- #3 Hi I’m João Marcelo, I will explain how VMware is a good way to sell Softlayer for some specifics workload and clients This the agenda for today, I separated in 2 areas, the first is about the virtualization concepts and vmware features and the second one is about why and how sell this for our customers… and of course… why this is a good deal for the client
- #4 so… what is virtualization? virtualization is a capacity to create more than one virtual server in on bare metal server! the first image (traditional architecture) is the 1 to 1 server… thats means… one windows for one bare metal or one linux for one bare metal the second figure is an virtualization architecture… or 1 for many… one bare metal for any virtual server or operation systems ) you can run at the bare metal… of course… respecting the “physical capacity of the baremetal"
- #5 and why use virtual machines…. first off all… you can partitioning a baremetal into many severs
- #6 second… this virtual servers are segregated or this virtual servers are isolated and it’s respecting all secured requirements… one virtual server doesn’t communicate with other… in other words.. the virtual serves acting as a real servers in a networking environment.
- #7 from the storage perspective … Virtual machines is just a file server in a Storage… that means we can copy, take snapshots and move the workload between datacenter without care about crash a server or have to transport an bare metal between datacenter
- #8 this figure … explain that… because the virtual machines is just a file, you can move it between baremetals, even if you have a different kind of hardware into bare metals
- #10 why vmware… VMware was founded in 1998 and have huge market share , some papers said around sixty percent one feature pushed vmware is the hardware HA… with some baremetal crash… the vmware scheduler have the capacity to move the virtual server to another available bare metal
- #11 this same idea is used for the most famous VMware feature… the VMotion The vmotion is the capability of VMware to move the virtual server for another bare metal server without turnoff the virtual server…i mean … the vmware can move the server in a hot mode to another bare metal , this is a good idea when the customer have a very critical services running at virtual machines, but need to patch
- #12 this is the same vmotion but for latency up to 100ms of round time trip…
- #13 in the same way sometime do you have to patch bare metal… the customer have to patch storage too.. so… the customer can mode the server between storages
- #14 the vmware can in a actively way… move the network workload between the physical network interface to balance the torughput without compromise the virtual servers
- #15 and vmware can do that for storage too
- #16 vmware connector is a way to create a hybrid cloud between the customer on premise VMware envirionment and soft layer this is a product inside the vmware… and we probably will schedule an another presentation to talk only about this product

- #19 so.. if you sum the price of licence plus the year subscription you will expand around 4 thousand dollar and if you divide this value for 12 months … the month cost wil bee around 3 hundred dolars and half for month if you did that same calc for 5 years
