such as history, political science, sociology, psychology, and ethics. It's not just about recounting battles or listing casualties; it's about examining the underlying causes, the societal impacts, and the lessons learned from the tragedies of war. Moreover, crafting an essay on war requires navigating through a minefield of biases and interpretations. Historiographical debates, political agendas, and cultural perspectives can heavily influence the narrative surrounding any conflict. Separating fact from interpretation, acknowledging diverse viewpoints, and maintaining academic rigor are essential challenges in such endeavors. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of war demands intellectual rigor, emotional sensitivity, and a deep understanding of its multifaceted dimensions. It's a task that requires not only research and analytical skills but also empathy and humility in grappling with the complexities of human conflict. • 3. Increasing the Minimum Wage Will Reduce Income Inequality... No person can maximize the American Dream on the minimum wage. Benjamin Todd Jealous No family gets rich from earning the minimum wage. In fact, the current minimum wage does not even lift a family out of poverty. Jon Corzine Income inequality has been a major problem facing American society for decades, but has recently become a major concern. I personally believe the major gap between the income of the rich and poor is a not just, but is not a major concern for the government and society. If the Federal Government addresses other major concerns facing American citizens the inequality will be adjusted due to other changes. The government needs to step in and adjust minimum wage and public education. If the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only is minimum wage a major social issue that needs to be addressed in order to help appease income inequality, but also education is a huge social concern. The reason this is such a concern is because families living in low income housing neighborhoods attend low income schools and are unable to rise above, because their schools do not have the same quality funding as high income neighborhood schools or private ones. The low income schools do not have proper funding and put the students at an immediate disadvantage compared to high income neighborhood schools and private schools. I personally believe if the Federal Government supplies public schools with more than just 15% of their budget, students would not be at such a disadvantage and have a greater chance to be motivated to attend college and hopefully obtain a degree to earn a high wage job. In my education classes the teachers place a huge emphasis on making sure students are getting full educations. Meaning students start in kindergarten or a pre kindergarten program and finish high school in order to benefit society and not bring society down. The fact is the earnings of high school graduates have grown more rapidly, so that the gap between dropout and graduate earnings expanded over time, even if they do not attend college it is so important for students to graduate from high school so the inequality does not increase even more (Becker 1). Additionally, if

  • 6. Legion of Honor Essay Throughout different time periods and civilizations come many different types of art that would never be comparable to those of another time or place. There are also the pieces that come from a completely different time and place, but yet they can still be compared to one another. The Torso of a God (Egyptian, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, last decade of the reign of Amenhotep III, Granodiorite, 1359 1349 B.C.) and the Statue of Asklepios (Greek, Hellenistic period, Pentelic Marble, 2nd century B.C.) are two sculptures made hundreds of years apart, yet they both display many similarities and show how art is constantly changing whilst keeping the same core ideas. The statue shows the God in a good light and as a muscular and fit being, but at the same time is portrayed in an extremely unrealistic way. The Statue of Asklepios is a classic Greek sculpture that portrays a person of the most perfect and athletic form. The piece is of a man standing beautifully while draped in a toga. The toga is draped over his left shoulder and cuts across to the right side of his body near his lower abdomen and then continues to cover his legs until his ankle. The toga also is draped over the pieces entire back. The piece is missing his head, his left arm and both his right foot and almost its entire right arm. The piece has a smooth, but not glossy, exterior in all of the areas except for the parts that have been broken off. Asklepios is portrayed as an incredible fit and beautiful being. The abdomen is extremely muscular and shows off the miraculous fitness of the model. The toga has many wrinkles, creating a lot of shadow and darks and lights. It also is wrapped in a way that is both loose and tight in different areas of the sculpture. It is tied right next to the left pectoral and the left armpit. This piece emphasizes the muscular body of this man while at the same time portraying him standing in such a nonchalant way through the curvature and relaxed look of the figure. And unlike the Torso of a God, this piece clearly shows movement through the shape of the body and the folds of the toga because

However, global leadership was not entirely in the hands of America. Through the Cold War, America struggled with the Soviet Union for global influence and operated many regime changes in order to halt the spread of communism, the ruling political party of the Soviet Union. America would get a 20% share in Iran s oil. The share in oil would prove to be beneficial to the U.S. economy. However, during the 1970s, the Shah broke off his relationship with the U.S. through high taxation on foreign companies, and increased oil concession royalties. The Iranians also took control of the price of oil, which was a major contributing factor to the 1973 energy crisis (Ghosh). The long term effect of this regime change was the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The Shah s rule, backed by the United States, was an cruel, oppressive, and tyrannical one, and was one that sparked the rebellion of the nation. The direct impact on America s security came when a group of Iranian students seized the U.S. Embassy in Iran and took more than 50 Americans

Essay on Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides INTERTWINED BEGINNINGS: Middlesex is an outline of the life of Calliope Stephanides who grew to the age of fourteen believing that she was a girl with unnatural thoughts for the same sex. As puberty takes hold of her friends and classmates, both Calliope and her family begin to worry about the growing gap between her and the average teenage girl; this marks the beginning of a new life for Calliope who finds she is really a he. The Greek culture is very focused around the church and the history of the people; tradition is a feature of life that is highly respected. In Middlesex the family doctor, though aging, is from Greece and knows the family well; because of this he is well trusted and respected. However, because of Dr. Philobosian s age, for many years he fails to recognize Calliope s circumstance. Another explanation for Calliope s untended condition could be because in the Greek culture a woman s sexuality and related matters are kept quiet. Calliope s mother never really had a conversation with her about her development; it was just assumed that things would go as normal and sex would come after marriage, in tradition of course. Ultimately, for Greeks, it is not sexuality in general but women s sexuality in particular that is feared and must be controlled . (Schott, p. 23). The Greek culture s historical belief that women are the

It has altered the way individuals communicate with one another. Looking through social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, can cause a person to feel connected to a greater number of people within society. Social networks have become a part of people s daily lifestyles. People do not think anything of it due to numerous individuals having social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, that are checked and updated every day. Because of the autonomy afforded by the virtual world, individuals are free to create a fantasy persona and can pretend to be someone else (Cosmato). It is difficult to reject, be disrespectful, or avoid somebody in person. It is very simple and fast to delete somebody as a friend or unfollow somebody to stop them from trying to build a connection. Just one click and your issues are over. Sadly, this trait of the social networks trick people out of the chance to learn how to solve issues in the world exterior of the internet and it could weaken a person s social skills. Teenagers are at greater risk of harm because they are supposed to be taught how to communicate with others and learn how to create and sustain relationships. A report from the National School Boards Association shows that of the children in these age groups that use a social network, 41 percent spend their time posting messages. They are not spending this time in face to face interactions with their peers or others (Cosmato). Social networks have made people feel disconnected to the person on the other end of the line than if they were communicating in person. The relationships formed online are less strong than relationships that are formed in person through conversation. Facebook is harmful to society s social lives because we can just go to somebody s page, say hello, and
  • 13. Public School Funding For Public Schools Most people believe that students do better in well funded schools and that public education should provide a level playing field for children. Nearly half of the funding for public schools in the United States, however, is provided through local taxes, generating large differences in funding between wealthy and impoverished communities (National Center for Education Statistics, 2000a). Efforts to reduce these disparities have provoked controversy and resistance. Public school funding the United States comes from federal, state, and local sources, but because nearly half of those funds come from local property taxes, the system generates large funding differences between wealthy and impoverished communities. Such differences exist among states, among school districts within each state, and even among schools within specific districts. In 1998, for example, the state with the highest average level of public school funding was New Jersey, with an annual funding rate of $8,801 per student, whereas the state with the lowest average level was Utah, with a yearly rate of $3,804 per student. This means that the typical student attending a public school in New Jersey was provided more than twice the fiscal resources allocated to his or her counterpart in Utah. Disparities in per student funding levels are actually greater within some states than among states as a group. To illustrate, in 1998, public school districts in Alaska that were ranked at the 95th percentile for per student

In the play Blood Brothers Willy Russell explores the differences between a working class family and a middle class family during the downturn of industry in Liverpool in the 1960 and 70 s, resulting in The Recession in the early 1980 s. There is a twist on the fact that they are just two opposite class families Mickey and Edward. They are two genetically identical twins; however Mickey was brought up in a working class family and Eddie in a middle classfamily. By using these two complete extremes, Russell has explored the history of the British class system in a very extreme way. Seeing the different class upbringings teaches us about Nature vs. Nurture in society. Russell chooses to open Blood Brothers with a Narrator speaking a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This obviously immediately gives us the impression that Edward is from a middle or upper class family because he uses so much formal language, even when saying bad things. By using this strong language in their first meeting it gives the audience a clear view of the extremes in the classes. The audience can find the first meeting quite funny because the actors play the two extremes in quite humorous ways. Initially this can make the difference in class seem quite a light subject when really, as we find out later in the play, it is an enormously important subject. I think Russell is positively biased towards Mickey in this first meeting of the boys, possibly because Mickey is from a lower class family and so was Russell. I think Russell is biased because Mickey is bragging for the small things he loves to play with. However, even though Edward probably has more than Mickey he doesn t make a show of it. Russell has made this first meeting a very bold statement, as the boy s don t seem to show a difference between each other in this first scene, they seem like two, normal, seven year old friends even though the difference between the two classes is very obvious. I think this helps to introduce the differences lightly to draw the audience in, so that they are ready for the drama that comes, later on in the play. As the boys grow older, their different classes become more significant to the play. Edward goes off to

Including my interactions with people as our programs are winding down and the unexpected realities of what was going on outside of the camp. In this week I experienced; upward social comparison, availability heuristic, mortality salience and social cognition. Upward social comparison I participated in a panel discussing the benefits of advanced placement classes. In my discussion of my personal experiences, I talked about comparing myself to my more intelligent classmates. In high school I felt like I was not as mart as my classmates. I discussed how it made me work harder, I wanted to be at what I perceived was a higher level. The example in the book mentioned studies of people using upward social comparison to motivate themselves to success (pg. 86). As mentioned by the text upwards social comparison can be a positive tool for motivation. The textbook also spoke about the dangers of comparing yourself with others if a person does not believe they can reach what they are aspiring to be. I recognize what the danger in upward social comparison could be, it would be hard to process failure if you lived your entire life comparing yourself to others. I do not know if I thought I could reach what I was comparing myself to, but I believe I benefited from the push. Eventually, I no longer relied the comparison. Chaos In The Sound And The Fury William Faulkner s novel, The Sound and the Fury, exemplifies the very meaning of an internal conflict between order and chaos through the forlorn and tragic character, Quentin Compson. Although Quentin is displayed with an outward appearance that can be described as orderly, it is apparent through his chaotic thoughts that he is overwhelmed by his ardent views on the Compson family s honor, which was destroyed when Caddy lost her virginity. Throughout Quentin s section, the descriptions of his present day to day actions show how he lives a life that has order, with an average person s problems. He narrates with a calm and controlled tone at times, I bathed and shaved... I put on my new suit... (Faulkner 51). These everyday actions are a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He so fervently wished to cleanse the family name of its impurities as well as Caddy of her impurity by suggesting that the both of them commit a double suicide. For his obsession to restore order to go this far could mean that Quentin is controlled by his twisted and far over the top sense of honor, which is also the root cause of his suffering and anguish, of his confusion and mental upheaval. He desires for order, and at times maintains it, but his mental instability overwhelms whatever order exists in his life by a large margin which results in his eventual demise. His interactions with and thoughts of Caddy often lead him to extreme actions, which can be seen in the moment when he jumped on Gerald after thinking back to his altercation with Dalton Ames, Did I hurt him any? (Faulkner 104). The flurry of thoughts in his mind are so potent that they end up affecting how he acts outside of his mind, leading him to do crazy things such as fighting a guy who was way out of his level of fighting experience. His instability is dangerous, and something to consider is that perhaps he walks in isolation because he wishes to avoid running into any possible triggers that make him

  • 39. David Fletcher Case Study Essay Why did Fletcher s first attempt to build a team fail? When the environment for portfolio management changed and as Fletcher began being overwhelmed with research, he sought to create a team of analysts that could assist him with his work. Fletcher failed to build this team on his first attempt as a result of several causes. There were multiple mistakes that Fletcher made that can be seen in his interactions with people. The first was his assistant Whitley which he had a close relationship with. Before Fletcher hired Doyle, he did it hastily without consulting Whitley. The lack of consent and thought for how he would fit into the company s culture showed when tension grew between Doyle and Whitley. This led to unproductive work as ... Even though this might have taken Fletcher more time to build his team, it could have been more effective in the long run if he hired analysts with less experience but more open thinking. An example of how this worked was with Whitley, who Fletcher molded into a portfolio manager. From a broader approach, issues can be seen in Fletcher s management style. Not only was it disorganized, but he spent most of his time focusing on his work, not his team. This however was of course his nature. From The Five Minds of a Manager Fletcher did not display all of the managerial mindsets required to be successful. The most important was that he lacked the collaborative mindset. Fletcher not only lacked an engaging personality towards his team s problems, but he didn t consider the relationships among people. He thought that as long as a person could perform their job, then that was all that mattered. Getting along to him was not crucial. Of course, this is the exact opposite thinking of the collaborative mindset which fosters teamwork and strong relationships. There were some things that Fletcher did do well. For one, he began to have the reflective mindset at the end by pondering as to how to create an effective team. This shows that not only is he thinking about what has happened, but he may be starting to step

The three main types of muscle within the human body are smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is the only type which is under voluntary control, and attach to bones in order to move the skeleton [1]. The body contains many muscles, each responsible for moving a different aspect of the skeleton. The Biceps brachii and the triceps brachii are two main muscles located in the upper limb. Others notice results after a series of treatments. Another positive aspect of acupuncture is that it generally causes few or no side effects either during or after treatment. Despite the fact that treatment sessions involve piercing the skin with needles, the needles used are extremely thin, and thus their insertion does not cause pain in most patients. It is also rare for patients to experience effects such as bruising or soreness following a treatment. Many find that the price of treatments is a major disadvantage to using acupuncture for pain management. Often, multiple treatments are needed before one s pain begins to diminish. As it is generally considered a form of alternative or complementary medicine, acupuncture may not be covered by one s health insurance, and thus can be costly. Further, acupuncture is not guaranteed to reduce pain, and a significant number of patients find that it has no noticeable effect. In fact, medical researchers are still uncertain as to why acupuncture lessens pain in some individuals. Based on comparative studies of groups receiving acupuncture and those receiving a mock treatment, it seems that the technique s success or failure may be partly due to psychological factors. Finally, using acupuncture for pain management can lead

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Hawaii Invasive Species Council, Coqui frogs do not travel very far on their own, but when given the chance to hop on a nursery plant, flowers, or vehicle, they can quickly spread. Most coqui arrive on new islands through infested nursery plants and flowers. Intra island, coqui travel by the movement of plants by humans and may hitch a ride on vehicles (Coqui). In other words, the frog will latch on to a variety of human transportations and expand their boundaries. Furthermore, Coquis are nocturnal, so the dissemination of the frogs is partially affiliated with the motion and relocation of various house plants (Plant). Residents of Hawaii are evidently a large reason the frog has the ability to grow in numbers and located across the state. Some people when coming across the frog relocate and release it, spreading the frog an even farther distance (which it is illegal to provide transportation to the amphibians) (Plant). Consequently, the frog populations are growing and will continue, unless residents of Hawaii are cooperative in reducing the spread of the
