This document proposes a voice-based farmers portal that would provide agricultural information to farmers via voice interaction rather than requiring literacy or internet access. It describes VoiceXML, the W3C standard for building voice applications. The existing system of getting farm information through newspapers, TV, radio and service centers is inefficient. The proposed voice portal would offer modules on selecting crops, crop management, banking/marketing, and expert suggestions to address this problem by providing sufficient information to illiterate farmers anytime via voice. It requires a PC and Windows operating system to run the Oracle and Java-based system.
