Reynolds Charitable Trust, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of NC Foundation, Burt’s Bees Greater Good Foundation, Appalachian Regional Commission, others Small Grants, Big Returns

Grants Made • Total 2001 – 2013: $2,463,294 • Food 2001 – 2013: $1,176,300 • Total in 2013: $278,000 • Food and health in 2013: $206,500 • Have funded farmers markets, organic food distribution center, community gardens, youth food entrepreneurship, farmworker health, farmer cooperatives, lowincome buying clubs, more Dollars Invested in Food, Gardens

Conetoe Family Life Center • Severe economic, social and health distresses • Initial grant funded 2-acre community garden • Since grown to 17+ acres • Engaging entire community, improving health • Piggly Wiggly contract, honey bee products, scholarships • RCP support: Board training, fundraising, youth grant-writing CNEF Grantee

Why Plan? • Assess where you are and develop “road map” for where you are going • Identify issues, assets, barriers and opportunities and strategies to address them • Identify resources: master gardeners, Extension, youth, seniors, in-kind contributions • Community engagement!!!! Community Garden Plans
