Format:
I am going to create a magazine In the genre of hip-hop; this will be in the form of a front cover
and a double page spread.
Working Title:
My working title is ROLL UP. The title is meant to symbolise how ‘hip-hop genre’ which the
magazine will be using and how it will not be a standard and low key magazine, but a ‘new’
magazine which includes all the top news for the time. Also lots of hip-hop artists are based
around money, which is why my title fits in with the genre very well.
Genre:
The subgenre of my magazine is hip-hop, my magazine will be in completion with VIBE which also
featured hip hop and rap music in their magazine.
My magazine will be aiming at audiences of 16-25 as these are the most likely to be wanting top
find out new information about this genre off music and will therefore sell better if I am aiming it
at this age group.
Content:
My magazine will be full of pictures; it will include more pictures then text, although there will
be lots of interview with artist in the magazine, this is so that the audience are able to gain
more information on the artist as through this interviews they can see what the artists have to
say. My magazine will featured big time artist such as Eminem and Meek Mill, as well as that it
will also feature some of the young and new artist within the hip hop industry.
Furthermore I will include star appeal (Richard Dyer) as this will draw in more people to the
magazine.
Style or Approach:
My ROLL UP magazine will be presented with the colours black, white and red this is due to the
fat that my magazine of inspiration, which is “Vibe”, is in black, white and yellow.
The font that I have chosen was found on “dafont.com” and this font is called “price down” by
“type dermic fonts”.
I chose this, as it is slightly different to “Vibes” font but not extremely different, as I am not
reinventing the wheel.
My front cover will have a big main image in the Centre and the image will cover a little bit of
my masthead in order to connote the artist has a big part in the magazine.
The denotation of the use of Photoshop is that it’s desktop publishing software and this enables
us to make the highest quality magazine, also big publishers in the industry use this software.
Audience:
The age of my audience will be around the age of 16-25 as mine is going to be a hip-hop genre
and I know from analysing other music magazines that the age group for these magazines is
highly around this area.
The gender that my magazine will be aimed at is both woman and men but a slight push
towards male, as most of the rap artists in the hip-hop scene are male so the majority of my
issues will appeal to them.
According the chart of socio-Economic needs mine will be aimed to people who are lower down
on the chart for example D or E as they will be students who are not employed and would most
appeal to.
Length:
My magazine will be consisted of 40 pages and will be printed on A4 paper because most other
magazines are this size and it make sit easier to hold.
Frequency:
My magazine will be produced monthly because if I’m appealing to a younger audience so it
