Malaria Is A Disease Of The Poor
Would a country free of malaria still be just as poor? Malaria is frequently referred to as a
disease of the poor. Malaria is a disease that kills millions of people in tropical areas where
malaria carrying mosquitoes swarm in the jungle (Friedlander). Malaria is caused by tiny living
things called Protozoans. When an infected mosquito bites a person, the protozoans enter the
person s blood. They live inside red blood cells as parasites. They take everything they need to live
from the cells, which kill the cells (Britannica). Malariais one of the most serious health problems
facing the world today. The World Health Organization estimates that over 300 million new cases
of malaria arise a year, with approximately two to three million deaths resulting from
Life cycle of the human malaria parasite. contraction. (Carrington).
Mainly I chose Malaria as my research topic because I love learning about parasites and their
behavior. Also I chose it because it is a common disease in Sri Lanka, which is where I come from
and also because one of my best friends died from malaria. I want to know why malaria mostly
spread in poor countries such as Africa, India, and Peru. Another reason I chose malaria as my
topic because one day I want to become a doctor and help people live in poor countries.
Before the research I knew malaria is a disease which occurs mostly in poor, tropical and
subtropical areas of the world. I also knew people get malaria by being bitten by an infective
mosquito.

Reviews on Financial Risk Management
A Review on Financial Risk Management Tianshu Hou FMRM 0811 Dec. 2011 гЂђOutlineгЂ‘ I.
Introduction II. The definition and types of financial risk III. Risk management and the theoretical
foundation IV. The process of financial risk management V. The challenges faced by the modern
financial risk management theories гЂђAbstractгЂ‘ Financial risks are exposures of uncertainties
for those participants in financial market. Financial risks can be divided into four categories:
market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk and operational risk. Risk management has become more and
more crucial for a market participant to survive in the highly competitive market. As the
development of the global financial market, there are many phenomena that... Show more content

Liquidity risk arises from situations in which a party interested in trading an asset cannot do it
because nobody in the market wants to trade that asset. Liquidity risk becomes particularly
important to parties who are about to hold or currently hold an asset, since it affects their ability to
trade. D. Operational risk. Operational risk is the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed
internal processes, people and systems, or from external events. Nowadays, the study and
management of operational risk is getting more attention. The organizations are trying to perfect
their internal control to minimize the possibility of risk. At the same time, the mature theory of
other subjects, such as operational research methods, are also introduced to the management of
operational risk. Overall, financial risk management is a process to deal with the uncertainty
resulting from financial markets. It involves assessing the financial risks facing an organization and
developing management strategies consistent with internal priorities and policies. Addressing
financial risks proactively may provide an organization with a competitive advantage. It also
ensures that management, operational staff, stockholders, and the board of directors are in
agreement on key issues. III. Risk Management and the Theoretical Foundation Financial market
participant s attitude towards risk can be basically divided into the following categories. A. Avoid

Capitalism And Capitalism In Society
The value of money continues to decrease, but the need for this little yet powerful piece of paper
continues to skyrocket. Many people believe money magically illuminates complications and
solves problems. America has been a capitalist state for decades, so money may be considered
fundamental to our survival as Americans. This may be the case for many, but I disagree. I believe
capitalismis the base for social, political and economic inequality and the idea of capitalism
deceives us into thinking we as Americans cannot function without money. Capitalism creates
complications and conceive problems. In capitalism, many private owners control the means of
production, causing the government not to regulate their businesses. Thus, allowing exploitation
to occur. The U.S will continue to collapse as long as we are a capitalist society. This system
forces us to be greedy and greed forces us to be selfish individuals. Once an individual is selfish
they will continue to make decisions that have a negative impact on the lives of many. The upper
classowns the means of production. They control and support some of the most prestigious
institutions such as; prep schools, factories, social clubs and policy formation organization. Their
wealthhas been in the family for many generations (old money) and will take several lifetimes to
spend. The upper class are the people at the top of the social ladder with great wealth and assets.
They possess endless resources, causing them to remain

A Chilling Perspective in Capote s In Cold Blood
Truman Capote s In Cold Blood is the story of Perry and Dick and the night of November 15, 1959.
This investigative, fast paced and straightforward documentary provides a commentary on the
nature of American violence and examines the details of the motiveless murders of four members
of the Clutter family and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the killers.
While reading Truman Capote s novel, In Cold Blood , I spent more than one night lying awake in
my bed, frightened by Capote s presentation of the facts surrounding the murder of an obscure
Kansas farmer and three of his family members. Several times, I caught myself wondering why this

This draws the reader closer to the men than they would, perhaps, like to be.
Capote talks about the lives of both killers previous to the murders in fairly significant detail. In the
case of Perry Smith, his parents divorced early in his childhood and neither his mother nor
father really wanted him. This produced feelings of abandonment and uselessness early on in
Perry and affected the rest of his life. Capote brings up a letter written to the Kansas State
Penitentiary about Perry by Perry s father, who was trying to have Perry paroled for a previous
crime he had committed. Perry says that this biography always set racing a series of emotions
self pity in the lead, love and hate evenly at first, the latter ultimately pulling ahead (130). Perry
didn t feel as though his father ever knew him very well, or even wanted to know him. He says,
whole sections of my Dad was ignorant of. Didn t understand an iota of...I had this great natural
musical ability. Which Dad didn t recognize. Or care about...I never got any encouragement from
him or anybody else (133). When Perry s father threw him out of the house one evening because
his father could no longer afford to have Perry live with him, Perry lost his sense of direction in
life. He even says

Planet Neptune
Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun in the Solar System. It is the fourth largest
planet by diameter and the third largest by mass. Neptune is 17 times the mass of Earth and is
somewhat more massive than its near twin Uranus, which is 15 times the mass of Earth but not as
dense.[12] On average, Neptune orbits the Sun at a distance of 30.1 AU, approximately 30 times
the Earth Sun distance. Named for the Roman god of the sea, its astronomical symbol is ♆, a
stylised version of the god Neptune s trident.
Neptune was the first planet found by mathematical prediction rather than by empirical observation.

Via James Challis, he requested extra data from Sir George Airy, the Astronomer Royal, who
supplied it in February 1844. Adams continued to work in 1845 46 and produced several different
estimates of a new planet.[25][26]
In 1845 46, Urbain Le Verrier, independently of Adams, developed his own calculations but also
experienced difficulties in stimulating any enthusiasm in his compatriots. In June 1846, upon
seeing Le Verrier s first published estimate of the planet s longitude and its similarity to Adams s
estimate, Airy persuaded Cambridge Observatorydirector James Challis to search for the planet.
Challis vainly scoured the sky throughout August and September.[24][27]
Meantime, Le Verrier by letter urged Berlin Observatory astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle to
search with the observatory s refractor. Heinrich d Arrest, a student at the observatory, suggested to
Galle that they could compare a recently drawn chart of the sky in the region of Le Verrier s

The Castro family has held power in Cuba since the 1960 s. Cuba being ruled by Fidel Castrountil

was just as pivotal to the sinister Cuban regime. Che had major effects on the abuse of a society,
Cuban politics, and the justification of evil.
While still idolized by many, Che was far from a hero or a just man. Through the annals of
history there have always been false idols who have abused power. The individuals who lead these

was a leader of the Cuban Revolution who still represents hope and anti oppression for many.
Despite his later vile and atrocious acts he is still mistakenly viewed as an icon a facade of what

The Opinion Of Henry Jenkins Essay
In the opinion of Henry Jenkins
Participatory culture shifts the focus of literacy from individual expression to community

Using this explanation, this essay underlines the matters of how the entertainment industries has
taken full control through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Furthermore, it
also typifies how such industries emphasis significantly into its logics and practices through its
audience and fan participation. Supported Research is justified by various theorists/examples. This

According to Jenkins Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide , It spectacles that
the entertainment industry has taken the advantage of harnessing New Media on traditional
formats by focussing on the logistics and practices. This evidently helps to increase the popularity
and the availability of audience participation through the use of updated technology. This is denoted
through old technological formats via applying new interactive media to heighten the participation
for numerous audiences. For instance, back in the day many industries i.e. entertainment had to
depend on broadcasting and radio for the viewers to receive their audio or visual content. To do
these industries had to send out signals globally through a large transmitter so that people can
receive their content. Transmitting these signals

Stop Up Toilet Research Paper
The primary thing ought to do when confronting a stopped up toilet is making inquiries. Do you
have any young children? Would they be able to have tossed a little toy down the toilet? Is this a
typical stop up? Has anybody dropped anything into the toilet and attempted to flush it down as
opposed to hauling it out? It is best for you to answer me now, at that point for me to squander a
large portion of a day and afterward discover what I ought to do. After all, reality saves them cash.
Apparently, you are doing this without anyone s help, so you don t need to pose these inquiries,
yet ask those in your family if require be.
In the wake of finding the solutions, I will either utilize a plunger or a toilet auger, at times called a
snake. Standard stop up I dive, everything else I wood screw.

handle part up to the extent that I can. On the off chance that the snake stall out you may need to
give it a turn while hauling out. Regularly, however, it is best to attempt and haul the auger out
without turning. In some cases, if there is for each or a toothbrush in the toilet the snake will take

Hacking Is The Responsibility Of The Computer System
The argument between two hackers who say that it is the responsibility of the owners of the
computer system to provide adequate security to keep hackers at bay are completely wrong.
Neither their argument nor their perspective holds ground. Before we look into the reasons
behind why they are wrong, it is important to first comprehend in detail about hacking and
hackers. So what is hacking? The term hacking was first promoted by the famous MIT between
1950s and 1960s. It all started as a fun experiment in a lab, but it led to something completely
different today. Hacking is a term used to describe unauthorized, illegal intrusion into a network
of connected systems or just an individual system. It is a technical effort or a process that is used
to exploit the vulnerabilities of a system or connected systems to gain unauthorized access. Today
it is synonymous with malicious activity on the web. The act of hacking is carried out by powerful
and highly skilled programmers known as hackers who possess advanced knowledge about the
systems. They do it because they are confident about their skills and succeeding in their hacking
attempts. These proficient individuals are extremely inquisitive who are in pursuit of private
information that is not publicly available. Accessing confidential or private information is just one
small part of hacking. They are capable of controlling, modifying and denying the system from any
kind of connections or cripple the system entirely bringing it

The First Triumvirate
The First Triumvirate The first triumvirate was and alliance between three prominent politicians,
Crassus, Pompey and Julius Caesar. The Roman historian Livy described the First Triumvirate as
a conspiracy against the state by its three leading citizens . The agreement was unofficial and
private. It was formed in the summer of 60 59 B.C. The first triumvirate however is a bit
misleading in name. Not only was it never called that by the contemporary Romans, but it was a
far more inclusive factio (faction) than the term triumvirate implies. How and why the first
triumvirate was created: В·Crassus and Pompey had been colleagues in the past, they shared

She had been the personal tie between Caesar and Pompey, who were by now already drifting
apart. Caesar offered Pompey another wife, his grandniece Octavis. Pompey refused, instead
choosing to marry Cornelia Metella, daughter of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Scipio, one of
Caesar s greatest enemies in 52 B.C. This emphasized Pompey s drift away from Caesar towards
the optimates. The Death of Crassus Crassus got Syria for his proconsular service in 54 B.C.
Desperate for military glory He even left his term as consul to undertake a military campaign
against the Parthians. His ambiation outran his ability. After early success his army was
completley destroyed at Carrhae by Parthian archers in 53 B.C. during which Crassus was
murdered. This left just Pompey and Caesar to rule Rome, and Carssus death created a rivalry
between the two that could not be broken. The Rivalry between Crassus and Pompey Caesar s
successes in Gaul, along with his growing power and wealth, drove Pompey. While Caesar was
fighting in Gaul, Pompey proceeded with a legislative agenda for Rome, which revealed that he
was now covertly allied with Caesar s enemies. Pompey also made it clear that Caesar would not
be permitted to stand for Consul unless he turned over control of his armies. This would, of course,
leave Caesar defenseless before his enemies. Pompey was elected consul without colleague in 52.

Essay Chaucers Canterbury Tales
Take any pilgrim whose tale we read and show Chaucer artfully matches the story to the teller.
Of the many stories he writes the tale told by the Wife of Bath is the most verbal and for its time
the most forthright exposition of the role women did not have but could have in that time period.
The wife of Bath s story is fairly general a man is accused of trying to rape a woman and the
sentence for this charge is to be hung. The mean pleads and pleads to be acquitted of his charge
so the queen of the time says he will not be hung if he finds the answer to a certain question. The
question is What is it women most desire. He is given one year and one day to find this answer

The Wife of Bath I see as being more the naГЇve, idealistic old hag. Another correlation is how sly
they both are and how they like to gossip.
I am pretty positive Chaucer meant for the Old Hag to be related to the Wife of Bath for the
different reasons I have explained. It is still odd how the character made it into Canterbury Tales but
interesting all the same; The Wife of Bath s story best describe whom she herself actually is.
Chaucer s portraits of the clergy and church related position show evidence of a religious system
full of corruption and hypocrisy. Examine in depth 2 or 3 of Chaucer s pilgrim portraits from the
prologue, illustrate or demonstrate how the medieval church was in need of reform.
The late 14th century church almost a disgrace to the meaning and reputation it was supposed to
be upholding. This was not true for all of the church as is true all of Chaucer s characters were
not exact remakes of their real life counterpart. The clergy (Monk and Prioress and Friar) and
other church related affiliates (Summoner and Pardoner) are made out to be corrupting the church.
The Friar was a member of the mendicants, who were a group that traveled from town to town
supposedly helping the poor this was however not what he did. The Summoner and pardoner were
both not qualified for the positions they held and were in a sense stealing money from those that

Mass Shootings
Over this past decade, an increase in mass shootings has raised a concern in the control of firearms.
With the ever growing number of shootings, the death rate due to firearms has intensified. Thus, the
controversy over gun control has caused society to push the government to re evaluate the
regulation of firearms in the United States. Hence, in order to keep and provide a safe environment
for American citizens without fear of death by firearm, the government should regulate firearms.
According to the Second Amendment, it states, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (Lund
and Winkler). With that said, most civilians do not possess firearms... Show more content on

The comparison between the two states show how drastically gun regulations can influence the
death rate by firearms. In the state of Wyoming, firearm sellers are not required to check gun
owner backgrounds. Therefore, gun owners are not obligated to register their guns or have a gun
license. That is to say, there is little to no gun regulations in Wyoming giving it the number one spot
in the highest gun related deaths. On the other hand, Massachusetts has the laws that regulate the
possession, sale, and use of firearms and ammunition. Once the applicant has sent in their
application for a guns permit or license, the applicant must wait 40 days in which the authorities
may deny or grant them permission to carry a firearm ( Concealed Weapons ). As stated by the
Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Massachusetts is a may issue state for the issuance of
licenses to carry firearms, meaning that the local licensing authority has discretion in determining
whether or not to issue either license type to an applicant ( Concealed Weapons ). In this case,
Massachusetts is significantly stricter than Wyoming and any other state in the country. Thus, with
its strict gun laws, it has the lowest gun related death rate and is ranked as fifty on the charts of gun
related deaths (Hendry 2015). This further justifies

Barrett Seaman, in How Bingeing Became the New College Sport , argues that binge drinking
amongst college students would decrease if the legal drinking age was brought down to 18 or 19,
instead of 21. The author explains what Pregaming is, along with the consequences that had come
forth from college students consuming too much alcohol. Seaman talks about how the drinking law
was put into place by Congress all thanks to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. In the beginning of the
article Barrett Seaman states what pregaming actually is, It usually involves sitting in a dorm room
or an off campus apartment and drinking as much hard liquor as possible before heading out for the
evening s parties. (Paragraph 2 sentence 3). The author then continues the article with the
consequences that come from Pregaming . Seaman states the following;... Show more content on

But tighter enforcement of the minimum drinking age of 21 is not the solution. It s part of the
problem. (Paragraph 3). This statement was a bit eye opening as to what side the author was

should be lowered. In my opinion the law should not be changed to a lower age but a higher one.
The reasoning behind this is that if we raise the legal drinking age to 25 or 26 let s say, then it
would be harder for the younger college students to approach someone out of college to buy them

King Lear Evil Vs Evil
Second, there is nothing wrong with being a villain if society mistreats the evil character.
Although society should be against evilness, a villain may justifiably perform evil acts if he is
not treated fairly by society. King Lear, a play that involves the theme of man versus nature, is a
perfect example of this. Edmund, one of the main evil characters in the play, must overcome the
social ridicule that comes with being a bastard. In the beginning of the play, Edmund should not
be blamed for how evil he acts since society refuses to respect his dignity. It seems that since
Edmund has no one with whom he can reveal his evil deeds, he likes to express his feelings and
plans out to the audience. As Cindy Erdin explains:

In fact, some acts seem impossible to reenact in real life because it makes the audience think
about if some villains are really life like to them. In any case, exploring the villains purpose and
development throughout stories are important as they assist the audience in understanding why
evil characters deserve to be where they end up. For this reason, villains can still have the right
motives to perform evil acts as long as they are not too observed in themselves. In specific, the
villains can only act evil towards the characters that have done something unjustifiably against
them. However, in most cases, if villains are taking their evil out on characters that never wronged
them, then they prove why evil characters never triumph in the end. In Othello and King Lear, Iago
and Edmund were fascinating characters to dissect because they are both evil in their own way.
With Iago, the audience can see that he is the greatest manipulator of mankind and he enjoys
interacting with them. Moreover, Iago is able to entertain the audience with his practical jokes but
in the end, he gets carried away with his hatred on innocent women and causes a bloodbath. On the
other hand, Edmund had a much serious conflict to deal with as he is fighting for his social rights
when it comes to being a bastard. Although he

Analysis Of The Plastic Pink Flamingos
In Jennifer Price s The Plastic Pink Flamingos: A Natural History, she gives a brief history about the
pink flamingo and its iconic meaning in America s pop culture. In addition to the meaning behind
the pink flamingo, she connects her historical context to reveal her thoughts on American culture.
In the text, Price utilizes historical allusions and extravagant diction and asks us to experience her
frustration with today s American society and asks us to consider her criticism towards America s
romanticization of materialistic things.
Throughout the passage, Price conveys her tone as ironic and sarcastic. She has pointed out her
irony when she said how it was a little ironic since Americans had hunted flamingos to extinction in
Florida in the late 1800s... To Americans, flamingos are considered to be a symbol of wealth and
prosperity since they were hunted for their plumes and meat. This shows that Americans are
hypocritical for symbolizing the flamingo in a positive light, while at the same time, they are
becoming nearly extinct due to Americans hunting them. Even in the title, it is ironic because of its
contrasting words of plastic and natural. In connection with tone, Price also uses extravagant diction
to mock the prominence of the flamingo, by using words such as pizzazz, striking, and boldness.
By doing this, it reflects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

While the military argued against the .276 caliber, Garand s .276 caliber design was recommended
for adoption on January 4, 1932.
On February 25, 1932, the Army Chief of Staff, General Douglas MacArthur, put an end to the
caliber issue, stating quot;this change will introduce an element of chaos, confusion and
uncertainty which, when magnified under war conditions, would more than counteract the
beneficial effect of any semi automatic rifle. quot; With this statement, MacArthur ordered the
development of a .30 caliber rifle. This did not delay Garand s work because he had already
developed a design to fire the .30 caliber on his own time in anticipation of such an event. Two
more years would pass before the rifle was adopted as the United States Rifle, M1 on January 9,
1936. The United States became the first country in history to adopt a semi automatic rifle as its
standard military rifle after this event. Problems beset the M1 as it was first being issued. They
occurred in the area where expanding gases of the fired bullets were tapped from the barrel to
operate the rifle and the rifle suffered stoppages after firing only seven of the eight rounds in its clip.
The M1 s early performance problems gave it such a bad reputation that after the 1939 National
Matches, the National Rifle Association was able to get Congress to look at the problem. A major
redesign was ordered on October 26, 1939 and Garand redesigned the rifle to operate with gases

The Remarkable Story Of Henrietta Lacks
The remarkable story of Henrietta Lacks was just the beginning of successful cell culture: a
process by which cells are grown in a laboratory under controlled conditions. Prior to this,
researchers had attempted to cultivate human tissue in the lab, but failed. Through the pain and
anguish the Lacks family experienced, a new era in the scientific world was born. As a black
woman in the fifties, she had the least resources available to her in terms of medical care. When
she got sick, there was only one hospital that admitted black people, and she was kept in a separate
colored ward. Due to the fact that cell culturehad never been successful, there were gaps in the
knowledge of cancer treatment. Therefore, while the doctors thought they were curing her, they
actually were killing her. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, aside from the horrific death of
Henrietta and the mistreatment of her family after the fact, hones in on the relationship between
Rebecca Skloot, the author, and Henrietta s daughter, Deborah. They have their ups and downs, but
nearing the end of their journey there is familiarity between the two and a steadiness that resembles
mother and daughter. Skloot explores every aspect of the Lacks family and includes the sadness
and hopefulness expressed by all. She also writes copiously about the scientific significance of
Henrietta and her particular situation.
When Henrietta Lacks was admitted into John Hopkins Hospital, she was already consumed by a

Compare And Contrast Young Goodman Brown And The Man In...
Within Nathaniel Hawthorne and Stephen King s short stories Young Goodman Brown and The
Man in the Black Suit , readers follow two protagonists as they have a encounter with the devil.
The devil is presented differently with each of the novels through elements such as appearance,
goals and language. Both protagonists, each who is quite innocent, is affected by these features
in some way. The first element that readers may notice when analyzing each novel is that the
devil within both stories has a unstated yet clear goal, to change the protagonists view and
beliefs in a negative way. He, however does not accomplish this goal within both of the stories.
The devil in Hawthorne s very much so accomplishes his. The protagonist within the story,
Goodman Brown, was forever changed after his encounter with the devil. He became quite bitter
and he no longer saw the good within the people of his community. When walking into his town
the following morning after his encounter with the devil, Goodman acts quite odd. When the
minister attempts to bestow a blessing upon Goodman; Goodman revolts back from the minister
as if to avoid an anathema (Hawthorne 8). Also, when noticing that his fiance saw him and was
skipping over to give him a kiss, Goodman looked sternly and sadly into her face and passed on
without a greeting (Hawthorne 9). The devil ruins Goodmans view of people and the world, thus
accomplishing his goal. Unlike Hawthorne s, the devil in Kings story doesn t achieve

Freedom Of Religious Freedom
Freedom of religion When we say freedom of religion what is that exactly means? The First
Amendment describe the right of religion like this, everyone in the United States can practice to

there is no an official religion and the government do not give any support for any religion
institution because of the government want to encourage and promoting religion in any ways. In
addition to that, nobody can penalize any citizen because of their religious beliefs. It s always best

Unknown Organic Compounds
Organic Compounds contain Carbon, a versatile bonding element due to its ability to form four
stable bonds. They can be separated from mixtures and identified through Thin Layer
Chromatography (TLC). TLC is a simple, and rapid analytical technique that provides qualitative
information about a sample. It is based on the principle that different compounds will have different
attractions to the stationary and mobile phases. Typically, already characterized compounds can be
identified chemically. This allows scientists to determine if compounds have desirable structures,
and if reaction conditions of unwanted products can be altered. However, with complex compounds
that were never characterized, this process is insufficient. Instead, IR Spectroscopy is used. It
measures the vibrations of bonds, producing a spectrum of the different energies absorbed by the
molecule. By comparing the energies with standard correlation values, the identity of an unknown
compound can be determined. In this experiment, the identity of an unknown organic compound
will be determined using these methods. Procedure:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solution was placed into a separation funnel, in which the top and bottom layers were slowly
filtered out into two different beakers. The bottom layer solution was heated until the ethyl acetate
evaporated and only the organic compound remained. Next, a TLC technique was prepared
employing silica gel as the stationary phase and 1:1 ethyl acetate hexane as the mobile phase. In
order to develop a standard, a TLC plate was spotted with benzoic acid (BA), benzophenone (BZ),
biphenyl (BI), and a mixture off the three. After incubating the plate in the chamber with the mobile
phase, it was analyzed under a UV light. Then, the Rf values for the known compounds were

Donald Trump Rhetorical Analysis
According to Pew Research Center, only 20% of Americans trust the government. This decline has
occurred since the 1960s. The percentage of trust proves the beliefs of unequal representation in
American citizens. Firstly, the voter turnout in last year s election denotes this analysis. Secondly,
voters in last year s election felt voting for either candidate did not matter; for their opinions

John Keats s Poem, Ode On A Grecian Urn, And The Eve Of...
Keats covered many topics in the poems he wrote during his short life but the theme of fantasy
being a better alternative to reality was prominent throughout many of his works. To Keats the
idea that, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12) play a major role
in his poetry, demonstrating that for him the idea of what is yet to come is far better than the
actual reality of the situation. Through the narratives and stories he tells in his poems, Ode on a
Grecian Urn, Ode to a Nightingale, and The Eve of St. Agnes, it is made evident that Keats would
rather live in the fantasy realm of his own mind than in reality. In his poem Odeon a Grecian Urn,
the fantasy that Keats feels is better than reality is displayed in the scenes decorating the urn,
pictures forever frozen in time. At the beginning of stanza two Keats writes, Heard melodies are
sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12). In these lines Keats is saying that the
anticipation of an event or experience is far better than the actual experience itself, or rather that
the reality of a situation can never truly live up to the ideal that one has had in one s mind. To
Keats, the scenes displayed on the urn are so beautiful that he not only admires the artwork, he
envies those on the urn because they will forever get to display the scenes of Happy happy
boughs (Urn 21) and, unlike he, will never have to bid the spring adieu (Urn 22). To him the urn

Child Custody Mediation Essay
The Steps in the Process of Child Custody Mediation
When marriages come to an end, children tend to be the most affected parties. Each parent wants
to be part of their children s lives just as before. This is why Child Custody Mediation is more
beneficial than custody battles in the courts. Mediation allows both parents to amicably come to a
parenting plan that allows them to actively be involved in their children s lives. This process also
has other advantages like time saving, cost saving, less stress, and more importantly, the process
keeps the family more united compared to court proceedings. These are the steps in the mediation
process:

solution to the issues discussed before. The mediator will negotiate the solutions and both parents

best interest of the children, not their own.

After finding solutions to the contested issues, the mediator will draft the custody agreement. Make

Dated INCOME INEQUALITY AND ITS EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
INTRODUCTION
Income inequality and its effect on environment have been highlighted by a number of authors. The
previous paper in this regard highlighted general and government specific aspects of the two
determinants of environment, environment degradation and health. The aim of this paper is to
highlight the environmental emergency that emerges due income inequality. The two aspects to be
studied under this emergency would be increasing environmental deterioration through pollution
and the relationship of income inequality with mortality. The basic theme of this paper is
sustainability and how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Beaglehole and Bonita, mortality refers to the rate of death in the society. Since the
theme of this paper is sustainability, the focus is on mortality aspect of health in terms of variable
household incomes. This implicates the severe consequences that may emerge as a result from lack
of governmental focus on equal distribution of wealth in a society. A number of previous researches
were considered in this regard to highlight the most vulnerable segments within the purr segment
that reflect low mortality rates. The gist of this aspect lies in the relationship between income and
mortality rates that result from inequitable resource allocation and income distribution (Beaglehole
and Bonita, 1997).
INCOME INEQUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION According to Laurent,
democracy is aspired and sought by many countries however, environmental equality is not
considered as one of the core reasons for it. Isolating the rich and the poor segments reveals that
environmental consideration by the upper segments has a trickledown effect on the middle class.
According to Indira Gandhi at an environmental summit in 1972, poverty should be regarded as the
biggest pollutants. This is because social emergency leads to use of resources for pressing issues
like catering to the growing needs of the people instead of focusing on sustainability or preservation

What Are The Parasites Of Atlas Shrugged
The Parasites of Atlas Shrugged
In this world, and in the world of Ayn Rand s imagination, there are two kinds of people: those
who live to create, and those who wish to live as parasites feeding off the benefits of those
creations. In Atlas Shrugged, she explores what might happen when the creators of the world
stop creating; the parasites are left to try to live on their own. The novels that Miss Rand writes
always reflect this sort of thing. She writes of the battle between the two types of people as some
write of the battles between good and evil. In reality, each side of the battle can be equated in such
terms. These writings provide a detailed analysis of the two forces, and leave the reader with a
profound sense of vitality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had himself convinced that he was doing the world a favor by holding back his sister, Dagny,
an idealistic Objectivist. Other demonstrations of this ludicrous practice are displayed in the
characters of the family of Hank Rearden, a successful and very driven steel manufacturer. His
own mother, an advocate of such practices as indiscriminate charity and pity, informed him of his
supposed social responsibility. She firmly believed that it was the duty of every man to give to
every other man. Virtue is the giving of the undeserved, she said (265). These second handers
are the villains of the novel, the only enemies of the true genius. The looters are those who sit
back, allowing others to do the work for them, so that they may simply return it with accusations
concerning a lack of virtue and social concern. They believe that goodness arises from living on
one s knees, begging forgiveness for a transgression that should not be considered wrong: success,
greatness. Jim Taggart repeatedly says things such as, Why does he think he s better than the rest
of us he and that sister of mine, (899) in reference to people such as Hank Rearden, and of course,
to Dagny. The only cause for these statements, and this fear of greatness, is the evasion of the
lacking of it in his own character. The looters attempt to steal that which they could never be able to

Compare And Contrast Little Red Riding Hood And The...
The Company of Wolves , by Angela Carter, is an evolved form of the typical children s story
Little Red Riding Hood . There are many differences in Carter version then the older stories, but
at the same time they are very similar. All of the stories are about a little girl with a red cape
going to her grandmother s house, who lives in the middle of the woods. As she is walking to her
grandmother s house, she encounters a hungry wolf. She tells the wolf where she is going, then the
wolf goes ahead of her, eats the grandmother and then eats Little red. Some of the differences in the
Carter s story is the wolf, Little Red herself, the compass and when she sleeps with the lycanthrope.

The Prevelence of Corruption in Various Facets of Today s...
Corruption refers to the use of public goods or power for the benefit of an individual or a group of
people. Referring to what the definition says, a corruption situation could occur in an organization
that is actively handling money, and the people who are responsible of managing it within the
institution take advantage of it for personal purposes. Corruptionis a problem that occurs worldwide
but it is more common in some countries than in others. It is more likely to happen in poorer
countries.
Regarding Global Infrastructure Anti Corruption Centre, corruption most of the times happen
because some people are willing to use illegal ways to increase individual or corporate profit. For
being a corrupt person, the actions have to be done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the administration department there are some people whose interests go beyond the
interest of the organization and want to make a profit from the money they receive. There are three
possible ways of corruption within this department. First of all, the corrupt people can take the
money away directly from the budget of the organization. However, they could get caught easily in
this situation because when the others departments take a look at the funds statement, they will
realize that some money is missing.
Secondly, they could negotiate with some of the companies that offer services to the organization.
For example, if there is an event and a certain company is supposed to rent the audio system,
which cost $3000 there could be a negotiation between the corrupt people in our organization and
the people from the company which offers the service so they inflate the cost from $3000 to $6000
and then divide the surplus of $3000 in exact parts between the two parties.
Besides, the third way of corruption could arise in the creation of companies by the members of
the administration department. In this case they will be the owners of the companies that offer
services to the organization. The problem that could happen here is that they are going to have the
power to control the bills so if certain service cost $1000 in the market, they can easily charge the
same service for more money. Since they handle

Soybean is the third largest oilseed crop in India next to Groundnut Mustard and accounts for 25%
of the total oilseeds produced in the country in a year. Soya oil contributes about 10% of total
vegetable oils produced in the country. Groundnut is the most widely consumed and traded edible
oil determining edible oil economics. India is the world s second largest
producer of groundnut, next only to China. But groundnut being primarily a Kharif (monsoon)
crop is vulnerable to vagaries of monsoon and also speculative activities. In 1996, the Government
set up a Technology Mission on oil seeds, to increase production of other oil seeds and oil, and to
reduce dependence on imports. The strategy followed was: пѓ To increase productivity with better
farm inputs and practices. пѓ To increase area under oilseed crop. пѓ To encourage winter (Rabi)
oilseed crops. This led to a sharp increase in oilseed production driven mainly by rapeseed,
sunflower, castor seed and Soya Oil seed production jumped from 6.1mn ton in the mid 80 s to
around 22mn ton currently. India is today world s third largest producer of rapeseed and
cottonseed and the largest producer of castor seed. Timely and adequate rain is expected to result
in an all time high oilseed production of 142.4 lakh tonnes during the current year as compared

Analysis Of The Book Between The World And Me Essay
Monica Quilatan Professor Writing 37 ICS 249 9:00 to 10:50 26 October 2015 The US is
appealing in the eyes of other countries, and even ourselves, because of the free and equal
characteristics we claim ourselves to have, such as: freedom of religion, freedom to own private
property, and freedom of equal justice. However, in the eyes of an African America, Atlantic
Monthly Journalist, we see that all of these freedoms find a loophole when it comes to the black
community. In Ta Nehisi Coates book Between the World and Me, he writes from a political, yet
deeply personal standpoint to analyze today s version of racism. Coates strays away from his
usual journalist works to a more deeper and personal view. His book is devoted to his fifteen
year old son, Samori, and provides him with guidance through the struggle of racism; all while
letting Samori fend for himself. Coates lets his son know all this through history, and heritage; of
his own and of America s. Ta Nehisi Coates is a journalist, blogger, and memoirist incorporates
historical comprehension to exhibit America s most disputed issues, especially racism. His work
has been published in local and national papers, including: Village Voice, Washington City Paper,
Washington Post, New York Times Magazine, Time Magazine, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic,
where he is currently a national correspondent. The Atlantic is a literary, cultural, and political
editorial magazine. It targets a national audience as well as

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Global Funding Institutions
Global funding institutions such the World Bank and the IMF play a significant role in the
economic and business enhancement of developing countries. These organizations provide funds to
assist developmental programs and projects in developing and already developed countries. The
World Bank, along with IMF funds vital and fundamental projects in crucial areas. They funds
things like free education, subsidized health care through insurance covers and provide relief for
these nations in times of great economic crisis (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). However,
researchers have listed a lot of disadvantages associated with these two international funding
institutions.
According to Tulchinsky and Varavikova (2009), there is a lot of evidence to be viewed as
important examples of the effects of the World Bankand the IMF Funding on economic areas.
Studies have shown that IMF has established a corrupt system implying neocolonialism that seeks
to expose the developing nations for the benefit of the rich developed countries. The IMF has
placed the economy in a state of environmental destruction. The developed countries account for the
highest amount of harmful and toxic environmental emissions (Lee, 2005). China, United States,
Canada and Japan being part of the developed nations stand a better chance of economic survival
and proliferation due to the lenient policies favoring its existence.
Birdsall, Vaishnav, and CGD, 2006) states that these emissions contribute to global warming

Woodrow Wilson and The Presidency
From the beginning of the 1912 election, the people could sense the new ideas of Woodrow
Wilson would move them in the right direction. Wilson s idea of New Freedom would almost
guarantee his presidential victory in 1912. In contrast to Wilson s New Freedom, Roosevelt s New
Nationalism called for the continued consolidation of trusts and labor unions, paralleled by the
growth of powerful regulatory agencies. Roosevelt s ideas were founded in the Herbert
Croly s novel, The Promise Of American Life written in 1910. Although both
Wilson and Roosevelt favored a more active government role in economic and social affairs, Wilson

The new Federal Reserve
Board, appointed by the president, oversaw a nationwide system of twelve regional re served
districts, each with its own central bank. The final authority over these banks was granted to the
Federal Reserve Board, which guaranteed a substantial measure of public control. The board was
also empowered to issue paper money called quot;Federal Reserve Notes. quot; The amount of
money in circulation could be swiftly increased as needed for the legitimate requirements of
business.
In 1914, Woodrow Wilsontried to tame the trusts. Again making a personal ap pearance to address
Congress with his propositions helped dramatize the situation and sway the support towards his
ideas. Congress responded with the Federal Trade Commis sion Act of 1914. The new law
empowered a presidentially appointed commission to toughen regulations on interstate commerce.
This was supposed to crush monopolies by wiping out unfair trade policies. Next came the Clayton
Anti Trust Act of 1914, which was meant to further strangle the major monopolies. It lengthened
the list of business practices deemed objectionable in the Sherman Act. Now, price discrimination
and inter locking directorates were gravely forbidden.
Wilson had caught the attention of the public by conquering the quot;triple wall of privilege. quot;

U.s. And Global Economy
In 2008 the U.S. and global economy confronted one of the worst crisis in the history. These
financial crisis were considered the worst since the great depression in 1930 s. Several events
took a place early in 2007 which led to the economy crash, such as, the massive decrease in home
prices in the United States after it was significantly high. This decline in home mortgagemarket
expanded rapidly causing massive crisis in the whole United States financial sector (Bullard,
Neely, and Wheelock 2 4). Those crisis had dangerous effects on the stock banking industry,
insurance firms, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two most important enterprises
commissioned by the government to assist mortgage lending, and some other mortgage lenders
and financial service organizations. Those crisis generated a decline in banks and financial
associations trust of others, believing that they will never get paid back. They simply stopped
offering loans to people who needed money to buy a house or start a business, which created a
massive decline in the home mortgage market and the whole financial sector of the United States
(Havemann 1) There are number of issues which are believed to be the reason behind the home
mortgage market crisis that occurred in 2008. Firstly the housing bubble , the home mortgage
market problem which our economy is suffering from right now. It started with the bursting of the
U.S. housing bubble which started in 2001 and reached its highest in 2005. The

Judith With The Head Of Holofernes
As artistic movements sweep certain time periods, location is an important factor in the
development of an artist s vision. While Europe is a compact continent, it s artistic productions can
be largely influenced by the country of origin. This can be seen in multiple artistic movements such
as the Renaissance where works from Italyand England while largely influenced by the same
artistic goals produce works with stylistic differences. Baroquestyle art was also subject to these
geographical differences influencing the vision of the artist. Understanding the complex layers of
an artistic movement requires one to analysis works of art and how they compare to other pieces
produced during the same time. By taking two works with the same subject matter, one can
effectively dissect the influences that time and place have had on the artist s execution. In 1530
Germany, Lucas Cranach the Elderproduced a painting titled Judith with the Head of Holofernes
depicting the biblical heroine Judith with the severed head of Holofernes. A little more than a
hundred years later in 1640 Italy, Massimo Stanzione created a similar representation of this story
in his work, Judith with the Head of Holofernes. Both artist took the same biblical story but
produced two individual works invoking different effects one through Baroque style and the other a
Renaissance interpuation.
The heroine of this story is Judith, a Jewish girl who slayed the Assyrian general, Holofernes,
before he could

  • 2. Malaria Is A Disease Of The Poor Would a country free of malaria still be just as poor? Malaria is frequently referred to as a disease of the poor. Malaria is a disease that kills millions of people in tropical areas where malaria carrying mosquitoes swarm in the jungle (Friedlander). Malaria is caused by tiny living things called Protozoans. When an infected mosquito bites a person, the protozoans enter the person s blood. They live inside red blood cells as parasites. They take everything they need to live from the cells, which kill the cells (Britannica). Malariais one of the most serious health problems facing the world today. The World Health Organization estimates that over 300 million new cases of malaria arise a year, with approximately two to three million deaths resulting from Life cycle of the human malaria parasite. contraction. (Carrington). Mainly I chose Malaria as my research topic because I love learning about parasites and their behavior. Also I chose it because it is a common disease in Sri Lanka, which is where I come from and also because one of my best friends died from malaria. I want to know why malaria mostly spread in poor countries such as Africa, India, and Peru. Another reason I chose malaria as my topic because one day I want to become a doctor and help people live in poor countries. Before the research I knew malaria is a disease which occurs mostly in poor, tropical and subtropical areas of the world. I also knew people get malaria by being bitten by an infective mosquito. ... Liquidity risk becomes particularly important to parties who are about to hold or currently hold an asset, since it affects their ability to trade. D. Operational risk. Operational risk is the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people and systems, or from external events. At the same time, the mature theory of other subjects, such as operational research methods, are also introduced to the management of operational risk. Overall, financial risk management is a process to deal with the uncertainty resulting from financial markets. • 4. Capitalism And Capitalism In Society The value of money continues to decrease, but the need for this little yet powerful piece of paper continues to skyrocket. Many people believe money magically illuminates complications and solves problems. America has been a capitalist state for decades, so money may be considered fundamental to our survival as Americans. This may be the case for many, but I disagree. I believe capitalismis the base for social, political and economic inequality and the idea of capitalism deceives us into thinking we as Americans cannot function without money. Capitalism creates complications and conceive problems. In capitalism, many private owners control the means of production, causing the government not to regulate their businesses. Thus, allowing exploitation to occur. The U.S will continue to collapse as long as we are a capitalist society. This system forces us to be greedy and greed forces us to be selfish individuals. Once an individual is selfish they will continue to make decisions that have a negative impact on the lives of many. The upper classowns the means of production. They control and support some of the most prestigious institutions such as; prep schools, factories, social clubs and policy formation organization. Their wealthhas been in the family for many generations (old money) and will take several lifetimes to spend. The upper class are the people at the top of the social ladder with great wealth and assets. They possess endless resources, causing them to remain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Chilling Perspective in Capote s In Cold Blood Truman Capote s In Cold Blood is the story of Perry and Dick and the night of November 15, 1959. This investigative, fast paced and straightforward documentary provides a commentary on the nature of American violence and examines the details of the motiveless murders of four members of the Clutter family and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the killers. While reading Truman Capote s novel, In Cold Blood , I spent more than one night lying awake in my bed, frightened by Capote s presentation of the facts surrounding the murder of an obscure Kansas farmer and three of his family members. Several times, I caught myself wondering why this book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This draws the reader closer to the men than they would, perhaps, like to be. Capote talks about the lives of both killers previous to the murders in fairly significant detail. In the case of Perry Smith, his parents divorced early in his childhood and neither his mother nor father really wanted him. This produced feelings of abandonment and uselessness early on in Perry and affected the rest of his life. Capote brings up a letter written to the Kansas State Penitentiary about Perry by Perry s father, who was trying to have Perry paroled for a previous crime he had committed. Perry says that this biography always set racing a series of emotions self pity in the lead, love and hate evenly at first, the latter ultimately pulling ahead (130). Hacking Is The Responsibility Of The Computer System The argument between two hackers who say that it is the responsibility of the owners of the computer system to provide adequate security to keep hackers at bay are completely wrong. Neither their argument nor their perspective holds ground. Before we look into the reasons behind why they are wrong, it is important to first comprehend in detail about hacking and hackers. So what is hacking? The term hacking was first promoted by the famous MIT between 1950s and 1960s. It all started as a fun experiment in a lab, but it led to something completely different today. Hacking is a term used to describe unauthorized, illegal intrusion into a network of connected systems or just an individual system. It is a technical effort or a process that is used to exploit the vulnerabilities of a system or connected systems to gain unauthorized access. Today it is synonymous with malicious activity on the web. The act of hacking is carried out by powerful and highly skilled programmers known as hackers who possess advanced knowledge about the systems. They do it because they are confident about their skills and succeeding in their hacking attempts. The Roman historian Livy described the First Triumvirate as a conspiracy against the state by its three leading citizens . The agreement was unofficial and private. It was formed in the summer of 60 59 B.C. The first triumvirate however is a bit misleading in name. Not only was it never called that by the contemporary Romans, but it was a far more inclusive factio (faction) than the term triumvirate implies. Pompey refused, instead choosing to marry Cornelia Metella, daughter of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Scipio, one of Caesar s greatest enemies in 52 B.C. This emphasized Pompey s drift away from Caesar towards the optimates. The Death of Crassus Crassus got Syria for his proconsular service in 54 B.C. Desperate for military glory He even left his term as consul to undertake a military campaign against the Parthians. His ambiation outran his ability. After early success his army was completley destroyed at Carrhae by Parthian archers in 53 B.C. during which Crassus was murdered. This left just Pompey and Caesar to rule Rome, and Carssus death created a rivalry between the two that could not be broken. The Rivalry between Crassus and Pompey Caesar s successes in Gaul, along with his growing power and wealth, drove Pompey. While Caesar was fighting in Gaul, Pompey proceeded with a legislative agenda for Rome, which revealed that he was now covertly allied with Caesar s enemies. With the ever growing number of shootings, the death rate due to firearms has intensified. Thus, the controversy over gun control has caused society to push the government to re evaluate the regulation of firearms in the United States. Hence, in order to keep and provide a safe environment for American citizens without fear of death by firearm, the government should regulate firearms. In the state of Wyoming, firearm sellers are not required to check gun owner backgrounds. Therefore, gun owners are not obligated to register their guns or have a gun license. That is to say, there is little to no gun regulations in Wyoming giving it the number one spot in the highest gun related deaths. On the other hand, Massachusetts has the laws that regulate the possession, sale, and use of firearms and ammunition. Once the applicant has sent in their application for a guns permit or license, the applicant must wait 40 days in which the authorities may deny or grant them permission to carry a firearm ( Concealed Weapons ). As stated by the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Massachusetts is a may issue state for the issuance of licenses to carry firearms, meaning that the local licensing authority has discretion in determining whether or not to issue either license type to an applicant ( Concealed Weapons ). Although society should be against evilness, a villain may justifiably perform evil acts if he is not treated fairly by society. King Lear, a play that involves the theme of man versus nature, is a perfect example of this. Edmund, one of the main evil characters in the play, must overcome the social ridicule that comes with being a bastard. In the beginning of the play, Edmund should not be blamed for how evil he acts since society refuses to respect his dignity. It seems that since Edmund has no one with whom he can reveal his evil deeds, he likes to express his feelings and plans out to the audience. As Cindy Erdin explains: [Villains] use soliloquies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, some acts seem impossible to reenact in real life because it makes the audience think about if some villains are really life like to them. In any case, exploring the villains purpose and development throughout stories are important as they assist the audience in understanding why evil characters deserve to be where they end up. For this reason, villains can still have the right motives to perform evil acts as long as they are not too observed in themselves. In specific, the villains can only act evil towards the characters that have done something unjustifiably against them. However, in most cases, if villains are taking their evil out on characters that never wronged them, then they prove why evil characters never triumph in the end. In Othello and King Lear, Iago and Edmund were fascinating characters to dissect because they are both evil in their own way. With Iago, the audience can see that he is the greatest manipulator of mankind and he enjoys interacting with them. Moreover, Iago is able to entertain the audience with his practical jokes but in the end, he gets carried away with his hatred on innocent women and causes a bloodbath. In the text, Price utilizes historical allusions and extravagant diction and asks us to experience her frustration with today s American society and asks us to consider her criticism towards America s romanticization of materialistic things. Throughout the passage, Price conveys her tone as ironic and sarcastic. She has pointed out her irony when she said how it was a little ironic since Americans had hunted flamingos to extinction in Florida in the late 1800s... To Americans, flamingos are considered to be a symbol of wealth and prosperity since they were hunted for their plumes and meat. This shows that Americans are hypocritical for symbolizing the flamingo in a positive light, while at the same time, they are becoming nearly extinct due to Americans hunting them. Even in the title, it is ironic because of its contrasting words of plastic and natural. In connection with tone, Price also uses extravagant diction to mock the prominence of the flamingo, by using words such as pizzazz, striking, and boldness. By doing this, it reflects ... Every morning before our drive to our respective offices, Frank brought me a slice of toast buttered on both sides for breakfast. I d adjust his tie once he placed himself in the driver s seat. This did not delay Garand s work because he had already developed a design to fire the .30 caliber on his own time in anticipation of such an event. Two more years would pass before the rifle was adopted as the United States Rifle, M1 on January 9, 1936. The United States became the first country in history to adopt a semi automatic rifle as its standard military rifle after this event. Problems beset the M1 as it was first being issued. They occurred in the area where expanding gases of the fired bullets were tapped from the barrel to operate the rifle and the rifle suffered stoppages after firing only seven of the eight rounds in its clip. The M1 s early performance problems gave it such a bad reputation that after the 1939 National Matches, the National Rifle Association was able to get Congress to look at the problem. The Remarkable Story Of Henrietta Lacks The remarkable story of Henrietta Lacks was just the beginning of successful cell culture: a process by which cells are grown in a laboratory under controlled conditions. Prior to this, researchers had attempted to cultivate human tissue in the lab, but failed. Through the pain and anguish the Lacks family experienced, a new era in the scientific world was born. As a black woman in the fifties, she had the least resources available to her in terms of medical care. When she got sick, there was only one hospital that admitted black people, and she was kept in a separate colored ward. Due to the fact that cell culturehad never been successful, there were gaps in the knowledge of cancer treatment. Therefore, while the doctors thought they were curing her, they actually were killing her. • 24. Compare And Contrast Young Goodman Brown And The Man In... Within Nathaniel Hawthorne and Stephen King s short stories Young Goodman Brown and The Man in the Black Suit , readers follow two protagonists as they have a encounter with the devil. The devil is presented differently with each of the novels through elements such as appearance, goals and language. Both protagonists, each who is quite innocent, is affected by these features in some way. The first element that readers may notice when analyzing each novel is that the devil within both stories has a unstated yet clear goal, to change the protagonists view and beliefs in a negative way. He, however does not accomplish this goal within both of the stories. The devil in Hawthorne s very much so accomplishes his. The protagonist within the story, Goodman Brown, was forever changed after his encounter with the devil. He became quite bitter and he no longer saw the good within the people of his community. When walking into his town the following morning after his encounter with the devil, Goodman acts quite odd. When the minister attempts to bestow a blessing upon Goodman; Goodman revolts back from the minister as if to avoid an anathema (Hawthorne 8). Also, when noticing that his fiance saw him and was skipping over to give him a kiss, Goodman looked sternly and sadly into her face and passed on without a greeting (Hawthorne 9). They can be separated from mixtures and identified through Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). TLC is a simple, and rapid analytical technique that provides qualitative information about a sample. It is based on the principle that different compounds will have different attractions to the stationary and mobile phases. Typically, already characterized compounds can be identified chemically. This allows scientists to determine if compounds have desirable structures, and if reaction conditions of unwanted products can be altered. However, with complex compounds that were never characterized, this process is insufficient. Instead, IR Spectroscopy is used. It measures the vibrations of bonds, producing a spectrum of the different energies absorbed by the molecule. By comparing the energies with standard correlation values, the identity of an unknown compound can be determined. Keats covered many topics in the poems he wrote during his short life but the theme of fantasy being a better alternative to reality was prominent throughout many of his works. To Keats the idea that, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12) play a major role in his poetry, demonstrating that for him the idea of what is yet to come is far better than the actual reality of the situation. Through the narratives and stories he tells in his poems, Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to a Nightingale, and The Eve of St. Agnes, it is made evident that Keats would rather live in the fantasy realm of his own mind than in reality. In his poem Odeon a Grecian Urn, the fantasy that Keats feels is better than reality is displayed in the scenes decorating the urn, pictures forever frozen in time. At the beginning of stanza two Keats writes, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12). In these lines Keats is saying that the anticipation of an event or experience is far better than the actual experience itself, or rather that the reality of a situation can never truly live up to the ideal that one has had in one s mind. Income Inequality And Its Effect On The Environment INCOME INEQUALITY AND ITS EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT III Student s Name Course Dated INCOME INEQUALITY AND ITS EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT INTRODUCTION Income inequality and its effect on environment have been highlighted by a number of authors. The previous paper in this regard highlighted general and government specific aspects of the two determinants of environment, environment degradation and health. The aim of this paper is to highlight the environmental emergency that emerges due income inequality. The two aspects to be studied under this emergency would be increasing environmental deterioration through pollution and the relationship of income inequality with mortality. The basic theme of this paper is sustainability and how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Beaglehole and Bonita, mortality refers to the rate of death in the society. Since the theme of this paper is sustainability, the focus is on mortality aspect of health in terms of variable household incomes. This implicates the severe consequences that may emerge as a result from lack of governmental focus on equal distribution of wealth in a society. A number of previous researches were considered in this regard to highlight the most vulnerable segments within the purr segment that reflect low mortality rates. The gist of this aspect lies in the relationship between income and mortality rates that result from inequitable resource allocation and income distribution (Beaglehole and Bonita, 1997). INCOME INEQUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION According to Laurent, democracy is aspired and sought by many countries however, environmental equality is not considered as one of the core reasons for it. Isolating the rich and the poor segments reveals that environmental consideration by the upper segments has a trickledown effect on the middle class. According to Indira Gandhi at an environmental summit in 1972, poverty should be regarded as the biggest pollutants. This is because social emergency leads to use of resources for pressing issues like catering to the growing needs of the people instead of focusing on sustainability or preservation of the environment. ... What Are The Parasites Of Atlas Shrugged The Parasites of Atlas Shrugged In this world, and in the world of Ayn Rand s imagination, there are two kinds of people: those who live to create, and those who wish to live as parasites feeding off the benefits of those creations. In Atlas Shrugged, she explores what might happen when the creators of the world stop creating; the parasites are left to try to live on their own. The novels that Miss Rand writes always reflect this sort of thing. She writes of the battle between the two types of people as some write of the battles between good and evil. In reality, each side of the battle can be equated in such terms. These writings provide a detailed analysis of the two forces, and leave the reader with a profound sense of vitality ... Other demonstrations of this ludicrous practice are displayed in the characters of the family of Hank Rearden, a successful and very driven steel manufacturer. His own mother, an advocate of such practices as indiscriminate charity and pity, informed him of his supposed social responsibility. She firmly believed that it was the duty of every man to give to every other man. Virtue is the giving of the undeserved, she said (265). These second handers are the villains of the novel, the only enemies of the true genius. The looters are those who sit back, allowing others to do the work for them, so that they may simply return it with accusations concerning a lack of virtue and social concern. They believe that goodness arises from living on one s knees, begging forgiveness for a transgression that should not be considered wrong: success, greatness. Jim Taggart repeatedly says things such as, Why does he think he s better than the rest of us he and that sister of mine, (899) in reference to people such as Hank Rearden, and of course, to Dagny. However, in the administration department there are some people whose interests go beyond the interest of the organization and want to make a profit from the money they receive. There are three possible ways of corruption within this department. First of all, the corrupt people can take the money away directly from the budget of the organization. However, they could get caught easily in this situation because when the others departments take a look at the funds statement, they will realize that some money is missing. Secondly, they could negotiate with some of the companies that offer services to the organization. For example, if there is an event and a certain company is supposed to rent the audio system, which cost $3000 there could be a negotiation between the corrupt people in our organization and the people from the company which offers the service so they inflate the cost from $3000 to $6000 and then divide the surplus of $3000 in exact parts between the two parties. Besides, the third way of corruption could arise in the creation of companies by the members of the administration department. In this case they will be the owners of the companies that offer services to the organization. The problem that could happen here is that they are going to have the power to control the bills so if certain service cost $1000 in the market, they can easily charge the same service for more money. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Global Funding Institutions Global funding institutions such the World Bank and the IMF play a significant role in the economic and business enhancement of developing countries. These organizations provide funds to assist developmental programs and projects in developing and already developed countries. The World Bank, along with IMF funds vital and fundamental projects in crucial areas. They funds things like free education, subsidized health care through insurance covers and provide relief for these nations in times of great economic crisis (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). However, researchers have listed a lot of disadvantages associated with these two international funding institutions. According to Tulchinsky and Varavikova (2009), there is a lot of evidence to be viewed as important examples of the effects of the World Bankand the IMF Funding on economic areas. Studies have shown that IMF has established a corrupt system implying neocolonialism that seeks to expose the developing nations for the benefit of the rich developed countries. The IMF has placed the economy in a state of environmental destruction. The developed countries account for the highest amount of harmful and toxic environmental emissions (Lee, 2005). • 50. Judith With The Head Of Holofernes As artistic movements sweep certain time periods, location is an important factor in the development of an artist s vision. While Europe is a compact continent, it s artistic productions can be largely influenced by the country of origin. This can be seen in multiple artistic movements such as the Renaissance where works from Italyand England while largely influenced by the same artistic goals produce works with stylistic differences. Baroquestyle art was also subject to these geographical differences influencing the vision of the artist. Understanding the complex layers of an artistic movement requires one to analysis works of art and how they compare to other pieces produced during the same time. By taking two works with the same subject matter, one can effectively dissect the influences that time and place have had on the artist s execution. In 1530 Germany, Lucas Cranach the Elderproduced a painting titled Judith with the Head of Holofernes depicting the biblical heroine Judith with the severed head of Holofernes. A little more than a hundred years later in 1640 Italy, Massimo Stanzione created a similar representation of this story in his work, Judith with the Head of Holofernes.
