This document provides ideas for using Twitter in the classroom. It discusses how Twitter can be used as a context for learning across different subject areas. Specific ideas include using Twitter to share field trip updates with parents, conduct polls and decision making, provide feedback on student work, document literacy skills and share resources. Hashtags can help aggregate tweets by topic. Twitter can also be used for revision, research, and as an entrance/exit ticket for summarizing learning.

For those who already tweet, but want to grow their network and get more out of the platform. Particularly relevant if you're in the academic environment, but applicable to all sectors.
There is a more detailed version of this presentation, which was used as part of the Becoming a Networked Researcher suite of workshops at the University of York, elsewhere on this Slideshare account.
Twitter 101: What is Twitter? Why Twitter? Key Twitter terms to know. Getting started with Twitter.

- Twitter is not a strategy by itself, but is a part of the bigger picture.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

16. 1. Joining Twitter /
personal or dept. account
• You need an e-mail address
• It helps to create your profile so that it’s
not a blank logo
• It’s “social media” so ideally you are
connecting with people
• It only works once you start to follow
people
18. Getting started…
Twitter is called a microblogging platform
because you’re only allowed to use 140
characters to send your “tweet” (message or
status)
A small counter records how many characters
have been used as you type your message.
Weblinks are automatically shortened to save
characters.
19. You can use Twitter without joining
• Can use it to search for news items and
resources, including images posted by people
• You can also follow hashtags, which are used
to aggregate tweets together
20. What is “Following?”
These are the people that you’ve chosen to “follow”.
It basically means that you’ll receive their tweets in
your stream and they’ll receive a notification that
you’ve chosen to follow them.
Try to maintain your twitter following to follower ratio
Who are “Followers?”
These are the people who have chosen to follow you.
You’ll start off at zero until you start tweeting or if the
people you’ve followed decide to follow you back.
21. What Does “@” Mean on Twitter?
The @ symbol means tweet “at”
someone. For instance my twitter handle
is @GeoBlogs. Meaning if you want to
mention me in a tweet you need to add
my name.
23. Hashtag
A label that can be used to identify a
Tweet as belonging to a particular
discussion or event.

28. Twitter Polls
Once a poll has been posted, it will remain open for 24 hours. When that time has
expired, voting will be closed automatically and the person who initiated the poll
will receive a notification that it has now ended, as well as a breakdown of the final
results. The winning choice will be highlighted in bold text for everyone to see.
29. 5. Feedback on work
Sharing pictures and inviting
