The Effects Of Rap Music On Social Behavior Essay
In society today, it is highly noticed that the role of rap music messages and video images of
violence causes an increase in negative emotions, thoughts and behaviors which could lead to
violence amongst youth. Rap music has been at the center of concern in regards to the potential
harmful effect of violent media on social behavior amongst youth. This potential behavior could be
seen in the music video titled Kim by Eminem. In this music video, the storyline, language and
sound encourages hostile thoughts and feelings amongst its audience. In the music video, Kim
husband catches her cheating on him in their home with another man, while he is away. However,
when Marshall gets home and finds out that his wife is cheating on him, he gets upset, angry, and
abusive and becomes violent towards his wife Kim. He screams at her saying that, if she moves
again, he will beat the shit out of her (Line 11). Violencein rap music has increased in response to
the complex interplay of changing social conditions such as the elevated levels of youth violence in
the changing commercial practices within the music industry. Hence, the media influences violence
in four negative ways, which contributes immensely to anger amongst youth which leads to
aggressive behavior such as social violence, substance abuse, domestic violence, and negative
perceptions of women.
In the song, Eminem s anger and emotions is used as a premise in the music lyrics, which

Female Priests And The Gender Inequality Within The...
Female priests and the gender inequality within the Catholic Church
From the rampant persecution of science and inquiry during the Age of Enlightenment, to the
condemnation of abortion and the use of contraceptives in the most HIV/AIDS ridden regions of
Africa today, the Catholic Church has nearly always been the thorn in the side of progressive ideas,
movements, organizations, and institutions. Today the Catholic Churchremains one of the largest
religious entities on the planet, with nineteen percent of the world s population and a half of all
Christians adhering to its religious doctrines ( Catholic Desires for Change ). Catholicism is unique
among Christian secs for its incredibly long history and staunch traditionalism. The church structure
has remained almost unchanged since the time of the Roman Empire, and its doctrines are slow
evolving at best. The Catholic Church only recently amended its stance on the heliocentric nature
of the solar system, when in nineteen ninety two Pope John Paul II exonerated Galileo Galilei s
crimes of heresy, three centuries after the man s death (Cowell, 1992). As many western institutions
begin to diversify their gender and ethnic makeup, the Catholic Church has remained almost devoid
of female participation in all positions of authority and significance. The Church s sedated
progressivism has never been more egregious than in the rapidly changing society of the last half
century, with the millennia old barriers of sexism rapidly

An Exploration Of The Omnipotence Of Death
Amanda Stevenson Dr. Sigler EN 317 5 April 2016 An Exploration of the Omnipotence of Death
Initially, it seems as if the Death presented in Emily Dickinson s Because I could not for Death
was meant to parallel a suitor. In fact, Chris Semansky claims that Death in the poem is
personified as a suitor who takes his potential bride away from her busy life (Semansky).
However, with further investigation, it becomes evident that Death is actually a representation
of God, extinguishing the possibility of a romantic aspect. Death does not show any definite
affection toward the speaker, but rather, He is kind and respectful, which confirms that Death
does not have to be seen as a suitor. Although there is no explicit mention of spirituality within
the poem, given Dickinson s Christian background, along with her consistent poetic themes
involving life and death from a religious standpoint, an extended metaphor of God as Death is
feasible. Death initially stops for the speaker because she is unable to stop for herself, revealing
the inabilities of mankind and the need for help in some form. In Because I could not stop for
Death , Dickinson reveals that man s short fallings are consolidated through the manifestation of
God s power. This is done through the illustration of a carriage ride as well as the strategic use of
a flashback. In alignment with Dickinson s other poems, Because I could not stop for Death does
not actually have a title. By taking the

An Effective Classroom Management Strategies
To successfully establish effective classroom management strategies, teachers must have a well
organized classroom, be attentive to students, be knowledgeable of their abilities, generate
appropriate and engaging lesson plans, and create a safe learning environment. There are several
instructional videos that exemplify these effective classroom strategies for example in Case
#00059, Subject: Library Media, the librarian instructor has an attractive and well organized
classroom. Maintaining an attractive and well organized classroom is an important classroom
managementstrategy because learningtools are easily accessible and students are more likely to
engross themselves in studying if the environment is appealing. According to Dr. Sheryl Reinisch,
director of Early Childhood EducationPrograms at Concordia University, studies indicate that high
quality classroom environments help children feel safe, secure, and valued. As a result, self

A Government s Change Of Political Structure
A government s change of political structure needs a careful and cautious review of the various
factors that would evidently adjust for the benefit and advantage of a nation s progress and
existence. The Soviet Republic of Livonia has decided to change its government into a democratic
one with two options that would guide them. And although the goal and objectives are purposeful
and legitimate, the transition would be the most crucial stage of this change because everything
may either fall into place or fall out in synchronism. Democracyis a good choice for the new
independent nation considering that there is a new means of allowing their people to actively
cooperate with the government. The right of suffrage will allow the citizens to elect their chosen
representatives especially for the higher and important positions. Through the constitution, people s
rights and responsibilities will be codified enduring limits to their new government. Frye (309)
claimed that even citizens could participate through political parties that would help the proper
dispersion of financial budgets. However, there is a great threat that economic reform might only
be beneficial to narrow business groups and wealthy personalities that would create a privatization
of some economic regulations. These types of people may drain the country s resources for their
benefits. Frye (309) suggests that such political competition and diverse political coalitions might
even prevent the productive transition

United Kingdom And Its Influence On The United States
History
Many public schools teach basic government to students, and from what they taught, many know
that United Kingdom had a great influence to the United States and the rest of the world due to
their long history. United Kingdom known as Britain is well known for conquering multiple
colonies and ruling them for long period of times.
United Kingdom s history of dominance over ruling empires goes back to 19th century, when an
act of union created United Kingdom on January 1st, 1801. This act was joined by England,
Scotland and Wales, all of Great Britain along with Ireland. It was stated that Catholics were still
unable to vote at elections or hold position in offices or parliamentary. During this beginning of the

powers were looking to expand their power and influence over areas that were left during the fall

happened due to Britain wanting to take control of gold and diamond mines in Boer areas.
20th century was a progress and decline time for the United Kingdom. It was during this time that
many improvements changed the life of everyday in the UK. In 1902 Education bill was passed that
abolished the school boards and gave free education to the children. Children were getting more
education than before, when they had to work long hours instead. Women got the right to vote in
elections in 1918 but were on the same voting terms as men in 1928. Late 19th century Britain main
industries were coal, iron/steel, engineering and clothing. But these declined into early 20th century
and moved into specialized manufacturing, and service industries. The invention of washing
machines and other appliances made women jobs easier. Women were given equal rights with the
passing of Sex Discrimination act in 1975.

The Fast Subject
The Fast Subject is a concept that many managers struggle to really get their head round. Chosen
as one of the best in class, I m proud to publish this fine example of a leadership essay from one of
the top universities in the UK.
How the concept fast subject (Thrift, 2000) embodies the idealised cultural image of success for
management in the 21st century.
Thrift s (2000) paper portrays a very distinct idea of the modern Western world; both as a whole
and the world of work. It is key to remember that management feeds from the wider cultural
environment the world; it is not standing alone by itself. We need to know what is going on in the
world to see what is going on in management, for example, assessment centres could be seen ...

It is probably that Lidl know that culturally, young and modern members of generation Y will not
have them as their first choice employer, it will be somewhere trendy like Apple therefore they
have to offer the chance to develop the skills that management as a whole wants, i.e. fast subject
skills.
The word star suggests that Lidl are looking for someone special, in modern day society we are
obsessed with stars and celebrities; this advertisement says that you can be the star of the business
world and gain all the associated benefits such as money to fund the lifestyle of this creature, but
also the social benefits such as respect and interest from others.
Cadbury s (p. 91) graduate jobs advertisement in the guide shows a reminder of the popular
gorilla television advert for the firm s products. This image links to our culture, what is cool and
modern, again showing the link between the world of management and society overall. It is also
recent, showing that it is aimed at young professionals who can do it all; they can gain a good
degree whilst also being aware of what is going on socially around them. Along with using the
expected language, the text includes the word brand which attracts prospective employees because
they want to work for this company so when they tell people where they work, the people will
know where it is and be interested.

Sovereign State Formation and Stimulation of Increased Ethnic Conflict
This paper looks to examine parallels in the rise of ethnic tensions that have followed state building
efforts of multiple forms in regions that had legacies of colonial rule, traditionally independent
states, and newly independent states. In considering the potential for ethnic conflicts to become
violent we must consider the fact that the ethnic divisions have evolved in a longer running
historical context that includes the colonial and post colonial periods. As modern states have
become institutionalized across the Third World, the politicization and conflicting nature of ethnic
divisions have taken on new dimensions as the newly created states have taken up the mantles of
aspiring to represent the entire nation. (Wimmer, 1997) The role of ethnicityhas played varying
degrees of importance in either solidifying or fragmenting the creation of national identities. Ethnic
wars became increasingly common in numbers in the years from 1950 1999, comprising 55 percent
to 72 percent of all civil wars during the period. Additionally, in the 1990s alone, more than 200
ethnic minorities and subordinate majorities throughout the world were contesting their political
status. (Johnson, 2008). As new nations develop, ethnic conflict is often a key source of division
within states for a variety of causes.

Civil War Turning Point Analysis
Before the Civil War, tensions between the North and South were rising. The North put protective
tariffs on the South for their own benefit and Lincoln planned on abolishing slavery in the
expanding territories. Those actions made the South angry and viewed them as a threat to their
lifestyle. As a result, this led to the Civil War. As the war went on, Confederate General Robert E.
Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865.
This was a colossal turning point as this led to the end of the Civil War, making the North
victorious. However, during the attempts to unite the country back together, the attempt of the
Radical Republicans trying to gain support backfired. White Southerners were so... Show more

When the North need a great leader the most, they had Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln was an
effective leader during the war. He was very firm in his orders and was a direct problem solver.
Lincoln preferred to react to problems and to circumstances that others had created rather than
to originate policies and lay out long range designs. At first, however, Lincoln believed that he
should leave the running of the army to his generals. With the generals running the Union army,
the leadership was inefficient. The ineffective leadership of the generals led to defeats of many
battles in 1862. After many frustrating exchanges with his generals, Lincoln had to change
leadership styles. He became more assertive and decisive. He became more direct with his orders
and used his power as Commander in Chief to guide his army. In 1863, he issued direct
instructions to his generals. Lincoln placed General Joseph Hooker, who had repeatedly defied
his suggestions, into strict military relation to General Halleck. He told Halleck to give Hooker
orders as he would have to obey them. In other words, Lincoln was a powerful leader as he was
able to give out orders efficiently. As he changed this leadership style to a more dominant one, the
Union army won important victories, notably at Vicksburg and Gettysburg. Lincoln s leadership got
the Union army moving and eventually got General Lee to surrender at the Appomattox Court
House in Virginia in 1865, winning the Civil

Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans
Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the
conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always
been this way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially
incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically
awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically
awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479,
Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the
need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are
nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class
grade curves.
Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups:
Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some
groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their
population size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely
populated with the same race, therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized
from personal experience, that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me
with the stereotypes that are generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I am told
that I am tall for being Asian as the stereotypes say that Asians females generally are shorter in
stature and are petite with light skin and pin straight black hair. On occasion, I am told that I look
more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of
comments regarding my eyes and about how little they are. These experiences have made me
believe that the role that Asian Americans play in the race conversation now is that when the
conversation turns to Asian America, people automatically look towards stereotypes along with
looking at certain traditional cultures often stating things such as, I really like Asian foods or, I
think that kimonos are

Literary Works Based On War And Heroism

In reading The Iliad and Beowulf, one can conclude they are both literary works based on war
and heroism. The hero in the Iliad is Achilles, who is from Greece and is the Archaen army s
greatest warrior in the battle of the Trojan war. Beowulf, a Geatish warrior has come to help the
Danes in their long fight against Grendel, showing his heroism. Both characters Achilles and
Beowulf share some similar traits such as their thirst for glory, their abnormal strength, and their
courage. The characters also display several differences among each other as in they are not from
the same cultures, Beowulf is more selfless than Achilles, and Achilles fights humans instead of
mythical creatures such as Beowulf does. In medieval literature and todays literature, heroism is
important simply because it gives people hope and inspires them. As stated before, Achilles and
Beowulf were both thirsty for glory and I think that trait is still present in today s time which
cannot always be positive. Also, in todays time it is not the term hero that has changed. It is we
who have changed. For most people, the media, pop culture, and events in society change our
perception of a hero. In Beowulf, Beowulf s thirst for glory is expressed throughout the entire
story. Inspired again by the thought of glory, the war king threw his whole strength behind a sword
stroke and connected with the skull (2677 2680) . In the Iliad, Achilles shows his

Covert Misdirection And The Trick Essay
The first known performative act of magic occurred around 2700 B.C. with the simple ball and cup
trick. This conjuring act, and the evolution of many others, that utilize the sleight of hand (i.e.,
carefully performed fine motor skills meant to deceive) capitalize on a slew of cognitive
psychological principles (Macknik, Randi, Robbins, Teller, Thompson, Martinez Conde, 2008;
Barnhart, 2010). Further, psychological and neuroscientific fascinations in the workings of magic
are not limited to the 20th and 21st centuries. Psychologists of the 19th century, like Joseph Jastrow,

Born To Run By Dr. Vigil
My thinking, before reading the text Born to Run, was that the evolution of humanity was solely
based on the utilization of brain rather than our running capability. Unfortunately, due to the rapid
development of technology, humanity has forgotten about one of its most valuable talents, running .
The text emphasizes running as an essential trait in the evolution of humans. I agree with the author
that all of us were indeed born to run based on these human traits: energy efficiency and endurance
performance, thermoregulatory system, and injuries induced from technology.
Secondly, endurance performance can also explain why humans developed distance running
through morphology and humans respiratory system. Dr. Vigil infers that distance running used to
be revered, as it was indispensable in a way that humans used running to survive, thrive, and spread
across the planet (Pgs.92 93). Humans needed to run in order to find food and avoid being eaten by

The Science of Shopping versus The Signs of Shopping Two Sides of an Issue Shopping has
become a daily activity which happens a billion times in America and around the world. We cannot
imagine how our lives would be affected if shopping was suddenly stopped. Malcolm Gladwell and
Anne Norton both write articles about two sides of modern day shopping: how consumers have
impacted the retail industry and how the industry influences consumers. In the article The Science

gaze, because Paco isn t hostile at all, readers do not find any kind of subjective emotion in his

is one of the strongest points that makes his essay more convincing compared with Norton s

way he feels when he interacts with Paco: Paco Underhill is a tall man in his mid forties, partly
bald, with a neatly trimmed beard and an engaging, almost goofy manner (Gladwell 98). This
gives readers a clear image of Paco Underhill like he actually stands before them. In contrast,
Norton shows her negative voice in the Shopping at the Mall part of the article. Norton writes
Those who own and manage the mall restrict what come within their confines (105). Using many

out what exactly they were. The DASH eating plan as intentions to lower hypertension, USDA
food patterns were created for citizens to follow their dietary guidelines, and the Mediterranean diet
is not a diet, if is a lifestyle (Wiley, Visualizing Nutrition) that one will normally continue with.
Some similarities between the diets are that they all want you to intake the correct amount of food,
no more no less, and they all focus on very similar types of food. While reading our Visualizing
nutrition book, I learned that all of these eatingstyles they are all very nutrient dense styles of eating,
including fish, other seafoods and proteins,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these common claims say promise of fast weight loss quantities and imitations,
promotes specific food combinations, and no need to be physically active. (WordsonWellness).
You never want to all of the sudden and dramatically lose weight, it is far better to gradually lose
weight. FAD diets that avoid eating multiple food groups take away the vitamins that the human
body needs to survive and be healthy. FAD diets that tell you to eat at certain times are also
incorrect, you should eat when you feel hungry but only eat until you are satisfied and not full.
Lastly, diets that say you do not need any physical activity may be shedding weight off of your
body, but you are not gaining muscle and becoming stronger, in the long term you may even feel
weaker. Many people who become apart of the FAD diet community think that their health will
improve, in some cases this is inaccurate. Based on what I have learned in past nutrition classes
and my own personal experience they can actually be very bad for your health, not just the inside
of your body, but the outside too. You may notice muscle and even hair loss. I had a friend who
started losing her hair when starting a very common FAD diet. You will also notice deficiencies in
your nutrition especially if you cut out carbs because they are the main source of our energy.

Indirect Clorimetry And Temperature
1. A calorimeter is an instrument that we can use for direct and indirect calorimetry, which can
give us volume measurements of CO2 and O2 that our lungs exhale and inhale during a certain
time frame. Direct calorimetry can be defined as a method where the body gauges the quantity of
energy it has produced and its body rate through direct measurement of the heatthat is produced in
the body. Indirect calorimetry can be defined as a method of measuring the body s respiratory
gases that will give us an estimate of the body energyexpenditure.

Impact of Divorce on Adolescents Essay
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2011 there were
2,118,000 marriages in the United States and almost half as many divorces (2013). The CDC also
reports that only half of all first marriages will reach their twentieth anniversary. Divorce is a topic
everyone is familiar with and it has almost become a normal part of life. While it is assumed that
more divorces occur now than in the previous generation, the CDC actually reports that divorce
rates have dropped over the past twenty to thirty years, though this could be due to the increase in
individuals who live together without ever getting married or those who simply separate and
cannot afford to become legally divorced. However, it has become a more... Show more content on

However, if one of the individuals in the marriage is resisting the divorce, or situations are
complex, such as children being involved, then divorces can take a long time to finalize and can
become extremely messy affairs. The constant arguing, disagreements, snide comments and hateful
words that occur during this time frame, which most likely started before the topic of divorce was
even brought up, can take a toll on not just the two individuals whose marriage is ending, but
everyone else who is involved, no matter how little their involvement is. Adolescence is defined as
the period of transition between childhood and adulthood that involves biological, cognitive, and
socioemotional changes (Santrock, 2012, p. 16). This time period can be very stressful in itself
with all the changes that are going on physically, socially and emotionally. Not only is an
individual experiencing physical changes as they enter puberty but his or her social roles are
also changing and that can be difficult to adjust to. It can be hard enough for a person to discover
who he or she is and to become their own person during this time of transition, but that is made
even more difficult when the individual s home life is thrown into chaos and he or she experiences
the turmoil of divorce. Experiencing a parental divorce or separation during adolescence can have
long term effects not only on the teenager s

Seduction In The Hours And The Awakening
A shiny, crisp red fruit hangs enticingly off a lush verdant branch; a sly, seductive serpent and a
woman in the nude converse under the sacred tree, and then Eve tentatively reaches up and plucks
the juicy crimson fruit, a look of panic only reflected on her face once she realizes the gravity of
her decision. She picks the forbidden fruit and her ignorance is ripped away from her like a
newspaper on a windy day, and this single act started a trend of succumbing to temptations
throughout humanhistory. Even in the novels The Hours and The Awakening, the characters are
tempted by someone else or a different idea; however, some of these characters exhibit strong self
control and avoid their demise. The fine line between success and failure when it comes to avoiding
temptation is most obviously demonstrated by Edna Pontellier and LauraBrown, and these two
women showcase the destructive power of seductionand the strength of will it takes to deny the
enticement. The allure of the unknown is not exclusive to the female sex either, many men in the
novel also suffer from it, namely Robert Lebrun. The secret snare of temptation is interwoven
throughout the stories, and the sliver of thread can be glimpsed between the inky words. Many
different types of temptations exist in the world, but one of the most prevalent kinds is the
temptation of another human being. The ideal partner, the gold standard of lovers, is a temptation
not many can resist. There is some inherent part of the

Notes On Sherlock Holmes And The Scientific Community
Within the scientific community some people believe that you cannot have a scientific mind and
hold to religious beliefs (p. 87). They come to this assumption because they see religious faith as
a form of mental illness, which is limited to a certain population (religious people only) (p. 72).2
When reasoning logically one most understand that not all things can be proven wrong or right.
Sometimes things do not lend themselves to a right or a wrong answer. However a person can see
where a line of thought leads too, which delivers a person to a certain conclusion even though it
may not be a right or wrong.

logic. However McGrath notes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An endless series of causes and events does not make sense. This would mean a continual causal
loop which cannot exist, nor could a causal chain of infinite length exist without there being
something to first cause the loop to begin. This would require some kind of unrestricted or ultimate
being which we Christians and some philosophers call God.
The Apostle Paul speaks about natural revelation in Romans 1:20 and Albert Einstein alludes to
natural revelation3 when he says, I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this
but expressed it clearly. If there is something in me called religious then it is the unbounded
admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. With natural revelation
we see that one can logically construct the belief in a God by simply observing the things present in
nature.
The prevalent acceptance that the universe had a chronological origin meaningfully shifted the
stance in favor of belief in a first cause or an intelligent designer of the universe, which caused the
universe to appear (Pg. 84).2 Many scientist hold to the theory that the universe is continually
moving out away from a central focus point. What is this central focal point? Christians can point to
this being the creator or the creation form which God created the universe Ex nihilo.

Singapore s Economic Growth And Political Stability
Founded as a British trading colony in 1819, Singapore later joined the Malaysian Federation in
1963, but separated two years later and became independent. Over the years, Singapore has grown
its international trading links becoming one of the most prosperous countries. Singapore has been
compared to the leading nations of Western Europe when it comes to its per capita gross domestic
product (GDP). Singapore has one of the world s busiest ports when comparing most tonnage

politicians administer Singapore, meritocracy is power, which is gained through performance, skill,

Examples Of Fashion Trends In The 1920s
Fashion Trends in the 1920s In the 1920s, women wore day dresses, in the day, hence it s called
day dresses. For day dresses, the dress were short and loose. It wasn t until 1925 when the length
of the day dresses was around the knees. The waistline for the day dresses were right below the
bust line and as time went on, the waistline lowered. So by 1922, the waistline for the day
dresses were around the hips. As for the colors of the day dresses, the 1920s was really into
floral prints and pastel colors. Besides from day dresses, evening dresses were completely the
opposite. Depending on the quality and style of your evening dresses, it would basically show
the women s social status, how much money they would have. Everything on the evening dress
was expensive, from the accessories such as beads to its material. There are many different
styles of necklines on the formal dresses and it consists of a low square cut, scoop, or a V shape. As
for the back of the dresses, it would either be a low scoop or V also. To complete the formal look,
women would also add on accessories such as jewelry. There would be long necklaces, which
are usually made out of fake pearls/beads, cuff bracelets that would usually go up to the arm or
around the biceps, and those were made out of either gold or silver, earrings that we usually long,

Coping with Unexplained Fertility
If you and your partner have trouble conceiving for six months to a year, you might think you have
a fertility problem. Your next step is to go to a clinic and get tested for infertility symptoms. If
these tests result in no answers, you are diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
According to the Center for Human Reproduction, around 30% of women diagnosed with infertility
are thought to have unexplained infertility. The CHS believe this is a misleading faux diagnosis
that actually impedes patients from receiving appropriate infertility treatments. You and your
partner may conceive if you try more treatments, but it might take an emotional toll.

Reading Comprehension And The Key Pillars Of Reading...
Reading comprehension is the ability to read the text, process what you just read and then be
able to understand what you read well enough to explain it to a fellow peer clearly and precisely.
Reading comprehension is a link in the chain that is the five pillars of reading instruction. The
first pillar being phonemes, second is phonics, third and fourth is fluency and vocabulary and
finally the fifth is comprehension. It s the caboose of the pillars you might say. While all of the
pillars are vital to the ability to read I ve witnessed many children able to read efficiently and
fluently, but not able to explain what they just read. Those children did not suffer from ADHD,
and if some of them struggled with comprehension it makes you assume that kids with diagnosed
ADHD will most likely have an even harder time. According to Kaprea Johnson, The ability to read
and comprehend is a major milestone in a child s life and has long standing effects throughout the
lifespan (Johnson, 2013, p. 98). With that being said, the importance of readingcomprehension is
pretty clear. In the experiment to test whether or not ADHD has any affect on reading
comprehension Johnson (2013) included 129 elementary students ranging from third through sixth
grade. The students were analyzed through some comprehension tests that measured their ability to
read and then understand what it was that they were reading. Then the variables such as
hyperactivity, conduct problems and peer problems were

In Block v. Rutherford, 468 U. S. 576 (1984), it was concluded that banning contact visits would be
beneficial since visitors can conceal prohibited items and they can easily be transferred to the
inmates through close contact and it would be too difficult to tell which inmates have violent
tendencies as the inmate population is constantly changing. A new inmate can pose numerous risks
to the staff and existing detainee population. Therefore, it is important that correctional officers
conduct a thorough search as part of their standard procedure for all new inmates. Incoming
inmates need to be searched in order to detect any concealed contraband that may disrupt the safety
and operation of a jail as well as treating individuals who may have wounds or visual infections.
Decision: The Supreme Court affirmed the judgment of the Court of Appeals of the Third Circuit
holding that strip searches do not violate the Fourth Amendment. They concluded that due to the
likelihood of inmates smuggling illegal/prohibited items, it was reasonable that the facilities
conducted thorough searches in order to maintain the safety and order of the institutions.

Both Jane Addams and Saul Alinsky, worked to enact social change within the poor neighborhoods

and accomplishments. However, Addams and Alinsky s approaches to bring about social change

This falls back to Alinsky s do anything to win mentality and win he did. The BYNC housed the
infant station and the Chicago Settlement never regained its footing within the community. Alinsky
had again proved the effectiveness of his methods (Hamington, 2010). Addams and Alinsky appear
to have very different organizing philosophies. Alinsky himself often commented how his methods
were so different than those of the settlement houses. These comments however, should have been
more directed at what the settlement houses had become and not at the originating principles of
Jane Addams Hull House. Jane Addams herself would likely disapprove of the direction that the
settlement houses had moved towards. Addams and Alinsky both recognized the importance of
listening and learning the needs of the community in order to gain perspective. Addams recognized
that when existing social institutions do not provide a reasonable means for citizen participation,
those citizens will organize to resist... Similarly, Alinsky viewed his organizations as fully
democratic [stating]: This kind of organization can be built only if people are working together for
real, attainable objectives (Hamington, 2010). The connections between the philosophies of
Addams and Alinsky are inextricably linked. The resonance between the social philosophies of
Addams and Alinsky is not surprising if the Chicago School connection is taken into account.

How Copyright Law Was Established, And How The...
Nowadays, most of American institutions require the students to sign the plagiarism form before
attending the class in order to prevent their students from taking somebody s work without giving
credits. I believe intellectual laws are as important as any other law because it defines the ethical
aspect of the three core values of the United States of America liberty, freedom and democracy.
Copyrightlaw is an intellectual law that grants ownership to the author and protects the author from
copyright infringement. This paper will discuss how copyright law was established, and how the
establishment influences advertising. I begin by examining the history of copyright before it
became a constitutional law. I will also explain why the copyright is protected under the First
Amendment. After that, I will interpret some significant copyright acts that had been established
since it first started, but my main focus will be on the role of fair use in the Copyright Act of
1976, which set up the primary basis for the copyright laws in the United States. The investigation
will demonstrate how fair use relates to copyright matters in advertising, or commercial speech .
The conclusion will emphasize the significance of fair use in advertising.
The copyright law in America originated in the fifteenth century after England introduced the use of
the printing press. Due to the growth in the number of printing presses, the authorities began to seek

The Role Of Perfectionism In Eating Disorders
When perfectionist behaviour can be considered as a state that is under conscious control, it can
be deemed as merely a healthy desire to excel (Eusanio, Thomson, and Jaque, 2014). However, if
perfectionism is a personality trait, it cannot be consciously controlled and has been proven to
show positive correlations with mental illness such as anxiety and depression (Enns and Cox,

the result may have been different if there were more dancers involved in the research suffering

Essay on The Cause of the Economic Boom in the 1920 s
The Cause of the Economic Boom in the 1920 s
By the end of the First World War America was regarded as the most powerful and richest country
in the world. In the 1920Вґs the United States economy was booming. This was a period of
prosperity, when the country s economy was doing well and some of the people were sharing in it.
A long term cause of the American boom in the 1920Вґs was America s natural advantage and
regional diversity. The South was mainly used for farming but also had large amounts of oil. The
North of America and the East Coast were the richest parts of America because there was lots of
industry, business and many new factories were being built providing new jobs. This large area of ...

America was only able to do all these things as the country was rich and full of resources.
America did not suffer any damages in the war (apart from loss of military lives) whereas it s
business rivals such as Britain suffered hugely. There was a huge rise in production at this time.
There were many important short term causes as well as the obvious long term cause and
turning point that contributed to the boom. One short term reason for the boom was the policy
of the Republican Party. From 1920 to 1932 all the US presidents were Republican. Republicans
believed that the government should interfere as little as possible in the everyday lives of the
people. When the Republicans came to power they introduced tariffs, this made it expensive to
buy foreign goods. The tariffs protected US businesses from competition. The Republicans kept
taxation as low because of this everybody had more money and they would buy American goods
(because they were cheaper) or invest it in the American economy. The Republican attitude was to
interfere as little as possible in business and let people handle it the way they saw fit, the result of
this was a richer and happier America for about 60% of the people.
Another short term reason for the boom was the emergence of new industries in America.
Americans loved new products such as the automobile, by 1929 millions of people owned cars. A

In Praise Of The F Word By Mary Sherry
A few students will either leave high school happy or upset for many reasons. According in the
story of In Praise of the F Word, by Mary Sherry, she believe that it s healthy fear of failure, which
mean students can fail. Also, she believes that if a student is misbehaving in class, to threatened
them by saying I will flunk you in the class. By threatening the students, she strongly believes that
they will straight up and they will do their work. In other words, students care about more in the
grades then the actually learning in class.
When students flunk in school, it looks imperfect on the school and many more of other reasons.
Now the students have to retake the classes, because they were either not doing the work or just
didn t care about school. It starts to show how some students prefer to drop out of school for
drugs and etc. If they feel like they re not smart for whatever reason, their excuses will be oh not
doing the work, because I don t understand. When they can ask for help or get a tutor that will be
willing work out the problems for them.
Therefore, students that choose to flunk in school is a bad thing. The reason why, because they
find so many excuses to fail when they can t try it out first before saying it s too hard. It won t
hurt them to ask for help instead of trying to run away from the issues. It all begins with
participating in class and study until you get it memorize. Sometimes it is difficult to get the hang

Reflection Paper On Medical Futility
Reflection Assignment #3:
In correspondence to Wicclair s testament to a pretense of scientific objectivity, comparative to a
patient s refusal of treatment, medical futility refers to conflicts between physicians and patients or
surrogate decision makers, predominantly parents, regarding the non provision of life sustaining
treatment with respect to palliative care. (p. 359. The juxtaposition of medical futility serves to
implicate the incapacity to perform the very purpose of medicine, which is to save life itself.
Questions regarding such provisions or the lack of, relative to medical futility, are inclusive to
whether a practicing and licensed physician has the moral right and duty to refuse to provide
treatment judged to be futile as well as whether the patient or parent has the moral and legal right to
insist on treatment whilst the doctor has a corresponding duty to provide such treatment?
According to Daniel Sulmasy, The notion of medical futility is a lightning rod, attracting all the
static in an atmosphere charged with rising patient expectations, rocketing healthcare costs and
attacks on professional judgment. Therefore, in deliberating Wicclair s article, it is imperative that
we analyze the nature of the ethical conflict surrounding medical futility with specific references to
claims based on patient/parental autonomy as well as identifying and justifying relevant
professional norms that would normally ground a duty to limit futile treatment.

Osama Bin Laden Good Or Bad
Everyone knows who Osama Bin Laden is and about his horrendous lasting impact on our country
and our planet, but have you ever wondered why someone would do something so awful? Osama
Bin Laden became the world s most wanted man because of his early life education, the forming of
Al Qaeda, and his attacks on the United Statesin 2001. Bin Laden grew up in a good, very
successful home, and then moved onto one of the most prestigious high schools in Jedda and was
very successful. It was through an exclusive Islamic study group with a teacher where Osama
learned the principles of violent jihad and that the Arab world should go by those rules even if it
meant supporting death and destruction (Osama bin laden). These extreme views may have never

Daily Food Plan
This paper will be on doing comparisons on my Meal Tracking Worksheets and my Daily Food
Plan. Hopefully, I will examine how healthy or unhealthy my eating habits have been compared to
what they should be. The Grains, Vegetables, Fruits, Dairy, Protein and Oils food groups will be
reviewed in a thorough manner. Eatingthe right amount of portions from each foodgroup, will
determine how healthy I have been and will become in the near future.
My Food Plan is an 1800 calorie allowance per day. My grain allowance is 6 ounces per day. I
average a total of 4 ounces per day eating fast foods. Secondly, the vegetable group is supposed to

I eat them throughout my day as I work. My plan consists of 1 ВЅ cups per day. I have eaten a total
of 6 cups the past three days. My vitamin D intake is very poor. Dairy products were not a major
concern for me, but now I see that it should be, since I am supposed to consume 3 cups per day.
These past three days I have consumed 3 cups which is not great for me, considering I am
supposed to intake that amount in one particular day. I prefer not to consume milk, but I will
find other alternatives to help fulfill my dairy daily intake. When it comes to protein, my intake
is supposed to be 5 ounces per day. Within the past three days I have consumed 20 ounces. This
means that I eat more proteins than my diet includes. Lastly, my oil intake is supposed to be 5 tsp.
per day. Those 5 tsp. plus five have consisted in my diet for the past three days.
After going over my Meal Tracking Worksheet and my Daily Food plan, I have finally realized
that my eating habits are extremely poor. I should do better, not only for me but for my
beautiful children as well. Therefore, this coming week, I have to make better food choices
while I am at work and at home. In order to improve, grocery shopping is a must. The areas that I
need to improve on include grains and dairy. Cutting back on my fruits, oils and proteins have to
be done. In doing all of these things, I can make myself and my family

What Is The Tone In The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey, arguably the best and most well known epic poem there is, is full of
literary elements that bring the story it s fame. With its events being told by Odysseus after he
already experienced them, Homer has the opportunity to write with a level of dramatics that isn t
often seen in other literary works. He uses this to his advantage, developing tone and theme and
other literary elements in the best possible way. Homer uses diction in The Odysseyto create a tone
of anticipation. In The Land of the Dead, Homer s use of the word somber creates an anticipating
tone. In line 630, Homer writes ...he bent down to the somber blood, depicting the moment when
the prophet, Tiresias, drinks the offering Odysseusset out to be able

The Posadas Research Paper
Las Posadas is Spanish for The Inns , and it is a religious festival celebrated across Mexico and
some parts of the United States. It is held between December 16 and 24, and lasts for nine
evenings. The Posada begins with the recitation of the Holy Rosary, a beautiful prayer to the
Mother of Jesus, Mary. It finally ends with the Posada and Midnight Mass on December 24th. It
commemorates the journey that Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search
of a location where Mary could give birth. When they weren t able to find lodging in Bethlehem,
Joseph and Mary were forced to seek shelter in a stable, where Jesus was born. The tradition of
the Posadas was brought to Mexico from Spain in the 1500 s by Catholic Missionaries, and are not
to be confused with simply a Christmas party. Instead, the Posadas should be seen as a religious
event.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is primarily made up of children dressed in silver and gold robes carrying lit candles and
pictures of Mary and Joseph riding a donkey. Sometimes they may become quite elaborate with
live donkeys, parishioners dressed like Mary and Joseph, and a small group carrying a manger
scene. Adults and musicians follow the procession, which visits selected homes. The homes
have been chosen before the Posada, and the group goes up to the house and asks for lodging for
Joseph and Mary. Traditionally, the families do not let the procession come in, but the hosts often
provide refreshments. At each stop, passages of scripture are read and Christmas carols are sung.
When they are finally allowed into a house, the La Posada dinner, provided by the host family of
the night, includes Hispanic dishes as tamales, menudo and posoli. As the night draws to an end,
small bags filled with treats and candies called aguinaldos are distributed as parting gifts to the

Madoff s The Great Ponzi Scheme
Mr. Madoff s crimes were extraordinarily evil. The breach of trust was massive. I simply do not
get the sense that Mr. Madoff has done all that he could or told all that he knows. These are all
quotes given by the US district attorney Denny Chin that give a mere glimpse into the horrible
impact that Bernie Madoff has had on 21st century American society. Madoff cheated investors
worldwide in the biggest Ponzi scheme in American history stealing over sixty five billion dollars
from his clients .His enormous ponzi scheme was essentially evil genius and because of this

he s willing to make an exception for you. He says if you get in on this opportunity now, you ll

Film Films Of Alfred Hitchcock
Films of Alfred Hitchcock
Humans have an insatiable urge for entertainment, part of which is often satisfied through
watching movies. Whenever a movie is written and subsequently produced, there are a couple of
themes that accompany it. Though all movies have a significant amount of simulated actions,
many of the themes do occur in the real life. Writers tend to have a particular thought to develop
into a plot, which is often inspired by real life events. Then, when a movie is being written and
produced, the relevant personnel decide which genre to adopt. Horror, science fiction and action
are some of the categories for movies. In this paper, the focus lies on a 1960 Alfred Hitchcock film,
Psycho where a theme comprising of violence, sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As noted with the other movies, there is hardly a film with a single theme; many have more than
even two, and Psycho is no exception. Even though it has a number of these, this paper, as
already indicated will primarily focus on sexuality, violence and phallic of proxy. When Crane
decides to vanish with her employer s money, the boss unfortunately, sees her. Consequently, this
causes her to be nervous, and makes wrong decisions in the process. After overcoming the
seemingly opposition fronted by a police officer who finds her asleep, Crane continues to a motel
called Bates motel, belonging to a Mr. Norman Bates(Smith, p14).
Up to that point, one can see several themes including that of symbolic economy. First, when
Crane decided to steal the money, the financial pressure she was experiencing catalyzed the
decision. It is not always that horror movies are used in relation to money related issues, and
especially in matter of debts. Yet, movies have a way of affecting people in a number of positive
ways especially when the plot resonates with the normal life. According to Breslin (p.176), the
media, especially through the movies influence and influence the human behavior significantly.
When showing a woman who decides to elope with the employer s money, the Psycho captures the
mind of the viewers as it related with the cases they face each day.
The issue of symbolic economy in the movie is not limited to the theft

Evaluating An Informative Speech
In an informative speech, the quintessential aspect that can make or break your speech is the
audience. If the audience is a group of 12 year olds, then giving a speech on how to retire at 65
is not going to draw a positive response. Knowing certain demographics about the audience,
including age, gender, race and many others should determine the topic of your speech.
Accordingly, the relevancy of my speech played a pivotal role in its effectiveness because of how
relatable an issue it was to my audience. Also, sharing the same demographic with the audience
gave the speech a more familiar tone, than the normal speech given by someone who is older. In
my informative speech, I effectively discussed the correct process of how to buy textbooks with
minor errors because of an effective introduction, clear and concise content and relevant topic. An
audience can immediately tell on how well a speech will be as soon as the introduction is
completed. Evidently, my speech gave a strong introduction in which I outlined the layout of my

could have been added to the speech, would be to add a concluding statement that wraps up the

  • 2. The Effects Of Rap Music On Social Behavior Essay In society today, it is highly noticed that the role of rap music messages and video images of violence causes an increase in negative emotions, thoughts and behaviors which could lead to violence amongst youth. Rap music has been at the center of concern in regards to the potential harmful effect of violent media on social behavior amongst youth. This potential behavior could be seen in the music video titled Kim by Eminem. In this music video, the storyline, language and sound encourages hostile thoughts and feelings amongst its audience. In the music video, Kim husband catches her cheating on him in their home with another man, while he is away. However, when Marshall gets home and finds out that his wife is cheating on him, he gets upset, angry, and abusive and becomes violent towards his wife Kim. He screams at her saying that, if she moves again, he will beat the shit out of her (Line 11). Violencein rap music has increased in response to the complex interplay of changing social conditions such as the elevated levels of youth violence in the changing commercial practices within the music industry. Hence, the media influences violence in four negative ways, which contributes immensely to anger amongst youth which leads to aggressive behavior such as social violence, substance abuse, domestic violence, and negative perceptions of women. In the song, Eminem s anger and emotions is used as a premise in the music lyrics, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Female Priests And The Gender Inequality Within The... Female priests and the gender inequality within the Catholic Church From the rampant persecution of science and inquiry during the Age of Enlightenment, to the condemnation of abortion and the use of contraceptives in the most HIV/AIDS ridden regions of Africa today, the Catholic Church has nearly always been the thorn in the side of progressive ideas, movements, organizations, and institutions. Today the Catholic Churchremains one of the largest religious entities on the planet, with nineteen percent of the world s population and a half of all Christians adhering to its religious doctrines ( Catholic Desires for Change ). Catholicism is unique among Christian secs for its incredibly long history and staunch traditionalism. The church structure has remained almost unchanged since the time of the Roman Empire, and its doctrines are slow evolving at best. The Catholic Church only recently amended its stance on the heliocentric nature of the solar system, when in nineteen ninety two Pope John Paul II exonerated Galileo Galilei s crimes of heresy, three centuries after the man s death (Cowell, 1992). As many western institutions begin to diversify their gender and ethnic makeup, the Catholic Church has remained almost devoid of female participation in all positions of authority and significance. The Church s sedated progressivism has never been more egregious than in the rapidly changing society of the last half century, with the millennia old barriers of sexism rapidly ... • 4. An Exploration Of The Omnipotence Of Death Amanda Stevenson Dr. Sigler EN 317 5 April 2016 An Exploration of the Omnipotence of Death Initially, it seems as if the Death presented in Emily Dickinson s Because I could not for Death was meant to parallel a suitor. In fact, Chris Semansky claims that Death in the poem is personified as a suitor who takes his potential bride away from her busy life (Semansky). However, with further investigation, it becomes evident that Death is actually a representation of God, extinguishing the possibility of a romantic aspect. Death does not show any definite affection toward the speaker, but rather, He is kind and respectful, which confirms that Death does not have to be seen as a suitor. Although there is no explicit mention of spirituality within the poem, given Dickinson s Christian background, along with her consistent poetic themes involving life and death from a religious standpoint, an extended metaphor of God as Death is feasible. Death initially stops for the speaker because she is unable to stop for herself, revealing the inabilities of mankind and the need for help in some form. In Because I could not stop for Death , Dickinson reveals that man s short fallings are consolidated through the manifestation of God s power. This is done through the illustration of a carriage ride as well as the strategic use of a flashback. In alignment with Dickinson s other poems, Because I could not stop for Death does not actually have a title. By taking the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Effective Classroom Management Strategies To successfully establish effective classroom management strategies, teachers must have a well organized classroom, be attentive to students, be knowledgeable of their abilities, generate appropriate and engaging lesson plans, and create a safe learning environment. There are several instructional videos that exemplify these effective classroom strategies for example in Case #00059, Subject: Library Media, the librarian instructor has an attractive and well organized classroom. Maintaining an attractive and well organized classroom is an important classroom managementstrategy because learningtools are easily accessible and students are more likely to engross themselves in studying if the environment is appealing. According to Dr. Sheryl Reinisch, director of Early Childhood EducationPrograms at Concordia University, studies indicate that high quality classroom environments help children feel safe, secure, and valued. • 6. A Government s Change Of Political Structure A government s change of political structure needs a careful and cautious review of the various factors that would evidently adjust for the benefit and advantage of a nation s progress and existence. The Soviet Republic of Livonia has decided to change its government into a democratic one with two options that would guide them. And although the goal and objectives are purposeful and legitimate, the transition would be the most crucial stage of this change because everything may either fall into place or fall out in synchronism. Democracyis a good choice for the new independent nation considering that there is a new means of allowing their people to actively cooperate with the government. The right of suffrage will allow the citizens to elect their chosen representatives especially for the higher and important positions. Through the constitution, people s rights and responsibilities will be codified enduring limits to their new government. Frye (309) claimed that even citizens could participate through political parties that would help the proper dispersion of financial budgets. However, there is a great threat that economic reform might only be beneficial to narrow business groups and wealthy personalities that would create a privatization of some economic regulations. These types of people may drain the country s resources for their benefits. Frye (309) suggests that such political competition and diverse political coalitions might even prevent the productive transition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

United Kingdom And Its Influence On The United States History Many public schools teach basic government to students, and from what they taught, many know that United Kingdom had a great influence to the United States and the rest of the world due to their long history. United Kingdom known as Britain is well known for conquering multiple colonies and ruling them for long period of times. United Kingdom s history of dominance over ruling empires goes back to 19th century, when an act of union created United Kingdom on January 1st, 1801. This act was joined by England, Scotland and Wales, all of Great Britain along with Ireland. It was stated that Catholics were still unable to vote at elections or hold position in offices or parliamentary. During this beginning of the 19th Century, Britain ... Chosen as one of the best in class, I m proud to publish this fine example of a leadership essay from one of the top universities in the UK. How the concept fast subject (Thrift, 2000) embodies the idealised cultural image of success for management in the 21st century. Thrift s (2000) paper portrays a very distinct idea of the modern Western world; both as a whole and the world of work. It is key to remember that management feeds from the wider cultural environment the world; it is not standing alone by itself. • 9. Public State Formation And Stimulation Of Increased Ethnic... Michael Snyder State Building Sovereign State Formation and Stimulation of Increased Ethnic Conflict This paper looks to examine parallels in the rise of ethnic tensions that have followed state building efforts of multiple forms in regions that had legacies of colonial rule, traditionally independent states, and newly independent states. In considering the potential for ethnic conflicts to become violent we must consider the fact that the ethnic divisions have evolved in a longer running historical context that includes the colonial and post colonial periods. As modern states have become institutionalized across the Third World, the politicization and conflicting nature of ethnic divisions have taken on new dimensions as the newly created states have taken up the mantles of aspiring to represent the entire nation. (Wimmer, 1997) The role of ethnicityhas played varying degrees of importance in either solidifying or fragmenting the creation of national identities. Ethnic wars became increasingly common in numbers in the years from 1950 1999, comprising 55 percent to 72 percent of all civil wars during the period. Additionally, in the 1990s alone, more than 200 ethnic minorities and subordinate majorities throughout the world were contesting their political status. (Johnson, 2008). As new nations develop, ethnic conflict is often a key source of division within states for a variety of causes. To clarify the linkages between state formation and ethnic conflict ... • 10. Civil War Turning Point Analysis Before the Civil War, tensions between the North and South were rising. The North put protective tariffs on the South for their own benefit and Lincoln planned on abolishing slavery in the expanding territories. Those actions made the South angry and viewed them as a threat to their lifestyle. As a result, this led to the Civil War. As the war went on, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865. This was a colossal turning point as this led to the end of the Civil War, making the North victorious. However, during the attempts to unite the country back together, the attempt of the Radical Republicans trying to gain support backfired. White Southerners were so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the North need a great leader the most, they had Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln was an effective leader during the war. He was very firm in his orders and was a direct problem solver. Lincoln preferred to react to problems and to circumstances that others had created rather than to originate policies and lay out long range designs. At first, however, Lincoln believed that he should leave the running of the army to his generals. With the generals running the Union army, the leadership was inefficient. The ineffective leadership of the generals led to defeats of many battles in 1862. After many frustrating exchanges with his generals, Lincoln had to change leadership styles. He became more assertive and decisive. He became more direct with his orders and used his power as Commander in Chief to guide his army. In 1863, he issued direct instructions to his generals. Lincoln placed General Joseph Hooker, who had repeatedly defied his suggestions, into strict military relation to General Halleck. He told Halleck to give Hooker orders as he would have to obey them. In other words, Lincoln was a powerful leader as he was able to give out orders efficiently. As he changed this leadership style to a more dominant one, the Union army won important victories, notably at Vicksburg and Gettysburg. Lincoln s leadership got the Union army moving and eventually got General Lee to surrender at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia in 1865, winning the Civil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always been this way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479, Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class grade curves. Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups: Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their population size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely populated with the same race, therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized from personal experience, that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me with the stereotypes that are generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I am told that I am tall for being Asian as the stereotypes say that Asians females generally are shorter in stature and are petite with light skin and pin straight black hair. On occasion, I am told that I look more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of comments regarding my eyes and about how little they are. These experiences have made me believe that the role that Asian Americans play in the race conversation now is that when the conversation turns to Asian America, people automatically look towards stereotypes along with looking at certain traditional cultures often stating things such as, I really like Asian foods or, I think that kimonos are ... • 12. Literary Works Based On War And Heroism Kenyia Lepine Instructor Lovoy English 271 June 22, 2015 In reading The Iliad and Beowulf, one can conclude they are both literary works based on war and heroism. The hero in the Iliad is Achilles, who is from Greece and is the Archaen army s greatest warrior in the battle of the Trojan war. Beowulf, a Geatish warrior has come to help the Danes in their long fight against Grendel, showing his heroism. Both characters Achilles and Beowulf share some similar traits such as their thirst for glory, their abnormal strength, and their courage. The characters also display several differences among each other as in they are not from the same cultures, Beowulf is more selfless than Achilles, and Achilles fights humans instead of mythical creatures such as Beowulf does. In medieval literature and todays literature, heroism is important simply because it gives people hope and inspires them. As stated before, Achilles and Beowulf were both thirsty for glory and I think that trait is still present in today s time which cannot always be positive. Also, in todays time it is not the term hero that has changed. It is we who have changed. For most people, the media, pop culture, and events in society change our perception of a hero. In Beowulf, Beowulf s thirst for glory is expressed throughout the entire story. Inspired again by the thought of glory, the war king threw his whole strength behind a sword stroke and connected with the skull (2677 2680) . In the Iliad, Achilles shows his ... Further, psychological and neuroscientific fascinations in the workings of magic are not limited to the 20th and 21st centuries. Psychologists of the 19th century, like Joseph Jastrow, began to recognize the link between the performance of magic and the empiricism of psychologyas means for establishing an argument for the use of the science of magic to study deception and other perceptual cognitive paradigms in more realistic environments. Unfortunately, due to the rapid development of technology, humanity has forgotten about one of its most valuable talents, running . The text emphasizes running as an essential trait in the evolution of humans. I agree with the author that all of us were indeed born to run based on these human traits: energy efficiency and endurance performance, thermoregulatory system, and injuries induced from technology. Secondly, endurance performance can also explain why humans developed distance running through morphology and humans respiratory system. Dr. Vigil infers that distance running used to be revered, as it was indispensable in a way that humans used running to survive, thrive, and spread across the planet (Pgs.92 93). WRIT 102 Feb 24, 2013 The Science of Shopping versus The Signs of Shopping Two Sides of an Issue Shopping has become a daily activity which happens a billion times in America and around the world. We cannot imagine how our lives would be affected if shopping was suddenly stopped. Malcolm Gladwell and Anne Norton both write articles about two sides of modern day shopping: how consumers have impacted the retail industry and how the industry influences consumers. He keeps his tone throughout the article neutral, neither positive nor negative. This is one of the strongest points that makes his essay more convincing compared with Norton s essay. Gladwell is specific when talking about Paco. He gives a brief description of Paco and the way he feels when he interacts with Paco: Paco Underhill is a tall man in his mid forties, partly bald, with a neatly trimmed beard and an engaging, almost goofy manner (Gladwell 98). This gives readers a clear image of Paco Underhill like he actually stands before them. In contrast, Norton shows her negative voice in the Shopping at the Mall part of the article. Norton writes Those who own and manage the mall restrict what come within their confines (105). Using many strong verbs, restrict, permit and a clear negative tone, Norton strongly confirms that Neither freedom of speech nor freedom of assembly is permitted there (105). Despite ... Reading comprehension is the ability to read the text, process what you just read and then be able to understand what you read well enough to explain it to a fellow peer clearly and precisely. Reading comprehension is a link in the chain that is the five pillars of reading instruction. The first pillar being phonemes, second is phonics, third and fourth is fluency and vocabulary and finally the fifth is comprehension. It s the caboose of the pillars you might say. While all of the pillars are vital to the ability to read I ve witnessed many children able to read efficiently and fluently, but not able to explain what they just read. Saul Alinsky Jane Addams Brief Paper #1 Harvey Burchett Northeastern State University SOWK 4733 Practice III Dr. Satara Armstrong, MSW February 8, 2012 Brief Paper #1 Both Jane Addams and Saul Alinsky, worked to enact social change within the poor neighborhoods of Chicago. Both would also go on to inspire many other social changes due to their methodologies and accomplishments. However, Addams and Alinsky s approaches to bring about social change are often described as being polar opposites. One could argue though, that despite these superficial differences, Addams and Alinsky shared a commonality that is not often talked about. Jane Addams started the Hull House. The BYNC housed the infant station and the Chicago Settlement never regained its footing within the community. Alinsky had again proved the effectiveness of his methods (Hamington, 2010). Addams and Alinsky appear to have very different organizing philosophies. Alinsky himself often commented how his methods were so different than those of the settlement houses. These comments however, should have been more directed at what the settlement houses had become and not at the originating principles of Jane Addams Hull House. Jane Addams herself would likely disapprove of the direction that the settlement houses had moved towards. Addams and Alinsky both recognized the importance of listening and learning the needs of the community in order to gain perspective. Addams recognized that when existing social institutions do not provide a reasonable means for citizen participation, those citizens will organize to resist... Similarly, Alinsky viewed his organizations as fully democratic [stating]: This kind of organization can be built only if people are working together for real, attainable objectives (Hamington, 2010). The connections between the philosophies of Addams and Alinsky are inextricably linked. The resonance between the social philosophies of Addams and Alinsky is not surprising if the Chicago School connection is taken into account. Addams and Hull House helped ... Nowadays, most of American institutions require the students to sign the plagiarism form before attending the class in order to prevent their students from taking somebody s work without giving credits. I believe intellectual laws are as important as any other law because it defines the ethical aspect of the three core values of the United States of America liberty, freedom and democracy. Copyrightlaw is an intellectual law that grants ownership to the author and protects the author from copyright infringement. This paper will discuss how copyright law was established, and how the establishment influences advertising. I begin by examining the history of copyright before it became a constitutional law. I will also explain why the copyright is protected under the First Amendment. After that, I will interpret some significant copyright acts that had been established since it first started, but my main focus will be on the role of fair use in the Copyright Act of 1976, which set up the primary basis for the copyright laws in the United States. The investigation will demonstrate how fair use relates to copyright matters in advertising, or commercial speech . The conclusion will emphasize the significance of fair use in advertising. The copyright law in America originated in the fifteenth century after England introduced the use of the printing press. Due to the growth in the number of printing presses, the authorities began to seek the control of the publication of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1920Вґs the United States economy was booming. This was a period of prosperity, when the country s economy was doing well and some of the people were sharing in it. A long term cause of the American boom in the 1920Вґs was America s natural advantage and regional diversity. The South was mainly used for farming but also had large amounts of oil. America did not suffer any damages in the war (apart from loss of military lives) whereas it s business rivals such as Britain suffered hugely. There was a huge rise in production at this time. There were many important short term causes as well as the obvious long term cause and turning point that contributed to the boom. One short term reason for the boom was the policy of the Republican Party. From 1920 to 1932 all the US presidents were Republican. Republicans believed that the government should interfere as little as possible in the everyday lives of the people. When the Republicans came to power they introduced tariffs, this made it expensive to buy foreign goods. The tariffs protected US businesses from competition. The Republicans kept taxation as low because of this everybody had more money and they would buy American goods (because they were cheaper) or invest it in the American economy. The Republican attitude was to interfere as little as possible in business and let people handle it the way they saw fit, the result of this was a richer and happier America for about 60% of the people. Another short term reason for the boom was the emergence of new industries in America. Americans loved new products such as the automobile, by 1929 millions of people owned cars. A ...
