What is Videoconferencing?
Also called Interactive Television or ITV
Live video connection between two or more locations for
communication or interaction
Uses IP or ISDN
Needs special equipment
Cost continues to decrease

Characteristics of Videoconferencing
Business quality video, not broadcast quality
Sound delay
Sharing documents or presentation—not the best quality
When the microphone is on, camera moves to last sound
heard
How is it used at BTC?
Radiologic Technology—1997-2013
Collaborate with colleagues at other institutions on a
regular basis.
Conducting meetings between groups based
at different locations—statewide meetings

Job Interviews
How to be a Moderator
Schedule with BTC Library (Barb Satushek)
minimum of two weeks in advance
Gather ITV technical contact information
from each participant
Communicate with participants and send
reminder
Arrive 15-30 minutes early
Start with a role call and sound check
Make sure everyone knows how to mute
and unmute the microphone. May need to
remind participants
Troubleshoot—hang up and call again
Have everyone mute their mics
Have participants call their local
technician
Asides do not work. Camera will focus on
you every time you speak.
How to be a Participant
Arrive early
Adjust your camera angle
Test your microphone
Mute your microphone when not speaking
If there are many locations connected, start by stating
your name and institution
Remember the delay between speaking and hearing.
Act as if the camera is always on you.
Mute your microphone
