3. Valuation of nature-based infrastructure
Financial assessment – why is it important?
• It demonstrates the financial viability of NBI. The modelling includes how cash-flows can
service the debt and generate return for shareholders.
• It demonstrates the financial impact of internalizing some of the environmental, social and
economic externalities identified.
• It demonstrates the financial impact of climate risk for project developers and investors. The
financial assessment enables to identify which investors are better suited to support NBI.
• It supports the creation of NBI as an asset class.
