OrgSync Connect 2012 - Development Updates

Abstract: Those institutions that have pivoted rapidly from teaching face-to face to teaching fully online have learned many lessons over the last 18 months, both good and bad. But for some, this has been nothing new, instead it’s simply been business as usual. We have seen that those who fared better have well established frameworks in place to mediate their technology-enhanced learning offerings. That is, they have recognised processes that define how they translate what they have in policy, procedures and planning into practice. Such a framework can be found within a number of quality tools, that are designed to provide institutions with clear guidelines as to what need to be in place to facilitate a robust and consistent approach to teaching with technology. Once present, it makes it easier to undertake online teaching that does more than just mimic face-to-face practice, providing a robust platform to allow innovative pedagogies to thrive. Typically, this means the online learning has, or can become far more, active, collaborative and authentic. This presentation with share some of the things that have been observed across the higher education sector over the last 18 moths that we can all learn from.Setting Up Successful Communities of Practice: An Experience Report

Abstract: Those institutions that have pivoted rapidly from teaching face-to face to teaching fully online have learned many lessons over the last 18 months, both good and bad. But for some, this has been nothing new, instead it’s simply been business as usual. We have seen that those who fared better have well established frameworks in place to mediate their technology-enhanced learning offerings. That is, they have recognised processes that define how they translate what they have in policy, procedures and planning into practice. Such a framework can be found within a number of quality tools, that are designed to provide institutions with clear guidelines as to what need to be in place to facilitate a robust and consistent approach to teaching with technology. Once present, it makes it easier to undertake online teaching that does more than just mimic face-to-face practice, providing a robust platform to allow innovative pedagogies to thrive. Typically, this means the online learning has, or can become far more, active, collaborative and authentic. This presentation with share some of the things that have been observed across the higher education sector over the last 18 moths that we can all learn from.Setting Up Successful Communities of Practice: An Experience Report

COOL – Collaborative Open Online Learning

Open Access at the Coal Face - Attitudes and Practical Responses (DARTS4)
Open Access is, arguably, one of the most disruptive changes to the scholarly communications environment since the invention of the internet. Staff in academic and research libraries have been facilitating this change and educating researchers about it since the first institutional repository was launched in 2000. But the pace of change has accelerated exponentially with the strengthening of the RCUK and Wellcome Trust mandates and the introduction of the HEFCE mandate among other funder moves in this area.
This talk will focus on the practical responses taken by the University of Warwick to cope with this change in all areas across the institution and the demands that this has placed on Library staff. It will focus on the Library perspective but also cover work done by the Research Office as well as the Graduate School and Student, Careers and Skills as part of a cross-institutional response. It will examine the practical challenges that we have faced in dealing with the new policies and some of the developments we have made to our institutional repository, WRAP (http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk) to support researchers wanting the advantages of open access. Additionally it will cover new areas of activity that have been undertaken by Library staff and offer a few of our ‘lessons learnt’ as well as a few future plans.
Finally the talk will discuss some of the early results from an institution wide survey of our researchers on their understanding of open access and attitudes to the process. This survey is an expansion of a survey that we ran in 2011 and the results will show whether or not the rapid changes and stronger funder mandates are really helping to win the hearts and minds of our researchers.

Current trends in online delivery and assessment in ANZ
Based on data form a range of ACODE Surveys over the last 12 months, and other industry data, there have been some distinct trends emerge that suggest that institutions are taking a fresh look at how they conduct teaching and assessment, longer term. Much of this has been predicated on what was necessary to deal with lock-down situations due to COVID-19, but more recently this has allowed institutions to consider the longer-term advantages in accommodating different forms of assessment, those that have traditionally fallen out of what was considered ‘normal’, most notably the ‘exam’. This shift in thinking has also extended to what institutions considering different forms of delivery of their core content, with there being a distinct shift away from what has been the mainstay for centuries, the ‘Lecture’. This shift has allowed for more authentic forms of delivery, ones based in more collaborative and active approaches. This presentation with provide a summary of some of the key data and share some examples of how some institutions are approaching the next few years, as uncertainty around the short-term future of in-person learning and teaching persists.

Bowling Green State University implemented OrgSync's Budget Management System to modernize its paper-based budgeting process for student organizations. The university previously struggled with an in-house system that became outdated. Over 340 student groups were required to manage budgets through paper submissions. OrgSync worked with the university to develop a new online system that allows groups to submit and manage budgets, funding requests, and reimbursements digitally. The Budget Management System transformed the university's processes, saving time for staff and making budget management more accessible for students.
