 Student logging and behavior analyzed in introductory
programming courses
 Predictions of students’ performance based on data
collected in their computing courses
 Metrics to quantify the rate of student errors and detect if
he or she is struggling with important programming
concepts
 Analysing the process data of students to introduce
students' patterns of programming
 Main issue
 Computational aspects of learning analytics must be well
integrated within the existing educational research

conditions

  1. My name is Félix Buendía and I’m a lecturer in the Computing school at UPV. I will present a work concerning an instructional perspective of learning analytics in the context of computing education courses.
  2. Let me start by introducing the role of learning analytics in a context of Computer Science (CS) Education that has focused mainly on programming courses Main issue: we have to take into account the educational context in which LA techniques are applied.
  3. Then, the current proposal is based on first, identifiy those educational features and instructional conditions in a computing teaching context and second, select data sources according to these features and conditions

  6. To finish my presentation I will conclude by remarking the high number and diversity of academic information sources that are involved in any kind of practical activities. We don’t have an institutional dashboard able to provide us LA measures so we have to build them
