2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2. WHAT IS VIRTUAL ASSISTANT?
•A Virtual Assistant is generally self-employed
and provides professional administrative,
technical, or creative assistance to clients
remotely from a home office.
3. •Those people or employee who work from
home called VA (Virtual Assistant) because
VIRTUAL is in the internet and ASSISTANT
means assisting company. VA is not
assistant like PA (Personal Assistant)
because Personal Assistant is a job title
describing a person who assists a specific
person with their daily business or personal
4. REASONS TO HIRE A VIRTUAL
ASSISTANT
•1. Lower your cost of doing business
•The number one reason why businesses hire
virtual assistants is to lower their costs. It
has been estimated that hiring a Virtual
Assistant over a Full-Time Employee or (FTE)
will save you 78% in operating costs per year.
5. •Why? Because virtual assistants are self-
employed; they own their own enterprise
which is the virtual assistance business. This
means they are accountable for all of the
expenses they incur in the conduct of their
services.
6. •When you hire a Virtual Assistant, you don’t
pay additional benefits, allocate rental space
for work, subscribe to higher Internet
bandwidth or incur incremental expenses in
utilities.
7. 2. INCREASE YOUR LEVEL OF
PRODUCTIVITY
•Hiring a Virtual Assistant is a double-edged
sword in achieving profitability because not
only does the strategy lower business cost but
it also increases productivity.
8. HIRING VIRTUAL ASSISTANTS OR THOSE
WHO WORK FROM THEIR HOMES INCREASE
PRODUCTIVITY FOR TWO REASONS:
•It affords you more time to focus or attend
to core functions that demand your
expertise.
•Virtual assistants today are more skilled
9. 3. IMPROVE EFFICIENCY
•Hiring virtual assistants also improve
efficiency because you get more work
done in less time and cost. 87.7% of
virtual assistants are paid on a productive
hour basis. This means they will only be
compensated when they have
10. •By comparison, a full-time employee is paid
a fixed rate per hour per day as mandated
by law. This means that in a typical 8-hour
work shift, you will have to pay the
employee his hourly wage whether it is
productive or not. In a study by business
coach, Steve Pavlina, he revealed that the
average office worker only accounts for 90
11. •Since virtual assistants have previous work
experience, they require minimal training
time. You can get them to work right away
without having to worry much about
mistakes and common issues faced with
first-time office employees.
12. 4. ADD BUSINESS FLEXIBILITY
•Majority of people who make the transition
to the virtual assistance work do so because
of flexibility. They want to manage their own
time so they can be with their families and
attend to other aspects of their respective
lives.
13. •But the advantage of having flexibility goes
both ways. Because virtual assistants do not
follow rigidly structured work schedules, you
can designate them to manage work hours
that would be beneficial to your business.
14. •For example, if you plan to have 24-7
customer service, you can hire virtual
assistants from different parts of the world
to manage shifts throughout your workday.
The time zone differentials will work in your
favor. All customer service issues can be
effectively attended to as they come in.
15. 5. ACHIEVE BALANCE IN LIFE!
•Perhaps the only unquantifiable value of
hiring a Virtual Assistant is he or she can
help you achieve balance in life simply by
affording you the benefit of time. With
trusted virtual assistants in place, you can be
like Tim Ferris and explore the world while
16. “VIRTUAL ASSISTANT” CAN DO;
•Social Media Marketing
•Transcription
•Writing task
•Public profile creation and managing.
18. BENEFITS OF HIRING A VIRTUAL
ASSISTANT
•1. VA saves you time
•Obviously, virtual assistants may save time
for you by handling tasks you need to be
done without interfering with the tasks your
employees need to focus on.
19. •Many of these tasks includes organizing
and managing your emails, addressing
support requests, phone messages, and
social media posts. Your company can run
smoothly without unwanted interruptions
due to scheduling the calendar and other
tasks needed to be done in a regular
20. 2. VA SAVES YOU MONEY
•Having a VA saves you office space, and you
don't need to put another person on your
payroll. You also do not need to purchase
new equipment like computers or
telephones. Your VA will also not require
you to pay additional taxes, benefits and
21. 3. VA SAVES YOU HEADACHES
CEOs must have a clear vision for the future and goal
setting abilities, but these important tasks are often
overshadowed by busy work that can be handled by
your VA. VAs can handle all those tedious daily tasks
you need to attend to so you can focus on growth. VAs
can decrease your daily headaches, and help you keep
everything organized to keep your business running
smoothly. As a CEO, when you feel confident that
everything is operating smoothly in the background,
22. 4. VA CAN MAKE YOUR FIXED
COST VARIABLE
•Companies still hire administrative assistants who gets a
regular payroll - even during quiet times. But VAs are often
available to work only when you need them, and they only
get paid for the work they've done. Everything you're
outsourcing to a VA is a function that you're not hiring a
salaried employee to perform. And it's not just manpower
either. Why should your business pay for the latest
computers and software? Instead, by outsourcing
administrative tasks to a VA, you don't have to pay the
price of obsolescence, which can be extremely high in the
23. ADVANTAGES OF BECOMING A
VA:
•No need to commute- Save up to 20% of your
income in working from home.
•Enjoy a less stressful work life and a more
comfortable work stress.
•Possible productivity gains.
•You can wake up and sleep on times when you
24. •You didn’t spend much on meals because
home cook food was cheaper and best
serve together with your family.
•You didn’t need to spend much on cloths,
make ups, bags, shoes etc. You don’t need
that at all. When you’re at home you can
wear the simplest attire in your closets. No
one cares if you look out date or “Baduy”.
25. •You can see and watch your family
whenever you can
•All your savings from your travelling
expenses was converted payment for your
internet connections and utilities
expenses.
•You can have a break time whenever you
can.
26. •You never have to look for another job,
because you have created your own.
•You set your own schedule, including
vacations and days off.
•You can choose to earn more or less
money depending on how much you are
willing to work.
•As a virtual business you can work from
27. DISADVANTAGE:
•Communication
•Because you work from home, with all the
inherent distractions of being at home. That
includes kids, housework, pets, TV, the
garden, online games and Googling
yourself.
28. •You don’t have a job, which means no
salary, no benefits and no vacation pay.
•You set your own schedule, but work
according to your client needs, which may
mean you are up until 3:00am to meet a
deadline.
•You can make as much money as you are
willing to work for, but it is way too easy
to work way too much and burn out.
