Smt. Vasundhara Doreswamy on 19th
Oct 2017 at Jaganmohan Palace for the
“Vishwamata Gaumata” event. The
organizer Shri Devababa through his Shaktidarshana
Yogashrama has a lifetime mission of spreading
awareness of indigenous breed of cattle throughout
India. I was so impressed by his talk that I would like to

Cows are making headlines regularly these days. Without
getting into the politics of the matter, let us go into the
details of the Indian cow. Traditionally, we Indians have
heldthecowsacredanditsproductsexalted.
Cows are held sacred by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and
Zoroastrians. Ancient Egypt, Greece, Israel, Rome and
Germany too held similar beliefs. Cow is the national
animalof Nepal.
From the Founder's Desk Vol:VIII No:6 December 2017
In Indian society, cow is a symbol of its culture and civilization.
We believe that the cow is the abode of 33 crore Gods. I
personally think that we worship cows because of their innate
qualities.
Cow has been the pillar of support for Indian families and the
Indian agricultural system ever since the dawn of ancient Hindu
civilization. Apart from the extensively used cow’s milk which
our ancestors used to collect only after the calf has had its share,
the most important use of cows was in agriculture. Cow’s urine
was used as a natural pesticide, and cow’s manure was a natural
fertilizer. This ensured that our forefathers did not need any
artificial pesticides or artificial fertilizers, both of which are
extremely harmful for the farm soil and degrade the soil quality
over time. For Mahatma Gandhi too, cow protection was a
symbolofanimalrightsandofnon‐violenceagainstalllifeforms.
On this note, I feel it is our responsibility to join hands with Sri
Dev Baba in his mission. I believe that by protecting desi cows,
weareprotectingourhealth,wealthandtradition.
We have covered an article in this issue on Cow and its Products.

In Sanskrit, cows are called “Gau”. Our ancient texts say that
Govinda (Lord Krishna) is the protector of cows. It is an
abiding belief that 33 crore different vibrations are necessary
for sustenance of different types of lives on earth. Gau is the
abode of these vibrations in the form of 33 crore angels.
Cow's milk is next only to mother's milk and is called Nectar
onEarth.
Indian cows have A2 protein in their milk. Over 100
independent studies have been published on the benefits of
A2 milk. The National Bureau of Animal Genetic Research has
demonstrated the superior milk quality of Indian cattle
breeds. Curtin University of Australia found consumers of A1
milk at a greater risk of serious non‐communicable diseases.
À2 milk contains ingredients that enhance brain power and
immunity. The book "Devil in the Milk" on A1 milk by author
Keith Woodford is a compelling thesis on the subject. A2 milk
is now marketed in the U.S. among other countries. Amul is
nowintotheA2milkmarket.

multiple diseases and in controlling cholesterol. Curd brings
relief to diarrhea and dysentery.
GoMutra (urine) has essential minerals and vitamins and
medicinal, anti‐toxic, anti‐septic and anti‐biotic properties. It is
used in Vaastu shastra for purification purposes.
Go maya (dung) contains vitamin B‐12, is a disinfectant and
improves cell permeability and is a geopathic stress buster.
Cowpathy refers to treatment using cow products and offers
healing service to a wide range of human ailments ranging from
common cold to cancer. Cowpathy is based on the ancient

five elements obtained from the cow give long life, purify
blood and cure all diseases and detoxify the body. Cowpathy
can be seen in practice as cow urine therapyand panchagavya
therapy, the former making use of distilled urine of the cow
and the latter using panchagavya for healing purpose. Many
Universities and Research Institutes of repute have initiated

application, oral intake of panchagavya ghrita ‐ formulation
ofpanchagavyainghee.
Scientific Research: Centre for Rural Development, IIT Delhi
has received around 50 proposals from top research
institutions including CSIR to explore benefits of panchgavya.
December 2016 saw a national level workshop to deliberate
on Scientific Validation and Research on Panchagavya
(SVAROP) use of panchagavya in areas such as agriculture,
medicine, nutrition, and in developing soaps and mosquito
repellents. Proposal for a Gau Vigyan university that
undertakes researching anti‐cancer properties of cow urine,
an excellent vitalizer, is under consideration. Panchagavya is
endorsed by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic
SciencesoftheCentralGovernment.US&Chinagovernments
have awarded Go Vigyan patents for research on cow urine as
medicine for humans. Cow urine therapy has been granted a
US patent in the field of cancer treatment. Further case
studies of successful use of Go‐muthra Ark or Kamadhenu Ark
areavailable.
Cow‐based Ecosystem: Use of Cow dung can save millions of
tons of firewood. Organic pesticides / insecticides/ fungicides
called Agnihastra are developed from cowdung. A cow‐based
insect controller is completely natural & organic in nature. It is
cost‐effective, natural & organic, non‐hazardous and eco‐
friendly. Cow dung compost is used to enhance natural health
of soil and promote natural growth of essential microbes.
Dung can be used in gobar gas plants to produce energy as in
Biogas.Cowdungcakesreduceeffectsofradiation.GoVigyan
have developed Amrit Pani with cow dung, cow urine &
health and is safe for environment. Vermi‐compost, is
produced by mixing cow dung, cow urine & farm waste in the
trench and letting earthworms feed on it. It has zero input cost
and restores the soil balance. Farmers can sell cow urine to
Ayurvedic companies to prepare medicines. Mosquito
repellents are produced with cow urine. Tooth powder, soaps,
shampoos, hair oil, massage oil, after‐shave lotions, creams,
incense, phenyl, cosmetics, hand wash are some of the other
cowproducts.
Farming: Oxen of Indian breed have high working capacity for
longer hours in all climatic conditions. Cow‐based organic
farming maintains ecological balance, fertility of soil increases

Medicines from cow‐based products (like Gau‐Arka ‐ distilled
cow urine) are excellent alternatives to costly chemical‐based
products. Gau‐Arka purges out toxins from the body, reduces
body fat and lowers cholesterol and builds up immunity. Other
medicinesforbloodpurification,digestion,painreductionand
ahostofdisordersandailmentsarepopular.
Corporates in Gau Products: A number of startups like
A2Naturals.in and Calves and Leaves are doing good business
in traditional cow products like vedic ark, gonyle disinfectant,
panchagavya soap, kayakalp oil, vedic nasal drops and vedic
joint‐painbalm.
Conclusion: At the time of independence, India had 111
varieties of indigenous cows. Today, there are just 37 left. As
per government census, the population of the Indian cow has
declinedfrom19lakh(1997)to12.8lakh(2007),puttingitinto
the vulnerable species category as per IUCN standards.
Estimates by some organizations show that in 10 years, India
willhavenomoredesicowsleft.
We believe the traditional Indian cow is the foundation of our
civilization and is vital to our very existence. Let's engage
ourselves wholeheartedly in protecting our cows. Our cows
aresymbolsofabundance,charityandgenerosity.
So let us do our bit to protect our cow. Having cow's milk in
itself is a service of Gomata. It is so because using its milk
encourages cow rearing. If the heavens were to bestow a gift
for the welfare of humankind, including good health and
wellbeing, the Indian desi cow would be it. She is the giver of
healthy milk, the sustainer of agriculture, and the backbone of
ournationaleconomy.

Aquatic Therapy
ICEBAT India had organised an International conference
on evidence‐based Aquatic Therapy on 10,11 & 12th
November 2017 at Radisson Blue, Mysore. Mr. C G
Prashanth, Associate Professor at SDM College of
Physiotherapy, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health
Sciences, India and his team played a key role in
organisingthiseventsuccessfully.
Many International Speakers like Eadric Bressel of Utah

Sheeba Medical Center in Israel participated in the
conference.
Aquatic therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy.
For years, therapists have realized positive results when
applying this water modality to a variety of patient
populations. Water has been, and still remains, the best
environment to achieve full function regardless of the
injury. Water improves motion and flexibility. The
warmth of the water (94°F) and its massaging effects
allow muscles to relax while helping to reduce pain. The
natural buoyancy reduces gravitational pull and lessens
compressive forces, hence making exercises much easier
to perform than on land. Best of all, aquatic therapy can
beusedevenifapatientdoesnotknowhowtoswim.
BenefitsofAquaticTherapy
Warm water facilitates muscle relaxation and
increasesperipheralcirculation.
Viscosity of water provides resistance for strength
training.
Warm water stimulates body awareness, balance, and
trunkstability.
The reduction of gravitational forces in the pool allows
the patient to stand and begin gait training and
strengthening exercises without causing further
damagetohealingstructures.
Warm water and buoyancy results in decreased pain
sensitivity.
Improvement of patient morale and confidence can be

  • 1. Dear Friends, I had the proud privilege of sharing the stagewithJagadguruSriJSSSwamijiand Smt. Vasundhara Doreswamy on 19th Oct 2017 at Jaganmohan Palace for the “Vishwamata Gaumata” event. The organizer Shri Devababa through his Shaktidarshana Yogashrama has a lifetime mission of spreading awareness of indigenous breed of cattle throughout India. I was so impressed by his talk that I would like to sharesomeinterestingfactsonourIndiancowswithyou. Cows are making headlines regularly these days. Without getting into the politics of the matter, let us go into the details of the Indian cow. Traditionally, we Indians have heldthecowsacredanditsproductsexalted. Cows are held sacred by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians. Ancient Egypt, Greece, Israel, Rome and Germany too held similar beliefs. Cow is the national animalof Nepal. From the Founder's Desk Vol:VIII No:6 December 2017 In Indian society, cow is a symbol of its culture and civilization. We believe that the cow is the abode of 33 crore Gods. I personally think that we worship cows because of their innate qualities. Cow has been the pillar of support for Indian families and the Indian agricultural system ever since the dawn of ancient Hindu civilization. Apart from the extensively used cow’s milk which our ancestors used to collect only after the calf has had its share, the most important use of cows was in agriculture. Cow’s urine was used as a natural pesticide, and cow’s manure was a natural fertilizer. This ensured that our forefathers did not need any artificial pesticides or artificial fertilizers, both of which are extremely harmful for the farm soil and degrade the soil quality over time. For Mahatma Gandhi too, cow protection was a symbolofanimalrightsandofnon‐violenceagainstalllifeforms. On this note, I feel it is our responsibility to join hands with Sri Dev Baba in his mission. I believe that by protecting desi cows, weareprotectingourhealth, wealthandtradition. We have covered an article in this issue on Cow and its Products. WealsohaveasmallnoteonAquaticTherapy. Hopeyouwillfindthisissueinteresting. B.R.Pai
  • 2. 2 In Sanskrit, cows are called “Gau”. Our ancient texts say that Govinda (Lord Krishna) is the protector of cows. It is an abiding belief that 33 crore different vibrations are necessary for sustenance of different types of lives on earth. Gau is the abode of these vibrations in the form of 33 crore angels. Cow's milk is next only to mother's milk and is called Nectar onEarth. Indian cows have A2 protein in their milk. Over 100 independent studies have been published on the benefits of A2 milk. The National Bureau of Animal Genetic Research has demonstrated the superior milk quality of Indian cattle breeds. Curtin University of Australia found consumers of A1 milk at a greater risk of serious non‐communicable diseases. À2 milk contains ingredients that enhance brain power and immunity. The book "Devil in the Milk" on A1 milk by author Keith Woodford is a compelling thesis on the subject. A2 milk is now marketed in the U.S. among other countries. Amul is nowintotheA2milkmarket. Ghee provides ojus, helps in increasing memory and is beneficial for eyes, provides pure fatty acids, increases good HDL cholesterol, stimulatesdigestion, improvesimmunity. Curd and yellow milk are good probiotics and help in curing multiple diseases and in controlling cholesterol. Curd brings relief to diarrhea and dysentery. GoMutra (urine) has essential minerals and vitamins and medicinal, anti‐toxic, anti‐septic and anti‐biotic properties. It is used in Vaastu shastra for purification purposes. Go maya (dung) contains vitamin B‐12, is a disinfectant and improves cell permeability and is a geopathic stress buster. Cowpathy refers to treatment using cow products and offers healing service to a wide range of human ailments ranging from common cold to cancer. Cowpathy is based on the ancient conceptsinSushrutaSamhitaandAshtangaSangrahathatthe GauMaatha: Indian Cow and its Products
  • 3. 3 five elements obtained from the cow give long life, purify blood and cure all diseases and detoxify the body. Cowpathy can be seen in practice as cow urine therapyand panchagavya therapy, the former making use of distilled urine of the cow and the latter using panchagavya for healing purpose. Many Universities and Research Institutes of repute have initiated andcarriedoutresearchtoinvestigatethescientificfootingof Cowpathy.Theseimpartspectacularhealingandrejuvenating properties to urine. Panchagavya therapy involves topical application, oral intake of panchagavya ghrita ‐ formulation ofpanchagavyainghee. Scientific Research: Centre for Rural Development, IIT Delhi has received around 50 proposals from top research institutions including CSIR to explore benefits of panchgavya. December 2016 saw a national level workshop to deliberate on Scientific Validation and Research on Panchagavya (SVAROP) use of panchagavya in areas such as agriculture, medicine, nutrition, and in developing soaps and mosquito repellents. Proposal for a Gau Vigyan university that undertakes researching anti‐cancer properties of cow urine, an excellent vitalizer, is under consideration. Panchagavya is endorsed by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic SciencesoftheCentralGovernment.US&Chinagovernments have awarded Go Vigyan patents for research on cow urine as medicine for humans. Cow urine therapy has been granted a US patent in the field of cancer treatment. Further case studies of successful use of Go‐muthra Ark or Kamadhenu Ark areavailable. Cow‐based Ecosystem: Use of Cow dung can save millions of tons of firewood. Organic pesticides / insecticides/ fungicides called Agnihastra are developed from cowdung. A cow‐based insect controller is completely natural & organic in nature. It is cost‐effective, natural & organic, non‐hazardous and eco‐ friendly. Cow dung compost is used to enhance natural health of soil and promote natural growth of essential microbes. Dung can be used in gobar gas plants to produce energy as in Biogas.Cowdungcakesreduceeffectsofradiation.GoVigyan have developed Amrit Pani with cow dung, cow urine & health and is safe for environment. Vermi‐compost, is produced by mixing cow dung, cow urine & farm waste in the trench and letting earthworms feed on it. It has zero input cost and restores the soil balance. Farmers can sell cow urine to Ayurvedic companies to prepare medicines. Mosquito repellents are produced with cow urine. Tooth powder, soaps, shampoos, hair oil, massage oil, after‐shave lotions, creams, incense, phenyl, cosmetics, hand wash are some of the other cowproducts. Farming: Oxen of Indian breed have high working capacity for longer hours in all climatic conditions. Cow‐based organic farming maintains ecological balance, fertility of soil increases andfarmerscantakemultiplecropsinayear.OneIndiancowis enoughtokeep10acresoflandfertile. Medicines from cow‐based products (like Gau‐Arka ‐ distilled cow urine) are excellent alternatives to costly chemical‐based products. Gau‐Arka purges out toxins from the body, reduces body fat and lowers cholesterol and builds up immunity. Other medicinesforbloodpurification, digestion, painreductionand ahostofdisordersandailmentsarepopular. Corporates in Gau Products: A number of startups like A2Naturals.in and Calves and Leaves are doing good business in traditional cow products like vedic ark, gonyle disinfectant, panchagavya soap, kayakalp oil, vedic nasal drops and vedic joint‐painbalm. Conclusion: At the time of independence, India had 111 varieties of indigenous cows. Today, there are just 37 left. As per government census, the population of the Indian cow has declinedfrom19lakh(1997)to12.8lakh(2007),puttingitinto the vulnerable species category as per IUCN standards. Estimates by some organizations show that in 10 years, India willhavenomoredesicowsleft. We believe the traditional Indian cow is the foundation of our civilization and is vital to our very existence. Let's engage ourselves wholeheartedly in protecting our cows. Our cows aresymbolsofabundance, charityandgenerosity. So let us do our bit to protect our cow. Having cow's milk in itself is a service of Gomata. It is so because using its milk encourages cow rearing. If the heavens were to bestow a gift for the welfare of humankind, including good health and wellbeing, the Indian desi cow would be it. She is the giver of healthy milk, the sustainer of agriculture, and the backbone of ournationaleconomy. Shri SurabhyeNamah, Jai GauMaatha!
  • 4. Aquatic Therapy ICEBAT India had organised an International conference on evidence‐based Aquatic Therapy on 10,11 & 12th November 2017 at Radisson Blue, Mysore. Mr. C G Prashanth, Associate Professor at SDM College of Physiotherapy, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India and his team played a key role in organisingthiseventsuccessfully. Many International Speakers like Eadric Bressel of Utah state university USA, Johan Lambeck of Netherlands, Ben Waller from University of Jyvaskyla Finland, Javier Güeita RodríguezofUniversidadReyJuanCarlosinSpain,Marcel Hulselmans of Germany, Efthymia Vagena from Flloktitis RehabilitationHospitalinGreeceandCarolineBarmatzof Sheeba Medical Center in Israel participated in the conference. Aquatic therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy. For years, therapists have realized positive results when applying this water modality to a variety of patient populations. Water has been, and still remains, the best environment to achieve full function regardless of the injury. Water improves motion and flexibility. The warmth of the water (94°F) and its massaging effects allow muscles to relax while helping to reduce pain. The natural buoyancy reduces gravitational pull and lessens compressive forces, hence making exercises much easier to perform than on land. Best of all, aquatic therapy can beusedevenifapatientdoesnotknowhowtoswim. BenefitsofAquaticTherapy Warm water facilitates muscle relaxation and increasesperipheralcirculation. Viscosity of water provides resistance for strength training. Warm water stimulates body awareness, balance, and trunkstability. The reduction of gravitational forces in the pool allows the patient to stand and begin gait training and strengthening exercises without causing further damagetohealingstructures. Warm water and buoyancy results in decreased pain sensitivity. Improvement of patient morale and confidence can be establishedbyprovidingapositivemediuminwhichto function.
