What do you remember about the
Present Perfect Tense? (Unit 4, 7, 11)
The Present Perfect Tense is used to describe an action
that began in the past and continues to now.
We also use the Present Perfect to say that an action
happened at an unspecified time before now.
The exact time is not important.
Function
Present Perfect: have/has + past participle
Questions
Have you eaten breakfast yet?
What has she done today?
Positive Sentences
We have been to France.
He has gone to Spain.
Negative sentences
I have never ridden a helicopter.
They haven’t arrived from Busan yet.
Already
have/has + already + past participle
• Example
- We've already had our breakfast.
Already
• ‘Already’ is used to say that something has
happened earlier.
- I’ve already spent my salary and it’s two weeks
before pay day.
- The train has already left! What are we going to do?
• ‘Already’ usually comes in mid-position.
Yet
have/has + past participle + yet
(haven’t/hasn’t)
• Examples
- Has the package arrived yet?
- I haven’t bought the tickets yet.

• ‘Yet’ is used to talk about something
which is expected to happen.
• ‘Yet’ is used in questions and negatives.
• ‘Yet’ usually comes at the end of the
sentence.

• Have you finished your homework yet?
The speaker expects to have the homework
be finished.
Yet
Used in negatives:
• I haven’t finished it yet. I’ll do it after
dinner.
The speaker hasn’t finished but he expects
to do it.
Make sentences in present perfect.
Say what you have already done (+)
and what you have not done yet (-).

  • 15. Already • ‘Already’ is used to say that something has happened earlier. - I’ve already spent my salary and it’s two weeks before pay day. - The train has already left! What are we going to do? • ‘Already’ usually comes in mid-position.
  • 16. Yet have/has + past participle + yet (haven’t/hasn’t) • Examples - Has the package arrived yet? - I haven’t bought the tickets yet.
  • 17. Yet • ‘Yet’ is used to talk about something which is expected to happen. • ‘Yet’ is used in questions and negatives. • ‘Yet’ usually comes at the end of the sentence.
