NFL Stadium Bargaining
A very recent example we can see of stadium bargaining is with the Los Angles Rams. It has been
a popular practice to threaten to move an NFL team to Los Angles ever since they lost their team
in 1994. Since 1994, there have been twenty proposals by NFL teams threatening to move in order
to get stadiums publically financed (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The St. Louis Ramswere no
different, they wanted to get as much money as possible from St. Louis even though the city had
been going through tough economical times (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). Rams owner Stan
Kroenke had a clause built into his contract with the city that said if the Rams stadium ever fell
below the top tier of stadiums in the NFL they would get the public support of building a new
stadium (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The problem was that Kroenke had his eyes on a stadium
much larger than a top tier NFL... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first way is to explain how many construction jobs will be created by the facility (Noll,
Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). The second way is to establish that the fans that attend the games, generate
a new outlet of spending in the community, which will then expand local employment (Noll,
Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). The team should then show that they bring in lots of tourism, which brings
in money from outside the city and can be spent on more local outlets like hotels, restaurants and
tourists locations (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). Lastly, this stadium will help bring a multiplier
effect to the city which essentially forms when you create jobs, which pay people, which puts
more money into their pockets, which then gets spent somewhere else (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p
36). A good example of a slogan that the San Francisco 49ers used to promote their stadium was

Nicholas II Bloody Sunday Massacre Analysis
This is a page from the diary of Nicholas II after he had been placed under house arrest by the
Bolsheviks in 1917. Nicholas II was not always hated by his people, and in fact, many Russian
citizens once saw him as a father figure in Russia. In truth, he never intended any malice toward
his people, and in his own journal he regards the Bloody Sunday massacre as a tragedy when he
writes, A painful day. There have been serious disorders in St. Petersburg because workmen
wanted to come up to the Winter Palace. Troops had to open fire in several places in the city;
there were many killed and wounded. God, how painful and sad. His indifference to politics,
however, is something that is almost worse, and ultimately proved to be fatal to the

Developing A Comprehensive And An Integrated Approach For...
Approaches Developing a comprehensive and an integrated approach to rural skills development
Education and skills development strategies need to be integrated with all rural development
policies and strategies, such as agricultural policies, and private sector development and
entrepreneurship policies. Coordination and collaboration with the private sector in skills
development should be calibrated and strengthened not only to increase the relevance of training
but also to improve and facilitate its delivery. While planning and implementing the programmes ,
all and sundry which includes employers organizations, workers organisations, NGOs and
community groups should be involved and synerzised. Labour market needs and economic
opportunities must be assessed, and the training must be tailored commensurately to the skills that
are required to the particular rural context. Collect and analyse data disaggregated by gender, age,
ethnicity, disability and other relevant dimensions to be able to design appropriate services and
programmes. Develop diversified skill development policies that take into cognizance formal, non
formal and informal training. While access to good quality formal training is important, including
innovative non formal and informal skills training into national training systems is also a veritable
key for improving skills provision in rural areas. Expanding access to quality education and
vocational training Expand the

Man And Leapor s Essay On Woman
Optimism vs. Pessimism in Pope s Essay on Man and Leapor s Essay on Woman
Both Alexander Pope s Essay on Man, Epistle 2 and Mary Leapor s Essay on Woman expound the
fatalist contention that neither man nor woman can win, as each individual exists in a world of
trade offs. Yet, by each author s singulartechnique of sculpting his ideas with the literary tools of
contrast, argument, and syntax, the cores of the two essays turn back to back, evolving into
distinct, but contrary perspectives of Man s (in respect to mankind) and Woman s existence. Pope
asserts that a profusion of trade offs establish a certain equilibrium point where Man hangs on this
isthmus of a middle state (Magill 2629). After defining the boundaries of Man s ... Show more

Pope chooses neither good nor bad connotations ( A being darkly wise, and rudely great ) to avoid
judging either of man s extremes. Instead he skillfully chooses each word to avoid judging either
extreme as good or bad, right or wrong. Darkly, on its own, connotes the unseen, the undefined
and is uniquely paired with wise, a word denoting a grasp on definition or reason. Rudely great
again combines two impartial words that seem to stand in a paradox as a unit rudely suggests low
class and lack of refinement (but lacks the moral judgment of crudely ) while great indicates
superiority, prominence and nobility (without implying self righteous conceit, as grand might have
done). Paired, however, each phrase ( Darkly wise and rudely great ) carries on its own distinctive
hybridized meaning. Darkly wise, comes to depict an indefinite sensibility and rudely great, denotes
an unrefined dignity. Much simpler contrasts between black and white, dark and light, strength and
weakness might have sufficed, but, efforting to capture the depth of Man s character, Pope creates
contrasts that escape the banality of common antonyms and espouse the sundry spectrums of
qualities that comprise Man s character. By these contrasts, Pope was able to construct his thesis,
case in point, by illustrating the creative conglomeration that propitiously sets Man apart from God
and beast.
Leapor contrasts images to illustrate the perfection of woman and the

Critique of Movie The Insider Essay
Critique of Movie The Insider
A dramatization of 1995 events in which the tobacco industry allegedly covered up proof that
nicotine is addictive and harmful. When Brown and Williamson executive Jeffrey Wigand (Crowe)
tries to expose the industry s cover up, he is threatened into silence. He eventually gets his story to
60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman (AL Pacino), but CBS decides against airing it due to
political and economic pressures, and the threat of lawsuit from Brown and Williamson.
Before we start, I think it s important that you know a little thing about me, and where I m coming

unfounded, desperate attempts for people to put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, the guy has a family to look out for. But then Wigand is tortured over his passiveness,
wondering if he should take a more aggressive stance with his potentially damaging knowledge.
60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman, sensing a big story in the works, tries to coax Wigand into
talking. An energetic Al Pacino, who fights to get the story on the air, only to have it snuffed by
CBS, plays Bergman here. Allegedly, the television network was possibly up for sale around the
time of this story, and airing it might have damaged their image with controversy, making it less
appealing to potential suitors. This, coupled with the threat of lawsuit from Brown and Williamson,
made CBS refuse to air the story.
The Insider portrays these events as a crusade on the part of Bergman and Wigand to get the truth
out there, against the will of Big Business and Bigger Tobacco. And while Bergman is never
portrayed as much more than a journalist with an uncharacteristic amount of integrity, Wigand is a
great character to follow as he tries to balance out everything around him. Tortured and sleepless,
his reactions are what you would expect from someone forced to choose between the safety of his
family with the gravity of what he knows.
Most of it makes for edge of your suit viewing. Suspense abounds, and AL Pacino s confrontations
with the evil corporate executives, censors, and whatnot are the centerpiece of the movie. He gets
to climb up on the soapbox and belt

Rites Of The Catholic Church
One of the most important sacraments of the Catholic Church is the Eucharist, also known as Holy
Communion. The Eucharist is not merely the consumption of bread and wine, but a sacrifice and
meal full of symbols, rituals, meaning and community involvement. To gain an understanding of the
Eucharist, it is important to first to look at the symbols, how they were started, then to see how the
Christian community enter into the mystery of the sacrament and what they believe.
Symbols
There are many symbols of the Eucharist, bread, wine, water, chalice
There is a real presence of Christ in the form of bread and wine. In the Eucharist, Christ is present
in the totality of His being. The Second Vatican Council proclaimed that the
Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life the source and summit of the Christian life
(Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, paragraph 11),The real
presence of Christ in the Eucharist comes about through transubstantiation meaning to change on
an in perceivable level, we believe that bread and wine changes at a fundamental level have
become the body and blood of Christ as a result of our prayers to God. St Augustine s sermon 272
stated that for what you see is simply bread and a cup this is the information your eyes report, but
your faith demands far subtler insight the bread if Christ s body and the cup is Christ s blood
We can argue that the Eucharist is a mystery. But what is the source of the Church s

What Intermolecular Forces Explain Why Propionic Acid Has...
Intermolecular forces explain why propionic acid has the highest boiling point because, the
relationship between boiling points and intermolecular forces is directly proportional. The stronger
the intermolecular forces, the higher the boiling point. The force of attraction between molecules is
based on the polarity of the molecule. Therefore, as bonds increase in polarity, intermolecular forces
become stronger.
There are four main types of intermolecular forces, the strongest force, first place, is ionic bonds,
second place hydrogen bond interactions, third place dipole interactions, last place London
dispersion/ Van der Waals interactions. Ionic forces occur when a complete transfer of electrons
takes place when one interacting atom is much more electronegative than the other, causing atoms
and molecules to take on charges. Hydrogen bonding occurs when a hydrogen atom is bonded to a
very electro negative atom, specifically a nitrogen, oxygen or, fluorine atom. The third strongest is
dipole interactions which is a sharing of electrons also known as covalent bonding. Finally, London
dispersion/ Van der... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because the molecule also has a hydrogen bond (O H) but, it differs because the second carbon
on 1 propanol contains a non polar covalent bond (Van der Waals forces) instead of dipole
interactions. 1 propanol also contains a strand of hydrocarbons which increases Van der Waals

not contain any hydrogen bonding. The only intermolecular interactions in propionaldehyde are

Odour Of Chrysanthemums And The Rocking-Horse Winner
Short stories have been around for many years. D.H. Lawrence has wrote many stories. Two of
his stories are Odour of Chrysanthemums and The rocking horse winner . There are several
differences and similarities between the two stories. The similarities and differences between the
two stories are with the characters, theme and imagery. Overall, the two stories were very similar
with differences in details. The primary theme of both stories is love. In both of his stories, there
is an issue with the mother s lack of love. In addition to love, D.H. Lawrence centered both stories
on family dynamics. The theme is on the interaction and relationship amongst family members. In
both stories, the mother struggled to with love. Though the mother in Odour of Chrysanthemums
appeared to have loved and cared for her children, she felt cold about her unborn child. The
mother in The rocking horse winner felt no love for all of her children. In the both stories, the
father did not play an active role, but he is discussed. The fathers appeared to be working a lot.
Even with the fathers being employed there were still concerns about money for both mothers.

Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero
Richard as an Anti hero:
To what extent does Richard embody this archetype?
In William Shakespeare s play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and
psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities.
Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A
protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and
is admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Richard however, contradicts the
character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti hero. The play
opens up with Richard s, (Duke of Gloucester) soliloquy: I am determined to ... Show more content

Richard says to Lady Anne: Your beauty was the cause of the effect:
Your beauty, that did haunt me in my sleep
To undertake the death of all the world,
So I might live one hour in your sweet bosom (1.2.126 129)
Richard takes a huge risk, handing Anne a knife and demanding she take away his life for he
had murdered both her father and husband. He insists to her it is only fair that she take his life in
response. Lady Anne rejects, falling for Richard s trap for she accepts his proposal of love.
Richard succeeds in manipulation. In the scene, Richard plays the role of a lover who will
provide Anne with the emotional support she would need; especially after suffering two loses. By
persuading and manipulating Lady Anne, Richard was able to get what he was really after; the
power and a truce with the house of Lancaster. This method of persuasion and manipulation are the
basic fundamentals that Richard uses on those he sees as useful in accomplishing his devilish deeds.
Family, loyalty, trust and marriage are some of the values and traditions that Richard ignores.
Richard acts like a caring brother (to Clarence), devoted lover, the innocent who is unjustly
accused, a pious man of God and the simple fellow who is too modest to become King (Cambridge
235). I will deliver for you or else lie for you (1, 1,115.) are the exact words that Richard expresses
to Clarence when Clarence was being sent to the tower. As soon as Clarence is out of sight,

Satire In Humorous Acting
Rebecca is having a long day at the office. All she wants to do is go home and watch the latest

and other forms of humorous acting give people something to look forward to. It has provided an
escape venue for millenniums. Humorous acting is a fun pastime for both the actors and the
audience, with a lot more to it than meets the eye. The definition of theatreis a form of art that is
supposed to be entertaining and appealing for the actors and audience. Comedyhas been practiced

They are all vague and can be mixed around or put into the same show or play. Most comedies
have more than one of these tenets. The first tenet is farce. Farce puts characters in an absurd
situation that then makes the play funny. Most farce stems from Shakespeare, and it is the best
documented comedy form. Irony is a verbal tenet. When a play is ironic, sarcastic comments and
retorts or common, and the opposite of what is true is believed to be true. Irony often gets bad
reviews and is considered satire. Satire is a cross between irony and parody. It is defined as
imitation with the intention of wounding or correcting someone. It s the harshest type. Parody is
similar to satire but the intentions are not as severe. Parody is the most famous tenet. Pastiche is
subtler but also similar to parody. The purpose of the imitation is often to flatter. Pastiche is
relatively benign, and lots of humorous musicals incorporate it. Surrealism is when the actor
presents a situation that isn t relevant to the perceived plot and is therefore entertaining. Slapstick
involves characters doing physically funny things like falling down or hurting themselves in
general. Slapstick is the most visual tenet of comedy. The lines of the seven basic tenets blur

The Island will operate under a home rule charter that will allow the island to exercise all powers
not prohibited by law or charter (Dye MacManus, 2012, P. 345).The Island will be divided into
four districts with county seat of government being located in the center of the island. Located at
the center of the island will be a hospital, courthouse, jail, office space and community meeting
hall. The jail will be located in the basement below the courthouse. Each of the four districts will

Mainstrea Mainstream Media Analysis
Both professional and citizen journalist are vitally important to keeping the public apprised as to
significant happening across the globe. The advantage the citizen journalist has to report
instantaneously is invaluable. However, there simply are not enough professional journalist
available to be everywhere, at all times. The ability to inform the public, anytime, anyplace, is
priceless. The blogger skips the arduous process of the editor, the producer and the scheduled time
slot on the local television channel. Professional journalist are limited by neutrality. They report on
the opinions of others or current events, whereas the citizen journalist may steer the events or
opinions. Both are motivated by the opportunity to expose the truth, however where the
professional often searches for the truth, the truth simply finds the citizen journalist. The
independent citizen journalist, like the professional, risk being incarcerated or worse, by exposing

October 29, 2014
Ordinary People written by Judith Guest is a story about a typical American family. The book
examines how a family reacts to the adversity of losing a member. The book begins just over a
year since the Jarrett family lost Buck, their teenage son.
After reading the DSM 5 is was clear to me that Conrad was suffering from persistent depressive
disorder. In order to be diagnosed with PDD you must have a depressed mood for most of the day,
which in children and adolescents lasts for a year. Conrad s problems have been going on for
just over a year, as his brother died in early summer and the book takes place the next fall. His
depressed mood is apparent from the very start of the book, as he mentions not having ... Show

First, is the Diathesis and Stress model, which proposes that depression, results from the interaction
of personal vulnerabilities and stressful events or circumstances. Therefore, if Conrad was
susceptible either due to genetics or temperament his brother s death could have been the stressor
that resulted in his depression. Although we are only given a little information on what Conrad was
like before the death of his brother, this is definitely plausible. Another factor is that research
indicates that families of depressed children are characterized by problems with attachment,
communication, conflict, cohesions, and support, as well as poor child rearing practices. It is clear
that the Jarrett family has its fair share of family problems. The first is a problem that due to his
mother s love for Buck, Conrad feels that their relationship does not measure up. Therefore, there is
most likely some attachment issues within the relationship. Lastly, there is certainly a lack of
communication within the house. Nothing is talked about because there is a belief that they don t
have any problems.
The article Child and Adolescent Depression in the Family examined the positive effects that family
therapy can have on a child suffering from depression. The research found that all the studies
involving a family focused treatment was effective at decreasing youth depression. I think that this

Western Honey Bee Disease
The Western Honey Bee (Apis Melliferis) is a species of honey bee. Its genus name Apis is Latin
for bee . The western honey bee shares a genus with the dwarf honey bee (Apis Florea), the giant
honey bee (Apis Dorsata) , and the oriental honey bee (Apis Cerana). According to

bumble bees, honeybees and stingless bees (Apidae). As long as they pollinate and produce honey,
then they fall under the Apidae family. Although the most visible members of Apidae are social,
the vast majority of apid bees are solitary, including a number of cleptoparasitic species (O Toole

The Western Honey Bee can be severly hurt by Sacbroad, a disease caused by a virus, and Varroa
mites (Moore, Wilson, et al). Western Honey Bees do tend to have medicinal purposes due to their
ability to make honey. According to medical dictionary.thefreedictionary.com, studies show that
since bees are as major cause of life threatening anaphylaxis in sensitised individuals, homeopathy, a
homeopathic remedy obtained from honey bees, can help treat bee stings and other insect bites,
oedema, and other causes of burning and swelling, including cystitis, allergies and sore throat.
For commercial purposes, only A. mellifera and A. cerana have been used to gather honey. But,
only A. mellifera has been used expansively for commercial pollination of plants and other crops.
This honey helps consumers alleviate pain, allergies and naturally sweetens drinks. Honeybees
have many adaptations for defense: Adults have orange and black striping that acts as warning
coloration. Predators can learn to associate that pattern with a painful sting, and avoid them.
Honeybees prefer to build their hives in protected cavities (small caves or tree hollows). They
seal small openings with a mix of wax and resins called propolis, leaving only one small opening.
Worker bees guard the entrance of the hive. They are able to recognize members of their colony by
scent, and will attack any non members that try to enter the

The Impact Of Unemployment On Aboriginal And Torres Strait...
One social determinant that impacts Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is unemployment.
According to the Australian Census in 2011, 56% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
population in Australia were participating in the labour force, however, 17.2% of this population
were unemployed but seeking employment (Australian Bureau of Statistics [ABS], 2013).
Comparing these numbers to the non indigenous population, the percentage of the indigenous
population in the labour force is significantly lower than non indigenous Australians, with a
difference of 20.5% (ABS, 2013).
Through my learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing, it was
mentioned that most indigenous people were unemployed or experienced poverty, the statistics
allowed me to put these statements into perspective. Upon learning this I felt quite shocked and
alarmed at the high rates of people that were not working or even trying to find work. It gave me a
better understanding of how seeking employment for indigenous people may be a stressful and
daunting process. But it also made me think on how unemployment can affect the health and

Pursuing An Education For Public Policy
During an economics lecture the professor said to my class I do not know whether the increasing
income inequality is an issue or not . I was perplexed. I thought the goal of Economics, as a social
science, was to achieve the maximum welfare of people while efficiently using resources. So how
is income inequality that renders many people worse off, not an issue? By not stating his opinion,
he wished to remain unbiased. However, if everyone were to keep their understanding of justice and
inequality to themselves without meaningful dialogues, no societal issue would gain attention or
action.
I felt my theoretical background required training in practical applications to conceive working
solutions to some of the most pressing problems of our time. Realizing I want to be equipped with
the tools necessary to take appropriate measures when the welfare of individuals is compromised, I
knew I should seek an education in Public Policy. With my interdisciplinary academic background,
I aspire to contribute to the field of Public Policy by bringing a transnational feminist perspective
to the socio economic policy discourse. Therefore, there is no better place for me to pursue my
doctoral degree in Public Policy than at Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.
My experiences in research and community service have molded my policy interests and prepared
me for my graduate education in policy formulation and analysis. My joint research paper on the

Notes Of A Native Son By James Baldwin
James Baldwin, Notes of a Native Son (originally appeared in Harper s, 1955)
I had never thought of myself as an essayist, wrote James Baldwin, who was finishing his novel
Giovanni s Room while he worked on what would become one of the great American essays.
Against a violent historical background, Baldwin recalls his deeply troubled relationship with his
father and explores his growing awareness of himself as a black American. Some today may
question the relevance of the essay in our brave new post racial world, though Baldwin considered
the essay still relevant in 1984 and, had he lived to see it, the election of Barak Obama may not
have changed his mind. However you view the racial politics, the prose is undeniably hypnotic, ...

Before I heard Sontag thirty one, glamorous, dressed entirely in black read the essay on
publication at a Partisan Review gathering, I had simply interpreted campy as an exaggerated
style or over the top behavior. But after Sontag unpacked the concept, with the help of Oscar
Wilde, I began to see the cultural world in a different light. The whole point of camp, she writes, is
to dethrone the serious. Her essay, collected in Against Interpretation (1966), is not in itself an
example of camp.

rapidly snapped up, McPhee juxtaposes the well known sites on the board Atlantic Avenue, Park

Educational Philosophy of John Dewey Essay
The Educational Philosophy of John Dewey John Dewey is known as leader of the progressive
movement in the history of the American education system and his book, Democracy and
Education: an introduction to the philosophy of education, could be used as a textbook to teach the
foundations of the movement. Discrediting all previous educational and philosophic approaches as
intellectually incomplete or inaccurate, Dewey first presents a new perspective on the nature of
knowledge, education, society and philosophy. One fundamental theme of Dewey s progressive
movement is that education is growth and that growth is, in and of itself, the objective. Rejecting
any notion of innate knowledge or of an ideal goal to strive for, the progressive... Show more

Societies can be, by definition, small associations of like minded individuals with narrow aims
or large nations with broad, diverse aims. Dewey offers two standards which can be applied to
assess the value of a society: How numerous and varied are the interests which are consciously
shared? How full and free is the interplay with other forms of association? By applying these two
questions, the natural conclusion of the ideal society is democratic, that is to say one that offers
its citizens the freedom of expression and communication. If a democracy represents an ideal
society that presents the maximum number of common interests and the maximum opportunities
for association with other societies, then it also represents the ideal society in its potential for
growth. Any society with a near limitless potential for growth must redefine the concept of
knowledge in order to gain efficiencies in its education system. Previous attempts at defining
knowledge were flawed, in the mind of the Progressivist, by directly stating or implying a
division or duality that presents a barrier to free intercourse of ideas. Examples of these dualities
are that of different classes within a society such as rich vs poor, noble vs lower class, ruler vs
ruled or that of the physical vs metaphysical worlds. Any duality serves to separate knowledge
from action, a continuity which is proclaimed as ideal. Any piece of

This article is a discussion about the competitive advantages Zappos has, using resource based
view and dynamic capabilities analysis. Although there are SWOT framework and Porter s five
forces model etc. to understand the firm s competitive advantage, those are environmental analysis,
which is only the half story as Barney,(1995) suggested. So, an analysis of a firm s internal strengths
and weaknesses is required. Barney (2001) states resource based logic can help managers more

since if a firm hands competitive advantage, others will always attempt to imitate it, although
Zappos is still running smoothly, the same capability, may not pass the VRIO test. On the other
hand, from he view of dynamic capability, zappos operation model was to provide exceptional
product selection by padre rim with shoe companies, then it changed, all shipments were from
its own inventory, (Z,10) because the old model lacks of accuracy and had unreliable
information updates. Undeniably, one of Zappos competence is their distribution system,
Zappos noticed that there should be some changes, not only the shipping model, also include the
allocation of ground delivery, ship delivery and air delivery, or the facilitating of automatic
machines, as time goes by, Zappos is always updating this competency. Dynamic capability can
be seen as a critique of RBV, There is also literature suggesting, that DC is outcome of RBV,
Dynamic capability is defined as capabilities that endow firms with competitive advantage in
changing environments. Both capabilities and DC are organization . A DC is the VRIO s O . To
be a source of competitive advantage it must be VRI. So dynamic capability can be seen as a firm
integrate its valuable, rare and costly imitated resources over times. From this perspective, when
we analyze Zappos distribution competency, we can also say that Zappos is organizing its
distributing resource and equipping it in order to be responsive to address the changes taking place
in the environment. (Zolo and Winter,

Ecotourism in South American Countries Essay
Ecotourism in South American Countries
Synopsis:
We are living in a world that tends to put developed nations against indigenous peoples. Foreign
developers seeking cheap labor and natural resources on untouched lands are exploiting cultures that
have survived for centuries on their own.
South America is a continent that possesses rich indigenous culture that is still relatively untouched
by outsiders. Americans have the ability to preserve that heritage through organized efforts to
encourage certain types of visitors to indigenous areas to create an economy that will take the place
of potential mining, logging, and ranching enterprises. That economy is ecotourism.

To act as a means of improving the status of these poor countries, the idea of Ecotourism was
developed. Though the idea of Ecotourism was one with good intentions, the local people in the
countries where Ecotourism has been in effect are not gaining much at all.
History of Ecotourism:
The idea that led to Ecotourism emerged in the late sixties when people like Oswaldo MuГ±oz,
now president of the Ecuadorian Ecotourism Association, started guiding tourists around their
countries to view natural wonders. Many companies began to set up lodging near parks and
reserves and even began to develop tours of those areas. The vision of showing off exotic plants,
animals and the overall natural beauty of countries like Ecuador also attracted them. Yet early on,
this did little to help the local economies. It actually contributed to other problems: In Ecuador, half
of the country s rain forest disappeared, and environmental groups and other organizations
promoting ecotourism flocked to places where endangered species, including many indigenous
populations, lived. But with the growing environmental awareness of

Kant s Powerful Reasoning For Moral Atrocities

Kant s powerful reasoning for moral atrocities.
Kant explains his moral theory, the categorical imperative, in Grounding for the metaphysics of
Morals . In this paper i will argue that Kantian reasoning provides the most powerful
understanding of how to assess and navigate moral dilemmas concerning atrocities when
compared to Utilitarianism. In order to effectively do so, i will be using a case by Bernard
Williams. The case by Williams in A critique of Utilitarianism, is as followed. Jim is in a small
South American town where he finds a band of armed men holding twenty indians hostaged. Pedro,
the man in charge, explains that because of recent protest the ... Show more content on

Furthermore, i will provide an examination of what both utilitarianism and the categorical
imperative would do in this situation; beginning with utilitarianism. In Principles of Morals and
Legislation Jeremy Bentham outlines utilitarianism. The most important feature being the principle
of utility, Bentham believes that pleasure and pain governs all aspect of life, and one must do all
they can to reduce their pain and maximize their pleasure ( Bentham, 7) Bentham Develops the
Felicific calculator in order to quantitatively measure pain and pleasure in any given circumstance.
To adhere to this calculus, one ought to consider if the value of a pleasure or pain will be greater or
less according to: Intensity, duration, certainty, nearness, fecundity, purity, and extent (Bentham,
22). For an example, in Williams case one must consider the pleasure and pain involved in their
ability to be certain of the outcomes of their actions. If one cannot be sure that they can trust Pedro s
promise to let the nineteen hostages go, then this should be considered in the calculations of the
pleasures and pain of the consequences of their actions. Consequentialism is another key aspect to
utilitarianism. An action s morality is dependent on outcomes only. One s intentions does not really
matter. It becomes evidently clear from running the felicific calculus, consulting the principles of
utility and

Eardrum Rupture Research Paper
Eardrum Rupture, Adult
An eardrum rupture is a hole (perforation) in the eardrum. The eardrum is a thin, round tissue
inside of the ear that separates the ear canal from the middle ear. The eardrum is also called the
tympanic membrane. It transfers sound vibrations through small bones in the middle ear to the
hearing nerve in the inner ear. It also protects the middle ear from germs. An eardrum rupture can
cause pain and hearing loss.
CAUSES
Eardrum rupture results from a sudden injury (trauma). This may be caused by:
Inserting a thin, sharp object into the ear canal.
Getting a blow to the side of the head, especially with an open hand.
Having a sudden increase in pressure against the eardrum, such as from an explosion or a ... Show

Essay about Egon Schiele s Self-Portrait
Egon Schiele s Self Portrait
When I look at this portrait, the first thing that hits me is the way the artist, Egon Schiele,
appears to have made himself look animated, like a cartoon. The way in which his right eye is
rounded like a cartoon character and his left eye is squinting and almost shut, adds to the idea of
a the portrait being a cartoon. The squinted left eye is as if he is sneaking around and evaluating
his surroundings. If you cover the right side of the face (with the widely opened eye), it makes
you realise that the left side with the squinted eye does not look very lifelike, but the two eyes
seem to cancel each other out.

I have found out that at the time of this painting, Egon Schiele like to give an expression of
extreme poverty. But his claims that at this time he was virtually in rags are at odds not only with
what his contemporaries have to say, but with the photographs taken of him. His letters make it plain
that he suffered from a degree of persecution mania (a feeling that others have evil designs against
one s well being) for example, he wrote in a letter of 1910: How hideous it is here! Everyone
envies me and conspires against me. Former colleagues regard me with malevolent eyes. This
information could back up the idea that Schiele was making himself look older in the paintings
and look animated because he actually felt old, and the fact that the left eye is squinting as if
looking around and being paranoid could also be due to his persecution mania at the time.
The portrait is basically just an artist s self portrait. Around this time, Egon Schiele became
fascinated by his own appearance, and made self portraits in large numbers. This is one of those
portraits. The title does not give away any clues to the meaning or symbolism of the piece, it is just
called Self Portrait Pulling Cheek .
One of Schiele s idols was Gustav Klimt, who had previously studied at the same school, the
School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna. We cannot really compare any similarities between the two
artists styles, but we can maybe say that Schiele was influenced by

Evidence In The Play Trifles
In the play trifles by Susan Glaspell Mrs.Wright is accused of killing her husband Mr.Wright, by
her peers who have to piece together what happened. As the scene opens everyone comes into
the house and they start to look over the crime scene. Nobody has an idea of who did it but the
main suspect is Mrs.Wright. In the beginning everyone is going through everything and looking
trying to find evidence. They are all in the kitchen and the men leave saying that is a woman s
place and that all in the room is Kitchen things . The men also poke fun at how bad of a
housekeeper Mrs.Wright is with dirty towels and her broken jars of fruit. When the men leave to go
upstairs Mrs. Hale and Mrs.Peters chat and notice things the men missed in the Kitchen.

Descriptive Essay About Museum Of Art
I recently took a trip to New York City and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While there,
I looked at many different types of art work from all different cultures, time periods, and places. I
was amazed at all the artwork there and how different it all was. I was amazed at the interior
designs of the museum and how it was made to look just like a room from the place in which the
showcased art originated from. There were many amazing art pieces that drew my attention, but
there was one art piece that caught my eye and that I was in awe of. This is the Crown of the
Virgin of the Immaculate ConceptionKnown as the Crown of the Andes
I selected this work of art for many reasons. The first reason is that as I walked passed this work
of art it caught my eyes right away. I was amazed at the precision used to create every single
element on this amazing piece of art. Every detail, from the placement of the gems, the stunning
designs created in the gold of the crown, and even the beauty of the cross laying atop of the
crown, caught my eye. The second reason is that I enjoy learning about royalty and how adored
rulers are to their people. When I saw this masterpiece, I was in nothing but awe. I also felt a
sense of surprise because the piece of art was sitting in the back of the room, and looked as though
it was hiding.
This image is of a crown made to adorn the Virgin Mary and her queen ship. The crown was
created because in Colombia, the country where it was created, people

Pediatric Neurology Personal Statement
There is no question I want to train in pediatric neurology, a complex arena with multiple
intersecting facets that has been a long standing interest.
A 5 year old female who was initially admitted due to severe status asthmaticus, developed over
four days an acute flaccid paralysis involving both upper extremities with associated areflexia and
lower extremity sparing; where is the lesion?
This very question encapsulates every aspect of neurology with which I have become fascinated.
This was my very first complicated case during my third year clinical rotations in pediatrics that
captivated every one of my senses. I was inspired by the discussions between pediatric neurology,
the pediatric critical care intensivists, neuroradiology, infectious ... Show more content on

I was quick to understand that pediatric neurology is not one where there is a fast cure, no
single antibiotic to resolve a bacterial sinus infection. Most patients who come seeking care will
have chronic, disabling disorders, even something as simple as a headache, and if it s not
chronic, it will have been for an acute etiology that leaves devastating effects. Most importantly,
I understand that as a pediatric neurologist, I would be helping people even when there is no
cure, a burden to some, but a task I wholeheartedly embrace. My experiences as a teacher already
taught me how to persevere approaching complex students coming from different backgrounds
whose academic struggles were rooted in family issues; they needed holistic approaches with an
array of resources for support. I continue to develop these schools, but I believe my compassion
is what sets me apart from other applicants. I not only want to provide the best quality care and
treatment options available for these patients, but I also want to be there to communicate with
families and bolster their support for my patient. I know this to be crucial in the pursuit of
improving recovery and better well being for patients. I possess the skills necessary to enter this
incredible field, and I am the person you want to care for your patients and speak to families and

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Observation
On April 28, 2017, I attended the School of Music s Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The program last
about two hours and had a ten minute intermission. This non ticketed event was held at Morgan
Hall in the Bailey Performing Arts Center on Kennesaw State University s Kennesaw campus. The
program consisted of three unique musical pieces performed by the renowned Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra.
Before the concert began, I was able to observe the audience members outside of the entrance
doors. Unlike the other Kennesaw State concerts that I attended, there was an extremely large and
diverse crowd dressed formally. The doors opened fifteen minutes before the concert began and an
usher escorted me to the second row in front of the stage. As the performance began, felt a formal
and prestigious atmosphere within the crowd. I began to copy my neighbor s etiquette in order to
fit in with the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The orchestra performed passionately and precisely with perfect synchronization. The dramatic
crescendos and decrescendos really brought out the emotions of each piece. The first piece
performed was called Don Juan (1888 1889) and started off fast paced and suspenseful.
Composed by Richard Strauss (1864 1949), the piece had a lot of dissonance within it. There were
times when the piece would slow down gradually then suddenly speed up, returning back to its
original pacing. Each instrumental section could be heard precisely and no one section
overwhelmed another. The conductor stood out the most during the performance and excellently
controlled the pacing and tone of the piece. His exotic movements seemed excessive at first, but I
began to realize that he was simply passionate about the

Analysis Of Shawshank Redemption
The good thing won t last long and can t get enough view of the satisfaction. But one mistake can
flip the life upside down in a matter of second. The movie Shawshank Redemption , is written and
directed by Frank Darabont is about Andy Dufresne. Andy Dufresne is the main character in the
movie who was found guilty and sentenced to two consecutive life terms behind bars at Shawshank
Prison for the conviction of his wife and lover murders. No other characters know that the Andy is
innocent and falsely sentenced besides him. Andy had a tough time in Shawshank Prison and had to
deal with certainty.
The very first night in the jail, Andy realizes what the prison guard think about me? beats a new
inmate to death for crying his innocence in the middle of the night. In the very next day, Andy
meets the guy named called Red, which is well known as Advisor at Shawshank Prison. He used to
assist new inmates to show the way to get familiar with the old inmates. His quiet strength slowly
earns the respect of his fellow inmates, most notably, Red (Morgan Freeman) and even much of the
prison staff. His previous experience as a banker sale earns him favor with the guards and the
warden as he begins to launder money for them all. Consequently, Andy is allowed uncommon
benefits which incorporate working in the superintendent s office and building a library for
whatever remains of the jail. In any case, Andy s apparently stoic acknowledgment of his
treacherous detainment stows away savage

Alexis De Tocqueville Social Equality
Certainly Alexis experience with the Social equality those minorities faced, during his visit, was
viewed as incompatible with democracy. Neither of the French visitors agreed with the treatment
of slaves or the Native Americans, and Alexis was able to document this in his books. The view
Tocqueville had of the Anglo European view towards Natives and Blacks was as human beings are
to animals (Alexis de Tocqueville92). In a way Tocqueville predicted what ended up happening, and
that Anglo Europeans would control from the Atlantic to the Pacific and from the North to the
South poles. If you look at the Euro American imperialistic movement west with Spain, French,
British, as well as Anglo Americans, surely Alexis vision became a reality.

Romanticism Was The Period Of The Literary Movement Of...
1783 1830 was the period of the literary movement of Romanticism which was originated in Europe
(wiki). The Romantic Movement was partly aroused as a reaction from the Industrial Revolution.
Romanticism appeared as a movement which aimed to reject many subjects such as spirits, souls,
and instincts from the previous Enlightenment movement and discuss subjects associated with
liberalism, radicalism, and nationalism (Nichols, A., 2005). This movement emphasizes on the
sources of aesthetic experience, emotions, beauty and sublimity of nature. One of the most obvious
principles in this literary movement is the freedom of the poets to express themselves and their
feelings. It was considered that in order for poets to express their true feelings, they have to be
creative, imaginative and isolated. And the second obvious principle in this literary movement was
the principle of genius, which means creation from nothingness, and that was the key of this
movement (Waterhouse, 1926; Smith, 1924).
In that period, poets seemed to be using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stanza gives the reader a vibe of seriousness and sorrow because it asks questions about the
significance of the interchange between nature and human mind ( Romanticism , 2010). Shelley
brings forth the central problem in this stanza about the equality of the creation with the mind of
human being. In these lines, Shelley believes that he was caught in nature with its terrifying giant
wonders; then he personifies the big mountain and he also indicates that the mountain is too big to
understand. Moreover, Shelley used more than forth of the poem to view the main problems about
understanding nature of the power of the everlasting universe of things by using metaphor as in the
case of the word River . And what meant by it that by the time passing by the river can t cut

Unique Relationships In The Last Of The Mohicans
Chingachgook and Uncas have a unique relationship in The Last of the Mohicans, as does Munro
and his daughters. The relationships have their own dynamics. They share some aspects in
common, but also differ in ways. Both families are affected by war and both Chingachgook and
Monro care deeply for their children, but there is a difference in the closeness of their relationships
to their children.
The setting of The Last of the Mohicans is during a clash between the English and French in
America called the French and Indian War, named because of the involvement of Native Americans
in fighting the English with France. Chingachgook and Uncas are involved in the war just as
Munro and his daughters are, though Alice and Cora are not

The Importance Of Student Aid In Education
debate on who should pay our way through college and what student aid is best, but there are a
lot of options. Such as: grants, loans, financial aid, or even parents might decide to pay for their
child s way through college themselves if they are financially able. You might be wondering
what is the best option for you or your child though, and who should pay? Elliot, Gallo, Tilghman
and Shirley offer ideas on what is the best student aid for you or your college bound child. In
William Elliot s article, Are We Getting Our Money s Worth? , he talks more about the lower
income students struggling to get into college because of the fear of debt. Those who use loans to
pay their way into college usually end up in debt because of the interest on the loans and the
high college costs, which then causes them to wanna drop out. As the debt load of matriculated
poor and minority students rises, so do their dropout rates (Elliot p26). The fact is middle and
upper income student are able to use student aid to join more expensive colleges, while low
income students are only able to be accepted in less expensive home state colleges. The
American promise is that those who work equally hard will recieve equal rewards. But the
student loan programs may compromise the ability to graduate because of high loans (Elliot p28).
The people of low and high income are not treated equally even if they both work equally hard in
life to succeed and have an education.
Elliot believes, a college

  • 2. NFL Stadium Bargaining A very recent example we can see of stadium bargaining is with the Los Angles Rams. It has been a popular practice to threaten to move an NFL team to Los Angles ever since they lost their team in 1994. Since 1994, there have been twenty proposals by NFL teams threatening to move in order to get stadiums publically financed (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The St. Louis Ramswere no different, they wanted to get as much money as possible from St. Louis even though the city had been going through tough economical times (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). Rams owner Stan Kroenke had a clause built into his contract with the city that said if the Rams stadium ever fell below the top tier of stadiums in the NFL they would get the public support of building a new stadium (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The problem was that Kroenke had his eyes on a stadium much larger than a top tier NFL... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first way is to explain how many construction jobs will be created by the facility (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). The second way is to establish that the fans that attend the games, generate a new outlet of spending in the community, which will then expand local employment (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). The team should then show that they bring in lots of tourism, which brings in money from outside the city and can be spent on more local outlets like hotels, restaurants and tourists locations (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). Lastly, this stadium will help bring a multiplier effect to the city which essentially forms when you create jobs, which pay people, which puts more money into their pockets, which then gets spent somewhere else (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). A good example of a slogan that the San Francisco 49ers used to promote their stadium was Build the Stadium Create the Jobs! (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nicholas II was not always hated by his people, and in fact, many Russian citizens once saw him as a father figure in Russia. In truth, he never intended any malice toward his people, and in his own journal he regards the Bloody Sunday massacre as a tragedy when he writes, A painful day. There have been serious disorders in St. Petersburg because workmen wanted to come up to the Winter Palace. Troops had to open fire in several places in the city; there were many killed and wounded. God, how painful and sad. His indifference to politics, however, is something that is almost worse, and ultimately proved to be fatal to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Approaches Developing a comprehensive and an integrated approach to rural skills development Education and skills development strategies need to be integrated with all rural development policies and strategies, such as agricultural policies, and private sector development and entrepreneurship policies. Coordination and collaboration with the private sector in skills development should be calibrated and strengthened not only to increase the relevance of training but also to improve and facilitate its delivery. While planning and implementing the programmes , all and sundry which includes employers organizations, workers organisations, NGOs and community groups should be involved and synerzised. Labour market needs and economic opportunities must be assessed, and the training must be tailored commensurately to the skills that are required to the particular rural context. Collect and analyse data disaggregated by gender, age, ethnicity, disability and other relevant dimensions to be able to design appropriate services and programmes. Develop diversified skill development policies that take into cognizance formal, non formal and informal training. While access to good quality formal training is important, including innovative non formal and informal skills training into national training systems is also a veritable key for improving skills provision in rural areas. • 5. Man And Leapor s Essay On Woman Optimism vs. Pessimism in Pope s Essay on Man and Leapor s Essay on Woman Both Alexander Pope s Essay on Man, Epistle 2 and Mary Leapor s Essay on Woman expound the fatalist contention that neither man nor woman can win, as each individual exists in a world of trade offs. Yet, by each author s singulartechnique of sculpting his ideas with the literary tools of contrast, argument, and syntax, the cores of the two essays turn back to back, evolving into distinct, but contrary perspectives of Man s (in respect to mankind) and Woman s existence. Pope asserts that a profusion of trade offs establish a certain equilibrium point where Man hangs on this isthmus of a middle state (Magill 2629). After defining the boundaries of Man s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pope chooses neither good nor bad connotations ( A being darkly wise, and rudely great ) to avoid judging either of man s extremes. Instead he skillfully chooses each word to avoid judging either extreme as good or bad, right or wrong. Darkly, on its own, connotes the unseen, the undefined and is uniquely paired with wise, a word denoting a grasp on definition or reason. Rudely great again combines two impartial words that seem to stand in a paradox as a unit rudely suggests low class and lack of refinement (but lacks the moral judgment of crudely ) while great indicates superiority, prominence and nobility (without implying self righteous conceit, as grand might have done). Paired, however, each phrase ( Darkly wise and rudely great ) carries on its own distinctive hybridized meaning. Darkly wise, comes to depict an indefinite sensibility and rudely great, denotes an unrefined dignity. Much simpler contrasts between black and white, dark and light, strength and weakness might have sufficed, but, efforting to capture the depth of Man s character, Pope creates contrasts that escape the banality of common antonyms and espouse the sundry spectrums of qualities that comprise Man s character. By these contrasts, Pope was able to construct his thesis, case in point, by illustrating the creative conglomeration that propitiously sets Man apart from God and beast. Leapor contrasts images to illustrate the perfection of woman and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critique of Movie The Insider Essay Critique of Movie The Insider A dramatization of 1995 events in which the tobacco industry allegedly covered up proof that nicotine is addictive and harmful. When Brown and Williamson executive Jeffrey Wigand (Crowe) tries to expose the industry s cover up, he is threatened into silence. He eventually gets his story to 60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman (AL Pacino), but CBS decides against airing it due to political and economic pressures, and the threat of lawsuit from Brown and Williamson. After all, the guy has a family to look out for. But then Wigand is tortured over his passiveness, wondering if he should take a more aggressive stance with his potentially damaging knowledge. 60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman, sensing a big story in the works, tries to coax Wigand into talking. An energetic Al Pacino, who fights to get the story on the air, only to have it snuffed by CBS, plays Bergman here. Allegedly, the television network was possibly up for sale around the time of this story, and airing it might have damaged their image with controversy, making it less appealing to potential suitors. This, coupled with the threat of lawsuit from Brown and Williamson, made CBS refuse to air the story. The Insider portrays these events as a crusade on the part of Bergman and Wigand to get the truth out there, against the will of Big Business and Bigger Tobacco. And while Bergman is never portrayed as much more than a journalist with an uncharacteristic amount of integrity, Wigand is a great character to follow as he tries to balance out everything around him. Tortured and sleepless, his reactions are what you would expect from someone forced to choose between the safety of his family with the gravity of what he knows. Most of it makes for edge of your suit viewing. Suspense abounds, and AL Pacino s confrontations with the evil corporate executives, censors, and whatnot are the centerpiece of the movie. • 7. Rites Of The Catholic Church One of the most important sacraments of the Catholic Church is the Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion. The Eucharist is not merely the consumption of bread and wine, but a sacrifice and meal full of symbols, rituals, meaning and community involvement. To gain an understanding of the Eucharist, it is important to first to look at the symbols, how they were started, then to see how the Christian community enter into the mystery of the sacrament and what they believe. Symbols There are many symbols of the Eucharist, bread, wine, water, chalice There is a real presence of Christ in the form of bread and wine. In the Eucharist, Christ is present in the totality of His being. The Second Vatican Council proclaimed that the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life the source and summit of the Christian life (Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, paragraph 11),The real presence of Christ in the Eucharist comes about through transubstantiation meaning to change on an in perceivable level, we believe that bread and wine changes at a fundamental level have become the body and blood of Christ as a result of our prayers to God. St Augustine s sermon 272 stated that for what you see is simply bread and a cup this is the information your eyes report, but your faith demands far subtler insight the bread if Christ s body and the cup is Christ s blood We can argue that the Eucharist is a mystery. • 8. What Intermolecular Forces Explain Why Propionic Acid Has... Intermolecular forces explain why propionic acid has the highest boiling point because, the relationship between boiling points and intermolecular forces is directly proportional. The stronger the intermolecular forces, the higher the boiling point. The force of attraction between molecules is based on the polarity of the molecule. Therefore, as bonds increase in polarity, intermolecular forces become stronger. There are four main types of intermolecular forces, the strongest force, first place, is ionic bonds, second place hydrogen bond interactions, third place dipole interactions, last place London dispersion/ Van der Waals interactions. Ionic forces occur when a complete transfer of electrons takes place when one interacting atom is much more electronegative than the other, causing atoms and molecules to take on charges. Hydrogen bonding occurs when a hydrogen atom is bonded to a very electro negative atom, specifically a nitrogen, oxygen or, fluorine atom. The third strongest is dipole interactions which is a sharing of electrons also known as covalent bonding. Finally, London dispersion/ Van der... • 10. Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero Richard as an Anti hero: To what extent does Richard embody this archetype? In William Shakespeare s play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities. Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Richard however, contradicts the character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti hero. Farce puts characters in an absurd situation that then makes the play funny. Most farce stems from Shakespeare, and it is the best documented comedy form. Irony is a verbal tenet. When a play is ironic, sarcastic comments and retorts or common, and the opposite of what is true is believed to be true. Irony often gets bad reviews and is considered satire. Satire is a cross between irony and parody. It is defined as imitation with the intention of wounding or correcting someone. It s the harshest type. Parody is similar to satire but the intentions are not as severe. Parody is the most famous tenet. Pastiche is subtler but also similar to parody. The purpose of the imitation is often to flatter. Pastiche is relatively benign, and lots of humorous musicals incorporate it. Surrealism is when the actor presents a situation that isn t relevant to the perceived plot and is therefore entertaining. The book examines how a family reacts to the adversity of losing a member. The book begins just over a year since the Jarrett family lost Buck, their teenage son. After reading the DSM 5 is was clear to me that Conrad was suffering from persistent depressive disorder. In order to be diagnosed with PDD you must have a depressed mood for most of the day, which in children and adolescents lasts for a year. First, is the Diathesis and Stress model, which proposes that depression, results from the interaction of personal vulnerabilities and stressful events or circumstances. Therefore, if Conrad was susceptible either due to genetics or temperament his brother s death could have been the stressor that resulted in his depression. Although we are only given a little information on what Conrad was like before the death of his brother, this is definitely plausible. Another factor is that research indicates that families of depressed children are characterized by problems with attachment, communication, conflict, cohesions, and support, as well as poor child rearing practices. It is clear that the Jarrett family has its fair share of family problems. The first is a problem that due to his mother s love for Buck, Conrad feels that their relationship does not measure up. Therefore, there is most likely some attachment issues within the relationship. Lastly, there is certainly a lack of communication within the house. Nothing is talked about because there is a belief that they don t have any problems. According to the Australian Census in 2011, 56% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in Australia were participating in the labour force, however, 17.2% of this population were unemployed but seeking employment (Australian Bureau of Statistics [ABS], 2013). Comparing these numbers to the non indigenous population, the percentage of the indigenous population in the labour force is significantly lower than non indigenous Australians, with a difference of 20.5% (ABS, 2013). Through my learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing, it was mentioned that most indigenous people were unemployed or experienced poverty, the statistics allowed me to put these statements into perspective. Upon learning this I felt quite shocked and alarmed at the high rates of people that were not working or even trying to find work. Discrediting all previous educational and philosophic approaches as intellectually incomplete or inaccurate, Dewey first presents a new perspective on the nature of knowledge, education, society and philosophy. Societies can be, by definition, small associations of like minded individuals with narrow aims or large nations with broad, diverse aims. Dewey offers two standards which can be applied to assess the value of a society: How numerous and varied are the interests which are consciously shared? How full and free is the interplay with other forms of association? By applying these two questions, the natural conclusion of the ideal society is democratic, that is to say one that offers its citizens the freedom of expression and communication. If a democracy represents an ideal society that presents the maximum number of common interests and the maximum opportunities for association with other societies, then it also represents the ideal society in its potential for growth. Any society with a near limitless potential for growth must redefine the concept of knowledge in order to gain efficiencies in its education system. Previous attempts at defining knowledge were flawed, in the mind of the Progressivist, by directly stating or implying a division or duality that presents a barrier to free intercourse of ideas. Examples of these dualities are that of different classes within a society such as rich vs poor, noble vs lower class, ruler vs ruled or that of the physical vs metaphysical worlds. Furthermore, i will provide an examination of what both utilitarianism and the categorical imperative would do in this situation; beginning with utilitarianism. In Principles of Morals and Legislation Jeremy Bentham outlines utilitarianism. The most important feature being the principle of utility, Bentham believes that pleasure and pain governs all aspect of life, and one must do all they can to reduce their pain and maximize their pleasure ( Bentham, 7) Bentham Develops the Felicific calculator in order to quantitatively measure pain and pleasure in any given circumstance. To adhere to this calculus, one ought to consider if the value of a pleasure or pain will be greater or less according to: Intensity, duration, certainty, nearness, fecundity, purity, and extent (Bentham, 22). For an example, in Williams case one must consider the pleasure and pain involved in their ability to be certain of the outcomes of their actions. If one cannot be sure that they can trust Pedro s promise to let the nineteen hostages go, then this should be considered in the calculations of the pleasures and pain of the consequences of their actions. • 39. Essay about Egon Schiele s Self-Portrait Egon Schiele s Self Portrait When I look at this portrait, the first thing that hits me is the way the artist, Egon Schiele, appears to have made himself look animated, like a cartoon. The way in which his right eye is rounded like a cartoon character and his left eye is squinting and almost shut, adds to the idea of a the portrait being a cartoon. The squinted left eye is as if he is sneaking around and evaluating his surroundings. If you cover the right side of the face (with the widely opened eye), it makes you realise that the left side with the squinted eye does not look very lifelike, but the two eyes seem to cancel each other out. The over exaggerated wrinkles on Schiele s face and neck make him look a lot older than he actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have found out that at the time of this painting, Egon Schiele like to give an expression of extreme poverty. But his claims that at this time he was virtually in rags are at odds not only with what his contemporaries have to say, but with the photographs taken of him. His letters make it plain that he suffered from a degree of persecution mania (a feeling that others have evil designs against one s well being) for example, he wrote in a letter of 1910: How hideous it is here! Everyone envies me and conspires against me. Former colleagues regard me with malevolent eyes. This information could back up the idea that Schiele was making himself look older in the paintings and look animated because he actually felt old, and the fact that the left eye is squinting as if looking around and being paranoid could also be due to his persecution mania at the time. The portrait is basically just an artist s self portrait. Around this time, Egon Schiele became fascinated by his own appearance, and made self portraits in large numbers. This is one of those portraits. The title does not give away any clues to the meaning or symbolism of the piece, it is just called Self Portrait Pulling Cheek . One of Schiele s idols was Gustav Klimt, who had previously studied at the same school, the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna. We cannot really compare any similarities between the two artists styles, but we can maybe say that Schiele was influenced by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Descriptive Essay About Museum Of Art I recently took a trip to New York City and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While there, I looked at many different types of art work from all different cultures, time periods, and places. I was amazed at all the artwork there and how different it all was. I was amazed at the interior designs of the museum and how it was made to look just like a room from the place in which the showcased art originated from. There were many amazing art pieces that drew my attention, but there was one art piece that caught my eye and that I was in awe of. This is the Crown of the Virgin of the Immaculate ConceptionKnown as the Crown of the Andes I selected this work of art for many reasons. The first reason is that as I walked passed this work of art it caught my eyes right away. I was amazed at the precision used to create every single element on this amazing piece of art. Every detail, from the placement of the gems, the stunning designs created in the gold of the crown, and even the beauty of the cross laying atop of the crown, caught my eye. The second reason is that I enjoy learning about royalty and how adored rulers are to their people. When I saw this masterpiece, I was in nothing but awe. I also felt a sense of surprise because the piece of art was sitting in the back of the room, and looked as though it was hiding. This image is of a crown made to adorn the Virgin Mary and her queen ship. The crown was created because in Colombia, the country where it was created, people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A 5 year old female who was initially admitted due to severe status asthmaticus, developed over four days an acute flaccid paralysis involving both upper extremities with associated areflexia and lower extremity sparing; where is the lesion? This very question encapsulates every aspect of neurology with which I have become fascinated. I was quick to understand that pediatric neurology is not one where there is a fast cure, no single antibiotic to resolve a bacterial sinus infection. Most patients who come seeking care will have chronic, disabling disorders, even something as simple as a headache, and if it s not chronic, it will have been for an acute etiology that leaves devastating effects. Most importantly, I understand that as a pediatric neurologist, I would be helping people even when there is no cure, a burden to some, but a task I wholeheartedly embrace. My experiences as a teacher already taught me how to persevere approaching complex students coming from different backgrounds whose academic struggles were rooted in family issues; they needed holistic approaches with an array of resources for support. I continue to develop these schools, but I believe my compassion is what sets me apart from other applicants. I not only want to provide the best quality care and treatment options available for these patients, but I also want to be there to communicate with families and bolster their support for my patient. I know this to be crucial in the pursuit of improving recovery and better well being for patients. This non ticketed event was held at Morgan Hall in the Bailey Performing Arts Center on Kennesaw State University s Kennesaw campus. The program consisted of three unique musical pieces performed by the renowned Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Before the concert began, I was able to observe the audience members outside of the entrance doors. Unlike the other Kennesaw State concerts that I attended, there was an extremely large and diverse crowd dressed formally. The doors opened fifteen minutes before the concert began and an usher escorted me to the second row in front of the stage. As the performance began, felt a formal and prestigious atmosphere within the crowd. I began to copy my neighbor s etiquette in order to fit in with the audience. ... The dramatic crescendos and decrescendos really brought out the emotions of each piece. The first piece performed was called Don Juan (1888 1889) and started off fast paced and suspenseful. Composed by Richard Strauss (1864 1949), the piece had a lot of dissonance within it. There were times when the piece would slow down gradually then suddenly speed up, returning back to its original pacing. Each instrumental section could be heard precisely and no one section overwhelmed another. • 47. Romanticism Was The Period Of The Literary Movement Of... 1783 1830 was the period of the literary movement of Romanticism which was originated in Europe (wiki). The Romantic Movement was partly aroused as a reaction from the Industrial Revolution. Romanticism appeared as a movement which aimed to reject many subjects such as spirits, souls, and instincts from the previous Enlightenment movement and discuss subjects associated with liberalism, radicalism, and nationalism (Nichols, A., 2005). This movement emphasizes on the sources of aesthetic experience, emotions, beauty and sublimity of nature. One of the most obvious principles in this literary movement is the freedom of the poets to express themselves and their feelings. It was considered that in order for poets to express their true feelings, they have to be creative, imaginative and isolated. And the second obvious principle in this literary movement was the principle of genius, which means creation from nothingness, and that was the key of this movement (Waterhouse, 1926; Smith, 1924). In these lines, Shelley believes that he was caught in nature with its terrifying giant wonders; then he personifies the big mountain and he also indicates that the mountain is too big to understand. • 49. The Importance Of Student Aid In Education debate on who should pay our way through college and what student aid is best, but there are a lot of options. Such as: grants, loans, financial aid, or even parents might decide to pay for their child s way through college themselves if they are financially able. You might be wondering what is the best option for you or your child though, and who should pay? Elliot, Gallo, Tilghman and Shirley offer ideas on what is the best student aid for you or your college bound child. In William Elliot s article, Are We Getting Our Money s Worth? , he talks more about the lower income students struggling to get into college because of the fear of debt. Those who use loans to pay their way into college usually end up in debt because of the interest on the loans and the high college costs, which then causes them to wanna drop out. As the debt load of matriculated poor and minority students rises, so do their dropout rates (Elliot p26). The fact is middle and upper income student are able to use student aid to join more expensive colleges, while low income students are only able to be accepted in less expensive home state colleges. The American promise is that those who work equally hard will recieve equal rewards. But the student loan programs may compromise the ability to graduate because of high loans (Elliot p28). The people of low and high income are not treated equally even if they both work equally hard in life to succeed and have an education. Elliot believes, a college ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
