Private Modular Cloud
Private Cloud
 Rapidly implemented pattern-based cloud
deployment where cloud becomes the
workload
 Option of IBM, OEM or open source cloud
management software stacks
 Option of IBM, SoftLayer or Client HW
 200-plus Application patterns
(App, MW & DB)
Private Shared Cloud
 Requires a highly built out and resilient
infrastructure
 More suited to traditional three-tier application
models, (App, MW and DB)
 Typical application being SAP, Oracle ERP
solutions
 Less reliance on a highly built out
infrastructure
 Resiliency is built into the application layer
 More suited to web-centric and native
cloud programming environments
 Typical applications; DIGITAS, NETBASE
media solutions, 10gen and mongoDB
business analytics solutions

Editor's Notes

  • #3 The typical configuration for Cloud is one that will combine both public (eg Softlayer) and private cloud options. Within 5 years, analysts are predicting that 43% of cloud implementations will be hybrid and where more sensitive workloads are hosted on a private cloud, inside the network, and on the customers premise, whilst less sensitive workloads will be hosted on private clouds Hybrid clouds give the customer the best of both worlds and enable customers to manage risks, costs and use cases. IBM is one of the only vendors who can offer a true end to end cloud offering by being able to deliver on both public and private cloud models.
  • #4 Our PMC offering is a Cloud solution which delivers an agnostic private cloud architecture model to deliver ‘Platform as a Service’, or in other words a cloud platform which is ready for users to consume. Public clouds are considered ‘Infrastructure as a Service’ as the offering delivers an infrastructure layer, however this is not ready for users to consume as the cloud and virtualisation middleware and software components still need to be designed, tested and implemented.
  • #5 Automation is a key differentiator with the PMC cloud solution Automation is used to build the cloud platform and delivers a fully functional cloud platform (ie, platform as a service) in as little as 20 days – as opposed to 6 months if one was to design and build a private cloud from the ground up Once implemented, virtual machines can be stood up in minutes as opposed to weeks if undertaken manually. Two features of PMC enable the above: ‘Cloudmaker’ an IBM patented tool used to build the private cloud ‘Patterns’ or over 200 pre packaged software and middleware which have been programmed for automated installation
  • #6 PMC delivers a agnostic platform meaning that a number of products can be implemented and used at the various layers, further, the solution is platform agnostic and can be installed on non IBM hardware and public cloud platforms such as Softlayer This approach enables alignment and protection to any investments our customer may have made in relation to middleware or hardware
  • #7 PMC delivers a user friendly dashboard which enables simplified provisioning, de-provisioning and management of virtual machines. It also provides workflow to ensure virtual machine requests are validated and approved, and where appropriate charged back to a particular department
  • #8 Juniper integration enables Juniper solutioning and hardware to be provisioned as part of the platform. PMC has what we call a ‘Configurator’ which is used by our solutioning team to configure a private cloud instance – this ‘Configurator’ will also size and deliver a bill of materials /SKU’s for the Juniper hardware and services. Sample above
  • #9 Not only can IBM implement a private cloud and the associated infrastructure, we can provide an on going managed service on both the cloud and infrastructure components with services delivered against ITIL (v3) and IBM global best practices. Services are based on fixed cost /per month Services include client access to a reporting and activity portal providing full visibility to operating platform operating parameters and services status.
