Blogs can be used for teaching and learning in several ways. They allow for information sharing, reflection, discussion, collaboration and the promotion of connections. While technologies do not directly change teaching, blogs and new environments can help find new ways to achieve learning goals and design activities. This week's discussion will focus on building community through blogs, considering their advantages and disadvantages for learning activities as well as student customization options.

Teacher blogs have the potential to enhance student learning and connectedness. Blogs allow for idea generation and reflection among teachers and students. While blogs have existed for over 15 years, their use in education has been slow to diffuse but remains untapped. Blogs provide a place for collaboration and the development of a professional learning community among teachers. When used before and after class, blogs have been shown to improve student outcomes and engagement.
