Questions for VoIP Installers
What Is a VOIP Telephone?
A VoIP telephone is a VoIP (Voice over IP) phone that uses an internet connection to place and
receive calls, rather than using a traditional telephone line. VoIP phones are becoming increasingly
popular, as they offer a number of advantages over traditional landline phones. These phones can
be used with any broadband internet connection, making them very versatile. VoIP phones also offer
a number of features that are not available with traditional landline phones. For instance, caller ID,
call waiting, voicemail, and three-way calling. VoIP phones are also generally less expensive than
traditional landline phones. Our VOIP Installers here at NM Cabling are here to guide you through
the design, installation and after care of your system.
How does a VOIP Telephone work?
When Internet protocol was designed, the initial purpose was for data networking. As technology
advanced Internet Protocol advanced to voice transmission by enabling the protocols for voice
networking. Prior to this, installations and terminations of data & telephones were separate.
VOIP telephone systems allow voice calls to be made over the internet instead of traditional phone
lines. This is accomplished by encoding the voice signal into digital packets and transmitting them
over the internet. At the receiving end, the packets are decoded and the caller's voice is heard
through the receiver.
VOIP systems use digital technology to transmit calls, meaning that there is no need for a
physical PABX unit. Furthermore, VOIP technology means, there's no longer any need for individual
phone cables running to each phone socket. As a result, this allows for a number of other features,
such as the ability to have multiple extensions on a single phone, or to make and receive calls from
your computer or mobile phone.
Using existing cabling for VoIP system
VOIP systems do not require a lot of bandwidth, so most existing cabling can be used. However,
there are a number of things that must be considered to ensure your system works to its full
potential with no faults.
If you are looking to use the existing cables in your office, it's important to make sure that your
existing data cabling is up to standard. For example, the cables must be terminated onto RJ45
outlets and patch panels in accordance with the relevant standards of installation. In addition, you
must also look at test result issued when your initial infrastructure was installed. The test report will
show you the quality of your installation and data speeds. Furthermore, the installer should submit a
report for each outlet. Without this information, you'll not know if the structured cabling is up to the
correct standards.
VOIP Installers - Poor Installation
There are a number of potential issues that can be caused by poor installation of a VOIP system.
These can include:
 Poor call quality.
 Echo's.
 Crackling.
 Delays.
 Drop Outs.
 Difficulty connecting to the VOIP network.
 VOIP system not working properly.
 Incompatibility with other devices or systems.
If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is important to contact a VOIP installer who can help
you troubleshoot the problem and get your system up and running properly.
As qualified VOIP Installers, we recommend our clients to use Cat6 or Cat6a cables. One of the main
reasons we recommend these cables is to ensure your infrastructure is future proofed for higher
speeds and new technology. Furthermore, If you are installing a new VOIP system, it is
recommended to use these cables to ensure compatibility with other devices on the network.
VOIP Installers - Advantages of VOIP
Cost - VOIP is often much less expensive than traditional phone lines. This is because VOIP uses the
internet to make calls. Typically, this is cheaper than using a phone line. In addition, VOIP often
comes with a number of features that are included in the price, such as voicemail, caller ID, call
waiting, etc.
Flexibility - VOIP systems are very flexible. They can be easily customized to meet the needs of any
business. For instance, you can add or remove features as needed, or even change your phone
number if you move to a new location.
Scalability - VOIP systems can be easily scaled up or down to meet the changing needs of your
business. For example, if you experience a period of high call volume, you can simply add more lines
to your VOIP system to accommodate the increased demand.
Portability - VOIP systems are portable, which means you can take your VOIP system with you if you
move to a new location. This is because VOIP uses the internet to make calls. So as long as you have
an internet connection, you can use your VOIP system.
Improved Call Quality - VOIP calls are typically much clearer than traditional phone calls. This is
because VOIP uses digital signals instead of analogue signals, which are more prone to static and
interference.
VOIP systems also often come with several features that can improve call quality, such as echo
cancellation and noise reduction.
These are just a few of the advantages of VOIP systems. If you are considering VOIP for your
business, we recommend that you contact our sales team to learn more about the benefits of VOIP
and how it can be customized to meet your specific needs.

Questions for VoIP Installers.docx

  • 1. Questions for VoIP Installers What Is a VOIP Telephone? A VoIP telephone is a VoIP (Voice over IP) phone that uses an internet connection to place and receive calls, rather than using a traditional telephone line. VoIP phones are becoming increasingly popular, as they offer a number of advantages over traditional landline phones. These phones can be used with any broadband internet connection, making them very versatile. VoIP phones also offer a number of features that are not available with traditional landline phones. For instance, caller ID, call waiting, voicemail, and three-way calling. VoIP phones are also generally less expensive than traditional landline phones. Our VOIP Installers here at NM Cabling are here to guide you through the design, installation and after care of your system. How does a VOIP Telephone work? When Internet protocol was designed, the initial purpose was for data networking. As technology advanced Internet Protocol advanced to voice transmission by enabling the protocols for voice networking. Prior to this, installations and terminations of data & telephones were separate. VOIP telephone systems allow voice calls to be made over the internet instead of traditional phone lines. This is accomplished by encoding the voice signal into digital packets and transmitting them over the internet. At the receiving end, the packets are decoded and the caller's voice is heard through the receiver. VOIP systems use digital technology to transmit calls, meaning that there is no need for a physical PABX unit.
