Voice over IP (VoIP) is a methodology and group of technologies for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Other terms commonly associated with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, broadband telephony, and broadband phone service.
Questions for VoIP Installers
What Is a VOIP Telephone?
A VoIP telephone is a VoIP (Voice over IP) phone that uses an internet connection to place and receive calls, rather than using a traditional telephone line. VoIP phones are becoming increasingly popular, as they offer a number of advantages over traditional landline phones. These phones can be used with any broadband internet connection, making them very versatile. VoIP phones also offer a number of features that are not available with traditional landline phones. For instance, caller ID, call waiting, voicemail, and three-way calling. VoIP phones are also generally less expensive than traditional landline phones. Our VOIP Installers here at NM Cabling are here to guide you through the design, installation and after care of your system.

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) transmits voice and multimedia content over an internet connection. VoIP allows users to make voice calls from a computer, smartphone, other mobile devices, special VoIP phones and WebRTC-enabled browsers. VoIP is a valuable technology for consumers and businesses, as it typically includes additional features that can't be found on standard phone services. These features include call recording, custom caller ID, and voicemail to e-mail. It is also helpful to organizations as a way to unify communications.
The process works similarly to a regular phone, but VoIP uses an internet connection instead of a telephone company's wiring. VoIP is enabled by a group of technologies and methodologies to deliver voice communications over the internet, including enterprise local area networks or wide area networks.
A VoIP service will convert a user's voice from audio signals to digital data and then send that data through the internet. If another user calls from a regular phone number, the signal is converted back to a telephone signal before reaching that user.
VoIP can also route incoming and outgoing calls through existing telephone networks. However, some VoIP services may only work over a computer or VoIP phone.

Voice over Internet Protocol with Novel Applicationsirjes
Internet Telephony, often denoted as Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP), has gained more and
more attention world-wide during the last decades. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology has become
a communication alternative with the continuous increasing of Internet bandwidth and rapid advancement of
peer-to-peer (P2P) applications. In this paper three types of VOIP are explained: (i) PC to PC : this is the easiest
way to use VOIP, which enables you to talk and communicate Voice over Internet with all people over the
world. (ii) PC to Phone: which need a gateway that connects IP Network to phone Network. Its uses a device
called an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adaptor). The ATA allows you to connect a standard phone to your
computer or your Internet connection for use with VOIP. The ATA is an analogue to digital converter. (iii)
Phone to Phone: Where you need more gateways that connect IP network to phone networks, more phone
networks that connect Telephone set to gateway, and IP network that connect gateway to gateway. This paper
also explains Internet Protocol (IP) that VOIP uses to transmit voice as packets over an IP network as follows:
H.323 Protocols that provides the technical requirements for voice communication over LANs, while assuming
that Quality of Service isn't provided by LANs. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) standard which is the standard
for establishing VOIP connections. This paper also explores Voice XML which is a markup language derived
from XML for writing telephone-based speech applications. In this paper also VoiceXML developed
environments(Gateways) are explained, where a list of all VoiceXML developers is included, and the most
popular VoiceXML development environments (Gateways) are explained in details. Finally, in this paper ten

conversations digitally over the
Internet.

4. What is VoIP…….?
Voice over Internet Protocol
(VoIP) is an emerging set of
applications which allows you to
make telephone calls over the
Internet
VoIP is a great money saver for
both businesses and residential
users
VoIP equipment includes a
broadband modem and an ATA
(Analog Telephone Adapter) or IP
phone.
5. Surprisingly the same as most
mobile phones today…!
Take your analogue voice and
digitises it and then send it via a
carrier.. Mobile phones use GSM
and VOIP uses IP network.. Hence
Voice Over IP.
So instead of the phone breaking up
your voice and sending it over the
air, VOIP breaks it up and sends it
over the internet.
So if you can use a mobile you can use
VOIP.. As for call quality.. Generally
similar to a mobile phone call. Like
mobiles though it can vary.
6.
7. Ways of using VoIP
Using your home phone:
Using your regular phone and an
adapter,
Using an IP phone:
When using a special IP phone, you
don't need a separate ATA.
Everything you need to use you r
broadband internet connection
Connect using your computer:
If your computer has speakers,
microphone, a sound card, and a high
speed internet connection you can use
your computer for VoIP.
8. Technology
Audio is converted to digital by a process
called encoding. This is the “voice” part of
VoIP. Once audio is encoded, it can be
transported via electronic means, such as
the internet. There are rules, or protocols,
that have been established for exchanging
information over the Internet, the basis of
which is called Internet Protocol, thus the
“IP” in VoIP.
VoIP is becoming popular as more and
more people utilize broadband technology.
Broadband technology is a large capacity
data connection to your home or office that
is “always on”. Examples are internet
service provided by cable or digital
subscriber line (DSL).
9. Technology
Internet Protocol describes, among other
things, how data is broken up into packets,
addressed, and transported. In this way,
you can use a single network to transport
many kinds of data at the same time. For
example, someone can be surfing the web
while another person is having a VoIP
connection.
10.
11. Features
Improved audio robustness
Parked calls automatically return if left
unattended
Personal contacts can be called with
specific services — for increased savings on
long distance costs
Voice commands. Use voice-activated
commands to dial, transfer, and retrieve
calls. You can also ask for the company
directory or for free directory assistance.
12. Features
• Voice dialing: Use your voice, instead of
your phone keypad, to call contacts. This
hands-free solution eliminates the need to
memorize and press numerous key
sequences.
• Call routing options. Choose how
incoming calls are answered. You can have
the Automated Receptionist, official
receptionist, or multiple users, route calls
when they come into your business
• Call status. Check in-call and parked-call
status from the Assistant by viewing status
indicators..
• Park music. Play an audio file callers will
hear as they wait in park.
