Type 4 Pili Research Paper
Bacterial pili have been well studied for their structure, function, and genetics. However, little is
known about the structure and function of archaeal pili. Current research has begun to focus on the
archaeal pilus and its relatedness to bacterial pili, particularly the bacterial type IV pilus. Using
genetic and microscopy techniques, these studies have shown comparative evidence for the
differences, as well as homology, between archaeal and bacterial type IV pili. These results suggest
there may be an evolutionary divergence from a common ancestral function and origin.
Introduction
Bacteria have several different types of pili, known and classified based on their structure and
assembly. Similarly, archaeahave different appendages that ... Show more content on

eppA is a prepilin peptidase (1). Interestingly, M. maripaludis, also utilizes EppA, which is a
specific prepilin peptidease that only works when the archaellins are being being processed (1).
The organization of the archaeal type IV operon for pili biosynthesis could potentially indicate
various functions in for the pilin proteins and others involved (3). This presents difficulties if the
functions, as they are in M. maripaludis, are unknown and tough to predict due to their variance
and difference in quantity of genes compared to other known operons. As each of the archaea pilin
subunits are known to change and can be slightly different from species species, the regulations are
also changing and the pilins will code for an array of functions (3,

Beverly Daniel Tatum Ph.D. Is An Expert On Race Relations
Beverly Daniel Tatum PH.D. is an expert on race relations and the development of racial identity.
Tatum guides her readers through racial identity and major ideas and concepts regarding race.
Throughout the book readers will better understand the racial dynamic of their everyday lives,
along with suggestive actions toward a more equitable world for all. The following paragraph
gives a summary of the book, breaking it down into the IV parts containing ten chapters. Part I A
Definition of Terms: Chapter one Defining Racismdefines common and important terms when
discussing raceand racism, such as, oppression, prejudice, minorities, privilege, and many others.
Along with this, Tatum introduces the familiar feelings and thoughts many... Show more content on

She articulates this idea that we want to have an identity and feel safe around those of the same .
Lastly, Tatum makes a point that racial identity can persist into Adulthood, it is not only in schools
but also in the corporate world. Part III Understanding Whiteness in a White Context: This section
discusses the development of white identity and how many white people neglect to really think
about their identity. Thinking about racemay make many people uncomfortable but having those
difficult conversations and acknowledging privilege and oppression is the action that needs to be
taken. Tatum suggests affirmative action. Part IV: Beyond Black and White: Disuses important
issues of other racial minorities including, Latino, American Indian, and Asian Pacific American.
Tatum also discusses identity development in multiracial families, this can be a complex identity
development with many factors coming into play, however, parental encouragement of biracial
identity has been seen as highly beneficial. Part V Breaking the Silence: This final section offers
suggestion on embracing a cross racial dialogue. We can no longer can be silent and must work
toward social change and a more equitable world for all. Reading Beverly Daniel Tatum s book
Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? has greatly intersected with the
course material I have learned about this semester. Within the introductory section (Part

A Life-Threatening Disease Causing Infants to Blister,...
A genetic disorder that affects an estimated 25,000 50,000 people in the United States and can be
life threatening. This disease causes blisters on the skin but also in the mouth, esophagus, lungs
and muscles. Though this disorder is not common it can be mild with little symptoms, disabling,
where there are a few problems that may occur or it can be life threatening. This disease is called
Epidermolysis Bullosa.
Epidermolysis Bullosa is a genetic disorder that causes the skin to blister even with the slightest
force. Epidermolysis Bullosa is found in three different types. Each are caused by different genetic
mutations. The most common form of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is Epidermolysis Bullosa
simplex (EBS). The less common types of EB ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lives can be cut short if internal organs start to blister. Also those who have EB are more
likely to have skin cancer than those without EB. Another way that life could be cut short is
because EB can cause sepsis which is when bacteria is spread all over the body via blood stream.
There are three main types of EB. Each is caused by a different mutation. The most common type
of EB is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex (EBS). This variation is unlike the other two in the fact
that it is autosomal dominant. The gene that is mutated is called keratin 14 or KRT14 for short.
This gene in particular codes for keratins, a type of protein that forms skin, hair and nails. There
are over 60 mutations that have been found in people living with EBS from this gene alone. Keratin
14 is located on chromosome 17.
A second type of this disorder is called Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB). This is an
autosomal recessive condition. Unlike EBS this variation of EB is more severe and causes
more blistering and it is easier to blister. Mutations caused on the collagen 17 gene which is
located on chromosome 10 along with laminin 5 which is located on chromosome 20. Just as
there are different variations of EB there are two different forms of JEB. There are Herlitz and
non Herlitz. Herlitz is more severe and often can cause fingers and toes to fuse together. Herlitz
JEB affects all the skin not just certain parts such as the knees, feet, hands and

Life and Experiences of Tragey in Poe s Poetry and Stories...
The life and experiences of Poe are all incorporated into his poetry and stories. His life was filled
with tragedy. Poe s parents died when he was young, his foster mother, siblings and wife all died
as well. On top of this throughout his life he accumulated debt and was constantly criticized by
those around him. Dreamland is a journey alone in the worldof dreams searching for something
greater in life within what seems like a nightmare. Poe wrote this poem to show that people are
constantly searching for a certain aspect to make their lives better. Poe shows the importance of
this search by his use of imagery/symbols, sounds/words and figurative devices. The objects seen

It is a very intense and has a dreamlike feel to it. Everything has no bottom or end, it is all
limitless and helps prove the strange place the speaker has come to. The intensity and mass of
everything shows how the speaker is alone and small in the new place. This hyperbole or
exaggeration was used by Poe to further prove the way the stranger in the new world feels
overwhelmed and lost by the sights. Lone waters lone and dead (18) shows an emotion of suffering
and a greif of some kind. Poe uses a lot of strong words to create the mood of alone and darkness in
the poem.
Figurative devices are used in this poem to further develop the tone/mood, the environment
/setting and the senses the speaker is feeling in the poem. Poe gives the water an emotion. The
sad waters is a personification of the water being sad. This helps further explain the way the
speaker is grieving or suffering. Personification is also used when Poe describes the spirits and
beings in the poem to be human. This is shown in the lines Where an Eidolon, named NIGHT, on a
black throne reigns

The Third Artefact For My Portfolio
The third artefact for my portfolio was Assignment 3 in course Mdde 605, titled: Globe Driving
Academy Business Plan. Its purpose was to identify a business structure from the strategic plan
and multi year strategic goals and to reflect the potential for growth. Students were expected to
include financial plans and a balanced scorecard reflecting and measuring an organization s
success. This 43 page document covered everything from Business visions, motivation product
services, marketing schemes, governance process, to the Financial Plan for a for profit company
which was going to implement e learning as the next major step to stand out in the industry.
Competencies and Reflection The assignment itself was lengthy and took me a very long time to
complete it. Not having a background in business the most challenging part was doing research on
a projected financial plan. It was with a help of a charted accountant that I was able to accomplish
this with actual numbers from my workplace so all the information is based on true numbers. He
taught me how to gather information on company s projected sales, factors contributing to losses,
projected profit, and comparing with actual profit. This way, it is possible to predict of it is worth
investing before investing and starting new projects in the company. In the end, I was pleased with
the final product despite the frustration of reading multiple business plans, tackling the numbers

Its origins may be traced to European social movement in the 19th and early 20th century such as
Bohemians, and the influence of Eastern religion and spirituality. From around 1967, its
fundamental ethos including harmony with nature, communal living, artistic experimentation
particularly in music, and the widespread use of recreational drugs spread around the world during

African American Marginalization Analysis
What was the most definitive legislative act of marginalization directed at African Americans prior
to 1865?
In my view it s clear which legislative act marginalized African Americans the most, and would
have to be the implementation of lifelong servitude Virginia enacted in 1661. This legislation
would shape this country s use of slave labor and begin the process of marginalizing African
Americans. Now there are a number of other terribly oppressive pieces of legislation that would
further marginalize African Americans but it seems like this first act was decisive in that it
normalized the use of slaves through its ever expanding interpretation. I did not realise that before
reading the chapter four in the The Ethnic Dimension[1] on page ... Show more content on

were mistreated conflict directly with what I read in the constitution. That s why it is so
unfortunate to read the various supreme court decisions found in the module 4 Pertinent Supreme
Court Decisions , like Korematsu v. United States 1944, which ruled that the need to protect against
espionage outweighed Fred Korematsu s individual rights and the rights of Americans of Japanese
descent. This was clearly an event that marginalized so many during World War II and in my

He looked at me and I didn t know what to think, he gave me that look. That look of sudden

I ruin every single good thing in my life? But then I remembered. I have done something terrible.
Something that I will never forgive myself for. Earlier that day. The man I had known but never

A Modest Proposals By Johnathon Swift
The world we live in, especially Europe, has seen and will continue to see many writers who are
very critical of their government and its current its economic and political state. None however
match up to the critical writing of Johnathon Swift. Swift writes about how the Irish government is
in a poor state, both economically and politically. He writes about the povertyrates and how it is
affecting woman, especially. Swift goes on to explain how the poverty rate is hurting woman, most
of which are mothers with multiple kids who cant afford to feed them all. Swift explains how the
country would be better if parents sold their children, and if people ate them if they were not needed.

Such as the world that the United States is in. The fact that we as Americans feel the need to
import luxury and bet our families rather than investing and them. What I mean by import luxury
is that we don t make anything in our country anymore, everything is imported from Asia (China
and Japan mostly). America has a slowly growing poverty rate that can be fixed if people simply
invest in their country and love it like they love the stuff we import. If we buy American and buy
local in our states and country itself, the economic situation would increase. We could simply lift
ourselves out of debt to other countries. America has never related to a more correct and well

Swift says that if you buy and support locally and invest in your family and women rather than
gambling them away, often times you do better. This would increase the situation with the people

I had the pleasure of reading The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Or

slaves who had the opportunity to get educated because he was able live a different lifestyle rather
than the one that most slaves experienced. I deeply admire his effort to share his views on slavery
because it was during a time when blacks did not have much of a voice in society.
One of the reasons why it was very engaging to read this narrative because he informed the reader
of the culture in his homeland, which gave me an idea of Equiano s previous life before slavery.
Based on his descriptive language about his own African culture, it seems like Equiano

Ignorance And Happiness In Fahrenheit 451 And Pleasantville
The world we have, where we live, comprises a vast amount of knowledge. Knowledge refers to
awareness or familiarity, obtained through learning, discoveries, or education. When you born,
your brain is a blank sheet of paper. As you develop, your mind becomes conscious of facts and fills
the clear piece of paper. The writing on the paper is precious; thus the knowledgeis invaluable.
Everyone knows knowledge is precious, but have you ever thought: can knowledge make people
unhappy, distracted or suspicious? Ignorance is bliss plays a crucial character, contemplating the
above question. Ignorance is happiness; a phrase that is strongly interpreted in the book Giver and
the supporting films: Fahrenheit 451and Pleasantville.
Ignorance is bliss is well explained in the book Giver due to the subsequent explanations. The
book Giver illustrates that everybody in the society is peaceful, except Jonas and the Giver. The
reason Jonas and Giver are depressed is that they are mindful of all the unpleasant memories that
have been given on for years. An additional example that supports the phrase Unawareness is
pleasure, is, when Jonas s father goes for the releasing of a child, Jonas uncovers that releasing is
death. Before Jonas realized that releasing is death, he agreed on the concept of releasing, but as he
determines that releasing means death, that instant he says he killed him, my father killed him,
showing a shock, and sadness. The statement, Illiteracy is happiness is correct because the
examples illustrate that everyone in the community is fortunate because they are innocent of
everything, even colors. They don t even know what is outside the town, so they claim it
elsewhere. If people wish to live a pleasant life, they should not be informed of everything
The movie Fahrenheit 451 provides a highly circumstantial evidence, for the phrase Ignorance is
bliss. The famous quote from the film Fahrenheit 451; If you do not wish a house to set up, hide
the nails and woods, meaning no one can build a house without nails and woods. How does this
quote justify Ignorance is bliss? The quote states that if societies do not require people to have the
intelligence, then all the wisdom bearing materials

The Forbidden City And 19th Century Merchants
How did changing energy conditions affect the design of the homes of powerful people comparison
between the Forbidden City and 19th century merchants houses in Liverpool
Introduction
This essay will discuss the similarities and differences between The Forbidden City and 19th
century merchants house in Liverpool, in terms of the material used, the scale of the buildings, the
structural engineering designs and the decorations, despite being in two completely different
energy conditions.
The Forbidden City, one of the most famous and important buildings in China, was the imperial
palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty (1420 1912). It is located in the centre
of Beijing, China, now serves as the Palace Museum. When Hongwu Emperor s son Zhu Di
became the emperor, he moved the capital from Nanjing to Beijing and began to build the
Forbidden City in 1406[1]. As a palace, the Forbidden City is incredibly huge, it is 961 metres
(3,153 ft.) from north to south and 753 metres (2,470 ft.) from east to west [1], it consists 980
buildings [2] and was designed to be the centre of the old city of Beijing. The Forbidden City has a
huge impact on the cultural and architecture development in the eastern world, as the culmination
of the two thousand years development of Chinese architecture culture and one of the most
important symbols of China, it impacts the eastern Asia or even the entire eastern world.
Liverpool started its development in the mid 16th

Can You Have More Than One Dental Implant Installed At Once?
Problems with missing teeth is more common than you think. In fact, 3% of adults between 20

look to fix missing teeth once and for all, which can lead someone dental implants.
However, a potential dental implant patient may be looking to repair more than one missing tooth
at the same time. This raises the questions of if a patient can receive multiple dental implants all at
once, or if this procedure requires multiple visits. Here are some factors that should be considered
if you are looking to receive multiple implants.

This allows a patient to be fully recovered in the fastest way possible.
The Healing Process
Another factor to take into consideration is the overall healing process after receiving dental
implant. A patient that receives multiple implants can have a harder time getting through recovery,
which largely depends on where those implants are installed.
The total healing process can take as long as six months, and you ll need to avoid putting pressure
on your dental implants during that time. Ignoring this advice can make the healing process take
longer or potentially cause the integration to fail. If you decide to have dental implants on opposite
sides of the mouth, it will be hard to avoid chewing in a place where the dental implants have been
installed.
Some patients choose to change up their diet in order to have multiple implants installed at once.
This includes switching to softer foods that do not require chewing. Some people find the change
in how they eat to be difficult, especially if they really like eating foods that should be avoided
during recovery. Try switching your diet up before your surgrey to gauge how you will adjust during

Advantages and Disadvantages of Easily Obtainable Information The rise of technology has
shaped our generation in so many ways. As a child, I remember going to the library and checking
out books when I had a paper or project due for class. As I got older the need for finding books or
publications for research purposes decreased considerably. As I entered middle school, a class was
being taught on computer literacy, and looking back on that class I see how important it was to
get started early. I can only recall one time in the last three years where I stepped foot into a
public library, and that was to place my vote for the 2016 presidential election. The fact that I
can hop on my phone, and search anything I could possibly want to know about, and that
information be displayed in a matter of seconds is an amazing and wonderful thing. The
downside to the capability of information at your fingertips is that it causes people (including
myself) to be lazy. Vocabulary and literacy levels are lower now, because you don t have to read
several books to find what you are looking for. I loved reading for pleasure when I was younger,
and still do, but that was because I was required to read more to find answers to questions. Siri and
Google have almost eliminated the need to do such research.

Similarities Between Cinderella And Folk Tales
A folk tale is a type of story passed down from generation to generation. These tales encounter a
method to explain things to people did not understand, or to teach a life lesson. Different cultures
have different folktales and many of the time there are varying versions of the same story. One of
the most popular fairy tales from around the world is Cinderella, there are over 900 variations of
Cinderella folk tales around the world. Furthermore, the most famous Shakespeare s play Hamletis
the longest play in five acts. Not to mention, there is a lot of similarity between the two tales some
are obvious like the familyunity or the Oedipal Complex, other are more concealed like the law of
three or the law of twins.
The law of three is a very noticeable element in many folk tales. In the family of Cinderella tale
they consist of two stepsisters and a stepmother, also to mention in the tale the time Cinderella
should return to her home is midnight (Glenning). We can reduce twelve to three by adding the
two to one add up to three. Furthermore, there are many examples to support the law of three in
Hamlet the Shakespeare s longest play, the king ghost appears three times and multiple lines
declared up to three times. With the present of Claudius in the Hamlet tragedy to represent a lover
s triangle another evidence of the law of three.
Since the start of the Hamlet play, Hamlet always acts in a logical and educated manner. He
expresses himself, and his actions by the power of reasoning and knowledge. It is proven, when
Hamlet sees his father s ghost, he does not immediately believe it is his father ghost, but instead,
he says Let me not burst in ignorance; but tell / Why thy canonized bones, hearsed in death,
/ Have burst their cerements . . . Say, why is this? wherefore? what should we do? (I.iv.46 48,57).
Hamlet was mystified by the appearance of his father s ghost. Hamlet as a skeptical person was not
sure how to act with the ghost (Aboukhadijeh) , since his logical thinking figures that the sight of
the ghost is impossible. on the other hand, his emotion as a son to see his dead father contract with
him. Nonetheless, he suppresses his desire to see his father and maintain his doubts about the

The Electronic Medical Record ( Emr )
Meaningful Use and its Development The electronic medical record (EMR) is the replacement of
paper manual charts and is being used all across the country. As per Hebda and Czar (2013), the
EMR is the building block of the electronic health record (EHR), which can be defined as a
longitudinal record that includes client data, demographics, clinician notes, medications, diagnostic
findings, and other essential healthcare information (p.293). The widespread use of EHR s in
America is foreseeable and inevitably unavoidable, but by no means a simple and undoubtedly an
effortless task to achieve. In an attempt to reduce costs in the introduction, conversion, and
implementation of patient health records the government has provided regulations for meaningful
use (MU) (p.280). In the attempt to improve the safety and quality of the nation s healthcare
system, the government enacted the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical
Health (HITECH) Act. The HITECH Act is part of the American Reinvestment Recovery Act

Privacy Is One Of The Problems Of Media Privacy
Now a day, privacy is one of the problems of media ethics in our life. The Longman dictionary
defines privacy as the state of being able to be alone, not seen or heard by other people, and free
from public attention. We may recognize that it is simple to keep privacy; nonetheless, journalists
and people don t keep it even through they know that it is important.
Furthermore, the tendency that it will be fine even if you do not keep privacy is getting stronger year
by year. One of the reasons is because technology is developing rapidly in the world. This
evidence is that a lot of people bring with them their smart phones and computers to the evidence of
this. Stefano Taddei said, The results suggest practical implications for online social network
providers, most of all with regard to privacy policies in online environments (2013). In the future,
the providers will develop and affect us positive and negative through using technology.
I believe that privacy is most important for the future because privacy is the origin of the media
ethics, which is about indecency, control, and truthfulness. I think that privacy is a problem of
particular importance concerning human s virtue in this time.
First, the problem is indecency. Some argue that indecency in media encourages people to mimic
the behavior they see in the news stories from sensational movies. They are prevalent to even
children recently; moreover, these influences will remain strong even when the children became

Global Fiscal And Money Related Framework Essay
There is an essential contrariness between the achievement of worldwide monetary strength and
having a single national currency play out the part of the world s reserve cash. This is not another
disclosure. However, occasions of a previous couple of months have brought this theme over into
the spotlight.
Born in Belgian, American economist Robert Triffin initially highlighted this contrariness in the
1960s. He watched that having the US dollar play out the part of the world s reserve currency made
essential irreconcilable situations amongst national and universal financial and economic goals.
From one viewpoint, the global economy required dollars for liquidity purposes and to fulfill
interest for save resources/assets. In any case, this constrained, or possibly made it simple, for the
US to run reliably massive current account deficits. (CANAVAN).
Every global fiscal and money related framework needs to depend on at least one universal
currency so as to permit financial specialists to interface in the global economy by utilizing such
coinage as a method of payment, a unit of record or a store of significant worth. At the point when
these global currencies are additionally local ones, the supply of global liquidity comes from at least
one center nations. Furthermore, when the center governments work as a restraining infrastructure
or semi imposing business model, after some time they tend to exploit other countries high reliance
on their local cash. By misusing this

Different Opinions And Ideas About The Theories Of...
In this class, we have discussed many different opinions and ideas about the theories of
personalities. Of these, I have chosen to incorporate ideas from myself, McAdams, Freud, Jung,
Adler, and Horney. I believe that there are seven personality types and each is displayed as a
personification in a character from the Peanutscartoons and comics. The personalities are
Neuroticism, Openness to Experience and Imagination, Psychoticism, Passive Aggressive
Dependency, Histrionicism, Introversion, and Extraversion. These personality types make up the
world, and I believe that any single person can actually have several different personalities. It can
be noted that three of the Big Five by McAdams are included in my breakdown of... Show more

Horney came up with a list of ten needs that Neurotic people have. These needs include The
Neurotic need for affection and approval which Charlie Brown clearly shows in his worry about
how others view him (Hall, Lindzey, Campbell, 1998) ; The Neurotic ambition for personal
achievement which is displayed in his over analysis of everything to try and always improve
himself for personal achievement(Hall, Lindzey, Campbell, 1998) ; And The Neurotic need for
perfection and unassailability which is again shown in his worry over his inadequacies (Hall,
Lindzey, Campbell, 1998) . These negative feelings and thoughts toward everyday life lead me to
believe that Charlie Brown is a near perfect personification of neuroticism.
Openness to Experience and Imagination In the Peanuts comic, Linus is known as Charlie Brown s
best friend and he carries around a blanket most of the time. This security blanket helps Linus be
open to experiences and imagination. McAdams describes openness to experience as a cluster of
characteristics having to do with how reflective, imaginative, artistic, and refined a person is
(McAdams, 2009). Linus is one of the most thoughtful, intelligent and inviting of the characters in
Peanuts. He listens to others while thoughtfully thinking about what is said, and he keeps his mind
wide open to the possibility that he will see things that others may not. For example, Linus is the

Meyer Vs Darwin
Charles Darwin was one of the first scientists of the 19th century that theorized the concept of
evolution. Scientists at the time had realized that species had evolved from primitive forms, but
did not know exactly how this happened. Darwin s studies began while on a ship traveling
around the world with the English navy. After exploring the Galapagos islands of the Pacific,
Darwin realized that animals adapted to local conditions to change themselves to survive. He also
saw that this was not just the case for animals, but humans too. Once Darwin returned from his
journey with many new samples of species, he continued his research. He was disheartened once
his daughter died, and no longer could believe completely in God. He learned that nature was
driven by survival of the strongest species, and this must be true for humans as well. Darwin kept
his theories to himself for 20 years until he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Europe completely took over the area and broke it apart into several different colonies. Darwin s
theory was no longer just scientific; empiricists had taken over to make it political theory. I believe
that there is equal likelihood that both Darwin s theory of evolution and Meyer s theory of
intelligent design can be true. In fact, I believe that both are likely to be true in a combined
sense. Darwin s theory is backed up by evidence, but Meyer s has not existed for as long so there
is not as much concrete evidence. By studying bone structure, fossils, species over the world s
evolution, it is apparent that this is no coincidence: animals have evolved over time. There are so
many transitional fossils that link different species to one another, and they can show the
adaptations that have been developed because of conditions like climate and area. Evolution due
to local condition and adaptation must be true species are fighting to survive. This can be observed

Examples Of Supernatural Elements In Jane Eyre
In addition to introducing the supernatural element of the story, the early chapters serve as a base
for Jane s future character and thought process. The way she is treated by Mrs. Reed, the children
and the servants influences and shapes the way she treats herself and the world around her
throughout the novel. From the very beginning, Jane s rebellious, free mind and her strong sense
of justice are undermined the constant self doubt and a tendency to compare herself with others.
While she is aware that much of what she suffers is unjustified, the constancy of the abuse over
time does largely succeed to crush her sense of righteousness and instil in her the thought that
she is only being treated badly because of her character and physical appearance. She constantly
compares herself with her cousins, saying that Eliza, who was headstrong and selfish, was
respected , and Georgiana, who had a spoiled temper, a very acrid spite, a captious and insolent
carriage, was universally indulged , always forgiven because of her beauty, her pink cheeks and
golden curls. By using negative words such as headstrong or insolent when she could alternatively
describe them as strong willed or independent, Jane leaves no doubt that, if she envies the treatment
afforded to her cousins, she does not envy their character. Her sense of injustice, however, seems to
be directed more towards nature than the adults around her, as if she thought that more agreeable or
beautiful feature could

contractors work all year, so this would indicate that roof repairs can be carried out at any stage

Taking a Look at the Bitcoin
Problem Overview
Since the creation of Bitcoin in 2009, cryptocurrencies have gained an increasing amount of media
attention. Ever since Bitcoin first began trading, investors as well as miners have proclaimed the
positive and negative aspects of the virtual currency, though the fluctuation in price of Bitcoin has
been very difficult to determine. This research paper look analyzes some of the issues that must be
addressed to ensure the future of Bitcoin.
Introduction
The first form of cyptocurrency, Bitcoins are the first type of digital currency that is both created
and subsequently managed by cryptography, rather than a central authority (Kinsella 2013). The
Bitcoin architecture was outlined in a research paper by Satoshi Nakamoto, which led to the
creation of a decentralized network, allowing the peer to peer digital currency to be owned and
traded (Smith 2013). After several years of development, Bitcoin was launched in 2009, and exists
solely within the Block Chain (explained later).
Creation of Bitcoins
The architecture of Bitcoin utilizes a validation system, based on a sequence of recent transactions
and numerical proofs of work, which are passed through an SHA 256 hashing algorithm (twice)
(Smith 2013). The result of this is a block , which follows very precise mathematical criteria, and
requires an exact numerical to solve. These required numericals are extremely difficult to calculate.
This validation
Each block has a varying level of difficulty, in order for

Effects of Social Networking on Undergraduate Student s...
Introduction Social networking has made its way into American culture quickly and is more
prevalent now than ever before. Many people have different views on the relevance and benefits
of social networking, whether they are positive or negative standpoints. Nevertheless, social media
and networking is a part of our American lifestyles as a whole. As a Computer Information
Systems major and studying the foundations and composition of computer applications, I would
like to research the effects that social networks have on underclassmen undergraduate students
attending an Historically Black College or University. In order to conduct this research, a study
and survey must be held to determine whether social networking positively or negatively affects
grade point averages by recording the number of social networks students are actively using and
the number of hours spent on these applications in comparison to grade point averages. This
research is important because there are many individuals who do not know the effects of their
social networking, or lack thereof, has on their grades, sleeping patterns, health, and lifestyles in
general. Although this research will focus on grade point averages of students, it will also
determine if social networking has effects on other aspects of the college life such as sleeping
patterns, health, and awareness. Purpose of Study Individuals should understand that the use or

The Concept Of The Prokaryote Valid And Useful Or...
Is the concept of the prokaryote valid and useful or fundamentally flawed?
The term prokaryote was coined in 1925 by Г‰douard Chatton in his 1925 paper Pansporella
perplex: Reflections on the Biology and Phylogeny of the Protozoa. (Chatton, 1925). Since then the
term, when paired with its dichotomous counterpart eukaryote , has formed the fundamental basis
for classification in biology. However in recent years the concept of the prokaryote has been wildly
contested as being inaccurate (amongst other things), and the dichotomy of eukaryote/prokaryote
based on a misleading and ultimately incorrect distinction that is phylogenetically contestable. This
essay will examine the validity and usefulness of the concept of the prokaryote, as well as evaluate
why the term or even the abolition of the term may be important in different contexts.
The definition of a prokaryote is simply a single celled organism with no nuclear membrane and
consequently no membrane bound organelles. It is therefore logical to assume that one would find
a nucleus and membrane bound organelles in a eukaryotic cell. Although the expression is widely
accepted by myriad biologists and microbiologists alike and has been since the birth of the term,
the word has come under much scrutiny due to its negative definition; as in prokaryote describes
that the cell is lacking characteristic eukaryotic features rather than being defined in its own terms
(Woese, 1994; Pace, 2006). This topic is highly

Water Pollution And Its Effects On Aquatic Life
Water Pollution and its Effects on Aquatic Life
Charles Darwin, the father of evolutionary biology, states in his theory of evolution that only
organisms better fit to survive in their environment will survive. Based on his theory and research,
it can be concluded that challenges to the environment directly affect the organisms. Research
shows that in particular water pollution; hospital wastewater and sewage wastewater, is shown to
cause antibiotic resistant microorganisms, excess nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus as well
as heavy metals that harm the aquatic life present in the body of water. Antibiotic resistant
microorganisms refer to organisms that cannot be killed by antibiotics such as penicillin or
ampicillin. The heavy metals referred to are, mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), chromium
(Cr), thallium (Tl), and lead (Pb); these metals mainly impact fish.
As mentioned above one of the key sources of water pollution is hospital wastewater. It has been
reported that local wastewater treatment plants are unequipped to treat the wastewater completely
(Nielsen) and therefore hazardous to the environment. Part of the hospital wastewater are
antibiotics that come out in active form because it has not been completely metabolized. (Ahmad,
M., et al.). This means that the antibiotics have not been completely broken down and can still kill
bacteria present in the water body. The presence of antibiotics would not be a critical issue if it
was simply killing off

Huckleberry Finn
The theme of Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn is that the ideas of society can greatly influence the
individual, and sometimes the individual must break off from the accepted values of society to
determine the ultimate truth for himself. In Huckleberry Finn s world, society has corrupted justice

justifying slavery, through whatever social or religious ways that they deemed necessary during

Huckleberry Finn recognizes Jim as a human being, but is fighting the beliefs bestowed upon him
by a society that believes slaves should not be free. However, it is important to realize that although
Huckleberry Finn s decisions create the conflict between society and himself (and that this conflict
forms the theme of the novel), Huck is oblivious to the justice, the righteousness, and even the
heroism of his own actions, they are simply in accordance with his own conscience.
The climax comes in chapter thirty one of the novel, when Huckleberry Finn s moral development
reaches its peak. Up until this point in the novel, Huckleberry Finn has been experiencing internal
conflict concerning his treatment of Jim. Society has brought him up to believe that Jim is nothing
but property, rightfully belonging to Miss Watson, and so Huck would be wrong in helping Jim

situation tell him that he is doing the right thing.
Huck feels terrible because he cannot please both voices of his conscience. Huckleberry Finn feels
as though society is right, and he is wrong. At first, he begins to write a letter to Miss Watson to

novel, Huck says, quot; All right, then I ll go to hell, quot; right as he tore up the letter. This

Treasure Island Futility Of Desire Essay
Treasure Island, Piracy, and the Futility of Desire Fifteen men on the dead man s chest yo ho ho,
and a bottle of rum! Drink and the devil had done for the rest yo ho ho, and a bottle of rum! This
is what the former sea captain, Billy Bones, warbled while drunk on rum in the novel Treasure
Island. In Treasure Island a young boy and some pirates go hunting for a dead man s buried
treasure, and they basically come up empty handed in the end, even after killing others to find it.
Based on the pirates actions, attitudes, and greediness in Treasure Island as well as in the real

ineffectiveness of want. In the novel it explains As for Ben Gunn, he got ВЈ1,000, which he spent

Introduction
Muriel Sparks is an author of great vision and ambition. She got her work The Girls of Slender
Means published in 1963, when she was in her forties. The book was appreciated by all on its best
contributions; the book has literary features; irony, fun, penetrating, unsettling and extremely
beautiful theme that people found undeniably striking.
Discussion
Spark witnessed the disturbing propaganda of wartime, experiencing gloomy delicacies and
powerful language of the time inaction. Her writing shows reflection of human aptitudes and this is
the reason regarded by critics that it has ability to change things into fiction from reality. Every
word in novel is best placed, to save, or to kill.
Muriel Spark s work is appreciated as appealing to readers and described best as clever and elegant.

his father. Bing! Just like that. Well, it s the element (314 Act 1). In the quote we see that his
personality is bitter because when he says element it is as if he was mentioning a group. The
readers then sees that ten despises the other jurors beliefs, You re not going to tell us that we re
supposed to believe him... (315 Act 1). This shows he does not care about the other s opinion
making him selfish. Furthermore, ten also contradicts the other jurors beliefs, Did anyone force
him to kill his father? How do you like him? (320 Act 1) This shows how ten cares about himself

Alternative to Incarceration Essay
December 5, 2001
Alternatives to incarceration
Ever since the first prison opened in the United States in 1790, incarceration has been the center of
the nation s criminal justice system. Over this 200 year period many creative alternatives to
incarceration have been tried, and many at a much lower cost than imprisonment. It wasn t until the
late 1980 s when our criminal justice systems across the country began experiencing a problem
with overcrowding of facilities. This problem forced lawmakers to develop new options for
sentencing criminal offenders. Unlike jail or prisons, which create an expensive cycle of violence
and crime, these alternatives actually prevent violence and strengthen communities.

Another commonly used alternative is house arrest and confinement. This sanction restricts an
individual to his or her residence for specific periods of time; in most house arrest programs
offenders are allowed to leave their homes only for employment, medical needs, or mandated
assignments such as community service or school. The emphasis of this program is on
confinement, and the supervising officers role is to ensure that the offender stays confined at
home. There are three different levels of home confinement, each with a different degree of
restricted freedom. The first is curfew which requires offenders to be in their residence during
limited, specific hours, generally at night. The offender s movements outside of the curfew hours
are unregulated. The second is home detention that requires offenders to remain at home at all times
except for employment, education, treatment, or other pre approved activities. This program may
be with the assisted with electronic monitoring. The last level is home incarceration. This program
requires offenders to remain at home at all times, with very limited exceptions for religious or
medical purposes. At a minimum, offenders are subject to random contacts across all hours covered
by the condition in order to verify compliance.
Electronic monitoring is another widely used form of surveillance in which an electronic device is
attached to an offender s body, warning that person that

Whitman s Song Of Myself
Song of Myself , by Whalt Whitman, is a poem included in the book Leaves of Grass written in
1855. This poem is probably the most popular of the entire book and, also, one of the most
acclaimed and influential poems written by an American (Wikipedia, 2015). Due to its immense
popularity, it has been translated to many different languages. In the case of Spanish translations,
the most well known version is the one translated by Borges in 1969. Despite its public
acknowledgment, Borges translation is not completely faithful to the original poem. In fact, Canto
de mi mismo presents differences with the original poem, as a result of the differing personal
views from both authors. One phrase whose translation serves as an example of Borges

Bourgeoise In The Communist Manifesto
The Communist Manifesto first came about as a result of the economic and political chaos. Within
the document, it distinguishes the class stratification and the struggles within. Also within the
Communist Manifesto, it was clear that the production of development involving the lower class
(proletariat) and the middle class (bourgeoise) was its clear focus. The document then discusses the
class struggles of both the proletariat and the bourgeoise, and soon shows how one class over
powers the other. This would soon develop a new form of freedom for the rest of the society. The
basic argument of the Communist Manifesto is the struggles within the classes. The bourgeoise
was commonly known as the property owners and the proletariat was commonly known as the
workers. The class struggle begins with the bourgeoisies. The bourgeoisies society was created from
the ruins of the feudal society, they had the advantage of not only progression of industrial
commerce, but they also had the advantage of convenient transportation. Due to the advantage of
transportation, the bourgeoisies were very popular within distributions to other countries. This was
a problem because due to the mass production and transportation of trade between two regions, this
created competition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gave us an insight on how class consciousness is required to create a well organized production
society. When a society has class consciousness, it gives them an advantage of team work. When
they are aware of their class, they understand what is happening around them and also see
themselves as a group with common interest to work together as a whole, rather than individual.
This shows us that if it was productive in history, it would more likely be beneficial to our society
today if we were more aware of our class to create an organized

Loss Of Innocence In The Handmaid s Tale
Coming into college I had an established belief system. I had asked myself extremely tough
questions about life, the purpose of humanity, etc.; and because I am completely aware that I have
blind spots I invited others to ask me tough questions as well. My innate desire to unveil truth was
executed in a manner similar to the technique that John Milton advocates for in his novel
Areopagitica, in regard to purity being a product of trial. I have always established my convictions
on the basis of my beliefs being able to withstand trials, because truthcan be put on trial repeatedly,
but if it is really true there will always be a verdict of innocence. This court metaphor alludes to
truth always being true, because if it is really truth there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Offred s character revealed an interesting part of the human situation, and that is that we possess
a desire for some sense of stability and comfort in our situation regardless of if it is a large
amount or small. In the midst of Offred s unfortunate situation it becomes evident that her
transition from her previous life to her current situation has included a loss of freedom and
power. Her lack of control and her awareness of it is evident, and we see that her response to this
is striving to find control, power, and stability in anything that she can. The reader gets a
glimpse of this when Offred admits to feeling empowered by acquiring the sympathy of the
commander and taunting the guards with her hips; she also finds comfort and a sense of
stability in her relationship with Nick. Offred s behavior reveals an intimate human quality and
that is the desire to have a form of control over our lives and decisions, even when that is not
necessarily the case. For example if a child has to go stay two weeks in Wisconsin with family
members they do not like and they don t have a choice. The child would be upset, but a way to
ease the anger would be to give them the opportunity to choose their form of transportation train,
plane, car, etc. This makes them feel a little better because they are getting to control something,
yet it doesn t change the fact that they are still required to go to Wisconsin and they have no
control in that. Sometimes when we are faced with a situation where we really have no choice, if
we can find a way to trick ourselves into thinking we do have a choice our situation becomes more
bearable. This is a result of us believing that we have some form of control, and this concept is
present in Offred s character throughout the Handmaid s Taleand it also reveals a human quality that

Why Is Leonardo Da Vinci Important
Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most famous artists from the Italian Renaissance. He was not only a
painter, but had many talents in sculpting, science, music and architecture. He made amazing
scientific discoveries throughout his life, which led to advancements in the field. He is mostly
known for his paintings, the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper. I believe Leonardo Da Vinci
compares well to Albert Einstein. Both Da Vinci, and Einstein were very involved in science, and
discovered many amazing things. I think Albert Einstein is important because he developed the
theory of relativity, and the mass energy equivalence (E=MC^2). Leonardo, like Einstein also
studied physics. He used physics to help create many of his inventions. While Leonardo kept private
journals, Einstein wrote many scientific essays that showed his studies. He sent these off to many
scientists to have an experts opinion on what he theorized. Both of these men studied many
interesting, and helpful things that evolved science into what it is now.

Theme Of Vittorio De Sica
Vittorio De Sica is considered one of the most important directors during the time of the Italian
Neorealism movement which occurred after the fall of fascism in Italy. Neorealism revolves
around realistic filmmaking. Rather than produce glossy films to heal the heartbreak in this post
war country, De Sica and several other directors focused on the working class and how fatal the
blow of fascism was. It was an artistic response to an abundance of commercial entertainment
films spewing from Hollywood. Although it was beautiful it was much more than a piece of art, it
was revolutionary. These films offered not the escape that many Italians desired at the time but
instead held a mirror up to the general public. It showed that if the public cares about one family s
story on screen every family s story matters, a crucial point to make after years of a dictatorship that
told them the opposite. The most predominant themes that are portrayed in De Sica s work are
poverty, economic turndown and choices. He displays these uniquely through mise en scene,
dialogue, cinematography and attitude. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

related to this greatly. De Sica also shows others standing in the que to sell items in return for
money, their faces grave with desperation the cinematography in this scene reminds the viewer that
it is not just the protagonist going through this tough time, its everybody. This highlights the
neorealism style by not singling out one character and focusing on the working class. In many
scenes in the film there are a mass amount of people either walking by or noticeable in the

Pros And Cons Of Reducing Dry Land Salinity
3.2 Approaches for reducing dry land salinity As there are few methods for completely reversing
dry land salinity, this inquiry focused on sourcing ways of slowing and containing the spread of
soil salinity for government entities as well as encouraging farmers to rethink how to make their
salt affected land productive. Western Australia first released a Salinity Action plan in 1996 which
detailed the joint task between all stake holders including the government, farmers and the wider
community, to limit the progression of secondary salinity, recover and treat salt affected land and
protect native biodiversity, water quality and infrastructure (Water and Rivers Commission, 2000).
However, simply replanting perennials falls short of correcting secondary salinity as by the time
land has been identified as having high saline levels it takes decades or even centuries to establish
mature deep rooted perennials (Parliament of Australia, 2012). Several strategies have been
implemented though to stop the loss of productive farm land, such as fencing off grazing land,
planting fodder plants, trees and salt tolerant crops and the development of... Show more content on

Therefore, Western Australia must learn from the past as the predicted spread of secondary salinity
is estimated to reach 8.8 million hectares by 2050 (Parliament of Australia, 2004). Therefore this
report concludes that solving the salinity crisis can only be achieved by restoring balance to the
groundwater table. Based on the evidence provided in this report, rebalancing the groundwater table
is achievable by repurposing unproductive farming land by introducing saline agronomy; which
includes planting salt tolerant crops such as tall wheat grass, and saltbush, as well as inventive
industries that can use saline ground water from pumping (Parliament of Australia,

The Marriage Of Same Sex Marriage
Redefining Marriage
Same sex marriage has been an ongoing debate for many years. Gay people and gay supporters
believe that they should be treated equally to marry whoever they want because it is how they feel
and people should be understanding of that. By being human they argue that it is their right to have
equality. On the other hand, Christians believe that they should not have the right to marry the
same sex because it is an attack on the church and degrades the traditional concept of marriage. Due
to Christians not believing in same sex marriage, they worry that now it is legal that they will be
forced to accept it and preachers and pastors will be forced to marry gay couples. There are many
standing viewpoints on the matter and these two points of view say the most. Does same sex
marriage effect religion or not?
Traditionalist who are against gay marriage believe that the dignity of marriage is being
compromised. James Heiser says that it is against religious teachings and that it weakens the
traditional concept of marriage. They argue that the awe, wonder, and dignity of marriage needs to
be recaptured and that this is an assault on the family. Traditionalists point out that while the Obama
administration s decision to stop defending marriage as existing between one man and one woman
indicates a break with its former policy on the issue, a closer analysis shows that President Obama
has a long history of gay/lesbian activism, unconstitutionally usurping

Writing In The Afterlife By Billy Collins
. There were many events that occurred between the 1940s and today in the world. However, in
America, a lot of the social issues were mostly dealing with sex, drugs, and alcohol. During the
1950s and 1960s, the social trends consisted of supply and demand. The supply and demand
caused for there to be more entertainment as well as an increase in pay. A few types of
entertainment pieces was the first magazine of Playboy being issued, more talk about sex, drugs,
and alcohol in songs and the radio shows were transitioning to television shows. Due to the
newspaper in New York City having competition with the television company, the employees of the
newspaper went on strike in 1953 for an increase in wages (Musser 1960s). A form of entertainment,

Collins uses imagery in his poem Writing in the Afterlife in order to express his perception of
the way the afterlife looks. The poem, Writing in the Afterlife is about the narrator/speaker
talking about their perception of what heaven looks like to them. Then the poem goes into more
precise detail as to the narrator/speaker actually entering into heaven. The way Collins could
possibly relate the poem to his actual life is his perception of heaven, may have seen heaven in
his past life, or someone he knows may have seen heaven in their past life. But more towards the
end of the poem, he compares mentions his writing to be heavenly, in a sense because he
mentions the writing is peaceful like heaven to him. The way imagery relates to Collins poem,
Writing in the Afterlife is by Collins describing heaven. For example, Collins says, I imagined
the atmosphere would be clear, / shot with pristine light,/..the air ionized as before a
thunderstorm./ (Lines 1, 2, 4). Collins may have also written this poem in order to become at
peace with the loss of his parents because he says, I knew I would not always be a child/ with a
model train and a model tunnel/ (Lines 9 10). As a result, Collins is able to use imagery in order to
display his perception as well as his active imagination of heaven through his poem Writing in the
Afterlife (Poetry Foundation 2002). (Transition

  • 2. Type 4 Pili Research Paper Bacterial pili have been well studied for their structure, function, and genetics. However, little is known about the structure and function of archaeal pili. Current research has begun to focus on the archaeal pilus and its relatedness to bacterial pili, particularly the bacterial type IV pilus. Using genetic and microscopy techniques, these studies have shown comparative evidence for the differences, as well as homology, between archaeal and bacterial type IV pili. These results suggest there may be an evolutionary divergence from a common ancestral function and origin. Introduction Bacteria have several different types of pili, known and classified based on their structure and assembly. Similarly, archaeahave different appendages that ... Though many are not yet known and are not homologues of any type IV pili system in bacteria or archaea, it is known that a encoded mmp1685 a major pilin gene, epdA, epdB, epdC are minor pilin genes, mmp0040 an ATPase, and eppA is a prepilin peptidase (1). Interestingly, M. maripaludis, also utilizes EppA, which is a specific prepilin peptidease that only works when the archaellins are being being processed (1). The organization of the archaeal type IV operon for pili biosynthesis could potentially indicate various functions in for the pilin proteins and others involved (3). This presents difficulties if the functions, as they are in M. maripaludis, are unknown and tough to predict due to their variance and difference in quantity of genes compared to other known operons. As each of the archaea pilin subunits are known to change and can be slightly different from species species, the regulations are also changing and the pilins will code for an array of functions (3, ... She articulates this idea that we want to have an identity and feel safe around those of the same . Lastly, Tatum makes a point that racial identity can persist into Adulthood, it is not only in schools but also in the corporate world. Part III Understanding Whiteness in a White Context: This section discusses the development of white identity and how many white people neglect to really think about their identity. Thinking about racemay make many people uncomfortable but having those difficult conversations and acknowledging privilege and oppression is the action that needs to be taken. Tatum suggests affirmative action. Part IV: Beyond Black and White: Disuses important issues of other racial minorities including, Latino, American Indian, and Asian Pacific American. Tatum also discusses identity development in multiracial families, this can be a complex identity development with many factors coming into play, however, parental encouragement of biracial identity has been seen as highly beneficial. Part V Breaking the Silence: This final section offers suggestion on embracing a cross racial dialogue. We can no longer can be silent and must work toward social change and a more equitable world for all. • 4. A Life-Threatening Disease Causing Infants to Blister,... A genetic disorder that affects an estimated 25,000 50,000 people in the United States and can be life threatening. This disease causes blisters on the skin but also in the mouth, esophagus, lungs and muscles. Though this disorder is not common it can be mild with little symptoms, disabling, where there are a few problems that may occur or it can be life threatening. This disease is called Epidermolysis Bullosa. Epidermolysis Bullosa is a genetic disorder that causes the skin to blister even with the slightest force. Epidermolysis Bullosa is found in three different types. Each are caused by different genetic mutations. The most common form of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex (EBS). The less common types of EB ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lives can be cut short if internal organs start to blister. Also those who have EB are more likely to have skin cancer than those without EB. Another way that life could be cut short is because EB can cause sepsis which is when bacteria is spread all over the body via blood stream. There are three main types of EB. Each is caused by a different mutation. The most common type of EB is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex (EBS). This variation is unlike the other two in the fact that it is autosomal dominant. The gene that is mutated is called keratin 14 or KRT14 for short. This gene in particular codes for keratins, a type of protein that forms skin, hair and nails. There are over 60 mutations that have been found in people living with EBS from this gene alone. Keratin 14 is located on chromosome 17. A second type of this disorder is called Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB). This is an autosomal recessive condition. Unlike EBS this variation of EB is more severe and causes more blistering and it is easier to blister. Mutations caused on the collagen 17 gene which is located on chromosome 10 along with laminin 5 which is located on chromosome 20. Just as there are different variations of EB there are two different forms of JEB. There are Herlitz and non Herlitz. Herlitz is more severe and often can cause fingers and toes to fuse together. Poe s parents died when he was young, his foster mother, siblings and wife all died as well. On top of this throughout his life he accumulated debt and was constantly criticized by those around him. Dreamland is a journey alone in the worldof dreams searching for something greater in life within what seems like a nightmare. This hyperbole or exaggeration was used by Poe to further prove the way the stranger in the new world feels overwhelmed and lost by the sights. Lone waters lone and dead (18) shows an emotion of suffering and a greif of some kind. Poe uses a lot of strong words to create the mood of alone and darkness in the poem. Figurative devices are used in this poem to further develop the tone/mood, the environment /setting and the senses the speaker is feeling in the poem. Poe gives the water an emotion. The sad waters is a personification of the water being sad. This helps further explain the way the speaker is grieving or suffering. Personification is also used when Poe describes the spirits and beings in the poem to be human. This is shown in the lines Where an Eidolon, named NIGHT, on a black throne reigns ... • 11. African American Marginalization Analysis What was the most definitive legislative act of marginalization directed at African Americans prior to 1865? In my view it s clear which legislative act marginalized African Americans the most, and would have to be the implementation of lifelong servitude Virginia enacted in 1661. This legislation would shape this country s use of slave labor and begin the process of marginalizing African Americans. Now there are a number of other terribly oppressive pieces of legislation that would further marginalize African Americans but it seems like this first act was decisive in that it normalized the use of slaves through its ever expanding interpretation. • 12. My Best Day Essay He looked at me and I didn t know what to think, he gave me that look. That look of sudden disappointment, sudden regret. We sat at Blue Eagle Lounge at about 11:00 pm and he peered over my left shoulder. He stared a little longer and then he ran. How? What have I done? Why do I ruin every single good thing in my life? But then I remembered. I have done something terrible. Something that I will never forgive myself for. Earlier that day. The man I had known but never had a conversation with, came over my way. He had on baggy jeans with zippers at the pockets and lace up boots he wore underneath his loosely fitted jeans. He had a t shirt on with a flannel over the top. His brown eyes told a story. He had a voice that gave me a warm tingly feeling when he would simply say my name. He made me happy and I know that this was a real happiness that would last a long time. The freckles on his nose were direct mirrors to all of the stories he had. Stories of trips that made his family stronger and his heart a little bigger. He was tall and had brown hair that was always perfect. He made me smile and I knew he did not feel the same about me. I was falling for him and he wasn t there to catch me when I landed. But there was something fishy about this boy, he had a secret, and I was dying to know what it was. He seemed different when he was with his friends and different when he was with his family and then a little different when he was around me. The boy was the type of person that ... A Modest Proposals By Johnathon Swift The world we live in, especially Europe, has seen and will continue to see many writers who are very critical of their government and its current its economic and political state. None however match up to the critical writing of Johnathon Swift. Swift writes about how the Irish government is in a poor state, both economically and politically. He writes about the povertyrates and how it is affecting woman, especially. Swift goes on to explain how the poverty rate is hurting woman, most of which are mothers with multiple kids who cant afford to feed them all. The fact that we as Americans feel the need to import luxury and bet our families rather than investing and them. What I mean by import luxury is that we don t make anything in our country anymore, everything is imported from Asia (China and Japan mostly). America has a slowly growing poverty rate that can be fixed if people simply invest in their country and love it like they love the stuff we import. If we buy American and buy local in our states and country itself, the economic situation would increase. We could simply lift ourselves out of debt to other countries. America has never related to a more correct and well written Proposal in all of history. Swift says that if you buy and support locally and invest in your family and women rather than gambling them away, often times you do better. This would increase the situation with the people and the government because we as of right now aren t on the same page as our government and we haven t for a very long time. Equiano is one of the most well known slaves who had the opportunity to get educated because he was able live a different lifestyle rather than the one that most slaves experienced. I deeply admire his effort to share his views on slavery because it was during a time when blacks did not have much of a voice in society. One of the reasons why it was very engaging to read this narrative because he informed the reader of the culture in his homeland, which gave me an idea of Equiano s previous life before slavery. • 15. Ignorance And Happiness In Fahrenheit 451 And Pleasantville The world we have, where we live, comprises a vast amount of knowledge. Knowledge refers to awareness or familiarity, obtained through learning, discoveries, or education. When you born, your brain is a blank sheet of paper. As you develop, your mind becomes conscious of facts and fills the clear piece of paper. The writing on the paper is precious; thus the knowledgeis invaluable. Everyone knows knowledge is precious, but have you ever thought: can knowledge make people unhappy, distracted or suspicious? Ignorance is bliss plays a crucial character, contemplating the above question. Ignorance is happiness; a phrase that is strongly interpreted in the book Giver and the supporting films: Fahrenheit 451and Pleasantville. Ignorance is bliss is well explained in the book Giver due to the subsequent explanations. The book Giver illustrates that everybody in the society is peaceful, except Jonas and the Giver. The reason Jonas and Giver are depressed is that they are mindful of all the unpleasant memories that have been given on for years. An additional example that supports the phrase Unawareness is pleasure, is, when Jonas s father goes for the releasing of a child, Jonas uncovers that releasing is death. Before Jonas realized that releasing is death, he agreed on the concept of releasing, but as he determines that releasing means death, that instant he says he killed him, my father killed him, showing a shock, and sadness. The statement, Illiteracy is happiness is correct because the examples illustrate that everyone in the community is fortunate because they are innocent of everything, even colors. They don t even know what is outside the town, so they claim it elsewhere. If people wish to live a pleasant life, they should not be informed of everything The movie Fahrenheit 451 provides a highly circumstantial evidence, for the phrase Ignorance is bliss. The famous quote from the film Fahrenheit 451; If you do not wish a house to set up, hide the nails and woods, meaning no one can build a house without nails and woods. How does this quote justify Ignorance is bliss? The quote states that if societies do not require people to have the intelligence, then all the wisdom bearing materials ... As a child, I remember going to the library and checking out books when I had a paper or project due for class. As I got older the need for finding books or publications for research purposes decreased considerably. As I entered middle school, a class was being taught on computer literacy, and looking back on that class I see how important it was to get started early. I can only recall one time in the last three years where I stepped foot into a public library, and that was to place my vote for the 2016 presidential election. The fact that I can hop on my phone, and search anything I could possibly want to know about, and that information be displayed in a matter of seconds is an amazing and wonderful thing. The downside to the capability of information at your fingertips is that it causes people (including myself) to be lazy. Vocabulary and literacy levels are lower now, because you don t have to read several books to find what you are looking for. I loved reading for pleasure when I was younger, and still do, but that was because I was required to read more to find answers to questions. Siri and Google have almost eliminated the need to do such research. Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Media With the rise of technology came the creation of social media. ... As per Hebda and Czar (2013), the EMR is the building block of the electronic health record (EHR), which can be defined as a longitudinal record that includes client data, demographics, clinician notes, medications, diagnostic findings, and other essential healthcare information (p.293). The widespread use of EHR s in America is foreseeable and inevitably unavoidable, but by no means a simple and undoubtedly an effortless task to achieve. In an attempt to reduce costs in the introduction, conversion, and implementation of patient health records the government has provided regulations for meaningful use (MU) (p.280). The Longman dictionary defines privacy as the state of being able to be alone, not seen or heard by other people, and free from public attention. We may recognize that it is simple to keep privacy; nonetheless, journalists and people don t keep it even through they know that it is important. Furthermore, the tendency that it will be fine even if you do not keep privacy is getting stronger year by year. One of the reasons is because technology is developing rapidly in the world. This evidence is that a lot of people bring with them their smart phones and computers to the evidence of this. Stefano Taddei said, The results suggest practical implications for online social network providers, most of all with regard to privacy policies in online environments (2013). In the future, the providers will develop and affect us positive and negative through using technology. • 22. Global Fiscal And Money Related Framework Essay There is an essential contrariness between the achievement of worldwide monetary strength and having a single national currency play out the part of the world s reserve cash. This is not another disclosure. However, occasions of a previous couple of months have brought this theme over into the spotlight. Born in Belgian, American economist Robert Triffin initially highlighted this contrariness in the 1960s. He watched that having the US dollar play out the part of the world s reserve currency made essential irreconcilable situations amongst national and universal financial and economic goals. From one viewpoint, the global economy required dollars for liquidity purposes and to fulfill interest for save resources/assets. In any case, this constrained, or possibly made it simple, for the US to run reliably massive current account deficits. (CANAVAN). Every global fiscal and money related framework needs to depend on at least one universal currency so as to permit financial specialists to interface in the global economy by utilizing such coinage as a method of payment, a unit of record or a store of significant worth. At the point when these global currencies are additionally local ones, the supply of global liquidity comes from at least one center nations. Scientists at the time had realized that species had evolved from primitive forms, but did not know exactly how this happened. Darwin s studies began while on a ship traveling around the world with the English navy. After exploring the Galapagos islands of the Pacific, Darwin realized that animals adapted to local conditions to change themselves to survive. He also saw that this was not just the case for animals, but humans too. Once Darwin returned from his journey with many new samples of species, he continued his research. He was disheartened once his daughter died, and no longer could believe completely in God. • 32. Examples Of Supernatural Elements In Jane Eyre In addition to introducing the supernatural element of the story, the early chapters serve as a base for Jane s future character and thought process. The way she is treated by Mrs. Reed, the children and the servants influences and shapes the way she treats herself and the world around her throughout the novel. From the very beginning, Jane s rebellious, free mind and her strong sense of justice are undermined the constant self doubt and a tendency to compare herself with others. While she is aware that much of what she suffers is unjustified, the constancy of the abuse over time does largely succeed to crush her sense of righteousness and instil in her the thought that she is only being treated badly because of her character and physical appearance. She constantly compares herself with her cousins, saying that Eliza, who was headstrong and selfish, was respected , and Georgiana, who had a spoiled temper, a very acrid spite, a captious and insolent carriage, was universally indulged , always forgiven because of her beauty, her pink cheeks and golden curls. By using negative words such as headstrong or insolent when she could alternatively describe them as strong willed or independent, Jane leaves no doubt that, if she envies the treatment afforded to her cousins, she does not envy their character. Ever since Bitcoin first began trading, investors as well as miners have proclaimed the positive and negative aspects of the virtual currency, though the fluctuation in price of Bitcoin has been very difficult to determine. This research paper look analyzes some of the issues that must be addressed to ensure the future of Bitcoin. Introduction The first form of cyptocurrency, Bitcoins are the first type of digital currency that is both created and subsequently managed by cryptography, rather than a central authority (Kinsella 2013). The Bitcoin architecture was outlined in a research paper by Satoshi Nakamoto, which led to the creation of a decentralized network, allowing the peer to peer digital currency to be owned and traded (Smith 2013). After several years of development, Bitcoin was launched in 2009, and exists solely within the Block Chain (explained later). Creation of Bitcoins The architecture of Bitcoin utilizes a validation system, based on a sequence of recent transactions and numerical proofs of work, which are passed through an SHA 256 hashing algorithm (twice) (Smith 2013). The result of this is a block , which follows very precise mathematical criteria, and requires an exact numerical to solve. These required numericals are extremely difficult to calculate. • 35. Effects of Social Networking on Undergraduate Student s... Introduction Social networking has made its way into American culture quickly and is more prevalent now than ever before. Many people have different views on the relevance and benefits of social networking, whether they are positive or negative standpoints. Nevertheless, social media and networking is a part of our American lifestyles as a whole. As a Computer Information Systems major and studying the foundations and composition of computer applications, I would like to research the effects that social networks have on underclassmen undergraduate students attending an Historically Black College or University. In order to conduct this research, a study and survey must be held to determine whether social networking positively or negatively affects grade point averages by recording the number of social networks students are actively using and the number of hours spent on these applications in comparison to grade point averages. This research is important because there are many individuals who do not know the effects of their social networking, or lack thereof, has on their grades, sleeping patterns, health, and lifestyles in general. Although this research will focus on grade point averages of students, it will also determine if social networking has effects on other aspects of the college life such as sleeping patterns, health, and awareness. Purpose of Study Individuals should understand that the use or nonuse of social media has negative and positive effects on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Concept Of The Prokaryote Valid And Useful Or... Is the concept of the prokaryote valid and useful or fundamentally flawed? The term prokaryote was coined in 1925 by Г‰douard Chatton in his 1925 paper Pansporella perplex: Reflections on the Biology and Phylogeny of the Protozoa. (Chatton, 1925). Since then the term, when paired with its dichotomous counterpart eukaryote , has formed the fundamental basis for classification in biology. However in recent years the concept of the prokaryote has been wildly contested as being inaccurate (amongst other things), and the dichotomy of eukaryote/prokaryote based on a misleading and ultimately incorrect distinction that is phylogenetically contestable. This essay will examine the validity and usefulness of the concept of the prokaryote, as well as evaluate why the term or even the abolition of the term may be important in different contexts. The definition of a prokaryote is simply a single celled organism with no nuclear membrane and consequently no membrane bound organelles. It is therefore logical to assume that one would find a nucleus and membrane bound organelles in a eukaryotic cell. Although the expression is widely accepted by myriad biologists and microbiologists alike and has been since the birth of the term, the word has come under much scrutiny due to its negative definition; as in prokaryote describes that the cell is lacking characteristic eukaryotic features rather than being defined in its own terms (Woese, 1994; Pace, 2006). • 38. Water Pollution And Its Effects On Aquatic Life Water Pollution and its Effects on Aquatic Life Charles Darwin, the father of evolutionary biology, states in his theory of evolution that only organisms better fit to survive in their environment will survive. Based on his theory and research, it can be concluded that challenges to the environment directly affect the organisms. Research shows that in particular water pollution; hospital wastewater and sewage wastewater, is shown to cause antibiotic resistant microorganisms, excess nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus as well as heavy metals that harm the aquatic life present in the body of water. Antibiotic resistant microorganisms refer to organisms that cannot be killed by antibiotics such as penicillin or ampicillin. The heavy metals referred to are, mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), thallium (Tl), and lead (Pb); these metals mainly impact fish. As mentioned above one of the key sources of water pollution is hospital wastewater. It has been reported that local wastewater treatment plants are unequipped to treat the wastewater completely (Nielsen) and therefore hazardous to the environment. Part of the hospital wastewater are antibiotics that come out in active form because it has not been completely metabolized. (Ahmad, M., et al.). This means that the antibiotics have not been completely broken down and can still kill bacteria present in the water body. The presence of antibiotics would not be a critical issue if it was simply killing off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Huckleberry Finn The theme of Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn is that the ideas of society can greatly influence the individual, and sometimes the individual must break off from the accepted values of society to determine the ultimate truth for himself. In Huckleberry Finn s world, society has corrupted justice and moralityto fit the needs of the people of the nation at that time. Basically, Americans were justifying slavery, through whatever social or religious ways that they deemed necessary during this time. Huckleberry Finn recognizes Jim as a human being, but is fighting the beliefs bestowed upon him by a society that believes slaves should not be free. However, it is important to realize that although Huckleberry Finn s decisions create the conflict between society and himself (and that this conflict forms the theme of the novel), Huck is oblivious to the justice, the righteousness, and even the heroism of his own actions, they are simply in accordance with his own conscience. The climax comes in chapter thirty one of the novel, when Huckleberry Finn s moral development reaches its peak. Up until this point in the novel, Huckleberry Finn has been experiencing internal conflict concerning his treatment of Jim. Society has brought him up to believe that Jim is nothing but property, rightfully belonging to Miss Watson, and so Huck would be wrong in helping Jim flee. At the same time, however, his experiences with Jim, and his own personal instinctsabout the situation tell him that he is doing the right thing. Huck feels terrible because he cannot please both voices of his conscience. Huckleberry Finn feels as though society is right, and he is wrong. Drink and the devil had done for the rest yo ho ho, and a bottle of rum! This is what the former sea captain, Billy Bones, warbled while drunk on rum in the novel Treasure Island. In Treasure Island a young boy and some pirates go hunting for a dead man s buried treasure, and they basically come up empty handed in the end, even after killing others to find it. Based on the pirates actions, attitudes, and greediness in Treasure Island as well as in the real world, Stevenson is trying to indicate the futility of desire. The pirates actions majorly portray the ineffectiveness of want. In the novel it explains As for Ben Gunn, he got ВЈ1,000, which he spent or lost in three weeks, or, to be more exact, in nineteen days, for he was back begging on the twentieth. • 46. Bourgeoise In The Communist Manifesto The Communist Manifesto first came about as a result of the economic and political chaos. Within the document, it distinguishes the class stratification and the struggles within. Also within the Communist Manifesto, it was clear that the production of development involving the lower class (proletariat) and the middle class (bourgeoise) was its clear focus. The document then discusses the class struggles of both the proletariat and the bourgeoise, and soon shows how one class over powers the other. This would soon develop a new form of freedom for the rest of the society. The basic argument of the Communist Manifesto is the struggles within the classes. The bourgeoise was commonly known as the property owners and the proletariat was commonly known as the workers. The class struggle begins with the bourgeoisies. The bourgeoisies society was created from the ruins of the feudal society, they had the advantage of not only progression of industrial commerce, but they also had the advantage of convenient transportation. Offred s character revealed an interesting part of the human situation, and that is that we possess a desire for some sense of stability and comfort in our situation regardless of if it is a large amount or small. In the midst of Offred s unfortunate situation it becomes evident that her transition from her previous life to her current situation has included a loss of freedom and power. Her lack of control and her awareness of it is evident, and we see that her response to this is striving to find control, power, and stability in anything that she can. The reader gets a glimpse of this when Offred admits to feeling empowered by acquiring the sympathy of the commander and taunting the guards with her hips; she also finds comfort and a sense of stability in her relationship with Nick. Offred s behavior reveals an intimate human quality and that is the desire to have a form of control over our lives and decisions, even when that is not necessarily the case. For example if a child has to go stay two weeks in Wisconsin with family members they do not like and they don t have a choice. The child would be upset, but a way to ease the anger would be to give them the opportunity to choose their form of transportation train, plane, car, etc. This makes them feel a little better because they are getting to control something, yet it doesn t change the fact that they are still required to go to Wisconsin and they have no control in that. Sometimes when we are faced with a situation where we really have no choice, if we can find a way to trick ourselves into thinking we do have a choice our situation becomes more bearable. Theme Of Vittorio De Sica Vittorio De Sica is considered one of the most important directors during the time of the Italian Neorealism movement which occurred after the fall of fascism in Italy. Neorealism revolves around realistic filmmaking. Rather than produce glossy films to heal the heartbreak in this post war country, De Sica and several other directors focused on the working class and how fatal the blow of fascism was. It was an artistic response to an abundance of commercial entertainment films spewing from Hollywood. Although it was beautiful it was much more than a piece of art, it was revolutionary. These films offered not the escape that many Italians desired at the time but instead held a mirror up to the general public. It showed that if the public cares about one family s story on screen every family s story matters, a crucial point to make after years of a dictatorship that told them the opposite. Western Australia first released a Salinity Action plan in 1996 which detailed the joint task between all stake holders including the government, farmers and the wider community, to limit the progression of secondary salinity, recover and treat salt affected land and protect native biodiversity, water quality and infrastructure (Water and Rivers Commission, 2000). However, simply replanting perennials falls short of correcting secondary salinity as by the time land has been identified as having high saline levels it takes decades or even centuries to establish mature deep rooted perennials (Parliament of Australia, 2012). Gay people and gay supporters believe that they should be treated equally to marry whoever they want because it is how they feel and people should be understanding of that. On the other hand, Christians believe that they should not have the right to marry the same sex because it is an attack on the church and degrades the traditional concept of marriage. Due to Christians not believing in same sex marriage, they worry that now it is legal that they will be forced to accept it and preachers and pastors will be forced to marry gay couples. There are many standing viewpoints on the matter and these two points of view say the most. Does same sex marriage effect religion or not? Traditionalist who are against gay marriage believe that the dignity of marriage is being compromised. James Heiser says that it is against religious teachings and that it weakens the traditional concept of marriage. They argue that the awe, wonder, and dignity of marriage needs to be recaptured and that this is an assault on the family.
