This document summarizes and analyzes the Twitter accounts of four organizations focused on education: Education Matters, which aims to increase graduation rates in Cabell County, West Virginia; David Truss, a principal who promotes teacher effectiveness; Kyle Pace, an American teacher who shares technology integration strategies; and Wise in West Virginia, which works to institutionalize sex education in West Virginia schools. Each Twitter account is described in one to two sentences focusing on its goals and typical posts.

This is a twitter of “a community coalition on increasing the graduation rate in Cabell County.” As such,
it’s primary purpose is to promote those ideals. They shared tweets from others with inspirational
quotes, thought provoking ideas, or general good advice. A favorite of mine was-
The quote is indicative of the theme of education, as interpreted by Education Matters. Throughout the
semester, Education matters also took part in several events and retweeted information about them,
working to bring further exposure to efforts made by local West Virginian educators and groups,
especially those of the United Way and Americorps. They also shared several articles about how things
like attendance affect graduation levels, or promoting literacy.
David Truss

David Truss is a high school principal and educator from Canada. His twitter, mostly, is devoted to
promoting education importance and increasing teacher effectiveness. Most of his tweets and retweets
are articles, videos, or web pages he has found that follow along with that idea. He campaigns to get
teachers the materials they need in order to more effectively do their job and believes that teachers
need to be more willing to personally and continuously engage with their students. He has a page on his
own website he all about how to tweet and how twitter works, which he uses as a guide to how to use
twitter, as he believes that all teachers need to make use of things like twitter in order to better
understand and communicate with their students.

2. Kyle Pace

3. Kyle pace is an American Teacher. His primary goal with his twitter is sharing information and getting
teachers to engage with twitter and technology on a deeper level. He took place in a 30 day twitter
challenge, which was a large social media activity to post on twitter about different topics in education.
At the time of writing this, he is week two of the challenge. Mr. Pace is a big fan of teachers engaging
with technology and extols the virtues of many google features and programs through his twitter,
including Google Forms, Google Open Gallery, and others. Technological intergrationa nd proper use
and understanding of technology are his main goals, but he is very clear that he feels that teachers need
to regard technology as something more than just another calculator or pen. He views digital technology
as something new, different, and in need of deep understanding.

4. Wise in West Virginia

Wise in West Virginia is a program that is working to help institutionalize sex education in west Virginia
schools. Their goal =s are largely that they wish to spread as much useful information as possible, so that
people are aware of the real options and truths about sex and sex education and contraception. The
other thing they are very big about is that it is a teacher’s role to protect and respect students sexuality
and choices.
Also, Wise in WV is very dedicated to helping to support charities and groups from around the country
who are trying to increase sexual safety and education. They often retweet or tweet about charities or
specials or offers that are happening within the organization and with sister groups around the country.

5. This groups twitter is a gateway for them to communicate to the rest of West Virginia and beyond, doing
what they can to promote knowledge. It’s clear they have an absolute beliefe that knowledge of safe
practices engenders use of those same safe practices.
