2. Why does it
resonate?
Environmental
sustainability is a current
issue that we as human
beings should be collectively
concerned about. Our planet
and its vital resources are
not infinite, and we owe it
to ourselves to make the
greatest possible effort to
preserve our world and its
bounty for future
generations.
3. What difference
can you make
locally?
• You can start by first having
the conversation with those in
your community that
environmental sustainability is
actually a very important topic
• Elect officials to office who
you know will campaign
against things like
deforestation and promote
efforts for better access to
clean, sustainable water
• Volunteer for community
events, recycle, and donate to
organizations such as
EarthShare Washington.
4. Where can you make the
biggest contribution?
The biggest contribution can be made on
the individual level by doing things like
making smarter choices in your food and
appliance purchases, minimizing your waste
and carbon footprint whilst supporting
sustainable efforts and organizations within
your community.
5. Using social media to promote
environmental sustainability
Social media is a great tool for promoting environmental
sustainability. Within recent years the number of people
interested in promoting a cleaner and healthier
environment has risen significantly, and many high-profile
celebrities also act as advocates for change. Social media
serves as a way to connect with like minded individuals,
stay up to date on current events surrounding the
environment, and spread awareness of the issues at hand.
There are a multitude of accounts and organizations on
various social media platforms that advocate for a more
sustainable environment such as the UN and its
Development and Environment Programme, and the World
Food Programme.
