VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) allows users to make phone calls using an Internet connection instead of a regular phone line. It works by converting voice into digital signals that travel over the Internet. There are different options for using VoIP, including specialized VoIP phones, connecting a traditional phone to a VoIP adapter, or using computer software with a microphone and speakers. VoIP can provide free or low-cost phone calls and additional functionality compared to traditional phone service.

2. • VOIP is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol, or
in more common terms phone service over the Internet.
• Refers to the communication protocols, technologies,
methodologies, and transmission techniques involved in
the delivery of voice communications and multimedia
sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as
the Internet.

3. VoIP can turn a standard Internet connection into a way to
place free phone calls.
The practical upshot of this is that by using some of the
free VoIP software that is available to make Internet phone
calls, you're bypassing the phone company (and its
charges) entirely.

travels over the Internet. If you are calling a regular phone
number, the signal is converted to a regular telephone signal
before it reaches the destination
• The interesting thing about VoIP is that there is not just one
way to place a call. There are three different "flavors" of VoIP

computer or your Internet connection for use with VoIP
• IP Phones -- These specialized phones look just like normal phones
with a handset, cradle and buttons. But instead of having the standard
RJ-11 phone connectors, IP phones have an RJ-45 Ethernet
connector.
• Computer-to-computer . All you need is the software, a
microphone, speakers, a sound card and an Internet
connection, preferably a fast one like you would get through a cable or
DSL modem
