Solid Waste Management Details
Puttur: Geographical coordinates are 12° 46' 0" North, 75° 13' 0" East
having total area of 36.11km2.
It is actually a developing town which
experienced ribbon development in which the development of town is
mainly concentrated on either side of state highway.
9. Solid waste statistics
1) Total amount of waste generated within TMC area = 16 Tons per day on an average.
2) About 95% of total generated is cleared frequently i.e approx. 15 Tons per day.
3) Amount of waste that is un lifted is about 0.8-1 Tons per day.
Disposal of collected garbage :
One sanitary land fill site is constructed under ADB project ( KUDCEMP) at Nekkila
Bannur 6 Km away from municipality office.
The land fill covers 7.15 acres of land. Right now unseggregated waste is dumped in
sanitary land fill.
Collection, treatment and disposal of hospital wastes :
Currently all the hospital wastes are collected by a private Ramaky Agency appointed by
Indian Medical Association Puttur branch, and 0.8 acres of land is provided for the
disposal of hospital wastes near Mottethadka Puttur.
Municipality is not at all handling the hospital wastes.
Toilet pit cleaning :
For the purpose of toilet pit cleaning a 4000 liter capacity desludging equipment (cess
tank) is provided to Puttur Municipality and at a reasonable rate as decided by the council
(as mentioned in the following table), the pit cleaning service is provided.
10. Collection, treatment and disposal of hospital wastes :

1. Total Qty of drinking water supplied per day: 5.59 MLD
2. Rate of Supply as per norms : 120 Liters per Capita
3. Per capita water Supply : 107.5 Liters per Capita
4. Water supply covering all the sources of water supply and their daily targeted yield : 6,24 MLD.

13. o For proper functioning of any city over a long period it is very essential to plan
suitably considering all aspects which may cause any problem in future.
It is a long term process.o Urban development is not an easy
oAlthough it is the duty of government municipalities or local authority to cause
for urban development it is everyone’s duty and responsibility to contribute for
sustained development.
