2. Why does it resonate for Me?
• Survivability
• The environment sustains all humans, and without it we will not survive. We all rely on trees to create the
oxygen we breathe, natural systems to filter water we drink, and plants to produce food we eat. There are
a limited amount of resources on Earth that will run out if they are not used sustainably. Even if we
eradicate poverty and other social problems, if we do not take care of the environment then human kind
will not be able to survive.
• Intrinsic Value
• I enjoy outdoor activities such as camping and hiking. I also enjoy nature for its intrinsic beauty. I hope
that the environment will be sustained so that I, my future children, and others can enjoy the outdoors
for years to come.

3. How can my interest be applied locally?
• Businesses
• Regulations can be created to ensure that businesses act sustainably.
• With an overall sustainable culture, businesses who advertise sustainability can receive more business.
• Tacoma Public Works (Schools, Parks, other Public Facilities)
• City regulations can be enacted so that public areas and institutions will become more sustainable.
• Candidates
• Candidates can make their stance on environmental issues clear so that citizens can make informed
decisions while voting.
• Culture
• With an environmentally friendly mentality, everyone can help their local area become more sustainable.

4. Where can I personally make the
greatest contribution?
• Personal Actions
• I can choose to purchase sustainable products and change my actions into more sustainable ones.
• Voting
• I can choose to vote for candidates who consider environmental issues important.
• I can vote for regulations or other decisions that include an environmentally sustainable outcome.
• Social Media
• I can spread the information I know about how individuals can become more sustainable.
• I can spread the information I know about what options are more environmentally sustainable to vote for.
• Social Activism
• I can sign petitions with environmentally sustainable outcomes.
• I can attend rallies, protests, and other public events with the goal of environmental sustainability.

5. Is there a feature of social media that can
be uniquely applied to this goal?
• Spreading the News
• Social media is most useful for ensuring environmental sustainability through its ability to disseminate
information. Information on who the important environmentally sustainable people are, what
sustainability is, where local events and sustainable locations are, why environmental sustainability is
important, and how to become more environmentally sustainable can be easily spread over social media.
• Spreading information about sustainability will increase the amount of people who live with a sustainable
culture, and further everyone towards achieving the goal of sustainability.
