This document defines MOOCs as massive, open, online courses that are available for free or low cost and lack credit. MOOCs consist of large classes and aim to provide quality education worldwide as well as help with career advancement and networking. A MOOC structure includes lectures, discussion boards, quizzes, and final exams. Examples provided are MIT OpenCourseWare, which publishes all course materials online, and Coursera, which offers over 400 courses on various topics. MOOCs are an important trend as they can help students with limited resources access education.
