Venmo is a smartphone payment application that allows users to easily send and request money from friends through a simple four-click process. It was founded in 2009 and acquired by Braintree for $26.2 million in 2012 and then by PayPal for $800 million in 2013. Venmo processes billions of dollars in payments annually and generates revenue through a 3% fee on merchant transactions. It has been very successful due to its simplicity, network effects among college students, and integration with Facebook.

To contend with insurgent competitors, regulatory mandates and demanding consumer requirements, banks must embrace open APIs that enable them to plug-and-play in the digital business ecosystem and reinforce their value proposition amid escalating share-of-wallet challenges.
RFM stands for Recency, Frequency, and Monetary value, each corresponding to some key customer trait. These RFM metrics are important indicators of a customer’s behavior because frequency and monetary value affects a customer’s lifetime value, and recency affects retention, a measure of engagement.
RFM analysis helps marketers find answers to the following questions:
Who are your best customers?
Which of your customers could contribute to your churn rate?
Who has the potential to become valuable customers?
Which of your customers can be retained?
Which of your customers are most likely to respond to engagement campaigns?

Brazil is the largest economy in Latin America with the largest population. Banking in Brazil seems well developed on paper - banking penetration little higher than the global average and extensive branch network.
But, Brazillian (and other Latin American countries) banks charge considerably higher interest margin when compared with the USA and China. Banks could get away with maintaining a high return on equity despite having high overhead costs because of the oligopolistic market structure in the Brazillian banking industry. As of 2018, the five largest banks in Brazil controlled more than 80% of the household credit market.
David Vélez, who was a partner at the Sequoia Capital, saw this opportunity. He founded EO2 Solucoes de Pagamento (EO2 Payment Solutions) along with Cristina Junqueira and Edward Wible in 2013. Soon the company was named Nubank.
Today Nubank has more than 26 million customers across Latin America and is valued at US$25 billion as of January 2021. The company offers digital accounts for individuals and businesses along with credit cards and life insurance.

India recently kicked off the Data Empowerment architecture, a framework for consented data sharing across the financial sector. This allows Nandini (Persona) to share data on her business’ regular invoices or GST payments seamlessly and securely.
Any bank or NBFC can now offer a regular stream of small-ticket working capital loans based on her demonstrated ability to repay. This is in sharp contrast to the status quo, where banks typically offer only larger loans backed by collateral. Using cash flows rather than collateral as the basis for credit is known as Flow-Based lending. Because producing collateral is a roadblock for the poorest Indians, Flow-Based lending may be their only opportunity to access the credit they sorely need for growth.
