Welcome to a delightfully different, non-religious, introduction to the basics of Meditation, its advantages, whether you are in search of some earthly purpose, like Stress Management, better health etc. or, interested in getting initiated to the spiritual world. You will have some idea, your interest would get generated, and you would take the initiative to seek more information and guidance.
Scientific research in recent times has shown that the physiological, psychological and biochemical effects of yoga and meditation are of an anti-stress nature. Streeter et al suggested that yoga-based practices i) correct under activity of the parasympathetic nervous system and GABA systems in part through stimulation of the vagus nerves, the main peripheral pathway of the parasympathetic nervous system, and ii) reduce allostatic load. Other RCTs have suggested that these practices act on hypothalamic– pituitary–adrenal axis (HPA) axis to reduce cortisol levels, and reduce sympathetic tone while increasing vagal activity. This suggest great therapeutic potential as an add-on adjunct to conventional therapies in prevention, management and rehabilitation of psychosomatic conditions such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, bronchial asthma, musculoskeletal disorders, depression, anxiety, cancer and de-addiction programmes and post-traumatic stress disorders.
According to a recent mini-review by Innes & Selfe (Frontiers in Psychiatry2014): Meditation reduces perceived stress, anxiety and depressive symptoms, enhances quality of life, decreases sleep disturbance, improves several domains of cognition, reduces sympathetic activation and enhances cardio-vagal tone, both acutely and long term in clinical as well as non-clinical populations. Meditation promotes beneficial changes in CNS dopaminergic and other neurochemical systems, increases blood flow, O2 delivery, and glucose utilization in specific regions of the brain associated with mood elevation, memory, and attentional processing, including the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, and anterior cingulate gyrus. Long-term meditation practice is associated with cortical thickening & increased gray matter volume in brain regions involved in attentional performance, sensory processing & intero-ception apparently offsetting typical age-related cortical thinning and gray matter loss. Meditation programs can enhance immune response and clinical outcomes, reduce BP, insulin resistance and glucose intolerance, oxidative stress, inflammation and other related risk indices.

Mudra means “gesture or attitude”
A mudra may involve the whole body in a combination of asana, pranayama, bandha and visualization technique.
Define as “ Mudam anandam dadati iti mudra” means the actions that gives us pleasure, bliss is called mudra.
Mudra denotes the sense of evoking a hidden power or uniting with something large.
In hatha yoga, mudras are used in conjunction with pranayama (yogic breathing exercises), generally while in a seated posture, to stimulate different parts of the body involved with breathing and to affect the flow of prana, bindu, boddhicitta, amrita or consciousness in the body.
Yoga is a ancient system of physical and mental training. Traditionally, yoga was developed as a way of life to prepare the mind and body for enlightenment. Today, we practice yoga to build strength and flexibility, to learn to control our breathing, and to enhance our ability to concentrate.

Dr.Nutan Pakhare at UGC,HRD Yoga training-Mumbai university -14 Dec 2018Dr.Nutan Pakhare
Dr.Nutan Pakhare invited to talk on Integrative approach for Healthy Mind & Body at Mumbai University.
Participant was professors & faculties from various colleges from all over Mumbai.
History of YOGA:
Yoga began as an ancient practice that originated in India nearly 3000 B.C. Stone-carved figures of yoga posture found in the Indus Valley which depicting the original poses and practices. oga was developed as a way to achieve harmony between the heart and soul on the path to divine enlightenment. Along the way, it was discovered that yoga has a practical benefit of curing many diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure, and alleviating physical injuries and chronic pains.
What is meditation?
Meditation involves concentration and relaxation – both of which are enhanced by yoga. Just as there are many styles of yoga, so too are there a variety of ways to meditate. The first stage of meditation is to find a focal point or method of focusing in order to free oneself from distractions.
Introduction: Charles Warner wittily said, “Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.” In modern times, we all seem to talk so much about Yoga, but don’t do anything about experiencing it! “Atha yoganushasanam” says Maharishi Patanjali in his very first verse implying that Yoga is something to be experienced through mindfulness. We can never really ‘do’ Yoga, but we can prepare ourselves for the ‘experience’ of Yoga. Yoga is an experiential science, and Vairagya the key to develop objectivity towards subjective experiences obtained through Abhyasa.
Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga: We can experience states of expanded consciousness through Hatha and Jnana Yoga relaxation techniques as codified by Yogamaharishi Dr Swami Gitananda Giri in the tradition of Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga. This is now popularly known as Gitananda Yoga in tribute to this great master who played a significant role in bridging modern science and spirituality. This wholesome system focuses on Yoga as a “Way of life” encompassing cultivation of wholesome lifestyle, adoption of health promoting diet, development of unbiased attitudes with bountiful practices for positive health.
Four-fold relaxation: A systematic and conscious adoption of attitudes results in deep experiential states of relaxation.
1. Letting go: We need to let go of our prejudices and preconceived notions.
2. Giving up: We must develop a firm desire to give up our stresses. This does not mean defeat, but is to throw off any tensions that turn us into a smoking volcano. This is a positive, relaxing and evolutionary process.
3. Giving in: A positive process of opening up to dictates of Higher Consciousness.
4. Giving over: The highest stage of relaxation where control of mind is given over to the Self. One thus merges into beautiful super-conscious states indescribable in words.
Conclusion: Swamiji taught us that ‘we’ are the source of our problems. If we are to solve them, we need to change our attitude. An egocentric perspective will never be able to change anything as all the ego wants to do is survive at any cost (Abhinivesha). The Yoga Dristi (perspective) offers a more elevated and conscious perspective of life that enables us to convert our seemingly insurmountable problems into mere molehills.
Welcome to the realm of Infinite Possibilities.
The Purpose & Philosophy:
“To provide the Pure energy awareness that helps to transform people to new levels of consciousness & Spiritual enlightenment.”
The ancient Indian culture that is a vibrant living culture to this day has a lot to offer us in every sphere of life. The spiritual, psychological and metaphysical concepts of the great Maharishis hold true even today and it is up to us to delve into them and reap the extraordinary benefits of psycho-physiological health, happiness as well as personal and social harmony. The Rishis were visionary seers who codified innumerable concepts that may be used to produce physically, emotionally and mentally healthy individuals who would be of value for the betterment of society at large. This paper takes a look at some of these concepts culled from our ancients that would be of great value to the development of the concepts of school psychology
The Indian culture is based on the understanding that each individual has different inherent potentialities that need to be cultivated for their ultimate manifest expression. This is found in both the educational and well as health systems as evidenced through the Shat Darshanas and the Chikitsa methods of Yoga and Ayurveda. There is no, “One size fits all” in the Indian approach to either education or health care.
Children are the future and it is important to help them manifest their inherent potential in a positive manner. In the Tamil language it is often said, “vilayum payir mulayileye theriyum” meaning thereby that the potential of the tree is seen in the tender shoots themselves. The educational process must create an environment in which the learning process blossoms from within by creating an environment furthering the positive educement of healthy values and character.
The Indian system of education was centered around the Guru Kula that literally means the, “Womb of the Master”. This was a mentor centric process similar to that seen in higher education with possibilities of one-to-one interaction on a regular basis. It was a 24-hour relationship based learning process where the Guru or mentor and the student lived in the same environment facilitating interaction at multiple levels that were not limited by time or place.
This was based on the principle of stimulating a yearning for the higher concepts of being, while learning the norms of natural living. The students developed themselves physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually during this period of intense study at the feet of the Master.

Mediation for the Modern Life Somewhere in Silicon Valley, a group of computer programmers sit silently in a room together, legs crossed and eyes half-closed, listening to the sound of their own breath. Elsewhere, the owner of a small real estate company starts her day by breathing deeply and engaging in yoga poses. Still, elsewhere, a data entry specialist finishes his turkey sandwich and returns to his cubicle, puts on his headphones, and breathes deeply while listening to the sounds of bells and waterfalls.
Meditation looks different for different people, but one thing is for sure: it is quickly gaining popularity in Western culture. It has many professional and personal benefits including increased productivity, reduction of stress and depression, and reduction of troubling physical symptoms such as headaches and muscle tension, to name a few.

Bhavanani AB. Introducing integral Yoga psychology in the teacher education curriculum. Journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology 2006; 32 (No.2) Special Issue: 204-13.
In this article, Yogacharya Ananda Bhavanani explains that meditation is a way of uniting with our supreme nature and may be described as fixing the mind on the Supreme with devotion and discipline. As we know, dhyana or meditation is the seventh of the eight steps in the Ashtanga Yoga of Patanjali and is part of the antaranga or inner steps of Yoga, the path leading to Self-realization. Yogacharya offers an overview of meditation and suggests some aids to meditation including the use of mudras and tratak, or yogic gazing.

Vipassana, which means 'insight' in the Pali language, is a type of meditation that is meant to help practitioners gain a clear understanding of the true nature of reality. The goal of Vipassana meditation is to see things as they really are, rather than seeing them through the lens of our own personal biases and assumptions. In order to do this, Vipassana meditators use the technique of mindfulness, which involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment. This allows practitioners to develop a more objective perspective on their thoughts and experiences.
Yogamaharishi Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri Guru Maharaj is truly one of the most astounding human beings to have graced this planet in the last century. His contribution to the growth and development of Yoga in modern times is significant and it reenergised the true spirit of Yoga worldwide.
This book lovingly compiled by one of his dear students, Yogacharya Dr. Alan Davis of the UK, enables the reader to understand the grand unified perspective, the “Yoga Dristhi” of the Yoga Maharishi that may be best defined in Pujya Swamiji’s own words thus :
“Yoga Dristhi implies a Unified Perception which encompasses all aspects of evolutionary life on this planet, and not just perceptions based on information fed to us through our sensual organs… Perception also involves right knowledge, intuitive insight and proper judgement to qualify under Yoga Dristhi.”
May this book stimulate us all to delve deeper in to our Yoga Sadhana thus enabling us to grow and glow with the true eternal spirit of Yoga, the Mother of all Sciences.

Antibiotic Stewardship by Anushri Srivastava.pptxAnushriSrivastav
Stewardship is the act of taking good care of something.
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
WHO launched the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) in 2015 to fill knowledge gaps and inform strategies at all levels.
ACCORDING TO apic.org,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
ACCORDING TO pewtrusts.org,
Antibiotic stewardship refers to efforts in doctors’ offices, hospitals, long term care facilities, and other health care settings to ensure that antibiotics are used only when necessary and appropriate
According to WHO,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a systematic approach to educate and support health care professionals to follow evidence-based guidelines for prescribing and administering antimicrobials
In 1996, John McGowan and Dale Gerding first applied the term antimicrobial stewardship, where they suggested a causal association between antimicrobial agent use and resistance. They also focused on the urgency of large-scale controlled trials of antimicrobial-use regulation employing sophisticated epidemiologic methods, molecular typing, and precise resistance mechanism analysis.
Antimicrobial Stewardship(AMS) refers to the optimal selection, dosing, and duration of antimicrobial treatment resulting in the best clinical outcome with minimal side effects to the patients and minimal impact on subsequent resistance.
According to the 2019 report, in the US, more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur each year, and more than 35000 people die. In addition to this, it also mentioned that 223,900 cases of Clostridoides difficile occurred in 2017, of which 12800 people died. The report did not include viruses or parasites

Telehealth Psychology Building Trust with Clients.pptxThe Harvest Clinic
Telehealth psychology is a digital approach that offers psychological services and mental health care to clients remotely, using technologies like video conferencing, phone calls, text messaging, and mobile apps for communication.
Defecation
Normal defecation begins with movement in the left colon, moving stool toward the anus. When stool reaches the rectum, the distention causes relaxation of the internal sphincter and an awareness of the need to defecate. At the time of defecation, the external sphincter relaxes, and abdominal muscles contract, increasing intrarectal pressure and forcing the stool out
The Valsalva maneuver exerts pressure to expel faeces through a voluntary contraction of the abdominal muscles while maintaining forced expiration against a closed airway. Patients with cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, increased intracranial pressure, or a new surgical wound are at greater risk for cardiac dysrhythmias and elevated blood pressure with the Valsalva maneuver and need to avoid straining to pass the stool.
Normal defecation is painless, resulting in passage of soft, formed stool
CONSTIPATION
Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. Improper diet, reduced fluid intake, lack of exercise, and certain medications can cause constipation. For example, patients receiving opiates for pain after surgery often require a stool softener or laxative to prevent constipation. The signs of constipation include infrequent bowel movements (less than every 3 days), difficulty passing stools, excessive straining, inability to defecate at will, and hard feaces
IMPACTION
Fecal impaction results from unrelieved constipation. It is a collection of hardened feces wedged in the rectum that a person cannot expel. In cases of severe impaction the mass extends up into the sigmoid colon.
DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is an increase in the number of stools and the passage of liquid, unformed feces. It is associated with disorders affecting digestion, absorption, and secretion in the GI tract. Intestinal contents pass through the small and large intestine too quickly to allow for the usual absorption of fluid and nutrients. Irritation within the colon results in increased mucus secretion. As a result, feces become watery, and the patient is unable to control the urge to defecate. Normally an anal bag is safe and effective in long-term treatment of patients with fecal incontinence at home, in hospice, or in the hospital. Fecal incontinence is expensive and a potentially dangerous condition in terms of contamination and risk of skin ulceration
HEMORRHOIDS

Medical Technology Tackles New Health Care Demand - Research Report - March 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) predicts that with, against, despite, and even without the global pandemic, the medical technology (MedTech) industry shows signs of continuous healthy growth, driven by smaller, faster, and cheaper devices, growing demand for home-based applications, technological innovation, strategic acquisitions, investments, and SPAC listings. MCG predicts that this should reflects itself in annual growth of over 6%, well beyond 2028.
According to Chris Mouchabhani, Managing Partner at M Capital Group, “Despite all economic scenarios that one may consider, beyond overall economic shocks, medical technology should remain one of the most promising and robust sectors over the short to medium term and well beyond 2028.”
There is a movement towards home-based care for the elderly, next generation scanning and MRI devices, wearable technology, artificial intelligence incorporation, and online connectivity. Experts also see a focus on predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory, and precision medicine, with rising levels of integration of home care and technological innovation.
The average cost of treatment has been rising across the board, creating additional financial burdens to governments, healthcare providers and insurance companies. According to MCG, cost-per-inpatient-stay in the United States alone rose on average annually by over 13% between 2014 to 2021, leading MedTech to focus research efforts on optimized medical equipment at lower price points, whilst emphasizing portability and ease of use. Namely, 46% of the 1,008 medical technology companies in the 2021 MedTech Innovator (“MTI”) database are focusing on prevention, wellness, detection, or diagnosis, signaling a clear push for preventive care to also tackle costs.
In addition, there has also been a lasting impact on consumer and medical demand for home care, supported by the pandemic. Lockdowns, closure of care facilities, and healthcare systems subjected to capacity pressure, accelerated demand away from traditional inpatient care. Now, outpatient care solutions are driving industry production, with nearly 70% of recent diagnostics start-up companies producing products in areas such as ambulatory clinics, at-home care, and self-administered diagnostics.
Global launch of the Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index 2nd wave – alongside...ILC- UK
The Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index is an online tool created by ILC that ranks countries on six metrics including, life span, health span, work span, income, environmental performance, and happiness. 1. From the Founder's Desk Vol:VIII No: 2 May 2017
Dear Friends,
Last month, I got the opportunity to
participate in a unique program ” BUDDHA
CEO” organized by Pyramid Valley
International held on 22nd and 23rd April
2017 at their premises. The program was
conducted by Brahmarshi Subhash Patriji himself. The
other speakers were Dr. Newton Kondaveti and Dr. Lakshmi,
Founders of Life Research Academy and Dr. B K Chandra
Shekhar of SIGFA Solutions.
The target group for the program included CEOs of
Companies, Business Leaders, Heads of Organizations
involved in Social Work, Heads of NGOs, Heads of
Government Organizations and Departments and all others in
similar positions. The workshop was aimed to empower
CEOs with spiritual confidence, spiritual service mind-set and
a general spirituo-scientific attitude required to be successful
in whatever new creative tasks they aspire to take up. In simple
terms, the workshop was meant for awakening the Buddha
within us.
Meditation was also part of the workshop. AnaPanaSati
Meditation was conducted by Brahmarshi Patriji. The word
‘Anapanasati’ in Pali language means to direct one’s total
attention and awareness only on one’s normal, natural
breathing process. ‘ana’ means ‘in-breath’, ‘apana’ means ‘out-
breath’ and ‘sati’ means ‘be-one-with’. In ‘Anapanasati’,
attention of the mind should constantly be on the normal,
natural breath. The task on hand is effortless, joyful oneness
with the breath.
No ‘mantra’ is to be chanted, no form of any ‘deity’ is to be
entertained in the mind, no hatha yoga or pranayama practices
like ‘kumbhaka’ - holding the breath - is involved.
Any comfortable sitting posture can be taken. The posture
should be as comfortable as possible. Hands should be clasped
and all fingers intertwined; eyes should be closed.
The crux of the matter is to resist, to the best of our abilities,
the routine wandering of the mind. All STRAY THOUGHTS
SHOULD BE CUT right away, as and when they keep arising.
“When we are with the breath-energy, the mind becomes
rather empty. Then, there is a tremendous in-flow of cosmic
energy into the physical body. Gradually, the hitherto dormant
third-eye begin to become activated. And, by and by, cosmic
consciousness get to be experienced.” Meditation leads us
to MINDFULNESS for material progress and
MINDFREENESS for Spiritual Progress.
Guided Meditation in the presence of Brahmarshi Patriji was
an amazing experience. In simple words, it was just watching
our own breathing. Poojya Swami Dayananda Saraswathi
used to call this as “Prana Vikshana” - watching our own
breath. It brings us to the present moment and energizes us.
Breathing is such a powerful tool. It is the MOST
IMPORTANT thing in life. If you have any other priorities, just
stop breathing for a few seconds and see what happens -
definitely you will agree with me then.
In this issue, we have covered an article on “Healing through
Breathing” which deals with the powerful technique of
breathing - popularly known as “Three Step Rhythmic
Breathing”.
We have also covered an article on “Healing with Colours”.
Hope you will find them interesting.
