Environment of both presentations
Before I started my presentation I wanted to take a few pictures of the environment and the place that I’m
going to present my pitch. The clicker in the first picture on the left is important as I’d use it in switching the
slides on the screen. It’s easy to use and it looks professional. It also makes the process quicker as I don’t
have to do it from the computer therefore it saves time. The screen which is the middle picture is essential
in the pitch as it’s a big screen and therefore it’s a good way of presenting my work as it makes it easy for
everyone to see my presentation clearly. The computer which is the last picture on the right is also useful in
terms of having my presentation on it so it can go on the big screen as the screen and the computer are
linked with each other. The computer is where all my work is so therefore it’s essential to have it in the
environment of presentation as I’m going to open the presentation from it. The clicker and the screen are
also linked with each other as when I press the forward button on the clicker the slide on the screen moves
to the next one and so on.
1st magazine: Choral
Introduction
• Hello, very nice to meet you Mr Crafts, my name is Tariq Jamal and I’m
here today to introduce my fabulous new music magazine which is
titled ‘Choral’. It’s a classic music magazine. I chose the name ‘Choral’
as it connotes the music written specifically for a group to perform
which is called chorus or choir. Therefore it’s linked to classical music
as orchestras are usually groups that sing together in classic music
events therefore they could be classified as choral.
Proposal
• The reason I chose classic music as a genre is the world’s oldest genre of music,
therefore I feel that it should keep on expanding and more people should know and
hear about it.
• The intentions of my magazine is to be a Market Leader in the genre as there aren’t
many famous classic music magazines.
• It’s going to compete with BBC Music Magazine as this magazine is the only market
leader classic music magazine there’s in the market.
• As I’m aiming to be a market leader in the market, I’m going to highly promote my
music magazine throughout media platforms. Such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter. This
is because I want my magazine to be promoted as much as it can and be known to a lot
of people through social media as they’re popular websites.
Examples of promoting
Production plan
Launch Date: 1st December 2014. This is because it’s in winter and a lot of classic musical events
tend to happen in winter near Christmas time. Therefore I’d take the chance of producing my
magazine around in December so it can have adverts about classical musical events in January &
February and this would help to increase the popularity of my magazine to the target audience of
my music magazine. As there are a lot of classical musical events at winter, I can also have adverts
promoting my magazine during classical musical events (i.e. Opera events). For example having
posters of my magazine which would grab the attention of the target audience of my music
magazine who are attending that event.
Budget Summary
Budget Summary
• Promoting on Facebook - I’m going to create an advert for my page for people on
Facebook to see. When I create an advert from my Page, I can choose the
maximum amount I’d spend each day by clicking ‘Daily Budget’ option next to the
dropdown menu. Then I’ll see an estimated number of likes next to the amount of
money I’d pay per day. For example, $5.00 (£3.19) would get me an estimated 3-24
likes daily. The daily budget is the maximum amount I’d be willing to spend each
day to promote my page. For example, if I choose a $10 (£6.38) daily budget and
run my advert for 7 days, I will be charged up to $70 (£44.69).
• Source: http://en-gb.facebook.com/help/209213872548401/
• Advertising on TV: the national average cost on TV for a 30-second advert is
£227,500, for example I’d choose to advertise between the breaks of the
programme Downton Abbey on ‘ITV’ as it’s aimed at older and upper class people,
and that’s my target audience for my magazine.
• Source: http://www.ehow.co.uk/facts_5625807_average-cost-advertising-magazine_.html
Target Audience
• My magazine would be focused on upper/middle class people which falls under the categories A & B in the
socio-economic needs.
• Higher/intermediate managerial, administrative or professional occupations.
• Based on secondary research 37% of the readership from A & B. Most of high/middle class people listen to
world classic music as it’s more relaxing and not as aggressive as other genres of music.
• They can afford these events.
• Adverts (Rolex, Pandora) are aimed at upper/middle class people who can afford these type of things.
• Hartley’s 7 subjectivities theory (age, gender).
• The secondary research showed that the target age for BBC music magazine is 41
• 56% are male while 44% are female.
• My magazine follows the same target audience and target gender for the BBC Music Magazine.
• Not a lot teenagers would be interested as they’d go for more of the rap/pop style of music.
• Adverts in the magazine aren’t focused on teenagers who are celebrities.
• The target gender is both male and female. Because the adverts in the magazine are equally balanced and
not just focused on specific gender, therefore this makes both male and female interested in the magazine.
Target Audience
Target audience would be aimed at people 50+. It will contain interviews and stories about conductors, Opera
singers, events that are related to world classic music, etc. I’ll also Include facts and pictures about different
Opera houses around the world. Based on my research, BBC music magazine had advertisements about
upcoming festival events that relate to classic music. Therefore, I’m going to do a similar type of thing as I
would be advertising upcoming events such as Opera that events in my magazine to let the reader have wider
knowledge. There will be advertising in my magazine. For example based on the research I made on my
chosen music magazine (BBC music magazine, a Rolex would be advertised at the back cover of my magazine
as it will attract upper class people to it.
Lifestyle and spending power
• Price is £3.99 for the copy monthly.
• BBC music magazine costs £4.99 for the copy monthly.
• £1 cheaper might encourage people to purchase my magazine.
• Might encourage the ‘C1’ (lower middle class) category to buy the magazine. My research shows
that 25% of readers of BBC music magazine are from C1.
• Cheaper magazine than BBC might encourage the people from that category (C1) to buy the copy of
my magazine more as £1 cheaper could matter to people from that category.
• Upper class people would stereotypically like to go listen Opera in the theatre or listen to London
Proms.
• Upper class people would be able to afford expensive designer clothes, for example: Ralph Lauren.
Also, you’d expect upper class people to wear tuxedo in most of their evenings out.
• They could afford expensive watches such as Rolex.
Mood Board
Brand identity
• Content page
• My magazine would contain interesting world classical music events/festivals that grab the attention of the reader
and make them go to it.
• I’m going to have my masthead on top of the magazine front cover as it’ll show exactly what the name of my
magazine to the consumer is.
• Social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter pages. Posts about the most recent news related to world classical
music.
• It updates every hour or if there’s a breaking news, to keep the people who follow it up to date.
• I’m also going to have social media links along with my music magazine’s website link at the bottom of the front
cover and at the bottom of the page of each feature (i.e. interview, educational, etc.).
• Social media websites will allow the reader of my magazine to go online and investigate what events and stories my
magazine have on social media.
• Having links to social media on the front cover of the magazine would also let the reader of my magazine know that
my magazine is available online on these therefore this would help to expand my magazine globally.
Colour schemes
• The colours I’m going to use are black and white. Based on the research I made, the magazine had a
lot of black and white colour schemes in it to connote the genre of the music which is classic. The
black and white colours connote that classic is still present these days as Tuxedos are black and
white and therefore this could relate back to the main theme costume of the classic music events.
Also, Tuxedo’s are the main theme costume that people wear to attend classical musical events
(Such as BBC Night of The Proms) therefore these colours would be suitable for the genre of my
music magazine.
• I also chose grey because it’s mixture of black and white and therefore it has some sense of classic
music. It’s also the colour of the background the front cover of one of the BBC Music Magazine
editions.
Magazine flat plan
Masthead font styles
I chose this font as it connotes some sense of classical
writing in it and it connotes that older/upper class
people writing would be similar and this font also looks
like this masthead on the BBC music magazine at the
bottom of this slide so it will grab the attention as it
would look appealing to the target audience.

Plan for images
Location
1) Time
2) Date
3) Why?
Time – Evening Date – weekend This is because evening is where most
classic music events take place.
Weekends are when usually the classic
music events take place.
Picture
Needed/Required
1) Shot Type
2) Props/Equipment
3) Lighting
4) Costume
5) Person/people
6) Why?
1) Shot type - Long
Shot
2) Props/Equipment -
3) Lighting -
4) Costume - Tuxedo,
smart expensive
shoes, bowtie.
5) People -
Conductors, upper
class people, Opera
singers.
1) Shot Type - This is because it gives the reader a
clearer image of the person that is being pictured so
they see the whole picture in front of them and
what’s going on around it. Having a long shot also
helps to see the whole costume of the person in the
picture which makes it easier for the reader to see it.
2) Props/Equipment – Tuxedo,
3) Lighting – Lighting would be focused on the person
that being pictured
4) Costume would be a smart black/white
Tuxedo as it connotes a classic theme and
therefore it links to the genre of my music
magazine as smart costumes are worn in
these type of classic music events such as
Opera.
5) People - This is because conductors,
upper class people, & Opera singers are
involved in classic music therefore it fits
the genre of my music magazine.
Conductors & Opera singers run the event,
while upper class people would be the
main people who would attend these type
of events.
Permission Needed
1) Contact needed
to be made
2) Evidence of this?
Contacting my cousin
via email asking
them what
costume/equipment/
props they need to
bring.
Potential
Hazards/Risks
1) Location specific
2) Why?
Taking a picture of
my friend in a
Tuxedo having a
glass of Champagne
in their hands.
A hazard would be that they might spill the drink on
their Tuxedo and therefore it’d ruin it.
Taking a picture of my uncle wearing a
Tuxedo near a bridge. The hazard of that
would be that he might fall over off the
bridge.
Drafts
Front Cover – Draft
The masthead is on the top of the front cover is because
this will grab the attention of the reader as it’s obvious
to spot. Also, my research connotes that my magazine of
inspiration ‘BBC Music Magazine’ has its masthead on
top of its front cover page.
Front Cover – Draft
The denotation of the main
headline ‘Why Schubert
hasn’t finished his
symphony?’ is almost
challenging the consumer to
read the magazine as it’s a
rhetorical question. This will
make the consumer think
that the answer to this
question is in the magazine
and so therefore this would
encourage them to find out
the answer and purchase
the magazine and read it to
find out about the main
headline.
Front Cover – Draft
• My puff promotion would be winning 2
free tickets for the Night of Proms in Royal
Albert Hall. The denotation of that is a big
event for classic music genre and a lot of
the people who read my magazine would
be interested to go to that event so having
a feature that promotes it would increase
the appeal for my music magazine. It’s
positioned on the right hand corner so
this would grab the attention of the
reader as it’s easy to notice so when the
reader goes to turn the page, they’d
notice it straight away and therefore it will
grab their attention. Including the page
number would also encourage the
consumer to open my magazine and go to
that page and read about this feature.
Double page spread – Draft
The denotation of the link to my web address will attract the attention of the
reader when they’re close to finish reading each interview. Having a link to my
web address will allow the reader of my magazine to go online and investigate
what events and stories my music magazine have on its website so it will have
more information for the reader. As you can see in the screenshot from BBC music
magazine there’s a web address link at the bottom of the interview so I adapted
this method to my music magazine.
Double page spread (Choral) – Draft
The denotation of drop capital makes the feature on my double page
spread look less dull as the rest of the text is heavy and recognisable for
the reader. Therefore it’s different than just normal text. The font of the
drop capital would be the same font as the title of the feature/interview
which connotes that they’re connected and to also distinguish the drop
capital from the rest of the text on the double page spread.
Double page spread (Choral) – Draft
The denotation of the links to social media at the bottom of each
page next to the page number will attract the attention of the reader
when they’re close to finish reading each page. Having links to social
media websites will allow the reader of my magazine to go online and
investigate information about the interview in my magazine. From
there they can also find out information about different events my
music magazine has. Having links to social media would increase the
popularity and appeal of my music magazine.
Double page spread – Draft
For the main image, I’m
going to have a picture at
the middle of the page to
grab the attention of the
reader and to make my
double page spread look
less dull; I’m also going to
have captions underneath it
to let the reader know
what’s exactly going on
within the picture.

Changes
• Mr Crafts told me to change the background of the front cover as it looked ‘dull’ and
‘boring’ to the reader, therefore I changed the background to the colour grey which is a
colour that I found on a BBC Music Magazine issue before. I also added a low opacity
violin in the background to reflect the passion my magazine has for classic music. The
colour grey would also attract more attention than the colour white so it would make
my front cover look better. Mr Crafts also told me to add the puff promotion on the
front cover and told me to add social media logos near the barcode to ‘promote’ my
magazine more.
• For the double page spread, Mr Crafts again told me that the background looked ‘dull
and boring’ as it was plain white so I added shaded music notes to the background to
make my magazine look more interesting and to reflect the passion of classic music in
my magazine. I also had a lot of empty space on the top of my magazine which Mr
Crafts pointed out to me. He suggested that I should add a picture to make my page
look better so I added a picture. He also told me to add captions to let the reader
‘know’ what the image ‘connotes’ and why is it there.

• In the next issues, we will look into the history of famous
artists. Such as Beethoven, Mozart.
• We’ll also give the ratings of the best symphonies of all
times.
• We’ll look into young prospects of classical music.
Plan for the magazine
• Sales figures – From my research, BBC music magazine sells around 40,000 copies a year. As I’m
trying to compete with that magazine and be a market leader (as there aren’t any proper
competitors), I’m going to try sell my copies at around the same number in a year.
• Average a month = £13,000
• Average sales a month = 3,337 copies a month
• Circulation = 40,044
• More during winter.

feminine name and therefore it fits the target audience of my magazine which is female audience.

appeal of my music magazine.
Double page spread (Opera) – Draft
For the main image, I’m
going to have a picture at
the middle of the page to
grab the attention of the
reader and to make my
double page spread look
less dull; I’m also going to
have captions underneath it
to let the reader know
what’s exactly going on
within the picture.

The masthead is on the top of the front cover is because
this will grab the attention of the reader as it’s obvious
to spot. Also, my research connotes that my magazine of
inspiration ‘BBC Music Magazine’ has its masthead on
top of its front cover page.
The social media logos connote that consumers can go online and
find my magazine on the social media websites (Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter). This is helpful as my pages on social media
would contain updates about special features (Such as tickets for
world classic music events). This would then grab the attention of
the consumers as they’d follow my page on social media and
therefore it can encourage them to buy my magazine.
Puff
promotion
My puff promotion would be winning 2 free tickets for the Night
of Proms in Royal Albert Hall. The denotation of that is a big
event for classic music genre and a lot of the people who read
my magazine would be interested to go to that event so having a
feature that promotes it would increase the appeal for my music
magazine. It’s positioned on the right hand corner so this would
grab the attention of the reader as it’s easy to notice so when
the reader goes to turn the page, they’d notice it straight away
and therefore it will grab their attention. Including the page
number would also encourage the consumer to open my
magazine and go to that page and read about this feature.

For the main headline, I decided to use a rhetorical
question as this would grab the attention of the
reader of my magazine and it would therefore make
the reader think that the answer to this question is
in the magazine and so therefore this would
encourage them to find out the answer and
purchase the magazine and read it to find out about
the main headline.
Having the website is very important as this
would make the reader go online and research
magazine on the internet. This makes the
reader find out more information about my
magazine outside of its paper copy and they
can also buy the copy online and read the
copies online if they don’t want to purchase it
from the market. It also makes my magazine
look more approachable and flexible as it can
be viewed on the internet also.

Opera’s Graphic Layout (Double Page
Spread) connotations
• For the main image, I’m going to have a picture at the middle of the page to grab the attention of
the reader and to make my double page spread look less dull; I’m also going to have captions
underneath it to let the reader know what’s exactly going on within the picture.
• The denotation of the links to social media at the bottom of each page next to the page number will
attract the attention of the reader when they’re close to finish reading each page. Having links to
social media websites will allow the reader of my magazine to go online and investigate information
about the interview in my magazine. From there they can also find out information about different
events my music magazine has. Having links to social media would increase the popularity and
appeal of my music magazine.
• The denotation of the link to my web address will attract the attention of the reader when they’re
close to finish reading each interview. Having a link to my web address will allow the reader of my
magazine to go online and investigate what events and stories my music magazine have on its
website so it will have more information for the reader. As you can see in the screenshot from BBC
music magazine there’s a web address link at the bottom of the interview so I adapted this method
to my music magazine.
• The denotation of drop capital makes the feature on my double page spread look less dull as the
rest of the text is heavy and recognisable for the reader. Therefore it’s different than just normal
text. The font of the drop capital would be the same font as the title of the feature/interview which
connotes that they’re connected and to also distinguish the drop capital from the rest of the text on
the double page spread.
Colour scheme
1) Black, red, pink & white – This is because pink has a mixture of red and white. Red represents
passion of classic music and it relates back to Opera as the theatre usually has red curtains and
red seats in it. Red is also an attractive colour that grabs the attention of the reader and therefore
this would make them want to buy the magazine. There’s also the red carpet which many famous
upper class people walk on it in famous festivals, Academy Awards, etc. This connotes that red is
an attractive colour that is used for big events. The other colours I’m going to use are black and
white. Based on the research I made, the magazine had a lot of black and white colour schemes in
it to connote the genre of the music which is classic. The white colour is a classic colour that is
seen across music magazines. As my music magazine is aimed at female, the colour pink also
represents the femininity so it would attract the females. Also, the colour black mixes with the
white as they both shows the true classic colours and they’re both the colours of the Tuxedo
which is something worn to classic music events which links back to the genre of my magazine.
Target Audience
Target audience would be aimed at women 40+. It will contain interviews and stories about conductors,
Opera singers, events that are related to world classic music, adverts about famous designer make-up,
etc. My magazine would contain interesting world classical music events that relate to women. I’ll also
include adverts to grab their attention and to make my magazine more popular. For example I would
have adverts about expensive Make-up as this would attract upper class women which would be the
main target audience of my music magazine and would be the main category of people that will read my
music magazine. Another example, a necklace from a famous Designer would be advertised at the back
cover of my magazine as it will attract upper class women to it. I’ll also Include facts and pictures about
different Opera houses around the world. Based on my research, BBC music magazine had
advertisements about upcoming festival events that relate to classic music. As you can see below,
‘Pandora’ is an expensive jewellery brand that upper class people tend to pay interest in, therefore
having an advert of ‘Pandora’ would increase the popularity of my magazine as it suits the target
audience and make my music magazine look appealing.
Conclusion
• WWW –
• This learning outcome helped me to look at my pitch and realise what
good things I and what bad things I did during my pitch. It helped me to
improve my pitching skills so when I pitch next time I know what to avoid
and what to add on to my pitch.
• EBI –
• I should have sent my survey monkey to more people and therefore I
would have got more results which would make my feedback more
reliable.
• In the next learning outcome I should be able to use the feedback gained
from this learning outcome (pitch) to inform the development and
planning of my magazine for the future. Therefore this learning outcome
helped me to understand what needs to be done to improve my magazine
so in the next learning outcome I know what to do in terms of improving
things, such as front cover, double-page spread, etc.

  • 5. Environment of both presentations Before I started my presentation I wanted to take a few pictures of the environment and the place that I’m going to present my pitch. The clicker in the first picture on the left is important as I’d use it in switching the slides on the screen. It’s easy to use and it looks professional. It also makes the process quicker as I don’t have to do it from the computer therefore it saves time. The screen which is the middle picture is essential in the pitch as it’s a big screen and therefore it’s a good way of presenting my work as it makes it easy for everyone to see my presentation clearly. The computer which is the last picture on the right is also useful in terms of having my presentation on it so it can go on the big screen as the screen and the computer are linked with each other. The computer is where all my work is so therefore it’s essential to have it in the environment of presentation as I’m going to open the presentation from it. The clicker and the screen are also linked with each other as when I press the forward button on the clicker the slide on the screen moves to the next one and so on.
  • 7. Introduction • Hello, very nice to meet you Mr Crafts, my name is Tariq Jamal and I’m here today to introduce my fabulous new music magazine which is titled ‘Choral’. It’s a classic music magazine. I chose the name ‘Choral’ as it connotes the music written specifically for a group to perform which is called chorus or choir. Therefore it’s linked to classical music as orchestras are usually groups that sing together in classic music events therefore they could be classified as choral.
  • 8. Proposal • The reason I chose classic music as a genre is the world’s oldest genre of music, therefore I feel that it should keep on expanding and more people should know and hear about it. • The intentions of my magazine is to be a Market Leader in the genre as there aren’t many famous classic music magazines. • It’s going to compete with BBC Music Magazine as this magazine is the only market leader classic music magazine there’s in the market. • As I’m aiming to be a market leader in the market, I’m going to highly promote my music magazine throughout media platforms. Such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter. This is because I want my magazine to be promoted as much as it can and be known to a lot of people through social media as they’re popular websites.
  • 10. Production plan Launch Date: 1st December 2014. This is because it’s in winter and a lot of classic musical events tend to happen in winter near Christmas time. Therefore I’d take the chance of producing my magazine around in December so it can have adverts about classical musical events in January & February and this would help to increase the popularity of my magazine to the target audience of my music magazine. As there are a lot of classical musical events at winter, I can also have adverts promoting my magazine during classical musical events (i.e. Opera events). For example having posters of my magazine which would grab the attention of the target audience of my music magazine who are attending that event.
  • 12. Budget Summary • Promoting on Facebook - I’m going to create an advert for my page for people on Facebook to see. When I create an advert from my Page, I can choose the maximum amount I’d spend each day by clicking ‘Daily Budget’ option next to the dropdown menu. Then I’ll see an estimated number of likes next to the amount of money I’d pay per day. For example, $5.00 (£3.19) would get me an estimated 3-24 likes daily. The daily budget is the maximum amount I’d be willing to spend each day to promote my page. For example, if I choose a $10 (£6.38) daily budget and run my advert for 7 days, I will be charged up to $70 (£44.69). • Source: http://en-gb.facebook.com/help/209213872548401/ • Advertising on TV: the national average cost on TV for a 30-second advert is £227,500, for example I’d choose to advertise between the breaks of the programme Downton Abbey on ‘ITV’ as it’s aimed at older and upper class people, and that’s my target audience for my magazine. • Source: http://www.ehow.co.uk/facts_5625807_average-cost-advertising-magazine_.html
  • 13. Target Audience • My magazine would be focused on upper/middle class people which falls under the categories A & B in the socio-economic needs. • Higher/intermediate managerial, administrative or professional occupations. • Based on secondary research 37% of the readership from A & B. Most of high/middle class people listen to world classic music as it’s more relaxing and not as aggressive as other genres of music. • They can afford these events. • Adverts (Rolex, Pandora) are aimed at upper/middle class people who can afford these type of things. • Hartley’s 7 subjectivities theory (age, gender). • The secondary research showed that the target age for BBC music magazine is 41 • 56% are male while 44% are female. Because the adverts in the magazine are equally balanced and not just focused on specific gender, therefore this makes both male and female interested in the magazine.
  • 14. Target Audience Target audience would be aimed at people 50+. It will contain interviews and stories about conductors, Opera singers, events that are related to world classic music, etc. I’ll also Include facts and pictures about different Opera houses around the world. Based on my research, BBC music magazine had advertisements about upcoming festival events that relate to classic music. Therefore, I’m going to do a similar type of thing as I would be advertising upcoming events such as Opera that events in my magazine to let the reader have wider knowledge. There will be advertising in my magazine. For example based on the research I made on my chosen music magazine (BBC music magazine, a Rolex would be advertised at the back cover of my magazine as it will attract upper class people to it.
  • 15. Lifestyle and spending power • Price is £3.99 for the copy monthly. • BBC music magazine costs £4.99 for the copy monthly. • £1 cheaper might encourage people to purchase my magazine. • Might encourage the ‘C1’ (lower middle class) category to buy the magazine. My research shows that 25% of readers of BBC music magazine are from C1. • Cheaper magazine than BBC might encourage the people from that category (C1) to buy the copy of my magazine more as £1 cheaper could matter to people from that category. • Upper class people would stereotypically like to go listen Opera in the theatre or listen to London Proms. • Upper class people would be able to afford expensive designer clothes, for example: Ralph Lauren. Also, you’d expect upper class people to wear tuxedo in most of their evenings out. • They could afford expensive watches such as Rolex.
  • 17. Brand identity • Content page • My magazine would contain interesting world classical music events/festivals that grab the attention of the reader and make them go to it. • I’m going to have my masthead on top of the magazine front cover as it’ll show exactly what the name of my magazine to the consumer is. • Social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter pages. Posts about the most recent news related to world classical music. • It updates every hour or if there’s a breaking news, to keep the people who follow it up to date. • I’m also going to have social media links along with my music magazine’s website link at the bottom of the front cover and at the bottom of the page of each feature (i.e. interview, educational, etc.). • Social media websites will allow the reader of my magazine to go online and investigate what events and stories my magazine have on social media. • Having links to social media on the front cover of the magazine would also let the reader of my magazine know that my magazine is available online on these therefore this would help to expand my magazine globally.
  • 18. Colour schemes • The colours I’m going to use are black and white. Based on the research I made, the magazine had a lot of black and white colour schemes in it to connote the genre of the music which is classic. The black and white colours connote that classic is still present these days as Tuxedos are black and white and therefore this could relate back to the main theme costume of the classic music events. Also, Tuxedo’s are the main theme costume that people wear to attend classical musical events (Such as BBC Night of The Proms) therefore these colours would be suitable for the genre of my music magazine. • I also chose grey because it’s mixture of black and white and therefore it has some sense of classic music. It’s also the colour of the background the front cover of one of the BBC Music Magazine editions.
  • 20. Masthead font styles I chose this font as it connotes some sense of classical writing in it and it connotes that older/upper class people writing would be similar and this font also looks like this masthead on the BBC music magazine at the bottom of this slide so it will grab the attention as it would look appealing to the target audience. Choral

  • 22. Plan for images Location 1) Time 2) Date 3) Why? Time – Evening Date – weekend This is because evening is where most classic music events take place. Weekends are when usually the classic music events take place. Picture Needed/Required 1) Shot Type 2) Props/Equipment 3) Lighting 4) Costume 5) Person/people 6) Why? 1) Shot type - Long Shot 2) Props/Equipment - 3) Lighting - 4) Costume - Tuxedo, smart expensive shoes, bowtie. 5) People - Conductors, upper class people, Opera singers. 1) Shot Type - This is because it gives the reader a clearer image of the person that is being pictured so they see the whole picture in front of them and what’s going on around it. Having a long shot also helps to see the whole costume of the person in the picture which makes it easier for the reader to see it. 2) Props/Equipment – Tuxedo, 3) Lighting – Lighting would be focused on the person that being pictured 4) Costume would be a smart black/white Tuxedo as it connotes a classic theme and therefore it links to the genre of my music magazine as smart costumes are worn in these type of classic music events such as Opera. 5) People - This is because conductors, upper class people, & Opera singers are involved in classic music therefore it fits the genre of my music magazine. Conductors & Opera singers run the event, while upper class people would be the main people who would attend these type of events. Permission Needed 1) Contact needed to be made 2) Evidence of this? Contacting my cousin via email asking them what costume/equipment/ props they need to bring. Potential Hazards/Risks 1) Location specific 2) Why? Taking a picture of my friend in a Tuxedo having a glass of Champagne in their hands. A hazard would be that they might spill the drink on their Tuxedo and therefore it’d ruin it. Taking a picture of my uncle wearing a Tuxedo near a bridge. The hazard of that would be that he might fall over off the bridge.
  • 24. Front Cover – Draft The masthead is on the top of the front cover is because this will grab the attention of the reader as it’s obvious to spot. Also, my research connotes that my magazine of inspiration ‘BBC Music Magazine’ has its masthead on top of its front cover page.
  • 25. Front Cover – Draft The denotation of the main headline ‘Why Schubert hasn’t finished his symphony?’ is almost challenging the consumer to read the magazine as it’s a rhetorical question. This will make the consumer think that the answer to this question is in the magazine and so therefore this would encourage them to find out the answer and purchase the magazine and read it to find out about the main headline.
  • 26. Front Cover – Draft • My puff promotion would be winning 2 free tickets for the Night of Proms in Royal Albert Hall. The denotation of that is a big event for classic music genre and a lot of the people who read my magazine would be interested to go to that event so having a feature that promotes it would increase the appeal for my music magazine. It’s positioned on the right hand corner so this would grab the attention of the reader as it’s easy to notice so when the reader goes to turn the page, they’d notice it straight away and therefore it will grab their attention. Including the page number would also encourage the consumer to open my magazine and go to that page and read about this feature.
  • 27. Double page spread – Draft The denotation of the link to my web address will attract the attention of the reader when they’re close to finish reading each interview. Having a link to my web address will allow the reader of my magazine to go online and investigate what events and stories my music magazine have on its website so it will have more information for the reader. As you can see in the screenshot from BBC music magazine there’s a web address link at the bottom of the interview so I adapted this method to my music magazine.
  • 28. Double page spread (Choral) – Draft The denotation of drop capital makes the feature on my double page spread look less dull as the rest of the text is heavy and recognisable for the reader. Therefore it’s different than just normal text. The font of the drop capital would be the same font as the title of the feature/interview which connotes that they’re connected and to also distinguish the drop capital from the rest of the text on the double page spread.
  • 29. Double page spread (Choral) – Draft The denotation of the links to social media at the bottom of each page next to the page number will attract the attention of the reader when they’re close to finish reading each page. Having links to social media websites will allow the reader of my magazine to go online and investigate information about the interview in my magazine. From there they can also find out information about different events my music magazine has. Having links to social media would increase the popularity and appeal of my music magazine.
  • 30. Double page spread – Draft For the main image, I’m going to have a picture at the middle of the page to grab the attention of the reader and to make my double page spread look less dull; I’m also going to have captions underneath it to let the reader know what’s exactly going on within the picture.

This makes the reader find out more information about my magazine outside of its paper copy and they can also buy the copy online and read the copies online if they don’t want to purchase it from the market. It also makes my magazine look more approachable and flexible as it can be viewed on the internet also. The masthead is on the top of the front cover is because this will grab the attention of the reader as it’s obvious to spot. Also, my research connotes that my magazine of inspiration ‘BBC Music Magazine’ has its masthead on top of its front cover page. The social media logos connote that consumers can go online and find my magazine on the social media websites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). This is helpful as my pages on social media would contain updates about special features (Such as tickets for world classic music events). This would then grab the attention of the consumers as they’d follow my page on social media and therefore it can encourage them to buy my magazine. Puff promotion

  • 36. Changes • Mr Crafts told me to change the background of the front cover as it looked ‘dull’ and ‘boring’ to the reader, therefore I changed the background to the colour grey which is a colour that I found on a BBC Music Magazine issue before. I also added a low opacity violin in the background to reflect the passion my magazine has for classic music. The colour grey would also attract more attention than the colour white so it would make my front cover look better. Mr Crafts also told me to add the puff promotion on the front cover and told me to add social media logos near the barcode to ‘promote’ my magazine more. • For the double page spread, Mr Crafts again told me that the background looked ‘dull and boring’ as it was plain white so I added shaded music notes to the background to make my magazine look more interesting and to reflect the passion of classic music in my magazine. I also had a lot of empty space on the top of my magazine which Mr Crafts pointed out to me. He suggested that I should add a picture to make my page look better so I added a picture. He also told me to add captions to let the reader ‘know’ what the image ‘connotes’ and why is it there.

  • 61. Colour scheme 1) Black, red, pink & white – This is because pink has a mixture of red and white. Red represents passion of classic music and it relates back to Opera as the theatre usually has red curtains and red seats in it. Red is also an attractive colour that grabs the attention of the reader and therefore this would make them want to buy the magazine. There’s also the red carpet which many famous upper class people walk on it in famous festivals, Academy Awards, etc. This connotes that red is an attractive colour that is used for big events. The other colours I’m going to use are black and white. Based on the research I made, the magazine had a lot of black and white colour schemes in it to connote the genre of the music which is classic. The white colour is a classic colour that is seen across music magazines. As my music magazine is aimed at female, the colour pink also represents the femininity so it would attract the females. Also, the colour black mixes with the white as they both shows the true classic colours and they’re both the colours of the Tuxedo which is something worn to classic music events which links back to the genre of my magazine.
  • 62. Target Audience Target audience would be aimed at women 40+. It will contain interviews and stories about conductors, Opera singers, events that are related to world classic music, adverts about famous designer make-up, etc. My magazine would contain interesting world classical music events that relate to women. I’ll also include adverts to grab their attention and to make my magazine more popular. For example I would have adverts about expensive Make-up as this would attract upper class women which would be the main target audience of my music magazine and would be the main category of people that will read my music magazine. Another example, a necklace from a famous Designer would be advertised at the back cover of my magazine as it will attract upper class women to it. I’ll also Include facts and pictures about different Opera houses around the world. Based on my research, BBC music magazine had advertisements about upcoming festival events that relate to classic music. As you can see below, ‘Pandora’ is an expensive jewellery brand that upper class people tend to pay interest in, therefore having an advert of ‘Pandora’ would increase the popularity of my magazine as it suits the target audience and make my music magazine look appealing.
  • 65. Conclusion • WWW – • This learning outcome helped me to look at my pitch and realise what good things I and what bad things I did during my pitch. It helped me to improve my pitching skills so when I pitch next time I know what to avoid and what to add on to my pitch. • EBI – • I should have sent my survey monkey to more people and therefore I would have got more results which would make my feedback more reliable. • In the next learning outcome I should be able to use the feedback gained from this learning outcome (pitch) to inform the development and planning of my magazine for the future. Therefore this learning outcome helped me to understand what needs to be done to improve my magazine so in the next learning outcome I know what to do in terms of improving things, such as front cover, double-page spread, etc.
